1-4 are easy for me. Depending on my mood, 1-3 are largely interchangeable, and could be considered a tie.
1. Raptor (CP)
2. Millennium Force (CP)
3. Top Thrill Dragster (CP)
4. Magnum XL-200 (CP)
5 is quite a bit tougher, as there are so many coasters that I consider to be so close in ranking. But, I guess I'll put my favorite woodie in that spot:
5. GhostRider (Knott's Berry Farm)
Very lucky for me that my favorite 4 coasters of the 599 I've experienced over the past 6 years are all at the park that's closest to me! (I'm hoping to get to 600 this weekend.)

Don't mind at all!
If I manage to arrange it for this weekend, I'm hoping to go to Canada's Wonderland, where Italian Job Stunt Track will be #600. I'm hesitating a bit, however, because my fiancee can't join me this weekend. However, I'm resuming classes shortly thereafter, so this weekend is the best option for me. Hence my dilemma -- do I go for the weekend without my fiancee (which she SAYS is fine) and get one last visit before I have to resume studying for my MBA degree, or do I stick around while she's off doing other things, and only get to see her in the evening (and maybe for Sunday golf) anyway? I just don't know what I'm going to do, but, if the weather looks like it'll be good in Toronto, I'm leaning towards going to Canada's Wonderland.
I would have liked to take an extended weekend in December to go to Busch Gardens Tampa -- haven't been there for a while -- but I don't know if I'll be able to manage it. My fiancee will be recovering from hernia surgery, and we're trying to save up money for our wedding and honeymoon in April. (We're still trying to figure out how to register for Demon Drop and Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall on our gift list -- figuring it'd be His 'n' Hers Freefall Rides! :D )
Certainly, my coaster riding will be slowing down after marriage, but it won't stop completely. Meanwhile, I'd like to get in what I can!

Florida is usually nice in December, so if you can swing it I would go. You probably knew that already.;) Anyway, good luck with your his and hers wedding gifts.:haha:

Man..... I notice a lot of these rides aren't really good rides. They're just at the big maga-parks that play up their rides as the greatest, but are really lacking. If you all would seriously want a top 5 list, you need to visit some individually-run parks. They almost always have the best coasters.
I'm really tired of hearing "Cedar Point...Cedar Point...Cedar Point...Cedar Point...Cedar Point...Cedar Point...Cedar Point...Cedar Point...Cedar Point...Cedar Point...Cedar Point...Cedar Point..." when there is so much else out there! I'm sure it's a great park, but get out there and experience a family-run park. The experience it completely different and it's usually for the better.

Well, I've been to 179 parks, and my 4 favorite coasters happen to be at my favorite park, which is Cedar Point. There are some small parks I really like, such as Holiday World and Silverwood, but if I could only visit one park, that park would be Cedar Point.
It should be noted that one of the little parks I've visited also ranks as the single worst park I've visited: Williams Grove. I'm not sure if you could pay me enough to revisit that park, it was such a horrible experience.
You may have a different choice of what coasters and parks are your favorites, and that's fine. But don't even think about telling me what coasters should be my favorites, for I will take significant offense to that. My choice of my favorite coasters has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with hype or advertising -- it entirely has to do with what I find to be the most fun. I have no problem with your idea of fun being different from my idea of fun -- that's why there are so many choices out there, so we can all be satisfied. But, to try and tell me that my favorites "aren't really good rides" is just insulting.

I really liked Silverwood when I went there in July. Timber Terror and Tremors are two of the best wooden coasters I've been on. With that said everyone has their own taste when it comes to coasters, so we should all respect that.

I've visited many different parks, and CP happens to have one of the best collections of coasters around. Yes, my list is dominated by CP, but its not ALL CP. CP rules all, but there are other good rides.
Remember tho, most of us like coasters.... and thats it. Screw experience, we thrill for a 1 hour wait to get a good thrill (My feelings, I COULD BE WRONG!! :)) I've enjoyed many smaller parks and I can't wait to visit more. Holiday World is #1 on my list to visit, and I cant wait.

