Yes, it's me again! And this time with news. Don't forget the date, SEPTEMBER 28th, SFGADV will announce a MONSTEROUS Record Breaking Wooden Coaster and a new kids section. Wait a minute, is it 2004? Did they say, record breaking coaster and a new kids section. Deja Vu to me. So yes for the 2nd year in a row, SFGADV WILL add a record breaking coaster and a new kid section. So, what are ur thoughts?

Yea. But I think it's good. U know what else is also (cough) Six Flags (cough). Placing 2 woodie right next to each other. The station is right next to Rolling Thunder's lift hill. Espically since were getting a 2007 hotel, we wont be seeing a coaster until 2008. Rumors are that it will be some kind of new Intamin Prototype, and there only one I know of at the time is the 4-D Ball Coaster.

But yeah, definently not any more Intamin for the park in the future.
B&M does have a 4-D version. And Japan is getting the latest S&S/Arrow Dynamic 4-D next year at Fuji - Q Highland. Supposed to run more reliable then X, and longer and more features. And for those of you who think "Arrow Dynamics is not anymore," well it is, just run and operated under the S&S name, so thats why I say S&S/Arrow Dynamics for those wondering.
PS - Kingka1 do you HAVE to type in all CAPS in your signature, its very annoying.

If SFI is purchased by another company then the gravy train of coasters for the spoiled parks just might come to an end & it'll be the coaster deprived parks that'll be recieving them so I wouldn't bet on anything,be it a hotel or a coaster happening in 07/08 at SFGRADV just yet.
Don't forget that SFAW has rides/coasters that WILL be relocated according to SFI's spokesperson in an article so it looks like a few other parks might be looking at coasters & other rides for 06 as well.

LOL,that's what alot of the SFGRADV or SFMM guys think....of course the parks that already planned their coasters(SFMM,SFGRADV,SFOG)are out of the running, but of course others like SFA,SFSTL,SFFT,SFOT or SFDL might be lucky enough to score a new (to them) coaster courtesy of SFAW's closure.
If you look at it only those five parks havn't gotten any coasters since SFA in 01,SFSTL,in 00,SFFT in 00,SFOT in 01 & SFDL in 99....of those 5 parks I doubt SFFT would recieve anything from nearby SFAW but it's always a possibility.

Ha! Not they already have enough, try SFA needs some new coasters, and soon. Supposedly SFA is getting three installations this year. But I highly doubt this will happen. But it is one of the more beliveable of the rumors along with more water park expansion.
AND
Don't be so sure that SFAW is going to close, while its in paper up till now, Cedar Fair is looking to get a southern park on there hands.
Harpo
09-23-2005, 04:29 PM
Cedar Fair does want to get a southern park, but I know they're also a bit nervous about buying another Six Flags park, considering the terrible condition they found Geauga Lake to be in. It really depends on what kind of bargain they could get for the park. If the expected land value at AstroWorld holds true, then Six Flags might get more for the land by breaking it up than by selling to Cedar Fair.
Just my opinion, but when I visited AstroWorld in 2003, I thought the coasters were in terrible condition. If properly fixed up, I think they still could have a lot of fun seasons left in them, but I expect it would be expensive to get them to that proper condition. Such a factor could lead to many of the coasters being scrapped rather than moved. It'd be very unfortunate, but, clearly, economics are guiding Six Flags' decisions regarding AstroWorld.
I certainly may have read it wrong, but the press release regarding the closing made me think that any anticipated equipment moves would be to nearby Splashtown. Since Splashtown is a water park, I wouldn't really expect coasters to be moved there, although Diablo Falls would seem to be a good fit for a water park, as well as items in the Waterworld section of the park.
Since it is quite new, I'd be surprised if they didn't move Swat to another park, but it's possible they'll just put it (and other rides) up for sale for any other company that wants to buy them. It all depends on if Six Flags thinks it would be cost-effective to move the rides. With the company's significant financial problems, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them sell what they can, and scrap the rest for spare parts.

Nope SFA can't install more than one coaster at a time(stupid county ordinance) so if they were to recieve any of SFAW's coasters it's only be one.
Now I have heard rumors myself while talking to employees of a possible HH expansion for 06(I hope that's not true) because I've had enough water rides for now.....wouldn't mind taking dungeon drop if only SFA's height restrictions set by the county could be changed.

Yes that's true, but they can get a special permit to build more then one. Over on Coasterbuzz, we looked it up on the Prince George County Construction (Some site alloing all the construction in PGC) And it said they had a permit to install 2 coasters last year, but both companys never complied and the deal was never made. And also they were expanding the Waterpark, thats another reason while the deal was lost. If they really want to build more then one coaster in a season, they can, they just have to do a **** load of papers to get the permits.

