I think that the current airfield is too small to accurately present a challenge. You can plop one down anywhere without having to do any planning. In reality, most battles occured in the south Pacific simply because there were very limited numbers of places to build airfields. I recommend making airfields larger, with a runway and hangars. This would make players plan ahead for airstrip locations. Also, enemy units should be able to capture and use airstrips.

would be a cool idea but maybe hard to implemant maybe if they cost alot more that would be a start?

I agree. A higher cost and larger size would make them more valuable and also dictate that they pack a larger "punch."

Once you get a good economy going and have 3-4 airfields the game is over :D Simply take out the hq's one at a time :p

Yup. Annilated army. Mmmmm.... good. LOL:p
What would be real nice is something like how airports were built in the older Sim City games where you placed tiles to set it's size and the functions of the airport were determined by how large it was.
In WWII the airfields that were very small only held a few fighters for core defenses. It took larger airfields to make any sizable bomber runs against the enemy. Having modular airfields seems the way to go.
Build a runway, you get a couple dusty fighters to park beside it.
Build a hangar, you get more fighters, faster fighters and they launch faster (refuel and repair times reduced).
Build a runway extension and you can now launch bombers.
The more space you have for an airfield the more powerful the given airfield would become and the larger target for enemy raids.

That would be cool if you could do that and if you're the Germans, you can build an experimental Wasserfall anti-aircraft guided missle. It's real, trust me. It takes out planes in one shot. If you're Japan, you can build anti-air kamakazie planes/jets. If you're the other sides, you have bunches of flak cannons.

I play single when I want some relax and not that stress from online. I usually build some artillerey canons, bunkers and build it slowly, so computer AI starts their attack, a bunch of halftracks, thounsads. LOL Sometimes they use bombers but not so often, but there is so many tanks and and mechanized, I could never build so many of them, and use them so stupid. Airfields come as a counter, but when I get it I always win in single player. Airfileds need to be larger, defense aircrafts could be more usefull than take off just after the 1st bombing. Why those planes are there if they are so useless? More than a larger airfield we need a better AA defense with the planes, to counter this those bombers could defend them like flying fortress.

Great responses! I really like the idea of an expandable airfield, where the size dictates the capablilities. Also, I like the ideas brought up about dive bombers (available from carriers, powerful against only single targets), stronger fighters (research to improve defense range and weapons effectiveness) and bombers that shoot back. Along with the discussion on a Naval HQ and new naval units, I hope this thread finds it's way into a prominant position on the desk of a patch or expansion team member. I'm having a lot of fun with this game and ideas like these are what makes a good game great. Keep it up!

Yeah, I'd really like bombers that shoot back so they have an actuall chance to servive.

this is a good concept (already used in game Real War: Air, Land, Sea). this would also promote more fighters and bombers(which the game seems to lack in quanity)
