Once you have the starter park place it in the Scenario Folder in your RCT Folder in your MyDocuments folder... Open and run the park as a custom scenario. You can pause as much as you want during the building of your park, or even leave the park completely paused throughout. Try not to run the park for longer than a month as you test rides. An alternative is to save the park while paused, test your coaster, and return to your saved point.

Mulitple entries are allowed.
All entries to be listed or PM submitted to the Judges by midnight May 21st 2005

Hmm... Spooky! Now hopefully we can round up more entrants... Its a very dynamic theme... And a lot is possible... I'll get started tomorrow...

There is some concern about covered rides. I did not change the climate settings as such, so let's see what happens. If the park is rainy and dark and doesn't work I shall make changes. I will begin a test park soon to see if it is a factor in game play...

Very cool. I'm gonna try to get on this one. Hopefully I'll suqeese some working time in between school work...I'm glad the school year is almost over! anyway, nice looking starter park, DWWilkin.

Happy gaming

I have been saving and resaving the climate as Spooky about 6 times, and then opening the park up and trying it out, only to find that it has defaulted back to Desert... This is clearly a bug, but one I do not know if there is a work around for. Patch 2( which I I have) is the one I believe that gave us multi climates, but perhaps it is just not working correctly. So Spooky theme away without rain or lightning.

Now if someone else can take the park and edit it to get the Spooky climate in and post it back, that would be beter.

Park to end day no later than midnight

wtf? that ain't spooky!

Also add it has to be made in sandbox, or I will again make it in scenario editor muahahahaaha. I will wait a week before I begin.

w00t? I never knew there was a spooky climate, but as you know, I like desert better.

Once you get the file, you should place it in your Scenario Folder, and play from there...

Not Sandbox... Once you open the park as a scenario, pause if you wish. This will make accounting the money perfect for the judges...

HELP! I have big problems with the new park! Every time I try to load it the whole computer freezes and I have to shut down. So I went the scenario folder where I put it and found out that it is only 7kb compared to the 2.5mb of all the other of my parks! After downloading it a second time it was still the same! I will pm you also DWWilkin...:(

DWWilkin

Just did a download test myself and got the 832K park... It is called SpookyPark. I am not sure what the problem is... It says it has been downloaded 5 times (now I would guess six times...)

That is really odd.

Here is a pic of what happens to me:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v631/KoasterKid23/SpookyPark2.jpg

When I click through rapidshare it says 852kb, but when I download it the file comes out as 6/7kb.

If we can't get this resolved I will probably check with mbrookes in the help/tech forum.

Yeah both excitement and intensity rose, but no too much. It was kinda tricky building the towers though, because the curved walls and the straight walls don't even come close to lining up. I will probably edit the towers a little bit, but the basic idea will be the same.:D

That's because you pronounce it incorrect.

Not oooo like we do, but the short "o" like clock
Then add "ie" like Ernie's "whieeeeee" (or like tea)

Is it allowed to use the ground shaping tools?

DWWilkin
04-27-2005, 12:53 PM
Though you have a nice flat area, you have 100K to spend on anything you want. So if you want to build a giant hill, or crater, go right ahead...

Bokkie
04-27-2005, 01:32 PM
Nice flat area indeed, but its lower then the scenery edges.

It's a bit a shame that there is no wooden scenery...
Very usefull to make a ghost town, I really don't like the spooky scenery, way to less pieces. (1 kind of roof, no 1/3 height walls..)

Did you already do an Western look park?

Really wanna do that, I'm the master in it :)

A urinoir, does it count as a stall?

DWWilkin
04-28-2005, 07:41 PM
The 18 stalls that you are alllowed would be from the 4 buttons, Food, Drink, Shops, Other (??)

i_feel_sick
04-29-2005, 05:36 AM
Hey DWWilkin, you might want to check out the starter park... nothing actually levels up, paths/scenery/rides, there's something really wrong there!

DWWilkin
04-29-2005, 09:34 AM
I will, but that is wierd, I flattened the plateau with the raise land to the cursor function...

Bokkie
04-29-2005, 11:28 AM
U should use the "flatten terrain for rides & scenery" ..

Anyway, what about the selling items of shops?
When I place a shop, it doesn't sell every item yet.
But since I may not let the park run, I can't invent them either..

