5th Small Park Competition--Generic

A small, balanced, working park...__________________________________________________
For the competiton (Updated 7/1/05):
Generic Theme only

31 by 31 max size (961 squares)

Maximum of each Ride type:
12 Thrill rides
6 Gentle
6 Junior
6 Others (includes Water rides)
3 Coasters

**Note that you may have 2 of the same ride (Tea cups 1 and Tea cups 2, this would count as 2 rides)

Maximum 18 stalls of various types
Maximum Staff of 18 (And as many vendors as needed)
(This does not include the Park Inspector so you could have 19 staff)
Maximum of 3 fireworks shows

Park to end day no later than midnight
90% of Paths at ground level

Criteria to win:
1) Best use of Money$$
2) Open park and run without tweaking for 1 year and see a park rating by the judges (taking an aggregate of their scores)
3) Overall total of Excitement
4) Averages of Excitement

Special achievement for highest FPS

Judging categories:
$$ spent to build park
# Guests at end of year 1
List of what guests are doing at end of year 1
List of what guests are thinking at end of year 1
Total profit at end of year 1
Park Value at end of year 1
Company value at end of year 1 (Start with 1000 only for contingency money to pay your staff.)

**Note that the Judges will open your park, open closed or testing rides, but it is better if the entrant does so. The judges will not do anything else but observe your park for a year. Judges will not modify Fireworks shows for start times or months playing.

Once you have the starter park place it in the Scenario Folder in your RCT Folder in your MyDocuments folder... Open and run the park as a custom scenario. You can pause as much as you want during the building of your park, or even leave the park completely paused throughout. Try not to run the park for longer than a month as you test rides. An alternative is to save the park while paused, test your coaster, and return to your saved point.


Comeptition will last for 1 month. (July1st to July 31st)
Mulitple entries are allowed.
All entries to be listed or PM submitted to the Judges by midnight July31st 2005

Our upload site for the parks and judging went down this month and we are working on another. Please PM me for an email so you can send me your part. Or place on a hosting site somewhere and post the location to the thread so I cna retrieve the entry.

You're right it is generic, i'll go change that and I will index Tiki's uploader later. As for Soaked, i think you can load the park if you have Soaked an hopefully if you don't. BUt I did keep out most of the choices from Soaked so go for it. A pool is generic, but I would like to keep this competition Pool free. The next one (If we are in agreement unless we decide to let it be all RCT3 themeing) should have Soaked content...

Yes! this is great. I have one question though; what do you mean by this: Company value at end of year 1 (Start with 1000 only for contingency money to pay your staff.)

Does this have anything to do with staff training or just how much you actually pay the staff for their work. Sorry if this is a stupid question.

No one has done it yet, used up all 100000 to make a park.

If you did i would leave at least 1000 to pay the staff. The company value for grading is the numbers in the financial screen. COmpany Value, Park Value...

OK thanks, I guess that doesn't really apply yet.

I did notice that the starter park is only 27x30 instead of 31x30 (although before I thought it was 31x31). Didn't know if that was supposed to happen or if it was really supposed to be bigger. When I loaded the park it had the little shark logo by it so I kinda doubt people without Soaked could play it. There were some rides and scenery that came with Soaked in the park. You did say you took out most of the Soaked content so I wasn't sure if this was intentional or not.

Hopefully I'll be throwing my hat into the ring on this one. I had a lot of fun just working out for the western. Whether it came out on top or not...doesn't really matter...the process of fitting a park inside the little square was quite a challenge :).

Are tunnels allowed if we have Soaked?

Pls explain how people without soaked can open the parks if you used something from soaked? the roses weren't in the original game, but they are outside the park. and also the city background is from soaked. so I would say Soaked only for this one.

Well...

Just about everyone chimed in the last time saying they had Soaked... So If someone doesn't and wants in they can PM me and I will uninstall, make a template at that time, then reinstall Soaked...

As for tunnels... Lets let everyone else chime in about it. It is a generic item certainly as it does not just pertain to pools and the new rides. So that seems allowable. We will get a consensus on this, and then I'll rule...

For the main entry. If you would like to change it please do. Yes I made a mistake and forgot to switch from Western... Oops...

I think tunnels would be okay. The same goes for waterfalls. I think you said in the last competition that someone could open the park in the scenario editor and change the entrance. I wondered if I could add a few more trees outside the park. Is that okay?

I might not be able to judge this competition, depending on how quickly everybody turns in their parks. The contest ends on the 29th, I leave for SoCal on the first.

EDIT: What should we do about the Soaked issue? We can have tunnels, can have waterfalls, can have new rides/stalls, CANNOT use the new scenery, and CANNOT use the new pools/water slides. But if they want to use the new White Water Rapids, or the Stormrunner, that would be fine with me. But it's ultimately up to DWWilkin.

The trend seems to be that since we always wanted Tunnels in the initial release and now that we have them, we should see if we can make something good with tunnels, so tunnel away. This should make some of the parks cost a little more as you modify the terrain inside the park to get a tunnel...