Here's mine:
1. Shei-Kra (BuschGardens-Tampa Bay)
- easily beats the rest.
2. Incredible Hulk (Islands Of Adventure)
- gotta love that launched lift into a barrel roll
3. (tie) Montu (BuschGardens-Tampa Bay)
3. (tie) Alpengeist (Busch Gardens-Williamsburg)
- both excellent well-themed inverted coasters
5. Apollo's Chariot (BuschGardens-Williamsburg
- great air time on an ultra-smooth ride
Best of the rest:
Raptor (Cedar Point), Kraken (Sea World-Orlando), Dueling Dragons (Islands Of Adventure), X-Flight (Geauga Lake), Kumba (BuschGardens-Tampa Bay).
Note: I had to eliminate any wooden coasters from my list as I can no longer ride them; they make my brain ache too much.

That's not what I was saying. I was saying that there is so much more out there outside of the mega-hyped parks. Six Flags likes to plug their rides as awesome, when usually, they're just plopped down crap. They get people to visit their parks and their parks only because of all of the advertising. Take SFKK, for example! "Twisted Twins is extremely thrilling! One of the best coasters in the world!" I don't think so! I have a problem with companies limiting peoples opinions by hyping crappy rides as good ones. This creates a false sense of what a good ride and a bad ride is with coaster n00bs. Six Flags will hype an SLC as amazing, but in reality, they have a very bad reputation. Coaster n00bs don't know this though, so they'll go on a very crappy ride and think it's supposed to be good and so they won't like roller coasters.
Harpo
09-19-2005, 07:09 PM
Well, my honest, uncensored opinion of Six Flags would not be printable here, and, in some countries, could result in the tongue being removed by tying it to the tail of a wild leopard and throwing a piece of fresh meat down a hillside. Ouch. I'm not going there! :D
Anyway, I think that should show that I really don't buy into hype. I certainly understand hype. After all, who's going to visit a park that says, "Hey, our rides are junk, our midways are filthy, and we've got a bad attitude, but come visit us, anyway!" Any park and ride has to be good for me to say it's good. I have written quite a few complaint letters, with the most being to Six Flags, but with letters also going to Disney and Cedar Fair. (Cedar Fair has had the best responses, by far, which is part of the reason I have a high opinion of them. I was a bit surprised, but Disney's response to an issue I brought to their attention was remarkably disappointing. I really expected better from Disney.) When warranted, I've also sent letters of compliment, which have gone to Cedar Fair and Holiday World. However, I'm very tough to please, hence those letters are rare. Something extraordinary has to happen for me to send a letter of praise. So far, only Cedar Point, Knott's Berry Farm, and Holiday World have earned such letters for having times when, in my opinion, they went above and beyond the call of duty in creating a wonderful visit.

What were some of the complaints for Disney? And what was there answer?
Harpo
09-20-2005, 10:53 AM
The item I really complained about for Disney was that the hotel room was absolutely filthy. I refused to stay in the first room, it was so bad, so I was able to convince them to move me to another room. The second room was also dirty, but at least it didn't have the horrid odor of the first room, so I accepted it, although I still wasn't pleased. I had to go wiping off the toilet and the countertops, plus there was trash still in the trash cans when I first arrived at the room. On my second day, after returning from the park, there was trash in the toilet, which neither my girlfriend (now fiancee) nor I had put there, so it must have been done by the "cleaning" crew. Also, there were hairs on the sheets, so we had to brush them off before going to bed. It was at the All-Star Resorts, which are the budget resorts, so we didn't expect fancy, but we still expected clean. It was quite a battle on-site getting things straightened out. They even mucked up the package deal, where the park admission was included with the room, but, fortunately, I didn't take the first person's word for it that the tickets would be picked up at a park entrance, since that was wrong. The tickets were given at the hotel desk, which is what my confirmation said, but the first desk clerk wouldn't go along with that.
I don't recall the exact wording in the response, but it gave me the impression of saying something to the effect of, "Hey, we're Disney. Don't criticize us, because we know what we're doing." Although they called and left a message on my answering machine in response to my letter, they never did apologize. And, when I called back and left a message for the person who called me, indicating I'd like to talk about it some more, she never returned that call. Overall, it was most unimpressive. Next time, I'm more likely to stay off of the Disney property.
(I didn't even bother mentioning the misdirection I received -- when I was at EPCOT, I was trying to figure out how to get to Downtown Disney. I had a hard time finding someone to ask, but, once I did, he gave me incorrect directions on how to use the transportation system to get there, so it wound up taking me much longer than it should have.)

Wildcat is great. GCI came out with a bang, and they have only inproved. I hear Wildcat has roughened now though (I went on in '99, right after Great Bear was built). I really want to get back to Hershey at some point (probibly in a roadtrip with the rest of the PA parks).
