Welcome to the Official Chanelwood Park Update Thread
Current Project: The Adventures of Captain No-Legs.
Next Project: Lake Chanelwood/ Shark Attack Roller Coaster
Previous Project: Crossroads Monorail Station
-----------Old News------------------
Right now, the park is still in its planning stages, so I won’t have any screens for a while. Here is the shpiel on Chanelwood Park:
Chanelwood Park. A place of fun and excitement unparalleled in the world. From Space to the Wild West to Hollywood to an expansive lake, Chanelwood offers a variety of rides for all ages.
Chanelwood is named for the Myst Age by the same name. In the game Myst, players can be teleported from one world to another as simple as opening a book. They could be in a serene beach one second, and then be in a lush rainforest the next. This idea exists in Chanelwood: The layout contains 5 distinctly different sections that are a mere few feet away. One second, guests could be exploring the wonders of the future, the next they could be touring a Hollywood Set Back Lot.
As a guest enters the park, the first thing they do is take a walk into the recent past, the mid 1900’s, to a time when people would come hundreds of miles to go to the State Fair. State Fair is the theme for the first section of the park. The long boulevard – like approach to The Crossroads is a recreation of a State Fair from the 1930’s – 60’s, complete with themed shopping areas, carnival rides, and two wooden coasters.
As our peep leaves the fair behind, they come to The Crossroads. The Crossroads is a general themed area. There will probably be no rides, but a centrally located information desk. This is their portal to the rest of the park. From here, they can access any of the five sections, Future World, Silverado, Lake City, or Mobley Vision Studios. These four sections are still in the planning stage, so they do not yet have their rides, but they do have landscape features.
Silverado is a Wild West themed area, so it will be mostly flat desert, except for a hill, which will contain a Log Flume. Several underground coasters (unknown what type as of now) will be included, as well as other Wild West themed rides. Silverado will have a section called the “Kiddie Corral,” one of the sections of the park built just for youngsters.
Lake City is a section of the amusement park that will be built entirely on a lake. It will include water features that will work with the several coasters that will go here to add to excitement, while keeping nausea at a minimum.
No park is complete without an outer space themed section. Future World is Chanelwood’s spectacular addition to the Sci-Fi world. It will be entirely enclosed in a geo-dome like structure, with expansions planned later that will be floating in the air, which will be the kid’s section.
Finally, we come to Mobley Vision Studios. It is named for my movie production company and will be themed like a Movie Studio, with several “behind-the-scenes” rides that will have tons of Ride Events, such as Disaster Canyon and the Exploding Rig. The logo for Mobley Vision Studios has been created and can be found at the link below.

That is all for now. Any input will be appreciated.

Sounds cool!! I like your Idea of Monday Major Updates, yet I will not do something like it because I've already made some major updates lately, including 4 sections that are complete in planning, with 3 more to go (Food Canyon doesn't really need to be planned). Mobley Vision Studios sounds cool! You have a nice assortmant of rides there, including a coaster and a log flume! I can't wait for next Monday!!!

(Off-Topic)Hey Sevey13- are you any good at making coasters? I have a Coaster Contest, and I want some more entries! I only have 4 right now, so I am in need of more!!!

Hehe, I can't wait untill I really get the video up and going.
Since I am moving soon and I have alot of things packed up for moving, I will make a new Video that is alot better than this one I am releasing.
This video contains a fancy intro, ending and has pictures.
Next Video will have the same fancy intro and ending but will have mini clips inside the video.
Oh when I move I will show you a new ride that I haven't mention yet and it's called "No Limits" -> Stats 8.6,6.2,4.7
A Green and blue Twister that has a lift launch and has 7 inversions.
Well Sevey13 good luck on your park when you get the game and take your time when you get your park up and going, so it woun't look like it has been rushed.
Yes mine is taking a long time but it is turning out well.

