What a shame! SFAW may have been kept up bad, but it had some revolutionary coasters. Ultra Twister, XLR-8, SWAT, the first Sky-Swatter and the infamous Texas Cyclone. They didn't even try to sell it. What were they thinking? They are going demolish it. Well, I guess SFoT will get the Texas Cyclone or another Astroworld ride. I'm upset. It was a dump, but was a landmark in Houston and had some revolutionary rides.

They'd better do it fast because they are planning to demolish it.

WW: It was only appopriate I posted it because I'm from Houston and like Astroworld, other than the people who go there...trashy people.

It's always sad to see a park close down.:( Unfortunately, it may not be the last in the Six Flags chain. I do hope they find a home for the coasters, but I'm sure most of them will be scrapped. I do have good memories of Ultra Twister and Batman the Escape(aka Shockwave), since both operated at SFGrAdv when I was a kid.

Yup. This makes me hate SF so much though. But, the thing is, why can't they sell it? At least SFoT won't be sold and destroyed. It's the central SF park!

SFOT won't take the Cyclone. It will just end up like the rest of the great Bill Cobb woodies. Destroyed. Ultra Twister will just move on to another of many homes it has had over the years. XLR8. Who knows. Just another of the suspendeds down the drain. The rest of the rides will probibly be distributed among the rest of the SF parks. The ones not wanted will go to storage or, to the grave. Tis a sad day.

RIP Texas Cyclone.

Yes and Yes, but the coasters were purty good. I don't think so. I think they'll keep the Texas Cyclone because it's so famous, and SWAT will survive, because it's the first one of it's kind, and I guarantee XLR-8 will be destroyed because Suspendeds are so unpopular. Ultra-Twister will survive. Viper will go to a junkyard, and Batman will too. Serial Thriller might survive, because the Vekoma's are so popular.

Astroworld is in HORRIBLE condition, trash everywhere, rides break down all the time, before they repainted it the rides looked horrible and it seems to attract all the gangs. I swear the queue line for Serial Thriller you take your life in your own hands.

Resemblence?
Serial Thriller: Coaster
Serial Killer: Many Gang Members

Who said TC c an't be relocated? send it to SFA,after all they were the lucky recipients of the Giant from Paragon park some 20 years ago, thus proving a giant woodie can be successfully relocated.

Personally they can also send B:TE our way as well seeing as the B&M stand up SFA was gonna get got cancelled in 01 in favor of Batwing.

Although it might be a bit too late in the season for major ride relocations to be made in time for the 06 season however cuz construction planning & approval does take time you know, but we just might see a few relocated rides for next season.

I agree, I think SFA deserves one of the coasters. Hopefully, it will be Batman the Escape or Ultra Twister.;)

I am really sad to see this my home park go away forever. I usually go multiple times per year, and I even used to be an employee there. I am really going to miss going to the park and having fun for a day 20 minutes from my house, but now I am going to have to drive 5 Hours to get my rollercoaster fix. Some of the rides were classics, but some I would be happy to see leave (*Cough*XLR8*Cough*)

Personally I think the whole company of Six Flags is going under, I have heard they have been losing money for some number of years now. Hopefully next summer I can take my long awaited and planned vacation to Sandusky.

R.I.P. Six Flags Astroworld Houston.

(This is actually a bad time to close it with all the people in Houston from Katrina, that they would probably get a good supply of business for a little while longer.)

They will most likely sell the land, build more apartments for Houston, and in 5 years they will be ghetto just like the rest =)

It can be done, but when it comes down to it, its cheaper to just build a new one than move an exsisting woodie. SF doesn't care about their woodies, and it will probibly be torn down. Wild One (Giant @ Paragon) is just about the only woodie that SF takes care of. I think that the only light that the Cyclone will see is if someone private buys the park as a family park. Other than that, we can consider it gone. The woodies are just too expensive to move, and with SF going out of buisiness, they won't do it. Even if they were doing ok atm, they don't cae about wood. It's done. :(

Just rumor, but I understand Cedar Fair did consider purchasing AstroWorld, but bought Geauga Lake, instead.

After visiting AstroWorld, a Cedar Fair manager I know asked me what I thought of the park, and if I thought it would be a good acquisition for Cedar Fair. My opinion, based upon my knowledge of how much it cost to paint Raptor and Mantis, and the estimated price tag for painting Magnum, coupled with my experience with visiting parks, led me to believe that AstroWorld would have needed at least $30 million in maintenance to get the park close to Cedar Fair standards. As it turns out, that's about what they've spent so far on Geauga Lake, so my estimate probably wasn't far off the mark.

It could be that the price Six Flags was asking, coupled with the amount of maintenance that was needed and the parking situation, may have been enough to scare away Cedar Fair.

Interesting fact on TC,30 years ago SF was looking into buying the astroland cyclone & moving it to SFAW but built TC instead, thank god the coney classic didn't get relocated after all or it'd be on the hit list for the wrecking ball as a result of this decision by SFI &,as we all know a good woodie like that is a terrible thing to waste.

Astroworld is a great park. It's a shame to see it be ripped down. Something tells me the same fate will happen to SFNO:( .

I think most of the Coasters are ok as they were raised up, but most of the flats + buildings were destroyed.

Batman:The Ride probaly lived, but I think Mega Zeph might of made it's last runs. All flats are probaly toast, and some coaster's probaly rusted. I think that park is gone. Boy, SF is having some time right now aren't they? RCDB lits all SFNO coasters and SBNO, something says soon, it will say Operated.

I think I'm going to at least make a petition for them to save TC. That's all I care about cuz I know my favs such as SWAT and Batman and UltraTwister will survive.

Please sign this so we can at least tell Six Flags we appreciate the Texas Cyclone and don't want it to be destroyed-permanently! Please, it would be a shame for this coaster to be destroyed!

As far as I know, it's got every ride in the park showing... even Poison Ivy. It's a satellite pic, so you see not only the park, but the whole area surrounding the park.
