Now here's the real run. The object of the game is to be the first coaster to pass a mile. Rule 1: You are to not use the cheat "John Wardley". Rule 2: With multiple chain lifts on your ride, you will be unaccepted with that coaster. Rule 3: The mine ride is unacceptable. Rule 4: All facts about your coplted ride MUST be proven at all times! Your rides will be taken and tested to make sure (witch is proving your coaster facts). RULE 5: NO UNLIMETED MONEY!! You will be able to take out a loan. Please tell me where your coasters will be shared with me and when. If your coaster is is the longest and is not a mile long, that dosen't end the contest. If you fail, I still want your coaster results and proval. You will be offered to try again. I hope ya never give up. Please do not boo failers who have tried to win the contest. Once there is a winner, the next contest will start very shortly. The winner will be announced this contest is to see how good ya are. Thanks.

I ment, the contest starts on groundhog day 2005 at 4:00 PM. Posts will be checked on every single day. You may now start your coaster. Please don't post before 4:00PM Please tell the speed, hight, # of lifts, type of coaster, lift speed, ride name, basic test results, wait.

I would think that you could build terrain then start the park at the top of a cery high mountain point and let it run down hill long enough that soon enough you would get the mile with just momentum alone...

Also if one can only have one set of lift hills, then one should not have any break blocks to keep the coaster speed going...

He probably lives in the U.K. where they use the *blasted* metric system.

1 mile = 1.609344 kilometers

I booted up a wooden this am. Built the lift hill to the highest point, then put just one big drop in it, and finished it off. (A lot like building the rollercoaster in the tutorial.) That gets you about a third of the way to the goal. So if entering this competition, you'll have something interesting to show for it.

The problem with the rules is....

In order to not use unlimited money you have to load a scenario.

The amount of money given and loan amount available is variable from one scenario to the next.

Hence if I load one scenario and someone else loads another we both would have different amounts of money available to us.

You might wanna think this one thru a little more, or at least provide a scenario map with the amount of allowable money you intended.

Another way to do it, is after you build your ride and look to see how much it cost (wouldn't the finacne screen tell you how much you spent?) then you could save that, start a scenario with only that amount of money and import it in?

The problem is he implies there is some sort of money limitation required but he does not state what it is. He just says "take out a loan if you can"... Well as I pointed out, that is not possible because each scenario allows a different amount of loan and starts off with a diff amount of money.

In other words he either needs to be....

1) More specific about the money amount.
2) Provide a scenario (or name a scenario) that meets his "standards".

...not much of a contest.. Did you just kind of go blank while thinking of a contest (with the new message window open) and just start typing? You need some help organizing these things, it's not very fair to just throw a contest at us with little detail and expect us to know exactly what you mean... Good idea for the contest, but it came crashing down when your details were miniscule.

Too bad I missed this one... I coulda beaten DWW straight into the ground :) kidding... Good job DWW

My first thought was would a Wooden Coaster have enough steam to complete the mile. The answer is yes... Just one lift hill and the coaster can make it all the way back to the station. It is probably very boring, but it was perhaps the simplest design, and certainly based on the history of the development of coasters, would most likely have been what would have been built first to make a mile long coaster (though given the time one would have been able to make a smaller lift hill and throw in lots of camel backs, twist, etc...--I do have another that does just that, but it also costs more...)