I know i double post and all but
The Flight of the Red Baron
Dueling Suspended Roller Coasters does sound like a great ride but how does a suspended coaster have loops? do u mean inverted compact or just plain inverted
i haven't used the suspended coaster yet but I don't remeber if they have one yet, out in the real world.
This Suspended Coaster? (http://www.rcdb.com/pictures/picmax/busch-gardens-williamsburg/big-bad-wolf3.jpg)

I'm pretty sure it is called the Suspended coaster. I will check on that, then come back with a few updates.
sevey13
11-16-2004, 09:53 PM
Ok. I have a few updates about the park.
1. The ride entitled "The Flight of the Red Baron" has had a little contreversy, so I have checked up on it. AsTroWorLD, there is such thing as a Suspended Roller Coaster, I just forgot to add a word in there. The ride is called a
Suspended Swinging Roller Coaster
I know of at least one example in the real world, at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia, called Big Bad Wolf. It was one of the first coasters I went on, so I remember it pretty well. Here is a picture of it:
http://www.4adventure.com/buschgardens/va/_images/image_big_bad_wolf.jpg
In case the tags don't work, here is the link:
http://www.4adventure.com/buschgardens/va/_images/image_big_bad_wolf.jpg
Anyway, it does exhist. The plane version is actually in the Demo menu screen in the first version, not the latest ones. Any other questions I will be happy to answer.
2. I have renamed the section of the park called "Lake City." It has changed to "Lake Chanelwood."

Yeah I know, my link didn't work I posted a picture and it was the Big Bad Wolf, But what I am asking I haven't seen a loop for that type of roller coaster.

Wednesday Update
Ok. I have two maps for you, and the results of my major expirement are in.
The expirement was something I thought would be simple: I just wanted to know if I could build watetight buildings in a lake that could be submerged and not be filled with water. I tried with several different architectures, but none of them worked. Then, I got the idea to do it a different way. This time, I lowered the land for the lake, then raised a square-shaped section in the middle and hollowed it. Then, I put water in the lake and, poof! All I had to do was add walls around the middle section, and I had an underwater building! Note: The center mound has to be higher than the water line for this to work. And so, Atlantis is ready to be made (oops...did I say that? ;))
I will be happy to entertain questions.

I recommend you to make this park on Scenario editor, so u can make your maps big as 253x253 instead of sand box which is 130x130.

Imageshack has an unlimited number of photos and the size limit is 1024 kilobytes. Also, they take jpeg, jpg, png, gif, bmp, tif, tiff, and swf.

thats the problem right there. Imageshack only allows for 1mb uploads. Im guessing you took all your screenshots and zipped them? Or are they still .BMP? If they are .BMP you should use paint and convert them to JPEG for a dramatic size reduction. If you zipped them, you could, 1 unzip and upload 1 pic at a time or, 2 divide the zip files into a couple and upload them 1mb at a time.

Yes, but that is not the fault of my server. When you exported the video, you made it at a very small resolution.
The server has a 20MB upload limit, so you can export much bigger file. If I recall correctly, you uploaded a better version of that video awhile ago, but when I made the switch, all the old uploads were lost. Feel free to upload that other version you had.

According to his site, he has a 20 MB upload limit, yet your .wmv file is smaller than 1 MB. I'm not sure how his site can be held responsible for the quality of your video in any way shape or form, but would be quite happy to be enlightened.

I wasn't actually being snippy, although text is not usually the best medium for conveying the emotion behind a statement. I was trying to be factual and to the point, which can come across as being blunt, it seems.

I have added a few things to the first page of this thread:
1. Countdown To Construction - A simple day counter to when actual construction will begin (projected).
2. Construction Completion Counter - Shows what percent of each area of the park is completed (doesn't include planning stages).
I have also made a few additions to my Siggie, in case you hadn't noticed. At the very bottom, there are 3 new lines:
Hogwarts: Coming Soon
Middle Earth: Coming Soon
Holiday Inn: Coming Soon
Here is a simple breakdown of what these mean:
Hogwarts: A Harry Potter themed Amusment park themed like Hogwarts Castle itself. All rides take place within the castle, or on the grounds. Promises to be spectacularly themed. Ride Ideas: The Flying Car, Werewolf!, Snape's Dungeon.
Middle Earth: Do not worry, I am not stealing anyones idea. This seems to have become a popular idea lately, but this was thought up long before it was put in here. Ride Ideas: Mount Doom, Flight to the Ford.
Holiday Inn: A Christmas themed park, with snow capped-mountains and beautiful ski-lodges. Ride Ideas: Double Black-Diamond, The Lift, Green Run.

