A couple years ago there was a debate as to whether or not the Active Sensors improved the auto-aim (as vaguely stated in the game's encyclopedia.) Was this question ever ironed out?
Near as I can tell, it's still ambigious. I MIGHT be getting a few extra hits with PBCs at 7.0m... but I'd like to know for sure since the game code is out there now.

Game code? Out? If you have found the source, I would really, really like to have a copy.

If EoC had gone open source...wouldn't we have heard about it? And first?
It doesn't sound like something that has happened, given the dissolution of PS and the like. It wouldn't surprise me too much to see it happen in the (near?) future.

My mistake. I dont follow current events much anymore, I just play games and do the fam thing.
I'd thought since there was some sort of download enabling scripting/mods/pog/whatever that someone could peek at the active sensor thing and have the answer.
So again, has anyone ever received a definite answer on the issue? I'd like to know since this weekend is all the playing time I can get.

From what I can remember passive sensors allow you to detect ships, active sensors will identify them.

From a logical standpoint, it wouldn't matter if you were in passive/EMCON, since the missile itself is definitely using active sensors. Your computer immediately knows when a missile has been launched at you, and can give you very exact time-to-impact.
From a gameplay standpoint, I don't remember it making any difference. Active sensors, far as I know, just identifies contacts at long range (100km+). Where with just passive you get question marks.
Tangent: anybody thought about an emissions-scanning missile? Long range and powerful, undetectable until it gets quite close to the target. But more easily spoofed by ECM. Or a missile that only goes Active once it gets within a certain range. Something to consider for Iwar3. :sulk:
