Hey,
I was wondering, for the last week of June, I'd like to know what the best deal for tickets is, including the local offers ($5 off i u bring a coke can, etc.), how many days to stay to do most of the rides, the best lodging that doesn't coast an arm an a leg, the least crowded days, and stuff about what the rides and pricing of the other park in the area (Kennywood?)

Well, the best discount for tickets you can get is the AAA (triple A) discount. How many days you wanna stay really just depends on your style. If your the kinda person who wants to take the park all layed back and easy, then stay for 2 days. You can do the park in one day, but you are pretty much hustling if your trying to hit all of the big rides. If I were, I'd just play it safe with 2 days, that way you'll definately be able to get all the rides in, and even be able to reride some. The best lodging, for location, is the Breaker's Express. it might cost a little more than the normal hotel, but it is the closest, cheapest hotel to CP. Now, if you rgoing for the more economic hotel, there are other hotels located in Perkins Twonship (thats where I live, but we are still only 5 minutes away from CP, anyways, we have a Sandusky mailing adress, its really only a matter of driving down the interstate). I actually forget the name of the hotels, but I know the cheapest one is the sunrise to sunset hotel, located over by Meijers. The least crowded day really depends on how lucky you are. The days that do not atract very large crowds are the days when it is overcast, cold, and basically looks like it is about to rain (basically, the first month of CP's season). All of the stupid tourists see the clouds, think its gonna rain, and then basically just leave, giving up on the park. So, if it is cloudy when you come, do not worry, its just normal Ohio weather, it never does rain. As for the prices inside the park, they are as expensive as ever. But, if your are hungry, you might wanna try Donut Time located on the main midway, located by the front carousel. They have awesome donuts for only $1! And trust me, you can get full on only 2 donuts, instead of having to spence $6 on some pathetic cheese burger and 2 french fries.

I spent 8 days at Cedar Point in 2004 and it rained on 3 of those days.

Hyde244, I recommend you go to http://www.cedarpoint.com and check out the prices on packages for Hotel Breakers. You'll wanna spend at least 2 days, and while HB is expensive, the two-day packages are only about $30 dollars more than regular rate, and include some tickets. It's a great deal when you think of the convenience of staying right next to the park... It's got nice pools and hot tubs right on the shores of Lake Erie. I always stay there.

You can find a whole bunch about my opinions at my Cedar Point Virtual Tour (http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/jeffharp/PointEntry.htm)

In short... Breakers Express is generally a pretty good deal. I generally prefer to stay at The Breakers, since it's right on The Point, but it is fairly pricey. You may also want to look into the cabins and cottages at Lighthouse Point as a convenient alternative that's a little bit less expensive than The Breakers (although still not cheap).

There are a lot of hotels in the Sandusky area. Some of them are nice, some are real dumps. Most are not particularly cheap during the season. I would stay away from the Howard Johnson motels at all costs.

For food, a lot of it is expensive, but the Midway Market all-you-can-eat buffet has some good food and is probably the best price deal in the park. Game Day Grille also has some very good food -- far better than typical amusement park fare.

If you want to ride all the rides, I recommend at least 2 days. If you want to catch all the shows and play some games, add one more day. If you'd like to visit Soak City and Challenge Park (mini golf, go-karts, sky coaster) and do some relaxing on the Cedar Point beach, add yet another day. If you're only interested in the major rides, 1 to 2 days (depending on crowds) will work, but if you only take 1 day, you'll have to hurry.

I'm currently planning a vacation to Cedarpoint on August 30th - September 2nd. I been looking at hotel prices, and I can stay about 5 miles away at a holiday inn for 48$ a night, since they consider it off season. .My only thing is though, I want to go to the part for 2 days, and I was wondering if they have some sorta of deal on a 2 day pass, or any discounts that I need to be aware of.

Also, I think goign in the timeframe I'm going in, is a good decision, since most schools have resumed at that time, so the park should be pretty empty and free for me to ride with little or no lines.

Please give me comments! =)

1 day pass is $45
2 day pass is $68
If you go for 3 or more days get the season pass. You should be able to get discounts on tickets in the Sandusky area, but I don't know for how much.

Alright, thanks.. is there anyway to get around the 9$/day for parking? Also if its 9$/day, can you re-enter with the pass they giive you? I've learned from SF St. Louis that buying my Season Parking Pass is nice so I can leave and go eat somewhere nice like Steak N'Shake or Applebee's and then come back is cheaper/better :)

I'm thinking the only way around the daily parking is to stay within the park. To answer the second question, you should be able to return with no fee as long as you hold onto your parking ticket.

P.S. If you go to cedarpoint.com, click on brochure and request one. They will give you alot of info, a map, and some coupons for the park.

If you stay at Hotel Breakers, Sandcastle Suites, or Lighthouse Point, then parking is waived. Also, those hotels usually have package deals that include park tickets. However, it's going to be more expensive than the Holiday Inn.

You can reenter the parking lot on the same day if you keep your parking ticket.

Cedar Point does have a 2 day pass available at the gate (or you can buy it online) which includes Soak City.

Hey Harpo....just curious why you say not to stay at a HoJo? Just in that area? I have stayed at a few in the past couple years in PA & Ohio too & so far they have always been clean & very spacious rooms, and great prices. No problems.....yet....something to be cautious of? :bulb:

There are a couple of HoJo's in the Sandusky area. I almost stayed at the one out near the Ohio Turnpike on Route 250. I say almost, because, after checking in, the room was so remarkably horrible, I refused to stay there.

