Becasue i want it to run at more than 2fps.

It looks ok close up - its becasue i have the draw distances set low, which means the zoomed out view looks a bit ugly. But i have all the other settings on high so close up its looks fine........i'll get another shot of the rides close up.

To run this park you will need to lower your graphics settings. Theres a lot of detail. I'm running this on a 3ghz remember........if i need to lower the settins for sure everyone else will.

I'll add more screens soon. its a bit of hassle right now, i have to transfer my photos from the PC with rct3 installed to another to upload them. Probably see more tuesday.

I'm a bit busy now with uni work but will still work on it slowly. Those screens above are a week old already, so i can post much better ones from the saved game soon.

I'm running a 3Ghz 1MB cache with the Nvidia 6800, Unless it is something like the test park, I won't have to.

Looks good so far though.

wow you got this thread from no where.

Well since that first post i started again completly but don't panick - its finished to about the same stage, if not more, than the first. Not only that, but it looks much better too, and it runs faster.

I've figured out how to make lots of buildings i think without the FPS dropping much. I'm aiming to get 30fps on even the slowest computers. it looks good and runs fast(ish)if you design it right.
your'll see when its released.

I haven't done much work on it recently, becasue of christmas and stuff. I got uni exams too over the next two weeks, but after that it should be finished (well i can actually get some free time i expect it to be complete in less than another week)

2005 quick question, have you got the no way out ride built or is it just the building?

cheers

2005
01-11-2005, 05:31 PM
just a building right now.

when i can FTP my website in the next few days i'll put up a preview park (bascially just the big rides). This should run on even the slowest computers.

I had an awesome video but windows media player just keeps crashing all the time and not playing it right. I will get it working, i just had no time over the last few days. Expect this on the weekend. Well worth waiting for.

Shame i couldn't have had it up today. I got some screens but just haven't had a chance to upload them yet, i haven't got internet access in my room until thurs or friday, so its not so easy, but i'll try and get two or three screens up tomorrow.

i don't know why it isn't working it appears to be right. i'm trying to fix it but my internet connection just decided to be really really slow making it really difficult.

I don't think its the link thats wrong i think its just the host. to use the webftp i have to go through 100 different menus it takes time.

heres another screen anyway (if it works)

Looking good so far man, I see you've taken off a lot of the graphical settings (including background, which makes it look a bit agoraphobic), although the terrain looks very blocky - smoothing is your friend :)

I've never been to Thorpe Park, but it looks well worth a visit. The 10 inversions on Colossus are insane! Inferno looks like a great coaster too.

Keep working on this park, it'll be great to see finished.

I live near Thorpe Park and can confirm the rides are spot on

I started to make thorpe park, but couldn't get the buildings right (the dome near the entrance :( )

looks really good so far.

2005
01-27-2005, 06:13 PM
I think the blocky terrain you are referring to, those are buildings.

Trust me, they have very little frame rate affect. making buildings out of pure blocks, makes the frame rate drop a huge amount.

Buildings made of land also have an additional it appears - the game dosn't draw whats behind them, it knows it is solid; they act as a block, a sort of articficial draw rate or fog type block.
The game dosn't appear to know scenery blocks are solid, which isn't that surprising.

I can't stand low fps; i get 30fps at any point in this park, i hope you all will too - this isn't like other real parks you've d/l, i've designed every bit with frame rate alays as the most important thing; even loading times are pretty good.

I'm going to released a 95% finished version tomorrow night. d/l becasue it could be months before i make a final verson, i have so much uni work to catch up on from his weekend.

Think of it as a preview, but i want to release it in case i never get round to finishing it. Also i think it will give people ideas on how to increase the framerate on their own parks - careful design from the start is vital.

Link will be here and at top of page. I can't upload it before that becasue my internet connection blocks the ports for ftp programs, but i'll have a computer i can use tomorrow evening.

http://img89.exs.cx/img89/2218/shot00538em.jpg

you can't see it/read it but that screen says 43.2fps in the corner.

Edit: got it working now, i thought the web ftp limit was 200kb, but it worked (file size is 421kb ish). So i didn't have to use an ftp program

2005, screens are looking great:up:, looking forward to the download.

btw is that a new ride next to tidal wave? (not been for a year or so:) )

2005
01-27-2005, 06:45 PM
the park gets 2 new rides this year, slammer (sky swatter) and rush (s+s giant swing) which replaces eclispe (ferris wheel). Technically they aren't opened yet.

Rct3 has neither of these rides.

I also added the 2006 rocket - what would you prefer, flying fish or the rocket? Exactly. The layout is 100% accurrate (i've seen plans). Colours might be off but probably not - its very likely to have red track. it will be race car themed - like rita at AT probably (and a bit like TD at CP) The name is just a joke, its not got a name yet. I'll work on the theme maybe later, but anything else i add would be a guess.

download is available on first post now.

DarkSim
01-27-2005, 07:21 PM
Dunno how accurate it is, but I'll take your word for it being perfect ;)

I like the idea of using terrain for buildings, it works well.

Colossus made me dizzy :bulb: lol, good job :)

2005
01-27-2005, 07:38 PM
lol its like that in real life too (although i've never ridden it in the front car). I hope i got the rolls the right way, i'm pretty i did..........should be anti-clockwise i think.

I just realised i spelt collossus wrong, oh well, its only a small thing!

I meant the rocket is perfect (although its a pretty simple layout!).

