Oh yeah, are you going to add those corkscrew and look supports that many corkscrew coasters use in the expansion thing? What about the catwalks, are they staying the way they are?

As for the scaffolding type support, what about using a blank or tiny unnoticeable object, but have it supported by the scaffolding in the game? Using the "supports from hell" method wouldn't really work that well since there would be alot of wasted polygons.

Well done pumper for the great scenery and support sets you have realeased.

I mean BLOX, These supports and the Dark ride sets have changed RCT3 forever i don't see a park nowadays without them

You, marnetmar, Caffinated and icecats are the kings of custom scenery

Followed by Park Novice and everyone else i have missed.

You have changed this game for the better.

Well done.

- James.

Thanks, but I have to respectfully disagree.

I simply made something useful (using the Text Generator tool inside of milkshape no less), my modelling, texture, and other skills seriously lack (look at that bridges project if you don't believe me...they are not very good at all). I do have a grip on the guts of the stuff to help out others, but I'm nowhere NEAR the abilities of these others.

Followed by Park Novice and everyone else i have missed.

I should be down below this line :).

I'm also a fervert supporter of it, and will do my best to do what I can for others doing it...I still don't have the pure talent that the others have.

However, for Pumper. Perhaps a look at the path setting may be warranted for the wooden supports. Paths DO block the whole range of the support. However, the minute other scenery is added on the same tile they come back. It's a toss up, but still may warrant investigation.

Just lower the support remover under the ground! It works everytime for me!
Flowers are pretty though :).

Well Caff/Caffinated thats why you are a king'ish person because you in your right mind have created something that everyone uses.

Good luck with the eighth size letters they will surely help a lot of people.

I agree with the above poster, your letters have totally transformed the way people make their parks. Everywhere you look, people are using your letters.

Oh man, I look at all those pictures and can´t believe how much your wonderful custom supports change the look of RCT for the better. Its amazing, and the programmers of the game should take good notice.

Now my problem: I am using the european retail version and the supports don´t show up in the game. I tried the automatic download and the manual unzipping. Do I miss something or do I have to extract the files to a different folder in this version.

I had no problems downloading the electro-set and some other custom scenery packs. But this is the one I want the most!

Can anyone help?

Thank you guys

metromover - the Jcat_steelworx folder is inside your themes folder with all the other themes correct? Inside RCT3, it should be showing up in the walls/roofs directory. Try deleting the folder, and reinsitalling - I know that worked for someone else who had a similar problem.

Hopefully tonight I'll have a demo shot of the wild mouse/spinning mouse supports.

I planned on using your pack to update my Loop Coaster, but it doesn't seem to work...

Any chance you'll be making a smaller version of this for the smaller loop. I forget the exact name of this coaster. I think it's the power launched one, or something like that. :noob:

Those frames were designed for the twister style coasters (more rounder loop); I can narrow/shorten them down and produce another set for the update pack.

shyguy
08-30-2005, 12:30 AM
What would be REALLY cool if you could design it like this, with the main supports coming in on an angle...

http://img396.imageshack.us/img396/6571/loop4qt.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

This is the way the original shuttle loop was built. Montezooma's Revenge in Knott's Berry Farm and Tidal Wave in Great America (don't know if it's there anymore) both used this shape, I believe.

One more request... (Well, there could be more. You never know)

Could you make a support that's not quite as obtuse as the V-Support (I think that's what you called it)

http://img380.imageshack.us/img380/6137/support5uk.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
The supports are much too wide. The white lines show the size that would be much better.

That loop frame is supposed to be for the steel looping coaster (called the looping coaster in RCT3). The car is the Anton Schwartzkopf design, the loop frame was part of their design. The loop is smaller on the coaster, as well as more elliptical. A good example is Scorpion at BGT and Mind Bender at SFOG.

There is an alternative Schwartzkopf made, used on the Revolution at SFMM...it looks much harder to make

Here's what I'd like to do with your vertical and horizontal beams. Unfortunately, because of collision detection, I can't build pathways up to the windows, even with the M Brookes cheat. Any chance of releasing these with collision detection turned off???

It was me larry, I got it working, but I have to get the texture fixed to match the in-game walls better. I posted a pic in my thread, which is probably back on page 2 now. I think it's in the next to last page of the thread. ;)

Pumper I know you've stated how unnecessary creating wooden supports would be. Is it possible to create wooden textured pieces on which could be used for extended structural scafolding?
It makes the woodies look so much more realistic!http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/3851/shot00373dj.png (http://imageshack.us)http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/5563/shot00387vs.png (http://imageshack.us) http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/8793/shot00396ph.png (http://imageshack.us)
The pieces I've used work well, but just not detailed for the wooden coasters as far as the different beams are concerned.

