I purchased Civ III when it was first released, it has been a staple time killer for me, sitting in airports, bored in hotel rooms, etc. There have been some expansions, I have purchased and patched as necessary to keep things going.
However, I recently came across what I thought would be a simple problem to resolve. My CD cracked. Any company out there that sells software knows this happens, you contact support and they give you an RMA number, you send back the original and they give you a new copy of what you already paid for.
Well, welcome to Atari. We'll answer your questions with questions, misdirect you and tell you to **** off before we'll do anything that resembles customer service. I was told by a rep to " fly back to the city you purchased it in, give them the CD with the original receipt and have them exchange it for a new copy".
Yessir, pay $800+ for a round trip ticket and go to Best Buy with no receipt or original packaging for a swap on a $30 game. Instead of $2 on priority mail...
Yeah I know, I could just go out and buy another copy or even a new release but it's the damn principal... why is it so tough to be like other software companies and offer customer service?
I'm done with Atari games as long as this is the service that can be counted on. Yeah, I'm just one customer. No big deal.