When making the reservation, I was thinking it might have been a new hotel, since the description said it was on Route 250 within 10 miles from Cedar Point. The Ohio Turnpike exit on Route 250 is about 14 miles from Cedar Point, and I didn't remember seeing a HoJo in that area. Well, as it turns out, the HoJo was on the other side of the Turnpike, hence it was about 15 miles from Cedar Point -- the ad for the motel was just plain wrong. The motel was split on both sides of Route 250, which is a rather busy road. Only one side has a pool. The building was partially below ground, and the room I was supposed to stay in was half-sunk into the ground. It was full of bugs, and a dripping air conditioner wall unit, cracked plaster, and the road noise from Route 250 was horrible -- it was a miserable room.

The other HoJo, closer to Cedar Point, is one that I stayed in before it was a HoJo. It was pretty bad then, and doesn't look like it's had any improvements since, other than a new paint job outside. Also, I've noticed that the prices for the closer HoJo are much too expensive for that type of motel.

There are lots of better choices in Sandusky than HoJo, and the HoJo's don't have the best prices in the area, so I strongly recommend looking at other hotels or motels when visiting Cedar Point.

I made a reservation at "Dust untill Dawn" hotel. It's ran by Sandusky Hotels, hopefully its a good choice :\

Dusk To Dawn is one of the old ones along Route 250. It's been there as long as I can remember! I've never stayed there, so I can't tell you if it's any good. From the outside, it looks like a fairly typical 60's-style motel.

There are three traveler's reviews on Yahoo Travel for Dusk To Dawn. It doesn't sound like those three were too impressed. You might want to take a look at Yahoo Travel to see the opinions.

Of course, if you plan on spending most of your time at the amusement park, the hotel won't matter too much.

The Holiday Inn Express Sandusky received a good guest review, so if the price is comparable, you may want to consider it as an alternative. (I've not stayed there, either, so I only have the Yahoo review to go on.)

They claim they just recently renovated it, dont know, for 50$ a night for that time of year, it seems to be the best place.

the rooms in places u have suggested could accomodate 5 people, (4 in 2 beds and 1 on the floor) right?

Most, but not all, of the rooms in the Cedar Point Resorts can handle up to 6 people, either with or without a rollaway bed. Many of them have two beds and a pull-out sofa. There are rooms with just one bed, however. Heck, some of the Cedar Point Resort rooms have beds big enough where three people could sleep on them without too much trouble! The cabins and cottages at Lighthouse Point were designed to hold 6 people.

I don't know for the Holiday Inn Express.

The Clarion at the Sandusky Mall could handle 4 on the beds, and, if you really wanted, one could sleep on the floor. I don't know if they've got rooms that can handle rollaways.

Rethinking, I don't think we have stayed at a HoJo in OH before, but in NY & PA. With the hobby my family has, we travel to a lot of the Eastern states on weekends. We have something coming up soon & were are looking for a hotel. The place we are going is Lorain, OH - yahoo says it is 55 minutes from Sandusky. I have to look it up on AAA to get a more accurate time. We were looking at a HoJo in Elyria, OH - just next to Lorain - and your post made me think about it. LOL Their site says they are only 25 minutes from Cedar Point?? But can't be - it is like an hour.....
We just called and they said the rooms are $34.95. Sounds maybe a little too cheap...? Was wondering if someone here on the forum has stayed at that HoJo, or in that area? It is on Lorain Blvd, Elyria, OH. The other one we are considering is the Comfort Inn in Elyria. By the photos/video on the site of the Comfort, it looks good to go.
Thanks,
Tootsie

I think I stayed at the Comfort Inn in Elyria a couple of years ago. I don't recall anything significantly positive or negative about it, so it was probably a fairly typical Comfort Inn.

I don't remember why I was staying in Elyria, but I'm sure it was a stopping point on a coaster trip!

Well, we have a reservation for the Comfort Inn......and I can report back how it was....so in case anyone plans to stay there for a coaster trip in the future!
If it's a crappy place, well, it's not like we haven't moved on to find another hotel! But I think it will be fine.... :)

The Comfort Inn is a nice place. Only real issue with staying there if you ask me is that it is 45 minutes away from Sandusky.

Also, Dusk till Dawn did renovate, but all it really was was a new pool.

OK, haven't really caught up on this thread....and meant to update eveyone a while back.
Ended up staying at the Comfort Inn in Elyria, OH. Turned out to be pretty nice. Rooms were clean, etc. Popcorn machine was a nice touch too! :) Made for nice snacks!
Only 2 small complaints - our cable TV went out Saturday night, and we only got a couple channels. Asked at the front desk and all she said was 'I don't know.' We had friends in 2 other rooms & their TV's were fine.
Then, when we went to check in, the lady tried giving us a much more expensive price, we kept telling her no & showed her our confirmation (always bring those). It was supposed to be like $55 a night (I'd have to double check), we stayed for 2 nights. She was trying to tell us that it was $110 a night! That was out total, not per night! But anyway, it was settled quickly & we had a pleasant stay.
There was even internet hookup for the laptop! No charge - except for a $100 refundable deposit in case you didn't return the disk.
Like Hyde244 said, it is a distance from CP, but that wasn't our reason for staying. So if for some reason you can't find a decent hotel for a good price when you need to go to CP, this hotel was nice. Ahhh, maybe someday I'll get to CP!!