Silverado Monday Major Update
Overview - Welcome. Welcome to a time when buffalo still roamed free. When cowboys and Indians wasn’t just a childhood game. Welcome to a place where the rivers run with gold, where bandits and sheriffs engage in classic shootouts at high noon that can only end in death of one of the duelists. Welcome to Silverado.
Silverado is the old west themed section of Chanelwood. It consists of two sections: the Town and the Mine. When guests visit the town, they become immersed in the American culture of the 1850’s Wild West. Walk down Main Street, watch a classic western gun battle, or enjoy a meal in one of towns many saloons. Experience rides like the Transcontinental Railroad, which lets you see life in a Native American village, or the buffalo roundup.
Or, if they dare, gusts can venture underground into the other section of Silverado, the Mine. This amazing underground breakthrough consists of several roller coasters and other rides that are completely under the rest of the park. In the dark. This is a ground-breaking advancement in roller coaster park design – to have an entire section of a park completely underground.
From big to small, there is something in Silverado for everyone. This promises to be a new frontier in park making, as well, as the entire section has been hollowed out for the mine, with the rest of the section built above it.

This saw mill was opened in 1823, and the company that owned t hoped it would be a great financial asset. What they didn’t know was that it was built on an ancient burial ground. Soon after opening, workers started disappearing without explanation. There were reports of spirits that were haunting the workers, causing many of them to quit. So, the site was closed and abandoned. Until now. You have been sent by the company to evaluate the condition of the mill for re-opening. You don’t worry. You don’t believe in ghosts. Just watched the video and it looks nice. Some great drops in it and I liked how it weaved back and forth. Only thing I notcied was at the very end it kind of abruptly stopped at the station as opposed to if it were to kinda slow down by some brakes. But other then that it looked great.

I am referring to the cheat where you copy the Tutorial 3 dat file to the base page, rename it Demo.dat, and rename the original Demo.dat file to something like DemoBACKUP.dat or something...
And by the way... in the post directly above about the coaster contest, it says that the contest ENDS the second I press the Submit this post till December 18. You should fix that....

Just a heads up: Tommorows Monday Major Update will be huge. It will contain all the plans for Future World, State Fair, and The Crossroads, as I realized they had not yet been covered in any update. It will also contain some sad news. Due to the massive FPS problem, I will be downsizing the park a little by taking away several rides and features. See what is going to go and what is going to stay tommorow. It is a hard decision to make, but I will sacrifice some things for the good of the park.

About cutting it down a bit... I found this:

There are still some things we would like to improve, so I will post these here for information (most have already been mentioned here, but this way they will not be lost in the depths of many threads).
1. Some rotating coaster cars (eg Virginia Reel) sometimes don't render properly. This will be fixed in the next update.
2. There is sometimes a problem with overlapping trains. This will be fixed, too.
3. Stratacoaster braking force - this is too low, and will be increased.
4. Some people have found slow-downs on certain high spec machines. We have found (and fixed) a complex interaction between certain sound cards and graphic cards. We are continuing to look for other possible causes of slow-down.
5. There is a peep numbers bug, where it can report fewer peeps in the park than there really are - caused by groups changing their minds about leaving at the park exit.
6. Speeds of some water rides - these will be amended.
There will be more little tweaks too in the update, and we expect to release the update before Christmas. More details to follow.
Just so you know!

Monday Major Update #4
The Last One
Well, It has been four great weeks finishing the planning for Chanelwood Park. I have really enjoyed and am grateful for all your comments. But, all good things must come to an end. And, the great thing about THIS good thing is that it, when it ends, another good things begin. I have added some new counters to the first page of this thread, as well as some of the things found at the bottom of this update. I have added the names of all the rides/attractions, along with a corresponding percent telling how much percent of it was completed. I also added an “Hours Spent on Park” counter that will clock all the total hours I have spent working on the park. It will include planning. But, I will not keep you waiting any more to learn about the last remaining section of Chanelwood Park, Future World.
Future World
Overview-
You have spent time in the splendor of Hollywood, basked in the glory of stardom. You have seen the wonders of the water, explored the canyons and depths of Lake Chanelwood. You have been to a time past, spent a day in the life of a wild western town. Now, take a journey into a vision: A vision of the future. Enter the vast geodome that contains all of Future World.
Ride the roller coasters that would make even an alien look on in amazement. Explore the wonders of the universe in the exquisite planetarium, using the best technology available. Battle your friends in Lasix, or blast off to new heights from the launch pad.