Will judges add selling items to the stalls? (If contestent has set money to invent)

Other question, it sais "it's better that the contestant test his/her rides" So I can unpause to test all atractions, but has the park to be closed or open while testing all?

I had selected every spooky item, but possibly under generic inventions I had not added in the additional food items. So perhaps I will get a chance to

1) Flatten terrain for rides and scenery
2) add the extra generic food (2 Chicken pieces, 3 chicken pieces, etc.)

tonight and repost the park.

As for running and testing, After building the park, you can save, run and test the rides if you like them, go ahead with the saved version. You can unpause the game on march 1, run your ride and repause and then save the game, byt hen it being march 3 or so.

Or if you run the game, we (I've so far done this) take your scores at 10/31

The big hint we have has been build your park, save, run your park to 10/31, read the peep thoughts and status information and readjust the park from the saved version.

i_feel_sick
04-29-2005, 01:02 PM
Umm.. So you're gonna post another starter park, DWWilkin? That would be great, but what bout the peeps who already started making their park ?:confused::confused:

DWWilkin
04-29-2005, 01:18 PM
I am going to take a look at it...

If it is a big deal (it might only cost $100 to flatten the park in scenario mode, not a big deal, but if it cost $20K, then a big deal)

and see what I come up with... I'll keep you all posted.

KoasterKid23
04-29-2005, 05:55 PM
I think...but I am not 100% sure...that it only costed me a little over $300, I am fine with this though so could I just stay with my current park?

DWWilkin
04-29-2005, 05:58 PM
Yes, please do KaosterKid

As I said, i'll check myself and if it is cheap, we'll stick with the current park. If I missed the additional food and items for sale I apologize. Will that really effect things?

That shouldn't be too much of a problem...we ALL have to work around it so it ends up being even anyways.

New Pics! I just finished making a small skull shaped pool and then started and finished a go kart/darkride. This was my first darkride or attempt at one, so it isn't all that great, but it still looks really cool. I still have to work a little bit on the interior walls to get it just perfect.

Here they are:

Looks good Koasterkid, but not half as good as my park hahaha ;) (joking)

About the selling items... You CAN'T select them all in the scenario editor. You only can invent them during gameplay (not in the scenario editor since you can't invent something there.)
But I don't like the "worst food" penalty, therefore I wondered if judges would add selling items if the contestent has give an amount for the research.

The flatten terain thingie doesn't cost much, so I just did it anyway.

About the date... Everytime I load the park it starts withouth pause.. I'm already at day 6 just with loading the game...
Though my park is closed, so no people can enter..

May I reset the date in the scenario editor once the park is finished, then let it run just to test all atractions, and then upload the park ?

One other thing, 90% of paths on ground level.. When I make a sloped hill with a path on it, I suppose that counts as ground level too?

DWWilkin
04-30-2005, 10:44 AM
I loaded up the park as if I was an entrant, put in a chicken stand and all the variety of chicken were for sale. So I think that is working...

Perhaps I need to hear back on what stalls explicity don't have items for sale? I am not sure if the AI handles this well but you can always create your own. If you only had the 2 piece chicken for sale, you could drag another copy of that over and rename it 3 piece chicken and price it higher. It might not sell becuase the peeps may be smart enough, but it would get the item for sale at the booth. I do not think in either event this effects gameplay that much.

When I flattened the park it was about $400 so I think that is small. If I raise a plateau again, i will remember to add the step of flatten for scenery and rides. Appearantly the flatten to the height of the cursor does not really flatten. (Learn something about this game all the time.)

On the date, yes that happens. When i finished building Lagos Park for the first contest I had advanced to March 3rd. Please do not reset the date in the Scenario editor. Please just play out the game. You will see that when running, due to the park size you have built with the rides you create, that is what forces the # of peeps in the park (probably with some relation to excitement of rides, etc...) so a few days at the beginning lost do nothing except cut down on a few dollars of profit, which pricing would make up for. As a judge watching so many parks I can tell you that by June I can see the plateauing of how many peeps will be in your park for the 10/31 cutoff.

The 90% is not strictly enforced, but yes to the sloped hill. The idea is not to have suspended pathways everywhere, and not to have raised rides on top of one another with paths to get to them. (How many functional Merry-go-rounds could you stack on top of one another?)

