I'm tired of people posting pictures in BMP format, so I made a quick guide for nubs on how to convert and post jpg pictures.

Step1-Find your Screenshots in your My Pictures folder.
C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\My Pictures\RCT3

Step2-Right click the Screen shot you would like to use, and move the cursor down to “open with”. A few programs should be available, select PAINT.
Click here to see a picture example of step 2. (http://img91.exs.cx/img91/9214/Openwith.jpg)

Step3-Now the screenshot should be opened with PAINT. On the upper left corner click file and scroll down to "save as". In the new window that pops up you should see the "save as type" option. Click on the collapsible window where it says "24-bit Bitmap (*.bmp;*.dib)". Scroll down to where it give you the option to save the file as a jpg or jpeg.
Click here to see a picture example of step 3. (http://img91.exs.cx/img91/4580/step3.jpg)

Step4-Now select where you would like to save your file. I'll choose my desktop. Now we have a jpg format picture ready to be uploaded to the web.
Click here to see a picture example of step 4. (http://img91.exs.cx/img91/8312/step4.jpg)

Step5-If you don't already have a host for you screenshot, www.imageshack.us or www.photbucket.com are two free image hosting sites that you can use. I'll use imageshack.us

Step6-Load the imageshack.us web page and you should see a blank space in the center of your screen with the word browse next to it. Click browse and imageshack will allow you to find the file you would like to upload.
Click here to see a picture example of step 6. (http://img91.exs.cx/img91/5103/step6.jpg)

Step7-After you select your file, the blank space will now have the file trail in it. If the file you selected was correct click "Host it!" which is located on the bottom of the page.
Click here to see a picture example of step 7. (http://img91.exs.cx/img91/4792/step7.jpg)

Step8-After waiting a few moments your image will be hosted and this screen will pop up. (http://img91.exs.cx/img91/1079/untitled548.jpg) Copy the text circled in red. Paste directly into a forum posts.
Click here to see a picture example of step 8. (http://img91.exs.cx/img91/1079/untitled548.jpg)

Congratulations! You just successfully converted a bmp into a jpg and hosted it!

*Sigh... Some n00bs never learn, lol.

BTW, you can use the .png format too. Paint saves .jpgs with a significant loss in quality. (but are usually slightly larger, sometimes larger by alot, like a few 100 kb's, but is still alot better than the .bmp format)

Yes please.....and anyone with Photoshop, use the Save for Web feature. ;)

RCT4Me - PNG can sometimes sum up to a HUGE file size if the resolution starts exceeding 700x700, so use PNG only if you have a smaller size picture. It also depends on the colors that are in the picture. I believe PNG is better with blue, thus if you have more blue, it'll use many different variations of blue, resulting in a larger size. I'm not completely sure about this, I'll have to test this sometime.

I don't notice any difference between .png and .bmp except for file sizes, which is a huge difference.

png's are typically 100's of kb per file, while .jpg's are usually abit less.

As I graphic designer, I use Adobe and Macromedia's products daily, but I highly recommend the following freeware program. I've been using it for years and it's the best quick edit graphics program I've found. It supports any graphic file type you can imagine. Open your bitmap, and just save it as a jpeg for web use. Resizing is easy...it has a sharpen tool, as well as other general manipulations. It's a small program and you don't have to wait for it to load ;)...

Pixresizer is a free program that not only lets you convert from BMP to JPG but it does it in a batch mode so you can convert all of the screenshots you've taken so far, in ONE easy step. It lets you choose the jpg quality and the final size for all the pix. And man is it FAST! I converted groups of fifteen bmps to jpgs and it only took a few seconds per group!