Okinawaboy:did you get the link to the PG county zoning board from an old link on coasterbuzz by searching the archives?
If so then you'd notice that the permits given were for Batwing to be added in 2001 & the stand up coaster that was originally planned (attraction #37 on that list) had been cancelled as a result.
As far as I know there've been no real planning board requests for any major rides since then....PBR (built in 03) was already approved as early as 1999 & the two slides in hurricane harbor for some reason didn't require any permits, believe me if SFI had plans to add a new coaster at SFA they'd try their hardest to get it approved & wouldn't even enter a contract with a designer til they were sure that they wanted the park to get the ride.
But as we all know the only SF parks that are getting coasters anymore seem to be SFMM,SFGRADV & SFGRAM,hopefully that'll change when & if they find a new buyer for SFI & kick Burke & CO. out of office.

Be careful of what you wish for... there are thoughts that a buyer will close more parks to sell off to developers. According to rumors, even Magic Mountain is being considered as a park to be closed and sold off in pieces. Any parks sitting on prime real estate are good candidates to be closed and destroyed. That list could easily include Magic Mountain, Elitch Gardens, Great America, SFoT, and SFoG, all of which may be sitting on the most expensive real estate in the Six Flags chain. (Since SFoT and SFoG are not wholly owned by Six Flags, they have the best chance of being spared, for the time being.)
That's not to say that a new owner WILL take such an action, but, in order to significantly reduce the overwhelming Six Flags debt, it is fairly likely that more parks on prime real estate will be closed and sold to developers.

They won't close MM any time soon, they are adding a new coaster this year. Along with SFGAv. It's not happening. If all Six Flags Parks were to go, SFGAm, SFGAv, and SFMM would all stay.

Under current management, if there wasn't a lot of boat rocking being done by Dan Snyder, I'd agree with you on that. However, the company currently is staring at about $2.6 billion in debt (long and short term), they've been losing money for years, Snyder is trying for a takeover, and the company is now willing to be sold, but doesn't want to be sold to Snyder.
Any buyer is going to have to try to get rid of that huge debt load in order to keep the company afloat. To avoid a takeover, current management may be shaken up enough right now to try and significantly cut that debt before a sale occurs. In either case, selling off the smaller parks is not going to have enough impact on that debt.
Just as an example, Six Flags Worlds of Adventure was a rather large park. Including the park, hotel, and campground, they sold the whole 600+ acres to Cedar Fair for just $145 million. Most of the parks are a fraction of the size, and don't have hotels and campgrounds, so they're not likely to get anywhere near that much money (and Six Flags took a significant loss on that sale, as they paid a lot more for the property).
Six Flags can try to sell to other park operators, but there aren't many that can afford to buy a lot of properties. The other option is to close parks and sell off the land, but that's only going to help in areas where the land is very valuable, and where Six Flags owns the land. For example, they're leasing Six Flags New Orleans, so, even if the park manages to reopen, they can't sell that land, since they don't own it. (I believe the agreement also forces them to keep investing in that park.) Same problem for Kentucky Kingdom. Many of the parks are far enough out of town that demolition and selling the land wouldn't bring in enough money. So, financially, that only leaves a few parks that are on prime real estate, where the money could be gained rather quickly. The current power struggle, with probable new ownership, may result in the need for a quick inflow of money, and that'll mean selling off expensive land, which could mean closing the biggest parks since they are on the most valuable land.
That doesn't mean it WILL happen, but, at present, there's a lot of uncertainty surrounding Six Flags -- no park is safe from sale/closure possibilities. Remember, the work for next year's coasters began before all this turmoil with Dan Snyder started -- new ownership/management may have a different idea about what to do with the parks, and where they can extract the most money through whatever means available.

It's a sad situation.:( Obviously, SF has gone with quantity over quality and they are paying the price. Harpo is right, selling off the small parks won't have alot of impact on the debt right now. But, parks like SFGr.Adv. and SFGr.Am. are money makers and selling them would hurt future earnings, if there is any future. I think selling off the dead weight and keeping the profitable parks would be the best. Then they can slowly chip away at their debt. Either way it will effect many of the parks.:( Anyway, that's just my 2 cents.
SFA PKD Fan
09-26-2005, 07:35 PM
And of course which parks are the profitable ones? the ones that get new rides on a fair & consistant basis.
Now what I don't get is why Burke is so eager to keep Snyder from buying yet is willing to put the chain up for sale?Burke & Co could give in to Snyder's bid to oust them & personally be rid of any further responsibility for a failing company.....a company that Burke's mismanagement put into a failing situation to begin with.

