Ill be honest, over the past few years i have never had any interest in theme parks or going to them. I havent been to six flags in years, but after buying this game and playing it, it has made me want to go again. I bought a season pass and cant wait until they open next week. This game make anyone else want to go to actual theme parks?

Well, yes. The first RCT ignited a passion for theme parks that my wife and I both share. I loved theme parks before, but now I have a huge passion for them. I would say that the game reawoke my love of parks.

I was sort of the reverse... my love of theme parks got me interested in the game.

NowThatsPerfect, what park(s) do you intend to visit?

^Same here so when RCT first came out I knew it was a game I just had to get....all things considered it is a whole lot better than those lousy games like rollercoaster factory which had terrible graphics & would crash just as soon as you attempted to run your coaster for the first time.

Six Flags over Georgia. The last time i went was in 2000 and i literally was almost thrown from the Georgia Cyclone coaster. It was very serious incident and scared me to death.. so i havent been back. But im ready to return now, and make sure i am more careful.

Have you been to Lake Winnepesaukah? It's a much smaller park, but it's got a good wood roller coaster, and, when I was there, the staff was quite friendly. Lake Winnie is in northern Georgia, just south of Chattanooga. (As I recall, I got to the park through some back roads in Tennessee, before crossing back into Georgia.)

I mention it as an opportunity that's in the general vicinity, but would give you a look at a bit different style of amusement park. I'm probably going to ruffle some feathers, and I'm sorry about that, but I've not been at all impressed with the Six Flags parks, and, since 2000, I've been to every one of their U.S. parks. In spite of my love of roller coasters, it's actually not in my plans to visit any Six Flags parks in 2005. Something might happen to change that, but, for now, I'll stick with other parks. It is in my plans to visit Dorney Park, Hersheypark, Cedar Point, Kings Island, Canada's Wonderland, and Michigan's Adventure. I generally try to get to those parks every year. Six Flags Great America used to be on the list of attempted annual visits, but it was dropped last year -- I decided it wasn't worth my time, so I went to the Wisconsin Dells, Valleyfair, and Camp Snoopy instead.

Anyway, I hope you have a great and safe visit this year!

^^What exactly happened on GA Cyclone? was your lap bar simply too loose or did it just pop open on you?

I've had a similar problem on SFA's Mind Eraser but it doesn't keep me out of the park,I just refuse to go on that particular coaster again til it gets new trains.

The cyclone has two bars, one for each passenger in the car. The operator only put my bar down and left the other up - which i didnt pay any attention to since this was my first time riding. After the first drop my seat belt came off and i was thrown up against the bar, then i was almost thrown out from under it. The ride was going so fast that i couldnt re-do my seatbelt, and i couldnt let go of the bar or i would be ejected.. i had to hold on for dear life. It was pretty frightening.

Hey, NowThat'sPerfect, are you going on opening day this Saturday? I'm planning on being there and getting my season pass. We could meet up, if you wish.

I think you'll find that SFoG has changed a lot since 2000. A new general manager came in and cleaned house. Staff is friendlier, more courteous, and the park is in much better hands. The trams are back, the park is spruced up, there are several more flat rides... overall, a much better park. I'm not saying it's perfect, but it's certainly better than it was in 2000!

Oh, and I do recommend a visit to Lake Winnie. Cannonball, the wooden coaster mentioned above, was designed by the same person who designed the Great American Scream Machine at SFoG. They also have a wild mouse coaster. Plan on being able to do everything you want, multiple times, in about 3 hours. It's a good park.

How difficult is it to just close the lap bar yourself? if you realize that it's up a few clicks too high all you gotta do is just push it down some more.

I take it GA Cyclone uses the individual ratcheting lap bars, why on earth if there's an empty seatr would the ops allow it to go out open? IIRC all the bars have to be down & locked in order to dispatch a train,

I'm almost ashamed to admit now that RCT2 probably played a big role in awakening the roller coaster enthusiast inside me. We bought the game in December 2003, and my then-9-year-old son had only been to Michigan's Adventure. Well, after getting addicted to the game and seeing some recreations of Cedar Point's rides, we took a 2-day trip to CP in August of last year. This was my son's first trip there, and my first since 1995.

Well, we had so much fun that we went back for a full weekend in September and another in October. Now we are first-time Cedar Fair season pass-holders, and we plan to make 6 trips to Cedar Point this year, and possibly even more to Michigan's Adventure, since it's only about half as far from here and easily enjoyable in one day!

The waiting is killing me!!

NowThatsPerfect, unfortunately I don't have AIM or IM... however, feel free to fire off a private message to me to discuss. There are also a few other local GA people on here, and maybe we can get a group to show up.

As a rule, I generally try and show up inbetween 11 and 1, and stay until the park closes. I'll have to see how tired I am the night before, that generally determines when I'll arrive.

Georgia Cyclone can launch without all the lap bars down. I have had the ops emergency stop the coaster on the lift hill to double check the restraints. Again, training is much better this past year than ever.

That's funny because niether Roar or Wild one can be dispatched with the lab bars unlocked or up & like most woodies both rides operate PTC trains & the control system won't allow the train to go out without all restraints down & locked.

Superman is the only coaster at SFA that can dispatch with a restraint in the "up" position(that explains how the accident at SFNE happened last year)all the other coasters in the park can't.

As for me I tend to arrive at the park on average just after 10:30 am(more like 11) depending on traffic & stay til close....since Supes is so sllow lloading I've actually stayed as llate as 10:30 pm just trying to get a ride on it & they usually close the queue at around 9:15 to 9:30 on a saturday night.

I joined "Keyhole.com" and have been gathering a collection of high-res satellite photos of theme parks. I have a great one of "Magic Mountain" as my desktop. I have been writing in these forums for months, but never figured out how to attach photos. If someone can help me out, I'd love to post my satellite photos.

Hey, Perfect... should have stuck around a few more minutes! Right after you left, I bumped up into a bunch of ACE members and friends, and spent the rest of the day hanging out with them. Had a blast. We're setting up a regular large group to go out there, (we all have season passes,) and maybe they can help you work up the courage! (One of the guys has ridden Acrophobia 32 times in a row, and another one rode it 27 times that day, in 4 hours.) I'll let you know when the next get together is... probably next Saturday!