State Fair
Overview-
As a guest enters the park, the first thing they do is take a walk into the recent past, the mid 1900’s, to a time when people would come hundreds of miles to go to the State Fair. State Fair is the theme for the first section of the park. The long boulevard – like approach to The Crossroads is a recreation of a State Fair from the 1930’s – 60’s, complete with themed shopping areas, carnival rides, and two wooden coasters.
Rides
Beastie
Wooden Roller Coaster
The Streak
Wooden Roller Coaster
Take a step back to enjoy two classic wooden coasters.
Flat Rides

The Crossroads
Overview-
The crossroads is the central monorail station for Chanelwood. It is themed in part with items from all of the other sections, but it also has a flavor of its own. It is also the largest of the monorail stations. The continuous monorail line has two stations here, with stations also located in Mobley Visions Studios, Silverado, Chanelwood Park, and Future World.
Rides
The Crossroads
Monorail
Misc.
It is a hard decision to take some rides away from a park. It takes away the splendor and the majesty of some areas. However, unless a second patch comes out before construction begins in 6 days, the following rides/attractions will be permanently removed from the lineup for Chanelwood Park.
From Mobley Vision Studios:
Skyline
From Lake Chanelwood:
H2O TURBO
Atlantis Underwater Recreation
The Four Seasons Fireworks Displays
Note: The monorail station will moved to a different location in Lake Chanelwood.
From Silverado:
Western Wheel
Transcontinental Railroad
Minedrill
Dy-no-myte!
Strikin’ Gold
Note: The underground portion of Silverado, AKA “The Mine,” will be removed. Mine Tours will still be a ride, however it will start above ground, then go below.
From Future World:
What was taken from here was not included in the update along with those taken from State Fair.
If I finish the park and find that the FPS problem has not yet attacked, I will of course add some of the things back in.

I don't know how confident I am in releasing the pictures of State Fair quite yet. I am just worried that there isn't enough scenery in them right now. But, then again, how would you theme a state fair? See the problem? What I have done so far is plop a few trees down here and there. For a state fair use generic scenery like the brick walls and such and make houses. Also use lots of nice tall trees. THe western themed walls will also work nicely. Hope this helps.
P.S. Maybe some small ponds as well near rides and stuff, or maybe even one with row boats inside.

Your State Fair definitely looks like a State Fair. Good thing I am renaming my County Fair area. I've decided on Carolina Showplace.
Anyway, the park looks good. I love the guild around the Merry-Go-Round. Did it improve excitement at all on that ride? Someone on my thread suggested encasing rides/stations. They bring excitement up by almost a full point, which I think would help with a lot of non-coaster rides.
BTW, have you considered building a building around the food court? You know, make it look like a huge store, or restaurant, or something like that? It'd add to your park value, and I think the peeps would enjoy the scenery more. Just an idea though, you don't have to do it if you don't want to :-)
Milkdud
12-13-2004, 11:39 PM
For the state fair my advice to you would be add a bunch of trees everywhere, enclose the food court, and add more generic buildings to give it more of a fair feel. When i see the screenshots it looks like you just slapped some rides down and added footpaths and thats it. A bunch of trees everywhere will definately make it looks better along with buildings to make it realistic and viola, you got a fair! I think I counted 2 or 3 trees in those shots :noob:
Hope this helps and good luck with the rest of your contruction!
sevey13
12-13-2004, 11:45 PM
Well, I am getting the consensus that I need more trees and buildings. That is a will do, of course. I will gladly oblige. And, Milkdud, that ride slappin' took me a whole two hours ;P. Anyway, I have set aside that section for a little while and have started building a roller coaster for Silverado, "Mine Tours." Should finish that one in a few days. The clincher on this one will be building the roof (Which isHUGE) :(. Wish me luck on that one. More screens tommorow.

