The PS2 Risk Global Domination game is not working online at gamespy. Atari has not responded to this problem. Players are unable to join an existing game.

I cant even get this game to create an online game, it connects, then says, you have been disconnected from the server try again in a few seconds-over and over. I have tried contacting Sony, Atari, and Game Spy but they all just keep refering me to each other, all of this makes me not want to play any of their (Sony, Playstation, powered by Game Spy) games at all. Maybe I will just play non-Atari games on Xbox...

I have the same problem. It gets to the point where it says it's conncecting to gamespy, and then it says unable to connect to gamespy network. Why doesn't it work? They lied to us on the game box, manual, etc. If it's not an online game, they shouldn't be saying that it is. I even signed up for a year of gamespy coverage at 9.95 hoping that might solve the problem, but it didn't. So that was a waste. Anyone know of a solution, let me know please at travislynncook@hotmail.com - thanks.

I know the problem isnt with my game, or my network settings... (i also play ffxi online-with no problems) I have been tring to get a answer from atari.. still havent gotten a response. If anyone has any new information or a link that might help or explain what the problem is... Please post it

I don't think atari even acknowledges that they made the game any more. They refuse to fix the problem. In reality we should file a lawsuit against them. That might get their attention. What do you think?

Have any of you actually emailed Atari tech support about this? I recommend this as a first step. Additionally, try and find out if there are people able to play because it's possible you're having a router / IP / port issue and it's not GameSpy or the game at all. It's definately not the game, actually.

so, you're an atari employee are you? Guess what? I'd be willing to pay you 50-100 bucks to come to my house - to have an employee come to my house to make it work. What do you say? Remember the lawsuit I talked about...oh, and that's not a threat - that's a fact. The fact is - YOUR FREAKING GAME hasn't worked online for tons of people. We're not the only ones. If the game does work perfectly, you might want to post a site that tells how to do it. But wait, I think I've already seen a site like that, tried it, and - oh - IT DIDN'T WORK!!!! So, HELP ME. HELP ME HELP OTHERS! Come, on!

I come here of my own time to help if and when I can, so if you'd care to work with me maybe your problem can be solved. You'll have to start with first answering my original questions.

P.S. This is a tech support forum, but it is *not* Atari tech support.

I emailed Atari Tech support with my issue. I even sent them a jpg of the problem. If they can't fix the problem, well, then they need to make a new Risk game that can be played online, and everyone that has ever bought the game needs to get a new game free. It isn't our responsibility to find people that have made the game work. It's atari's responsibility to tell us how to get it to work. DUH!!! Hypothetically speaking, if I sold you a time machine, but didn't tell you how to make it work, whose responsibility is it to let you know? Another customer? Well, since I didn't tell any of the other customers either, that's just about out of the question, isn't it? I mean, seriously, take some action atari. Stop sitting on your butts reading all this and saying "hmmmm, hmmmm......hmmmmm again." Do something about it. It's unfair to the public to sale them a game that comes with lying instructions. Sure, you say what to do to get it to work online, but guess what? It doesn't work. So HELLO, get on the ball and figure it out. Do you WANT a lawsuit coming? I mean, if you do, then fine. Otherwise, STEP ON IT!!!!!!!

The game does work online. As with any online enabled game if a user is having a problem getting into a game it is nearly always A) a setting on their PC / network / router etc. or B) a problem with the matchmaking service (i.e. GameSpy, MSN Gaming Zone, etc.).

So in this case do you have a router and if so have you opened the required ports so you can play this game on GameSpy?

What do you mean by opening the port? And what exactly is the router - is that where you plug your cord into for the internet?

Now we're getting somewhere, thanks. The router would be the device which you plug various cat-5 ethernet cables into because you have 2 or more PC's / internet devices (like xbox, ps2, etc.) at your home on a network. If you have a router it usually has firewall build it and various games / services require certain ports open (think of them as doors between your system and the outside service). Sony also requires DNS authentication and other stuff, i'm not 100% about all of it.

So, if you have a router your PS2 goes through this may be the issue.

The official answer to why RISK Online does not work anymore comes from a member of the GameSpy development team. (The best source to ask.)
They can be found at www.poweredbygamespy.com

You can thank Atari for pulling the plug on RISK Online and probably other Atari titles that used GameSpy (by refusing to any longer pay GameSpy for access to their service).

Here's the reply to my inquiry:

==================================================

Hi Steve,

Atari did not opt to renew support for this particular title with GameSpy. Matchmaking services for it have been discontinued,

Subject: unresolved issue with an Atari PS2 game using "Powered By GameSpy" technology for online play

Hello,

I'm a customer of Atari who is caught between your company and theirs because
of a PS2 game called Risk: Global Domination WHICH IS NOT WORKING using
the online version of the game (which is Powered by GameSpy).

I constantly get the following error:

==================================================
You have been disconnected from the
GameSpy server.
Please wait a few seconds before
trying to reconnect.
==================================================

Each of you are blaming the other for this problem.

While you both do that, I and many others complaining about this problem are not being served at all.

Which leads me to believe that if you're not interested in helping me solve this problem, then why
should I purchase products from either company?

I would invite each of you to contact the other to resolve this issue, so that I can post the solution
online to both of your forums so that many other people will have an answer that makes sense as
to either how to get this to work, or why it no longer works.