What ride were you working at Okinawaboy? I knew someone on CB who ran KC last season(best damn op on it too!) but havn't really seen too many enthusiasts there lately.
Ohh wait if you're 14 I doubt they'd put you on any ride operations becasue you gotta be 18 minimum I believe to operate or be on load/unload teams for most of SFA's rides.
Now that SFGRADV has gotten what? their 3rd coaster in a row since 03 (S:UF) corporate would do much better if they shared the wealth by giving parks such as SFA just one lousy coaster, the park has potential & room to expand(they can fit all of CP in there & still have room to spare) so they need to get on the ball because I can't take going one more season without a new coaster there.
I swear if SFA gets one more water ride/waterpark expansion I certainly won't get a pass for 06.....guess I'd have to settle for just one trip to PKD for the annual run in july.....at least they're adding IJ:ST for the upcoming season,SR & Roller soaker didn't seem to scare SFA one bit into adding a much needed coaster so I doubt IJ:ST will do anything either to make that happen.

I also looked on the SFA home page & it seems that halloween lights/haunted hayride isn't being done this year during FF,being a former SFA employee you'd know that the haunted hayride went from superman's lift approach, around by Batwing/python & up the superman service road....seems like something might be going on back there but I've had these suspicions before only to be sadly proven wrong.

Okay. I just watched the El Toro video. COMPLETE VOYAGE RIP-OFF! Six Flags just had to be a b**** and beat the height and drop angle! Think about it! Just a few months after The Voyage is announced, SF makes there coaster taller and faster and steeper. They even have extreme banked turns! The ride just looks like any other wooden coaster. It's just another case of Six Flags hyping their rides as "Da Best," but always falling short.

^How is this a Voyage rip-off? This coaster has been in the works before a single support was put up for KingdaKa over a year ago. Any elements that are being used for El Toro has been used for Balder and Colossos. Those banked turns and steep drop are elements of Balder and the height and first half of the ride is from Colossos.

How can you deny Texas Giant, Titan, Shockwave, SFoT's upkeep, friendly staff, and ride maintenance their chances to shine?
P.S. And You'll Enjoy S.W.A.T from Astroworld, although they should repaint it or something, because it has a totally different feeling then a military theme, it's colors are more mellow, it should be green, to go with the military theme.
Your being really imature.

Hey,
Intamin NOT wanting to go over 200ft? crap! its just another 20 ft for el torro and colossos only needs like another 4 to reach the magical 200...
And El Torro a rip off? I´m sorry, but this ride is just a perfect example of the mix of all the new woodies around. We have insane airtime and steep drops like on colossos and balder with twists, turns, and helixes showing what all the new twisters pull off. Its a great example for an awesome layout. And after the lack of really "creatives" layouts in the past few years at GAdv. (SUF, KK), this is a masterpiece.
And how can people even think about comparing it to SoB? This thing is gonna rock you, and not by shaking your body like a cocktail, its gonna blow your mind away by its smoothness and still insane forces. If its anything like Colossos and Balder you guys can s#it your pants because u are so freakin lucky.
The problem I see for Gadv, though is the lack of flat rides. El torro will be around 20.000.000$ (seeing colossos was 25.000.000€). No doubt they needed a new woodie soon seeing in which condition rolling thunder is in, but for that money they could have easily added a smaller woodielike ablder and some nice flats too.
I think saying its the second tallest and second fastest in american (3rd in the world) its not THAT special. Okay, 78°, but come on i´d be excited if we reached like anything close to 90°. The ride will be good, but the hype about the records is just another media ad but seriously nothing special anymore these days. If parks really wanted and were willing to spend loads of money to they could easily shatter those 180ft with a woodie twice that big.
And ow, BTW, a cable lift neither is necessary nor possible. The calbe lift would have to start out of the station and Colossos shows us that a the new gen chain lifts do pretty good wirk. Colossos makes it up those 190ft in around 15-20 seconds. But I am almost willing to confirm that the ride has linear brakes, because it will still be very fast entering the brakes, and to secure a smooth slowdown these are almost essential.

sorry.. incorrect info prev on el-toro.. all prev mentioned is correct except lift height is 188ft height not 181.
current records are second tallest and fastest in america, third in the world and is the steepest woodie drop in the world at 76 deg
here is a link to the info site...

On MarcNY's post...
I don't look at it quite the same way. I heard that son of beast, americas tallest and fastest is a real bruiser, just look at some of the reviews & you'll find most rated it just average due to a punishing ride in all except for the loop. I realize that if people want a 215ft wooden drop, they have to expect a hard ride but what i am saying that it doesn't necessarily have to be the tallest fastest or steepest to be the best. Son of beast is definately a must ride though and one day I want to ride it. Unlike steel coasters, the higher & faster a woodie gets, often the vibration just climbs as well & I think SFGA wanted to take the best of what Son Of Beast had to offer in the room they had to offer it. Maybe Intamin & SFGA felt that they wanted to make a monstrous record breaking coaster while at the same time, just taking a little edge off both the speed and drop. Just a thought.
btw, did anyone hear they were building a hotel as well?
Yesss... El Toro should rock the northeast in 2006 :)

Record and claims:
Ranks as the second tallest and fastest wooden coaster in the U.S. with the second longest drop. El Toro will be the third tallest and fastest in the world. This coaster breaks the world record for steepest wooden coaster drop at 76 degrees.
