My family has been thinking about going to PA for a mini-vacation(I live in Ohio) sometime in the fall, and I wanted to get your info. What do you think the best park in PA is, the rides and why?

I think there are 3 or 4 good choices. Part of the decision depends on when and how long you intend to be there. It also depends on just what types of attractions you like.

My personal Pennsylvania favorites are Hersheypark and Dorney Park. Kennywood and Knoebels are very good choices, as well.

I think Hersheypark is the best choice for a multi-day stay, as there's so much to do in and around Hershey. Also, Hershey has a couple of excellent wooden roller coasters.

If a waterpark is of significant interest, then you'll probably want to consider Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom. Dorney has a couple excellent steel coasters, and also a very good waterpark (which is included with park admission). But, if you're going in the fall, the waterpark might be closed by then. By any chance, coming from Ohio, do you have a Cedar Point season pass? If so, it is also good at Dorney Park.

If you like more of an historical feel, then I'd point you to Kennywood. They have some great, old wood coasters, and some other neat attractions that you won't find anywhere else, such as their car ride.

If you're interested in camping, or a bit more laid-back setting, then go for Knoebels. I found that one to be a very relaxing little park, with two very good wood coasters, and delicious food.

There are also quite a few small parks in Pennsylvania that would be good for a couple of hours of fun. If you're looking to stay in one spot, however, the four parks above, in my opinion, are your best Pennsylvania choices.

Being that I'm a Cedar Fair stockholder, I'd very much like to direct you to Dorney Park. However, in my opinion, if you prefer wood coasters over steel, then Hershey is a better choice. If you prefer steel coasters over wood, then Dorney is your better choice.

HersheyPark, man. That park is the best, I love everything in it. Although I never got to ride Stormrunner while I was there...... :sour: oh well, I got to ride everything else, and go an extra day free! :D

At Knoebel, admission is free and you pay as you ride, but at Dorney and Hershey, there is a one time admission fee. Obviously Dorney and Hershey are much larger than Knoebels. Knoebels is m,ade for families while Dorney and Hershey are geared towards thrill seekers more than family. While Dorney has Camp Snoopy, it can be very crowded, and that's not good if you have small children.

As Harpo said, Dorney is more of a steel coaster park. Their one wooden coaster, ThunderHawk, is nice, but nothing really special. Dorney recently opened their newest coaster, Hydra: The Revenge, a B&M Floorless. The park also has Steel Force, a hypercoaster, Talon, a B&M Inverted, Laser, a looping cvoaster and the Wild Mouse. If you are looking for a waterpark, Dorbey has it, but you'll have to go in early September to hit WildWater Kingdom. The water park doesn't operate after September 17. Dorney also has Halloweekends Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in October. I've never gone curint the events, but its worth a try.

Dorney's website is www.corneypark.com.

I live closest to Dorney (about an hour away in the Poconos) so that's why I'm going on mostly about it. :) Hope this helps.

hey thanks for the info guys. Its probably going to be Dorney or Hershey, but its looking like Hershey Park( my family likes the idea of hershey chocolate:D ) I think i would rather go to Dorney because of the steel rides, but they both sound pretty good. Thanks!

If you guys want to do a one day thing, Dorney is perfect for a one day trip. We arrived there at opening, and finished around 6 o clock in the evening, giving you plenty of time to reride stuff, as well as have wiggle room for Wildwater Kingdom.

Also, Hydra, Talon, Laser, Steel Force, Thunderhawk (and ofcourse wild mouse :p ), it is honestly an awesome line up for sucha small park, and willd efinately give you some awesome rides.

I have never been to doreneypark. I have been to hershey. It is like a combo between disney and cedar fair. It has the thrilling, fun, revolutionary rides/coasters as does cedar fair lp. However it is like disney in the sense that it is also very family oriented, because of all the kittie rides and the cleanliness. Not to mention the guest services. Once, My little brother got lost, and within 5-10 minutes he was found. Not to mention just the atmosphere of the park. It just gives you this tingily feeling allover. Plus, the fresh chocolate makes fancy european truffles look like oriental trader shapped chocolates. Plus, Hershey has some legandary wooden coasters.

Wildcat- Great coasters international's first coaster. (perhaps the best woodie next to boulder dash.)

Comet- I have never ridden it, but I have heard about the historic Philliedalphia tobbagan coaster.

Lightning racer- My first woodie. It has a very unique feel to it. (on the lift hill on the thunder side, you will see a mini-mart

steel that I have been on

Wild mouse- A fun wild mouse. Better than muholland madness.