Beta Tester entrant and judges...

here are several of us who are in the Beta in this competition. I will work on the assumption that we shall be able to find a work around for any technical issues that arise during the contest, but we of course need to keep in mind that no entry may include any Soaked material...

Thanks

Hum, will there be any judging of scenery?

Can I start advertising just after testing and opening all rides & park (so just before saving to send in..) ?

DWWilkin
05-01-2005, 12:54 PM
I am not sure if I have the advertising enabled. I think one of our notes suggests that this is something that you should use your money on, but it plays out that you get to that plateau of attendance so it may not matter at all.

As for scenery judging half of the score is based on the subjective look of the park in the eyes of the judges, so you will be judged on how the park's appearance.

Try the spooky shakes to mention one, it sells only one brand of shakes. Same for spooky & witches hats, burgers, sandwiches and a lot of other boots.

Doesn't matter to much I guess, as long as the peeps can buy different things they're happy.

My park is finished, just the last touch of benches, littercans and lightning, and then my staff.

And then finally I can test it...

Nope its the rivevr raft ride.. for the 1st and 2nd SPC, I did the Trams ride around the park... I think a transport ride is very necessary for a "real" park (atleast in the ones i've been in)... Well, and you cant have transport rides in the middle, only around the perimeter (duh?) :D

Maddack
05-08-2005, 08:28 AM
Oh. In that case my park isn't "real" :p oh I haven't seen a spooky park anywhere in real life.

I was just wondering because I have seen a picture somewhere with what I described.

Bokkie
05-08-2005, 11:25 AM
I do know parks withouth any transportation ride though.

I've searched for some spooky themed parks, but or it's just one or a few spooky rides, or it's a "halloween horror" thing, only open with halloween and no real rides, but actors playing horror scenes as you walk by.

DWWilkin
05-08-2005, 11:40 AM
My first park was Kiddie Land in West Los Angeles, since we were very little, it had a ferris wheel and a very small rollercoaster and a Merry go round and some others... It was so small though it did not have a transport ride... Judging is not effected by whether there is a transport ride or not...

Bokkie

Still some question 'bout food stalls.

I've run (sorry for bad grammar) my park for a year, and people are complaining, really hungry..

Ofcourse, when you look at the pizza stall, they only offer a veggie slice (no offence for the vegeterians out there)...

Don't know if that has anything to do with the complaining, but the sandwichstall too only has one selling item...

I tried to invent selling items while testing all atractions, but there's not enough time. Tested how long it took, and it was over a month to invent all items (for the stalls I use)

I suggest for the next compo, start the park, invent all items for the stalls and then go back to the scenario editor to select the date and so on..

Btw, pretty impressed by Maddack's park !!

DWWilkin
05-08-2005, 02:24 PM
I am not sure that choice is the AI issue over being hungry rather than stalls to peeps ratio... And then price also... Broke Peeps can be hungry but can't afford the price of a cup of coffee...

Maddack
05-08-2005, 06:09 PM
I have a suggestion for you Bokkie that I did for the Pizza Stall. I added another veggie slice, renamed it to "Hawaii" (don't ask why) and added all the extras to it. This way I had two different meals. I then raised the price of the slices like crazy. The one with extras costs more (and make more profit) and people actually prefer to buy it! The veggie is there for the cheap people... maybe they want to afford a visit to my expensive toilets!

Ok here it is, my mini park and all it's glory. The money at the top is basically what's left of my money. My gates are going to open exactly on the hour and day you see there.

http://img64.echo.cx/my.php?image=shot00000zw.jpg

Ok from way up there, it looks kinda iffy but at a peep's perspective, it's rather neat.

I could not pick as to what my fav ride was so here are my 4 fav's.

The Haunted River (rapids top left ) - A turbulent tour through the rapids of the haunted forest.

The Bloodsucker - (Virginia Reel top right) - just a regular virginia reel with a cool name

Flight of the Vampire Bat - (Lay down coaster bottom left) - This coaster is a wild, hair-raising ride with near misses to other cars and the track.

Haunted House - (dark ride center) - Inside the main building (which I did much better than expected with) is the dark ride Haunted House. dang I need a better name for it.

