View Full Version : What About....
....releasing the old Gold Box Series with Dragonshard or an XP compatable version budget title. I would love to replay those games legaly. I don't want to dl them with an emulator 'cause I'm not sure if that is breaking the law or not because someone still owns the rights to them don't they.

not sure who owns the copyrights to them anymore, i know they were originally released by SSI and developed by westwood. and i'm not sure if they are being considered as discontinued but i am sure someone somewhere owns the rights still.

If you are in the USA...
Last year, I read that a law was passed to say that a ROM is legal IF you legally own the game (say for GameBoy and you want it on your PC, then it's ok as long as you have it with you).
That is very cool because I still have the Gold Box series. Both of them. The Drangonlance and Pool of Radiance games. That Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :haha: :p ;) :) :D :D :D

yeah but that law is being contested because it's too broadly written, as it is now it's legal to make a backup copy of any media including dvd's. (though it's illegal to make dvd burning software that cracks the protection)

No worries at all here: The Gold box series are mostly Abandonware now.

Thats Secret of the Silver Blades, and you can link to the other PoolRad series from there.
Question is whether you can get them to work on todays computers :)
My Pent. 90 was speedy for those games. Of course xp is a lot better with older stuff than win95 or 98.

I've always thought that maybe they should re-release the old gold box games on the Game Boy Advance. Straight port, none of the revamped graphics they tried to do with the NES. Shouldn't be too hard, and it'd be great fun.
