I am I SFGA pass holder and I recently got this e-mail pretty cool:P

El Toro will challenge the most daring thrill seekers, while third children’s area will provide maximum family fun!

In 2006, thrill seekers at the World’s largest regional theme park will challenge El Toro, an enormous, new wooden roller coaster under construction at Six Flags Great Adventure. The thrill ride, which incorporates the most daring features of the world’s best wooden roller coasters combined with the smooth speed of a steel coaster, will be the star of a vibrant, newly-themed area of the park, Plaza del Carnaval. Just around the corner, families with young children will explore exciting, pint-sized adventures in the all-new Bugs Bunny™ National Park kids’ area, featuring new rides and attractions designed just for them. Both new areas, including monstrous El Toro, are set to open next season.

“Classic design meets state-of-the-art thrills with our spectacular, new wooden roller coaster,” said Rick McCurley, the park’s vice president and general manager. “As part of our multi-year expansion to a family destination, this massive coaster adventure will anchor a colorful, newly-themed area evoking the lively energy of Spanish-speaking regions of the world.”

El Toro’s unique design, inspired by the agility and strength of the brave Matadors, features a hybrid design including a classic “out and back” track with four fast-charging drops, multiple highly-banked turns and a beastly “twister” finale. El Toro will also deliver nine “airtime” opportunities, giving riders the highly-sought thrill ride sensation of weightlessness.

At 181 feet tall, reaching 70 mph, El Toro will rank among the tallest and fastest wooden roller coasters in the world. Its 4,400 feet of mountainous track includes records for second tallest, fastest and longest drop of all wooden coasters in America and features the world’s steepest drop on a wooden roller coaster, 76 white-knuckled degrees.

I actually think that this is going to be...the ugliest coaster in ze world! I mean a drop almost as steep as Millenium Force? Now thats just crazy, and stupid! I saw some pictures of it and it doesn't look all that great. But that's just me!

This is gonna be hot. Dissapointed though it didn't break height and speed records, but it looks good enough! It seems this year might be the year of the woodies (Voyage,El Toro) The only obvious good one in the US is Goliath (which really dosen't impress me, it's nothing to Nitro)

I'm sure people say the same about Balder, then they ride it, and suddenly it doesn't look quite as bad.;) :D I'm not trying to compare the two coaster, just saying never judge a book by its cover.:)

I'll be to Holiday World first, just because its in Indiana and im in NW Ohio (Right by CP :)), but this might just make me want to go to a *cring* Six Flags *cring* park.

Don't forget this is already the year of three U.S. woodies.

Oh, and how is Goliath the only impressing steel? We still have Patriot, The X-car coaster @ Magic Springs, WDW's Expedition Everest, and SFMM's mystery flyer *cough*Tatsu*cough*. Well at least I think they are interesting.:p

Apparently, you haven't been to many parks. I'm sure they're great, but they've never scored high with enthusiasts.

Kad- All there is is just the track in the parking lot area where our 2007 hotel will be going once El Toro is finsished. The only on site stuff is rebar and footers. I salate Late March Opening!

Wodden Warrior- I agree on your count. Sure there are still woodies being built, but their reaching about 150 feet. Good point.

smallprint- Grand National is a great ride.

snoosnoo- . Beast, best woodie evur.

flyodd- sorry i'm acting like it's my thread, but when it comes to SFGADV, i know it.

Late March opening? The park hasn't even started putting up the structure. If they were so late with Ka, im sure they won't open the coaster with the park.

I think Texas Giant is the best woodie.

That's because SFoT is your home park and you've probably never been to any other parks so you automatically think that you park is the best. I got news for ya' Texas Giant has been voted one of the roughest coasters in America, along with Son of Beast and Mean Streak.

I just of now think Beast is best because the only local woodie for me is Rolling Thunder and J2.

Well Kingda Ka's structure didn't completly start until haloween, some of the footers and some supports have been put in, and progress will resume quicker with the 4 days the park has to do work. Hopefully it will go up as fast as Voyage, man that thing is goingup fast!

Hmmm, I don't think Son of Beast and Mean Streak should be mentioned in the same sentence when talking about roughness. It'd be like comparing the Atlantic Ocean to Lake Superior -- they're both big, but Lake Superior is just a puddle compared to the Atlantic Ocean. Son of Beast and Mean Streak are both rough, but Son of Beast makes Mean Streak look tame.

Personally, I think Mean Streak's roughness is overrated. I've been on quite a few wood coasters that I think are rougher. They'd include such rides as The Villain, Rattler, the now-gone Hercules (which was closing in on Son of Beast's roughness, but wasn't quite there!), The Mighty Canadian Minebuster (getting much worse every year), and Hurricane Category 5.

Ones that are close to Mean Streak include Thunderbolt, Skyliner (Lakemont Park), Wild Beast (getting worse every year), Texas Giant, and Tremors.

Formerly rougher, but now fixed, would be Raging Wolf Bobs. Far better now that it's undergone a major refurbishment.

Keep in mind, that list is entirely working from memory of my opinions of the roughness of the coasters the last time I rode them. I should also state that I really like some of those, even though they are rough.

I've also been on some steel coasters that I think are rougher than Mean Streak, but I'm not going to go into that list now.