Very Cool. And well done. You do have several more days to make more parks should you choose to. KoasterKid generally tries to put a ride in almost every space possible as an example of strategy. I look forward to running your park. Generally I down load parks the last few days of the contest and then at the end of the contest and start the next contest going. After that, it's judging time...

Definately! lol...this gets me introuble when I try to build huge parks though, then the lag monster comes around. :haha: It works out very good with this competition though...

@disneyFREAK
Feel free to use any of my various strategies and probably others...These competitions definately have helped me construct better parks just based on what others have created! Good Luck!

Awesome park by the way! I should finish mine...I totally forgot about it! lol :haha: :haha:

I just counted, and perhaps this time we have 7 entrants so far!!! That would be great. Now that the Soaked beta has ended, perhaps those who were in the Beta can get back to the fun work of the Small Park Coaster Competitions!!!

DWWilkin

Great Vortexian

DisneyFreak: Do you have a saved park version? The idea is you submit the park as close to March 1, year 1 as you can and the judges run it for you. As a strategy what you do is build the park, save it, run it for a year, read your peeps thoughts, then identifying changes you think you should make, go back to the saved version and make them, and then submit the park. Most of this is contained in the first thread...

Good Luck all!!!

DisneyFREAK1178
05-17-2005, 07:02 PM
OOOOOOOOOO. Ok no wonder.

My only issue. What if I can't get it too close to March 1 year 1

Edit: oh wow did I screw it up!!!!!!!!

DWWilkin
05-17-2005, 07:05 PM
I find in the sample parks I have done for the contest I can get it to no later than March 9th and even earlier, (March 2nd) Just hit pause right away, when building coasters, put them in test mode and have the construciton window open and watch the ghost cars. It all works out...

DisneyFREAK1178
05-17-2005, 07:30 PM
uh oh. I think I'm in a jam. U see, I thought you meant, make a park, open it and watch how it works. After the year. You save the park and give it to the judges to see the stats after a year of operation.

Hey wait, I may not be in a jam after all. Oh wait, I think I am. Ok I'm gonna check soon.

Path of peril: purple coaster at the edges of the park.
Witch Brew: river rapids.
-Down for Maintainance- Fair: Area with the merry-go-round, ferris wheel and top spinner.
Haunted house: crowd attractor and just a haunted house.
Twilight Manor: Haunted Hotel in the Back
Bat Fright Flight: Light blue coaster
Heath of the graveyard races: Go karts between the Down for Maintainance fair and the haunted house.

Be c:cool:l

One more thing. I uploaded the park. Now just wait?:bored:

We are getting some great stuff now!

This is becoming very cool. I got my RCT 3 almost back to normal from the Soaked thingie, (no can't say a word...) and so I can start work on contest 4... Western Theme... Which we will start sometime on Memorial Day Weekend.

Yikes...

Well either two things,

1, the site is down temporarily

or

2 we no longer have pages their

So TikiTiki, are you about? Any clues? (Tikitiki also has been immersed in Soaked and had cleared his work load so he could do that instead of focus on this...)

Otherwise you can always PM me and I will send you my email and you can send me your park, which i will then distrubute to the other judges...

Ok my park is fine and completely built but I think I screwed up what I was supposed to do. I'll join the next one and get it right I swear. But as of now:

My park is currently saved in year 2 on July 16. I don't have a file of the park before it opens.

Hi all

I've pm'd Tikitiki who has access to the site at Nick's Video where we host the parks. I haven't heard back from him yet.

You can Pm me and I will give out my email address. I then will accept your park.

As for a deadline. It is May 21st 11:59PM your timezone. (If you are up after midnight that night, you are up way too late on this. Go to sleep ;) ) But I think everyone will be done by then so good luck, god speed, and all the best (Boo!!!)

All The contest ends tonight at midnight your time. We will start the next go round over memorial day weekend here in the states (that's one week.) If our other judges do not chime in soon, I will be looking for a few other judges to go back for Competition 2 and this one...

Hey everyone! I have been working hard at making a cool little video of Skull Park! I am not very good at moviemaking, but I think it turned out very cool! This movie is kinda skippy. Overall the movie is 2 minutes and 12 seconds long. You get to ride the main attractions of Skull Park. The full on ride video is of Goblin...the white and green hyper coaster. Enjoy!

http://rapidshare.de/files/1917000/Skull_Park_Final_-_Small.wmv.html

I will be emailing Skull Park to DWWilkin later today! Sorry if it is a little late, hope you guys dont mind:) . I had to do some tweaking and whatnot before I send it in.