Its definetly atleast a 4 if not 5. Just the planning youve put into this is almost enough to give it a 5.
I have to agree with most of the others. Trees do a number especially the apple and yellow trees I think look great in a state fair area. Also you dont have to put all the trees next to the path but put some out around the backside of your coasters, It will look more natural. I like how you put the merry go round in the middle of the path.
I would also suggest like milkdud said and enclose the food court. They tend to make the best and perfect occasion to build a building. The way you set your park up so far, it seems like your state fair is gonna be the "midway" of your park so peeps have to go through it to get to other places, I would take some of your thrill rides and maybe place them a little farther away. Cause it seems a bit cluttered. It also might create a bottleneck in your park having so many rides right as you enter the park. Peeps might tend to stick around the entrance instead of having to go through the park to get to the rides.
PDohm123
12-14-2004, 12:56 PM
I agree. I usually leave the scenery for last in each section, that way I know where I have room to build stuff. And, putting trees in and around the rides, definitely gives a natural feel. That's why I usually have such a thick forest outside the park, because I pick different tree types, and just randomly place them, until I am satisfied with the result.
When I rode my inverted coaster "Empire Express" with the foliage in and around it, you really had the feeling the peeps were flying through the trees like birds. It looked absolutely fantastic.

Another excellent park in the forums. I love were you have put the Merry-Go-round, Sevey, and all the rides seem the typical of a fair. The wooden coasters seem very good. As the people have said the food court is better if its covered. Also a 4 to you, you have a very good park there, Im waiting more screens of your park soon. I will add your park to my signature, you can also add mine to yours if you want.
Keep up with the good work.
:D
tikitiki
12-14-2004, 09:27 PM
I gave it a 5/5 :) Also statisticly for all you coaster desiners out their, if you put scenery nearer to rides such as a tree right next to a track while slowing down a little gives the impression that you are speeding up and it will also improve rating while not bringing up nasusia and internsity rating!
Hope this helped
Cheers Tikitiki

This one is a birds-eye view of the Mine Coaster called Mine Tours, before theming or anything is done to it.

This one is a perspective view of Mine Tour, after scenery and sculpting has happened.
http://img99.exs.cx/img99/4797/mine_tour_perspective.jpg
This is one of the entrance buildings for Mine Tours. One of them, in the foreground on the left, is a sherrifs office, with a soldier and cannon on top, who is fighting the bandits situated above the bank, the larger building, which houses a large part of the station. Proud of this one.
http://img99.exs.cx/img99/7905/mine_tour_enter.jpg
This is a look at Silverado Station. As you can tell, Transcontinental Railroad has been put back into the park. The Monorail and the Railroad both have their stations inside this building. Another one I am proud of.

The interior of the station

Finaly, an overview of Silverado. One thing not pictured is the Haunted Sawmill, which is in the park (though I am not happy with it at all), right next to the station. I may decide to axe the "Haunted" aspect of the mill and turn it into a different themed logflume. What do you think?

Your park looks good. After enclosing 4 different coasters myself in my park (Soon to be announced -- Watch for the Hades Park topic), I can really appreciate the amount of trouble you went to to enclose what you have. I noticed last night while encasing a coaster in glass to protect it from the water, that a lot of glass walls at their default setting can really lower FPS. Fireworks shows also lower FPS during Coaster Cam if the show comes into view. I found the best response on FPS with a lot of glass walls is to color all three parts the same color (so far white or light blue seems to work best). By the way, Hades is all Spooky themed and only open at night.

Honestly, I don't know why you guys put so much emphasis on what people post in your threads.
WHO THE BLOODY HELL CARES?! You bought this game for fun, not to see how many people you could get interested in a park you built. We're doing this to enjoy ourselves. And just because no one posts, doesn't mean there isn't any interest. It just means people are too dumbfounded to say anything.
We should all continue working on our parks, and posting them for download. If people download them, great. If not, oh well, their loss, not ours.
Don't let all these projects die because you feel no one's interested. Do it for yourself, not for others.