Actually, i'm pretty sure (all of it is)its as close as possible. Only small things i might change is:

On inferno the bit before the lift needs the small hill removed and replaced with flat track

Need to add a tunnel around loggers leap

Thunder rivers layout could be adjusted a bit

I know some of the scenery needs adjusting a bit. But only people who had been to the park would notice, i mean stuff like making the buildings slightly more detailed around the fast food area by inferno, but its a small thing. I need photos and that'll take time, and its only a small thing. You'd only notice if you'd been to the park. At least you can go on all the rides. Shops and stuff don't interest me so much, as long as they are roughly represented. If we had unlimited CPU power that would be different, but we don't, the saved games have to be withing limits to be playable.

DarkSim

You should change the brake speed on the stratacoaster too - it doesn't complete the circuit and nearly crashes cos there are 2 trains! I know you're a stickler for fps but I opened up the park and the peeps flooded in... and my fps went down to about 10 (less on rides facing peeps/at night). Still, it was fun to watch them ride around.

One thing about my Alton Towers recreation is going to be fps - gonna be solid to keep that down.

2005
01-28-2005, 10:56 AM
i think i built the strata before the patch so i didn't bother to change the brake speed becasue it was broken anyway. i'll take a look at it.

i'll try and get some stuff fixed this week. ^did you play it?

johnmcc46
02-01-2005, 07:16 AM
yeah its looking good didnt play it for long though.

so this new rollercoaster is in place of the flying fish? :( i loved that coaster when i was younger, lol in fact i think it was the first coaster i went on! :haha:

what about the teacups  dont tell me they're doing away with them  i can make them damn things nearly take off!! :p

ahh and thank god they're doing away with eclipse that thing was sooooooo slow :o damn queue was always 40 mins.

one more thing i may be blind or something but i never noticed zodiac dont tell me thats gettin done away with

2005
02-01-2005, 07:51 AM
don't remember seeing the teacups last time i went.

I remember flying fish when it was space station zero! they moved it outdoors around 1992 i think. It used to be the building by detonator (now just a load of shops and an arcade area).......i'm not sure if it still exists there was a fure there a few years ago that destroyed the haunted train ride.

i forgot about zodiac. But i don't remember seeing it last time i was there........must be my memory i don't think they would have removed it so soon. I thought it was by vortex, but did they remove it? I got some photos on my computer from across the lake, i can't see it.

im trying to make a version of thorpepark as well, but unlike you, i went for the 2004, season, well, as like you said, the screamin' swing and sky swatter arent on the game,

you can check out my progress/ compare mine with this one, at my thread in RCT2.com's fourms

http://www.rct2.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17677

or if you dont want to change to another forum, i have images, at...

BTW, appart from lacking in scenery in several places, your parks starting to look good...

johnmcc46
02-01-2005, 01:59 PM
speile, your recreation of thorpe park looks great, keep up the good work :D:up:

2005, zodiac and the teacups were there when i went july last year , zodiac was next to vortex last time i went, couldnt tell you if it was removed :noob:

the ghost train was fun, i can still remember bits inside it :)

remeber the river raft ride which made way for nemesis inferno? was that not destroyed by the fire as well http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/unknown/face12.gif

lol that was another one of my favourite rides from a while back :) lol ahh the days when the only coaster in the park was the flying fish :haha:

oh yeah 2005 just remebered, you going to add the train that goes to the farm, just a small detail i noticed missing :)

:Go_Go_Go_RCT3:
02-01-2005, 02:11 PM
Good recreation there 2005 of my altime fav park! However I could say Nemesis Inferno looks rather different but with tunnels that is pretty good and probably the best that can be achieved with this game. Well done, hope to see some more of your work! Keep it up!

2005
02-03-2005, 03:54 PM
speile can't wait to see how someone else will make this. making real parks is tough. Your park will definatly will a lot more detailed.....it looks amazing. but make sure you think of the fps. all that detail so far looks good but when the parks full it won't play good. Maybe it dosn't bother you, but to me the whole point is too have something playable.

I remember that river raft ride!! It was the something mill, with those sininging frogs! like its a small world, only worse. At least it was short. wow that was a long time ago.

think david B remembers it? thats what we need in rct3 really, singing frogs. Are you reading this? lol :)

satriales
02-03-2005, 04:28 PM
I remember that frog ride :)

I have a video of when I first went to Thorpe Park about 13/14 years ago and it looks completely different to what it's like now.

i don't remember the layout really of it but they have basically built over everything.

Only the FF and some buildings, and thunder river still exist.

that white dome building at the entrance has been there for as long as i remember.

Hey Ive (nearly) made a Thorpe 04 as well but I think my detail will be to much to handle but we will see.

p.s.
how do you upload images

speile
02-07-2005, 12:43 PM
well, your right about frame rate, on my park, although, once i learned you could turn off shadows, it runs fairly smoothly, i mean, it never ran that good on my system anyway, but i get around 15 frames per second, w/o shadows, whereas i get around 2 with... i wasnt aiming for playability, though, so im putting in as much detail as i can, where i can...

oh im wondering, how you are making the park, are you using photographs and maps or just your memory of the park?

Hey Ive (nearly) made a Thorpe 04 as well but I think my detail will be to much to handle but we will see. try image shack, or web shots, or make a website on geocities or something, im sure wed like to see you recreation too

could just be problems with the host, all these free sites aren't any good. Even imageshack which used to be good is as bad as the rest of them now.

I made my park from memory, so its probably got a few mistakes in it. I went in the summer and at halloween.

02-07-2005, 06:07 PM
Kul yeah I go a few times each year. Im from North Hampshire so Im not too far away.
I also have park maps and from memories to build it.
Its nearly impossible to build exact dimensions and placement on RCT3.

Where you from 2005?
