View Full Version : Fighting Engine For Driver 4?

I would personally love hand combat in driver 4, so this thread is to state your opinion if it should be featured and also how would you want it to play. I would want it to feel quick and brutal like some real street fights. Kinda of like what Tanner did to lomaz in that cutscene in Driv3r. Like UFC Sudden Impact's punching engine, where you could see hits connect with good enough detail. Make it a real brutal struggle so you dont pick as much fights and so its not as easy as gta's engine and include some takedowns that result in mounted positions that could be reversed and also being able to hold someone against a wall or gate of some kind to really have an upper hand like the cage in UFC. Just picture showing your friends a replay where you were fighting on the ground on a mounted position and accidently rolled with your opponent to oncoming traffic where both of you were run over. And as for people who dont want out of car action, im not saying make it a forced part of the game just an option for who would like that. So dont go to crazy with hate replys. I just think reflections surpassed any "GTA TYPE GAMES" excution of gameplay with its (My Opinion) solid feel of shooting physics , cars physics , motorcycles physics , crash physics , graphics, damage level and even enviroment realism. So how can they fail in surpassing the rest in a fighting engine. Remember my opinion.

Not a bad idea. I would like that.

thanks, i mean i still want undercover mode to be all driving like a sequel to part 1 & 2, but i want take a ride to feel like a whole different mode with new gameplay goals and structures like if its a sequel to part 3's gameplay for the people that enjoyed part 3 and this i feel (this fighting engine)would enhance fighting for the genre since its not thathard to beat. Yeah true crime had a in-depth fighting system but its not often in LA you'll see people fighting like jackie chan in the streets so i lost the feeling. Something like this will feel real, fun, and undone before. I just hope people dont fall in love with next-gen's Saints Row for Xbox360 cause then driver 4 will be "not as good as it and cheap" to many critics. Damm haters. :sulk:

I say scrap weapons/fighting all together and go back to Driving which is what Driver was about in the first place.

I agree, but only in Undercover. In Take a Ride, I want to be able to go around shooting and fighting with people.

Its a tough choice to make. On one hand you got the series original fans who would buy D4 anyway. On the other hand, you got the people that liked the shooting in D3. Which one do you go for? Well, no that doesn't make sense, cause if the originals would buy it anyway, no need to focus on what they want.
I did like the shooting part, it could be better with some work, they've had a year so far, and still have until March (apparently). If they make the Driving more like 1 with better physics, but the same feel of the cars, I'll be happy. And if they improve on the shooting and AI for on foot, I'll be happier.
Saints Row, isn't that the game where you play a wigger? Looks stupid.
Oh yeah, another thing, I was expecting to be able to punch and kick since, you know, you could get out of the car.

I think there should be some options:
TAR:
Driving
Shooting
Driving and shooting
And so you could pick what you wanted to do.

The game would be like playing Flatout, or Test Driver eve of destruction, where you can't get out your car, if this happens, what matt_jon says is all right, but I bet even some of the fans will not buy it, due to the fact they were exposed to shooting part, making them want it back. BUT: if they are true fans they will buy it because they enjoy playing the game.

As long as it has good chases like the first one I'm sold. I wish they would release replays they made on Film Director this time instead of trailers, so we could see what the chases were really like. Hey, if they make the game good, they might tell us the truth! I remember when waiting for D3 everyone was complaining cause none of the videos or many pictures showed cop cars. Isn't this game about cop chases?

There should be a fighting engine with tons of martial arts moves as well as Wrestling. You should be able to perform grapple holds, submissions on/off the ground, lift someone into the air, and there should be sweat for everyone in the game. Like if you're running too much, you'll start to see Tanner sweating after a period of time. The fighting engine should be realistic. I also would love for the ability to interact with all kinds of things in the game like in WWE Smackdown Here Comes The Pain you could stuff the opponent in a shopping cart and watch him fall off, chockslam him off a cage, and even smash him through a car. In Smackdown vs RAW there was a mode called Parking Lot Brawl where you damage your opponent by performing actions on cars like watching him hit the windshield, closing the door over and over again on his leg, and fighting inside a low rider hitting his head on the horn. What if we could perform such actions and even more actions. This would be fun especially if you fought on top of a car and did a powerbomb into the roof of the car. There you should have realistic damage to cars (by smashing into or driving someone's body through it) and realistic damage to vehicles as well as people. You should get bruises, cuts, and even stitches. That would be the best fighting engine that anyone has seen. I wish that Driver 4 was this good with fighting.

thats good ideas with the detailed damaged on characters and cars while fighting, although i cant picture so much wrestling moves it would be good unlockables and add variety

I'd rather just have a punch and kick. I don't see an old guy like Tanner doing gay moves on other men.

With all the new info coming out i wonder if they'll have a fighting engine? They most likely will have it cause it'll create a variety of crimes for other people to perform, also it'll look better them fighting and sometimes shooting then just shooting eachother.

If Reflections does make a fighting engine, will it be like GTA's or The Getaway Black Mondays.

So is that a mission where the guy wants to jump off the roof, or is it a random occurence throughout take a ride?

It really doesn't matter that much for the game to have wrestling moves and it would also look retarded if Tanner was doing Karate. So it would be better just to punch and kick the person. Maybe a fighting system as that of Chronicles of Riddick Escape From Butcher Bay would be cool. That way you would be able to do uppercuts and more. A drop kick would be cool too.

if there is a fighting engine, i want it to be simple, but fun. there would be a small variety of things to do but it would still be awesome, like, if you see a random person that isn't even trying to hurt you, you could go up to them and just sucker punch them right in the face, and then kick them. same from behind, only you would kick them down, and then get on your knee and punch them. if somebody was trying to fight you because you killed someone, then, you would throw normal simple punches and uppercuts, until they are on the ground where you would kick them.
thats all. simple, but not boring. im assuming i will be using weapons most of the time anyway, since one of the articles stated there would be a large variety.