Vodhin
09-06-2005, 04:08 PM
The best way to make wooden supports would be with transparent elements- the beams would be 2D on an invisible 3D cone. Base blocks could be 3D, so as to look right. Until transparent textures are figured out, wooden supports would probably eat up too much cpu & memory.

Hopefully we'll get some soon, though, the woodies just don't look right without them...

JCat
09-06-2005, 05:01 PM
Will definitely look in to this in the future (wood support work) - I see where you were going with that, Gabird - excellent work, even though of course, those are steel). Once the transparent thing is worked out, I'll be looking at that route for the wood work (as Vohdin suggested).

Right now, I still have to get out version 2 of steelworx (which includes new pieces and updates on some of the old), but that's delayed as I'm currently in the Wild beta, so I can't bring any custom scenery in until the beta is over.

RCT4me
09-08-2005, 04:12 PM
Sorry for the bump but for wooden supports, the problem is that you don't have the nescessary texture to make it, but maybe with rctdump (and without the soaked expanison) you might be able to use it. Go for that instead. Otherwise, you've got 3d wooden lateral structures, and the main supports are 2d, flat, and ugly (maybe make a replacement for those? :D ) Also, what about the scaffolding idea I mentioned? (Using some dot or something hard to see and specifiying it to use support and being able to choose from wooden and steel supports) Oh yeah, is it possible to use LOD yet? If not, you might want to use less sides on the supports to keep framerates up. (8-12 sides is good)

I just wanted to thank you for this... by far one of the best things anyone has ever made to make this game more realistic.
One thing im hopeing for in the next release of this, and maybe its already been said and i missed it, but you need inverted A frames at a diagonal for lifts on a 45.
I've figured out how to work around that with other supports but it would be more realistic that way.

Thanks and keep it up!

I just realized that In one of my sandbox parks, when I use the A frame support for the giga coaster, my game will crash. Needless to say...I had already had 80% of my coaster complete when this happened! So I've had to redo the ride and it's only in that one park that this happens???

hey pumper, just another idea for a custom support
for corkscrews, if you could make either a box or wireframe support the is on a diagonal, and attaches to the top 45% of the corkscrew, it would help with realism greatly in several of my parks, because i have the walkways underneath the corkscrews, and the overbank and t-supports just don't look quite right coming out of the pathway,
try this for an ideahttp://www.coasterimage.com/pictures/cedarpoint/corkscrew07.htm
this is corkscrew from cedar point, it is the only corkscrew coaster i could think of that had the corkscrews SOO close and directly above the midway
Thanks!, oh, and if you could shape the box loop support to the other coasters as well, not jus tthe box frame intamin/b&M coasters, that would be awesome also
goota say, this is the one thing that has made this game playable for so long, your supports, keep up the great work pumper!

Thank you -

I'll look in to new ideas/requests at some point. The beta of Wild had me busy, as well as the fourth quarter now on us and in the video game industry (which I'm involved with), you don't have time to breath. A revised Steelworx (including updated catwalks) along with many new parts (especially for Mouse coaster fans) will be available when I get a good block of time, which at this point may be during Thanksgiving vacation. :bulb:

Sorry I haven't been around to review the latest work from a good deal of you.

oh, one more thought pumper, i have what some people have said is the annoying habit of building things on a diagonal, like lift hills, and if would be awesome to have the catwalks and a bottom for inverteds on the lift hill, where i have a loop threaded by the lift hill
just a thought, its obvious that you have a lot on your mind!
but still appreciate what you have done even in your first version, they are AMAZING!

Downloaded and am enjoying these supports.

Only one request: On the Strata Supports, is there a diagonaled angled support you could add to put at the top of the support structure? I have the Angle 2 supports making a triangle towards the top of my Strata, but one other diagonal connecting the corner beam to the point on the other 2 angled beams would make Strata supports look as real as you could possibly get.

Thanks!

I guess you mean the Steelworx theme pack. This might help you out:

You can download either the Automatic Installer, or the Zip file.

