Hi All,

Epic Middle States is nearly done. We started Beta back in June and uncovered some really evil problems. The beta team did a great job of tracking down the issues and helping us isolate the problems.

We were able to eliminate everything but one major problem. The standard PS code has a feature that will "short cut" capsule jump a player over multiple systems. Meaning that if there are 10 systems on your jump path, under certain conditions, the autopilot will jump you straight to the end system, skipping the 9 in between. While this is a great time saver, it makes a total hash out of the trade and economy code. Not to mention reduces the danger from pirates considerably. (and makes it hard on your poor wing men left 9 systems behind).

So this summer has been busy trying to find ways around this trouble. Rather than keep fighting the issue, the decision has been made to release and work the problem in the next version. The game will be fully playable, you just won't be able to use the autopilot to navigate between systems.

There is still some tuning and documentation to put into order. But it will not be much longer.

Thanks for the patience. We are looking forward to the release!

Sounds Good, I think a reinstall of EoC might well be on the cards.

The Middle States is nearly done. I expect to have a release candidate this week. If that tests well then it will release to the public the first week of October. (Which is why I freaked out when I lost my video card!)

This is very very exciting. Welcome news to brighten an otherwise crappy week! Roughly how big a package will this be? Is there any way those pathetic isolated few of us still on slow dialup service can pre-order this on CD or DVD? I'm happy to pay for storage medium, burning, shipping, etc. charges to cover costs.

The installer is 100 megs (compressed). Rather huge. I would be glad to send you a copy for free. If anyone else is limited to dialup/relay link send me a pm.

We are in the final stages of testing. The game should be out Sunday. It should be fun!

Do you folks have a website for "Epic Middle States"? What it is, what it does, all that jazz.

We are running this the opposite of most mods, all content, no web site!

Just kidding. There will be a big forum post and a web page up when the mod releases. Features, screen shots, all that stuff.

Here is a thread with some information. It was the call for Beta Testers this spring.
Beta Thread (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=473124&perpage=30&highlight=&pagenumber=1)

The testers found a crash to desktop related to those planets. So they are postponed to a later release. But the described features are all in the game.