Micksvideo format was before you joined our competitions. TikiTiki has been kind enough to use his time to create an uploader and a tabiulator for the ratings, but it was closed on us during the 3rd competition, so we have been looking for another solution.

I have PM'd Tiki and given him my thoughts, but ultimately I leave this to his hands because he will be doing the work, so I wanted it to be not stressful for him, and not too much of a time consumer for him.

I worked trough the whole night to finish off a park I started when I realised that I was still using the Options.txt cheat.

I guess we aren't allowed to do that right?

Anyway it's not a big deal. The park was not that great anyway. I kinda thought that 31*31 tiles would be more then it actually is.

My Railway (+stations), Flume, Vintage Car Ride and Coaster take up way to much space leaving me with just a few flatrides.

I still like how it turned out since it is my first finished park in RCT3 :noob:

What does the options.txt cheat do specifically to this park? We can possibly accept it as an entry.

The max for rides so far has been 13 I think crammed into the park... So yes, having a few big rides cuts the space down and then puts in just a few small rides. I imagine with tunnels allowed a few of our adventurous will try an underground ride and thus get some more development space in their parks...

BTW, you can enter many parks throughout the month, no one is limited to just one.

well I mainly use the AttractionSceneryAllowSceneryIntersect 1 line.

What it does exactly I cannot really say. It gives me more options to place scenery and walls/fences. Like the hedges on the side of the railway track.
I also took 1 visitor in and renamed him M Brookes so that I can place walls on paths.

If you could include the option to use either of these cheats I think it would definatly add up to the challenge. If you haven't got your options.txt file changed you can still see the park like I build it. You just can't use the cheat yourselve. So it wouldn't matter if some would use it and others wouldn't.

And I think that those cheats are a vital part of the game. I couldn't live without them actually (I like the freedom to do what ever I want and this gets me a bit closer) :)

So basically all he did was build scenery that intersected with other objects, right? I don't think that's too big of a problem for me if he enters this park. Although this might make other people want to do the same thing; something which I'm not sure you want for this comp.
It seems to me that it's ultimately up to you if you want to let enter it or not.

I'm not going to be entering this competition and possibly others in the future. I've taken on multiple projects that have no relation to RCT3 (more relation to my everyday life) and don't have much time to play anymore. This is a great competition though and I hope others will come on board and take advantage of it. :up:

I've patched up a couple of security wholes in the uploader, worked on the admin cp a bit, and have made some progress on fixing the filenames.

Also, I have added some code that will remove bad characters such as spaces. This should help alot in compatibility.

I suppose we can do it something like this:

-- We have a special upload folder for The Contests, that can only be seen by peeps who have access to the admin cp. The after the contest is over the admins can allow acccess to the files which will move the parks into the general parks folder of the uploader. Then all the rest of the pics and videos will just be normally uploaded.

I hope this sheds some light on what I am doing. I really want this compition to do good.

I've been having a bit of trouble with inspiration for this comp. The theme is so wide that it's hard to decide what to do. I did decide on something though. Here's a teaser pic for Oak Town. Wow I don't know how you did that, but you did! I tried your trick for rides without floors. It worked well. What would really be cool though is a pirate ship swinging over water. Too bad pirate ships are adventure themed...Oh well.

I finished my park last night and uploaded it this morning to the site. Hope you like it. (Note: I put in the extra trees and half the entrance in the scenario editor, the rest of the entrance was done with money)

Oak Town is a small forest town with buildings made completely out of oak wood. Most of it's rides are older-style rides, but are still very exciting none-the-less.

Well, I've been debating whether or not I wanted to enter the competition based on time stuff.

But then I got bored of WoW for a couple nights and started to work on the coasters :).

I'm nearly done (a few touch-ups may be needed before final submission, but this should be basically it) and here are a few shots of the park.

Hi all

I'm home for an hour or so, before leaving for a meeting. I now have our five entries.

I shall be sending them out to our judges and then we shall be getting on with the next competition.

So far it looks like time to get wet. I would start with Generic Soaked, adding the lines for 3 pools to our competition, and 3 waterfeatures (Slides)

I think that would be a good addition.

I think we can run this competition from this Sunday through the end of September. We can Follow with an Atlantis theme, etc in the following months which will take us to Wild...

In my opinion pool entrances aren't shops/stalls.

I am open to commentary and thoughts...
One comment I will make is that all we are doing this time is adding pools to the generic theme. It just seems like a different twist on the last competition with a few new rides. I'd like to work with a different theme (i.e. Atlantis or Paradise Island) especially since they work well with waterparks. That's my opinion though; I can still work with generic waterparks if that's what we do.

Sorry that I didn't participate. I forgot all about it. And Generic isn't my best theme style. Probably You will see me again after the next contest, when you start with Atlantean or PI theming. And I warn you guys. Those themes are two of my best themes. Good luck to you all;)

It is still early days yet. Those factors that you cite go into the only a few of the criteria that get judged. You still could do well...

It's fine with me if you only use the two you have. It's always good to have three, but if it takes too long to get one then you may as well stick with two.