Automatic Installer (EXE). Download the Pumper-SteelWorx.exe file. Click on its icon, and you will be presented with an install screen, which will automatically install SteelWorx to the proper directory: Just click "Unzip", and it will add the folder to the proper directory on your C DRIVE. If you have RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 on a different Hard Drive, then make sure you change the "C" to the Drive letter where your RCT3 Game is installed.
** This is based on the directory structure for the US version
SteelWorx Automatic Installer 509KB V 1.1 (http://www.trackworx.com/Pumper-SteelWorx.exe)

Manual Install (Zip)

If you're having problems with the installer, you can download the zip file, unzip it anywhere on your hard drive (which will be temporary), then drag the entire folder to the following directory:
C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3\Style\Themed
SteelWorx Manual Zip 479KB V 1.1 (http://www.trackworx.com/Pumper-SteelWorx.zip)

For more information, check out the SteelWorx Help/Tips Page. (http://www.trackworx.com/Steelworx.html)

Are you trying to use these in a sandbox park? If so they should all show up, otherwise you'll have to wait for them to be invented or move them to the invented section in the scenario mode.

as far as finding them in game, they should be grouped with the generic wall category on the building list

I don't think it is the supports I have used them extensivly with no problems. The only thing I can think of is if they were installed incorrectly somehow.

Xtreme_Gz,
Which drive do you have RCT3 installed in ? If it is something other than C: then you would have to change the corresponding drive path while installing the pack using the AutoInstaller (it's set for Drive C as Default)

Xtreme_Gz

Yeah it is in Drive C. everything is in the correct folder yet I dont see a thing when I open the game.

Should the file be saved in themed cause when I click on the file Themed more files are in there that contain spooky, space etc. all except for Generic...will it work if I save the file in one of them?

Whats wrong with it?

Please don't triple post, just edit your previous post to add to it.

If you installed it correctly, you should see a folder in the Style/Themed folder named Pumper-Steelworx, inside that will be a folder named JCat's Steelworx & the style.common.ovl & style.unique.ovl files.

If you don't see these, then do a search on your computer for Steelworx & see if it shows up somewhere else on your "C" drive.

Now then, try looking at the page linked below & you can get both versions of the files. The exe (self installing) & the regular zip.

Either download the zip file alone, or the "Self Installer" - which is straight forward.

If you download the installler, you simply run it, and choose the "unzip" files. You then proceed and it installs to the proper place. If your Hard drive is not "C" - you simply change the letter first where you see the line that shows where it will install to.

Aside from that, there's a help file on this that you may want to >read< which is near the top of this forum; here's the link

Should be one ' main' folder in your themes diectory titled pumper's steelworx, inside that folder is another folder called JCat's Steelworx- and the two files you mentioned. Now, Inside the JCat's Steelworx folder should be a ton of little files (those are the supports). If all that checks out, the only thing left to do is load up RCT3 and check under your walls/roofs scenery and it should be there (they are not in the scenery directory with the statues, lights, dinosaures, etc..)

Where are you trying to use the supports... As in Sandbox, Scenario(Career), Scenario Editor?

They should show in sandbox games or games in the scenario editor. But, since they are in a park you imported, they are in the game.

Hi, I'll give my preference If you don't mind...I'd like to see the Schwarzkopf loop support like on Scorpion or Mindbender with the solid steel piece or if that's not really possible then maybe the pipe structure like on Revolution at MMountain, either way i'll be overly satisfied with whatever you're willing to put up for us!

Thanks Man!!!

I know this post was made a long time ago but, what Mindbender? I know Six Flags has one, but I also know my home town's roller coaster in West Edmonton Mall also has supports like that over the loop.

Anyway nice creations there.

Great job on this set, Pumper. Quite frankly it's one of the most flexible sets I've seen. If you ever find the time to add more to this set could you consider the following?

- Catwalks with rails on both sides and a turn around straight catwalk piece (has railings that cover one long side and two short sides and aligned so the catwalks butt onto it) so I can make a set of stairs down from a mid-coursebrake run.

- a 0, 30 and 60 degree Chain Return pieces for use on lift hills.

- 60 degree catwalks for use on steep lifthills

Thanks Leonardofury

This may sound weird, but I cannot find a full square horrizontal support. I can only find the extension and half-peice. It makes supporting vertical drop rollercoasters that go underground very hard because you cannot put the curser in a deep hole.

And if its possible, could you make like a 10 square support killer? It would make things go much faster.

The Support Killer is with all the rest of Steelworx are - it's called: Support Killer.

Speaking of the support killers... Any know why they dont seem to work on the wooden wild mouse?

Because they were designed to get rid of steel supports, for steel coasters, hence the name "SteelWorx".

they are the actual support killer peaices. I had this problem when placing them before altering the terrian.

Normally the best why is to alter your terrian first and than place the support killers.

