Hey everyone,

ive been playing iwar2 retail for about a week now, i was a big fan of the demo when it came out but never really got into the retail, and i finally got it for a good price. i was wondering, when do i get to upgrade my ship? i know you can recycle items to manufacture parts, but everytime i recycle my parts (ive tried them all) nothing appears in the manufacture menu. im getting wasted in some of these missions and i need upgrades.

please help!

You need to trade for some blueprints first, I don't know if you can pirate blueprints or not I never found any that way certainly.

Other than that you need to wait until you can trade for new parts.

Yeah, go to the trade screen, and see if you can satisfy trades. so you can get better thrusters, weapons, etc.

You are stuck with the Tug for quite a while, though. If you can't trade to get what you want, go pirating.

Just to clarify:

Ship upgrades are gained as part of a trade, using cargo that you've stolen in exchange. The upgrade comes to you ready to be bolted to your ship. Manufacturing is when you create something yourself. When you recycle some of your cargo, it is disassembled to the atomic level and then used as raw material (metals, hydrocarbons, gasses) to 'build' something. You can only build things that you have the blueprints for, and you get new blueprints by trading cargo for them. The type of cargo you recycled to get "Manufacturing Units" is totally irrelevant. 10 pods of rocks is the same as 1 pod of hovertanks, as far as manufacturing is concerned. The things you can build, or rather I should say the things you can find blueprints for, are mostly ammunition. So if you find yourself using a lot of missiles, for example, it would be worthwhile to trade for a set of missile blueprints, because then you can recycle worthless rocks and sewage into fresh shiny ordnance.
