It better not be down tomorrow, i'm going.
Hey WW, how often is TTD down? This year has been fantastic. Atleast its not KK.

Ur right. TTD has been running FANTASTICLY this year. It has only been down for three weeks this year (oil spill, lauch cable, whatever it is now).
Kingda Ka had the spaz out like TTD did, but CP probaly would of fixed it quicker, but 2 months is RIDICOULUS, and with no updates on it's status. TERRIBLE.
SnooSnoo, I had checked the Point Buzz forums, and say it might be a week. Hopefully it will reopen sooner, or tommorow.

Well TTD didn't need to have a piece shipped all the way from the Intamin plant in Europe. All they needed when TTD broke is a cable. So thats why it took 2 months.

From what I understand (mostly from viewing various message boards and news sites, but some from talking to full time staff working at the parks)... TTD's biggest problems were design-related, and were Intamin's issues. KKa's biggest problems were maintenance-related and were Six Flags' issues.
During the first testing for TTD, however, there was a mistake which resulted in one of the trains having to be sent back to Intamin for repairs, but the other 5 trains were still available for use. (The manager I talked to knew of the mistake, but he wasn't sure if it was Intamin or Cedar Point staff running the ride at the time of the mistake. It was still in early testing, however, before the park was open for business for the 2003 season.)

Thats because so much was broken when KK went down that they HAD to send in for more parts. SFGAdv only had so many parts to spare and they went way over the maximum. Had it been the maximum, you would have been looking at probebly 2-3 weeks of downtime, not 2 months.

According to this (http://www.coasterfanatics.com/sec_news/news_detail.asp?id=844) TTD is down indefinitely.

it was a good coaster, albeit kinda short... but the thing that got me was that the music and sound effects seemed more intense than the ride itself... "baby i'm ready to go!" lol

LOVED THAT SONG!
I had heared that Dragster's season may of ended early, as they do not know when it will open, and it appears the problems may be serious.

Possible? Certainly. Does anybody in this forum know? Certainly not. Many of us will be there during Halloweekends, and we'll all be disappointed if TTD doesn't open before season's end. But I have faith that Cedar Point will do whatever possible to get it fixed quickly, and it will be reopened before season't end. I'd be terribly upset surprised to think they didn't bother fixing it because the season't winding down.

You say a ride that has broken down for 3 weeks is running fantastically? In all the parks ive been to rides seem to close for 1 hour most.

I had just seen that TTD aparently had may ny rollbacks, and it just shut down ever since.
Harpo
09-15-2005, 06:20 PM
Hmmm. Lots of rollbacks aren't too unusual -- I've been lucky enough to be in the front seat on a rollback. But, if they couldn't get the train to go over the top, it's possible that the hydraulics sprung another leak. I know that leaking hydraulics was a huge issue during the ride's 1st year. The leaks could make it where insufficient thrust was available to get the trains over the top.

Yes, but that's good for the Intamin Stratocoasters. Look, KK was down for two months.

i would'nt think that it is closed for the rest of the season....that announcement would have already been made don't you think?
also, so SFMM is getting a new coaster...is'nt CP and SFMM like at this race to hold the title for most coasters? does this mean CP will be getting any new coasters?

Yeah, though CP rumors say that they might get a Screamin Swing or something in Fronteir Adventures.

On Cedar Point's blog, they showed a paper that was "found" in the trashcan by the Town Hall in Frontiertown. The paper was covered with dirt, but indicated it was for the 2006 plans.
From what little was visible, I saw something that looked a bit like a counterweight. From that tiny bit of information, I have deduced that the park is building the World's Tallest, Fastest, and Scariest Guessing Game Toledo Scale -- No Springs, Honest Weight. Step right up, and have your weight instantly visible from up to 2 miles away! Now THAT'S the scariest ride in the park today! Just the thought is sending a shiver down my spine!
Note: Any correlation between this prediction and reality within this dimension of existence is highly improbable, to such an extent that it should be ignored completely, except by those in desperate need of something attempting to resemble a smidgeon of humor.
As for a Screaming Swing, I wouldn't be surprised if such a ride was added to the Challenge Park area, but I'd be a bit surprised to see one inside the park, due to the rather low throughput of the Screaming Swing rides. Challenge Park is where Cedar Point puts the extra charge rides, which, considering that it is an extra charge at Knott's Berry Farm, seems like a reasonable possibility.

CP also keeps hinting that they're adding in a new coaster next year... to the point of when someone suggested they were only adding a flat ride, they were corrected. I've got a feeling that they're adding in multiple rides in one year.

If they were adding a Coaster, you would know about it. Its hard, especially with the Ohio Winter (which SUCKS, BTW) its hard to build efficently. Flats don't take nearly as long, hence MaXair wasn't released until barley before the season.
Coaster for '06: No
Flat for '06: Possible
Nothing new for '06: Most likely

Actually, I think it should read:
Coaster for '06: Possible, but not too likely
Flat for '06: Probable
Nothing new for '06: Highly unlikely.
Management knows that, the last time the park added nothing, attendance dropped sharply. That was more than 20 years ago, but they still remember, and won't make that mistake again.
As for building in the winter... I worked at the park in 1988, just before Magnum was built. By the end of the season, there was nothing visible of the Magnum construction. Same can be said for Iron Dragon, Mantis, Raptor, Avalanche Run (to become Disaster Transport), Corkscrew, Gemini, and all of Camp Snoopy. Of course, when those items were built, HalloWeekends had not yet begun -- the park closed for good after 3 "bonus" weekends in September. Pre-closing work had started on Wicked Twister, Mean Streak, Millennium Force, Top Thrill Dragster, and Power Tower. The indication would be that rides that need deeper foundations or large numbers of foundations will start early, but ones with shallower or fewer foundations can start after the park closes for the season. So, don't expect a 500 foot coaster for 2006, but a coaster is not an impossibility.

From what i've heard, its a part that needs to be shipped. If they get it by middle of October, you MIGHT get it for the last weekend of the season, but most likely done for the year. Sad, I wanted to head up one more time with my season pass.

On Sept 18, I had an employee tell me TTD was down for the season, but I've heard no official announcement, so it may have been speculation. As I stated in my earlier post, I expect CP to make every effort to get the ride running before season's end. If they don't, I will be terribly dissappointed.