Also another problem is after altering the terrian and using the support killers they dont allways hide the origanal RCt supports. but to get round this problem hold down the shift key and click, as you would when altering the hieght of a wall peaice ect.

Hope this helps

Yeah, that's normal - those were made way before Jonwil introduced alpha effects to the importer. In fact, what I'll do is revise the support killer to make it larger in size, and get rid of the solid surface beneath and re-release SteelWorx with that change (if you guys don't mind reinstalling Steelworx that is).

I wish I had seen the post about the support killers before you spent time on it Jcat as the solution to the problem is to use the small stones that came with the original RCT3 and set them below grade. It kills the supports with not odd visual effects and if anythign shows it looks like a rock.

But now that you fixed the support killers... Never mind.

JCat
06-07-2006, 02:36 AM
That's a great alternative - this only took like 10 minute to update. The support killer uses up less polygon power as it's a single plane object (one side of cube basically). Now with this update, that blue underside should be gone as it's a simple alpha at work. I've also eliminated the collision detection on all other objects, which I didn't realize were still turned on (then again, I haven't looked back at this set since last November or something).

Thanks RCT3Man - See, I can make something that will probably remove the wooden supports a lot easier. Unfortunately, the big problem is that like half inch of planks that won't dissapear from the bottom of the woodie track, and winds up looking worse. I don't know of any way to remove that.

NGS -

Delete the old folder first. Go to Program Files/Atari/RollerCoaster Tycoon 3/Style/Themed folder.. and delete Pumper-Steelworx.

I'm about to install the new pack, but sadly I have one more question. This seems obvious to me but I want to hear the answer from you ;):
The game won't crash if I install the new pack over my old one, will it? Shouldn't it just replace the already used Steelworx in my park automatically?

JCat
06-07-2006, 05:30 PM
NGS -good question. It shouldn't however, the folder name is different (use to be Pumper-SteelWorx - now it's JCat's Steelworx). I don't know if it will have an effect on the park, however, if it does, let me know and I'll rename the folder on my server back to the original name, and then your park should load back with no problems. I also left a copy of the original Steelworx on my server as well. In the new version, the icons, objects and category name inside the game are the same, just the folder it's stored in in the themed folder is named differently.

Why don't you just avoid the hassle of reinstalling the pack, and release the support killer as a seperate pack entitled "Jcat's Support Killer". :p Or if its possible, compile a pack with a few types of support killers: steel, wooden, path killers (would be nice), and any other type. Path Killer? That's called right clicking the mouse. ;)
It's best to keep the support killer with the supports, otherwise people have to go in and out of different theme while working.

EDIT

I've renamed the folder back to Pumper-Steelworx - so if you have any incompatibility issues, just go back to the very first message in this topic and re-download from the provided links.

For what it's worth, I had no trouble with the renamed folder but to be safe, I reverted back to the original name.

I also removed the old pack first, installed the new one, and opened my park which I've been working on for months and which uses a lot of SteelWorx items...including a lot of the support killers.

I then opened up my park...everything works perfectly.

Now...with the revamped set now re-named, do we need to take out the JCat set and install the new Pumper? I just don't want there to be all these different versions of the same pack if it can be avoided and I'll switch it out again to be safe if I need to.

JCat

MrPKI - Nothing's changed, except the support killer's texture basically (which is inviso). So yes, if you have previous parks saved using support killers or any steelworx stuff, nothing will be affected.

WagiBear - Just leave it as is. I realized, the only difference betwen the two was the outside folder which stores the inside folder - and which was never renamed. I belive what's important to RCT3 is the inside folder which has the ovls (all the objects) and that's always been JCat's SteelWorx. Only the outside folder was renamed from Pumper to JCat and then back to Pumper. :haha: Confusing, but in a nutshell - either download would not cause problems.

Instead of having to place/bury objects under them to get rid of the support. Sort of like a transparent "small boulder" type object if you will. Also is it in the style/themed folder?
Hmmz, it is, I also have KLN-Framework which is in the same folder. I do see that one in-game but I don't see Steelworx :S.

Are you trying to use Steelworx in a Scenario? If so you'll probably have to move them to the invented items to see them.

Short between chair and keyboard there.

the steelworx files go in a subfolder off of

C:\Program Files\Atari\Roller Coaster Tycoon\Style\Themed

at this point, I suggest just redownloading it, and unzipping it direct to the above path, making sure that the "Use pathnames" tickbox is checked.

However, I downloaded the Custom Scenery item Steelworx and I everytime I go to place a support the computer freezes. I'll click on the support in the scenery tab and it then freezes. I build the coaster and then go to add the supports and it freezes. Is there something that I am forgetting or doing wrong. Please help me..........