Any idea what the new theme will be? I couldn't enter this one either due to personal reason, showever the next one will be running after school lets out, giving me MUCH more time to work on RCT3 stuff. So, I was just wondering if anyone had any idea about what the next park is going to be.

Happy gaming

Hi all...

I have four entrants turned into me as of now. If there are others (Wicked sorry you had to drop, hey guess what is now touring in LA (or will be shortly) should I go. I have been listening to the cast recording. I like Popular...) please PM me for my email, or put them up on the web so I can download it.

The next theme which I will be hammering out this week is... Western... (we haven't done that yet.) I am thinking we should follow this with Generic which would be up in July, and then follow that by our first Soaked competition...

I am open to hearing your thoughts on this however. I have not built out the park yet for Western so if there are some definite opinions, please let me know.

Maddack, with the site down, I can't get to your uploaded park, can you send it to me?

Now for judging...

I hate to say it but our other judges are not as forthcoming as they have been previously.

Perhaps it is time to try something different.

I have forms that do the various ratings. For the most part they come in the same except on subjective which can be worth half the score.

What if I let the entrants judge each others park, that is you run the park to 10/31 record the data and send it back to me. I then put that in my database. On the subjective part, you will be grading everyone else but your own. This then will be averaged together... Any thoughts or comments? Or perhaps we will hear from our judges...

Bokkie
05-24-2005, 01:16 PM
That's good for me.

Everyone gets one park?

DWWilkin
05-24-2005, 01:53 PM
The way I have it is everyone looks at all the parks, runs them and submits their results in various categories (like profit on 10/31, etc...) Entrants run all parks but their own...

Hey guys,
The idea of judging each other's park is great. But not for me, as I will be away from my system in just 2-3 days :( Off to university.. So no RCT3 for me for a long, long time... So things may not go as planned...
BTW, what bout the judging of Retro Sci-fi...?

DWWilkin

then send out the details in a later post.

Judging

Here is a layout of the what we need to judge for competitions 2 and 3. I think at this point in time the best way to do this will be to open this up to all of the current entrants...

Don't judge your own park

I shall provide in the next few posts links to each competitions parks so you can download them

Then you can fill out the judging sheet and email me your results. You can PM me, or you can post your results in a post and I shall compile it. Perhaps if we want we can start a seperate thread for the judging (chime in please)

Here is the form and a link to the excel form I use:
Park Name
Entrant
Judge

##
# of Peeps in park 10/31
Park Rating 10/31
FPS 10/31 (rename a peep "FPS")

$$
Cost of Park
Remaining $$ (100,000- Cost of Park)

$$
Cash 10/31
Profit 10/31 (This is current cash-Remaining $$ from above)
Park Value 10/31
Company Value 10/31

# Fireworks (3)

# Shops
# Food Stalls
# Drink Stalls
# Other
Total of (18)

# Janitors
# Mechanics
# Security
# Entertainers
Total of (18)

## Excitement
# Coasters (3)
# Junior (6)
# Thrill (12)
# Gentle (6)
# Other Rides (6)

Total Rides/Excitement
Average Excitement

Subjective Rating 1-10

http://rapidshare.de/files/2572839/SmallPark.xls.html

to use the form, or send me feedback, we of course need your name, and the park you are judging. Take the financial readings

Then run the park, you can do this at FF until 10/31. Rename a peep if you want to award the optional FPS award please... Then record the other numbers. Some like # of staff and stalls is to ensure the submitted park is within the guidelines.

In each of the categories of rides add the total of those rides 5 thrill rides of average excitement of 3 each means 15 excitement points on that line. This is a validation to ensure that the numbers I have are correct.

The judging is 5 points for first place, 4 for second, etc in these categories:

Least cost of Park
Most Peeps
Highest Park Rating
Greatest Profit
Highest park Value
Highest Company Value
Highest Total excitement
Highest average excitement

and then the subjective rating which is worth 4 to 40 points. Your score of 1 to 10, times 4 is the value...

Any questions, please ask.
