View Full Version : Demo problems (fast forward and sttuter)

Just installed the demo and i think i'm expriencing some kind of bug... first of all, in the begining, right after you go pass the screen that explains the interface i see a clip with no sound and a brief title of "david cage" at the bottom and the waitress of the diner in the background moving in super fast forward and the entire thing (i'm assuming some kind of interview with david cage?) is over in less than 4 seconds. than the demo starts fine, I can move inside the bathroom but when i exit to the diner itself everything is screwed up and no matter what i do everything is again in "super fast foward" mode and i get busted in 3 seconds no matter what i do and get the "game over" screen to retry.

this is very annoying as i am dying to play this demo.
I have a very stable system, latest ati drivers and directx and an amd 64 2800 cpu running windows xp.

Has anyone else exprienced such things? Can the developers help somehow?

Oh dear, I think you AMD64 is too fast for the game. It appears the game doesn't have a built in speed limiter.

I have tested the Game on an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ witch was using an X850XT PE Card. The Game was running fine and i didn't had any Glitches.

Could you give us more detail's about your System. Best would be if you use the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.

To do so please follow those steps:
From the Start menu, select Run.
Enter Dxdiag.exe and click OK.Use that Saving Option which you can see on the main register and post the content inside here. I'm sure that way we can find a solution for you too.

I am, it's AC '97 on board used in so many other motherboards...
I'm not taking it out of question, i just think it would have been spotted by other people as ell (it is a very common card i think...)

I'm kinda doubting it's a soundcard problem, but anyone else got some ideas?

Hmmm....using a Vibra 128 soundcard no problems at all. Have you guys tried decreasing the hardware accleration for your soundcard.

It's set to No Acceleration already.

I turned it on and the game seems to be working. No jumpy intro. *crosses fingers*

I stopped doubting since Bill Gates PC crashed at a press conference and no one did know why.

Trust me it could be all and nothing. Some PC are even that strange that they crash if the room where they are standing in are over some special temperature.

In your case i wouldn't be 100% sure that the Game is supporting your graphiccard. Since the demo didn't had any readme or any other information about that topic i guess we can only guess if it might be somehing with ATi Cards or again an bad driver problem.

Besides that. When was the last time you did update your soundblaser driver. Creative is one of the worst companies if it comes to support older cards. You should check out there webpage and see if you can find anything new for your card.

Decreasing the hardware accleration for your soundcard might also be a good start to see if the Soundcard is the Troublemaker...

Might be some driver issue with your OnBoard Card. Rechecking the Nvidia Page for newer driver might help in this case. Also the Realtek (http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloads.aspx) Homepage could be a good start to search for newer once.

Trust me it could be all and nothing. Some PC are even that strange that they crash if the room where they are standing in are over some special temperature.

In your case i wouldn't be 100% sure that the Game is supporting your graphiccard. Since the demo didn't had any readme or any other information about that topic i guess we can only guess if it might be somehing with ATi Cards or again an bad driver problem.

Besides that. When was the last time you did update your soundblaser driver. Creative is one of the worst companies if it comes to support older cards. You should check out there webpage and see if you can find anything new for your card.

Decreasing the hardware accleration for your soundcard might also be a good start to see if the Soundcard is the Troublemaker...

Might be some driver issue with your OnBoard Card. Rechecking the Nvidia Page for newer driver might help in this case. Also the Realtek (http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloads.aspx) Homepage could be a good start to search for newer once.

Turning on the Hardware Acceleration did it. Game ran perfectly multiple times. Thanks for the help guys :-)

so kylah - your problem was the hw accel. was off?
Mine is set to on, but i'll try playing with that when i get home.

Paso: I am using the latest drivers for my realtek and ati card.
I am defintly not ruling this out as a possible cause, just saying it might be that the new drivers are simply not good enough? ;)

I'll let you know if i can get around this in a few hours...

Naa... still jumpy and unplayable.
I've tried all accel. settings and installed the newest drivers from nvidia/gigabyte/realtek.

Damn it ;)

Anyone knows if there's a way to get help from the developers/support on this? I'm guessing i'll have problems with the full game just as well...

After an hour or so, I figured out the problem.

I have ATI 9600. Thought that was the common
thread with other people having problems.
Updated drivers from ATI. Still fails.

Then I noticed that someone said soundcard settings affected
this. Odd.

More interestingly: I noticed foodfight had TotalRecorder
installed, which is a program that serves as a front end
to your sound device.

So do I!

I went to Control Panel, Audio
and changed the default device to my sound card, rather
than TotalRecorder. Both for sound playback and sound recording
there. Then check "Use only default devices" to be safe.
Hit Apply.

Now demo works.

I actually have two sound card choices. Via (onboard) Vinyl AC'97
and CMedia (CMI on a pci card).
Both worked if I chose them directly.

I didn't change any hw acceleration.

So: anyone with problems: check if you have some kind
of front end audio app, like TotalRecorder. Bypass it like I note
above.