I am trying to finish a "TOP THRILL DRAGSTER" project that I have been working on for quite some time. I am requesting or asking if you could make a set of your 'Coloured Beams and Poles' to extend on the center of the grid squares. (refer to post 406). I am trying to make "TOP THRILL DRAGSTER" a 7 or 9 tiles wide instead of 6 or 8...So that it will be more to scale. Your set is set for an even numbers of tiles across...I need a set so i can do odd tiles across. I need this badly to finish my ride. Could you do this ASAP.

I downloaded them, put them in the right folder, and they appear in the game where they should. Now, I got gold for Christmas, so I uninstalled RCT3 and put gold on, then Re-downloaded the thing and put it in the folder. I use rollercoaster tycoon 3 a lot and would love to have access to these supports, I have tried both the zipped and automatic versions of steelworx, the game is on the C drive, and the file is in the right place when I look on in the file. But the supports appear no where mentioned on these forums, I can't find them,

Please can someone help me,

We need more details before we can help you.

It would help us a lot of you could open up your ...\Style\Themed folder, and take a screenshot of that for us, and post it. It's not that I don't believe you, but it is very easy to think you installed it right but not to have done so, and it is very hard to describe in words what the folder structure should look like.

If you can open up the steelworks folder within Themed and take a screenshot of that as well, it would help even more.

Also, a third screenshot, of what it looks like in-game when you open up the "walls" menu, and turn off everything but general. Scroll down to where something that starts with "J" would be (it's alphabetical) and then take a screenshot of what that looks like.

That will help us see what exactly is going on in your system... We could do this with words but it'll take forever and it's very hard to describe. A picture's worth 1,000 words after all.

As your Themed directory is empty beside the CS set, you obviously installed into the wrong directory. There need to be several directories from original RCT3 in it. It's also a bad idea to keep the zip in there.
Obviously you didn't read the tutorial.

On the first screenshot, you show the Pumper-SteelWorx zip file in your c:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon3\Style\Themed folder...get rid of it!

That alone can cause problems. No zip files belong in there at all, I'd store it elsewhere...maybe make a folder to hold copies of all your downloaded custom scenery. Also don't place Read-me files in the Themed folder either.

Second - what version of RCT3 do you use? Look under c:\Program Files\Atari to see if you have more than one RCT3 game listed. Some versions of the game use c:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon(R)3\Style, while others use c:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon 3\Style without the (R) symbol. This happened to me a long time ago....I found that the exe. file of a custom scenery set I downloaded included the (R) in the destination and my game version doesn't include that symbol. The .exe file created a secondversion of the RCT3 game file under C:\Program Files\Atari. That second version was basicly empty except for the custom scenery files the .exe tried to install.

If I'm not completely off it's always been like that.

Gonna' have to disagree with you on that Belgabor. If I remember correctly, the support killer used to be only a quarter tile and did not have any shadow. With what I downloaded recently, it's a full tile with shadow. I love this set but this may actually discourage me from using it.

RCT-Chessack
02-15-2007, 03:36 PM
MJB -
You can get rid of the shadow effect by lowering the invisible killer tile 1 or 2 ticks into the ground. This works on hills, canyons, etc, too... just put it UNDER the terrain surface by 1/3 of a tile height (the height of a single raise/lower increment) and you will lose the shadow.

Freddie -
Bel is right. The fact that your Themed folder is TOTALLY empty other than Steelworx means you have installed it into the wrong directory.

Try this: open up your themed folder, then go into Tools -> Folder Options, click the "view" tab, and check "display full path in address bar" and "display full path in title bar." Then go back to the folder and take a screenshot of your Themed folder with the full path visible. This will let us see where you have installed this file.

It needs to be in the Themed folder within the directory where the game is installed (whatever/Style/Themed). Since everyone has a different directory structure it's really not possible to know the exact path. For instance, mine is on the D: drive. I have never had an (R) on any of my folders, though.

I don't mean to be a pain, but I was wondering if you, or someone here could make "extension" pieces to go with the "diagonal" and "angled" pieces in this set. It would obviously make this set more versitile and useful.

I'm somewhat computer illiterate and don't know the first thing about makeing custom scenery. But someone on her could do it possibly in minutes. This is for a Top Thrill Dragter Project I've been working on for a few months and I would like to release it...So far, it is completely to scale as posible and includes every detail except for the pieces I need.

I'm begging and I would appreciate it alot.
