According to the blog, CP will announce their new ride tommorow. It is appearent that something in the back of the resort parking lot (looks like the top of a S&S Screamin Swing) is under a blue tarp. What are your thoughts?

It's gonna be a swing. The only real interesting thing about this announcement will be the name.

They're also taking out White Water Landing. Of course, we knew that already.

I think the announcement was about the demise of White Water Landing, which is probably one of the worst kept secrets in Cedar Point's history! Since the cave was torn down a couple of years ago, it was obvious that White Water Landing's days were numbered. (Well, OK, Power Tower may have been THE worst kept secret -- the ride was almost completed before an announcement was made about it!)
Unless there's a new flume ride in the works, it'll be very odd to not have a water flume at Cedar Point. They used to have two: Mill Race and Shoot The Rapids. Shoot The Rapids was a double-dropping flume ride that was torn down to make way for White Water Landing. (I've not seen another flume like Shoot The Rapids in any of the 179 parks I've visited.) Mill Race was torn down to make way for Raptor. As I understand it, Mill Race was the 3rd "modern" water flume ever built.

Well we know Cedar Point is with announcements. TTD was announced on Jan.9, the ride was completed weeks ago, and it was clearly bigger than MF or any other ride in the park.

I bet it will be the tallest and fastest rotating resturant.

Would that be the same restaurant that's supposed to have the steepest escalators and the longest salad bar?

No announcement, it was just the official statement that theyr removing WWL.

Mill Race rocked, or the old-timey name Nestle' Presents Mill Race, which featured part of it's odd hill structure from going over the monorail. RIP Mill Race.

Cedar Point knows what they are doing, so don't freak out too much that the log flume is gone. Ideally, I would like to see a more modern Shoot-the-Rapids type ride, along with a mid-sized watercoaster.
They have enough room for all that, just look at this link: http://www.atlanticrail.com/images/cp_overall.jpg
The red area is where WWL resides now, and unused land around it, yellow is where the construction markers have been popping up, and green is the surrounding midway. That's plenty enough for both of those rides, especially if they intertwine, considering Mantis itself could fit in the red area alone.
But if Cedar Point wants anymore families coming in, they will build some sort of mid-sized ride the whole family can go on together. That's what WWL was for before.
I also think it's pretty much obvious that the Screamin' Swing is going where DD is now, because there is just too much room back in Frontiertown to waste on just a SS.
But hey, that's just my opinion.

I agree Lewis. Unless they're building a 3000 foot long Screamin Swing, it's just stupid. The Screamin Swing takes up less room than DD. I saw one at Dorney Park, small, but wicked fast.

I got an idea. How about building a zoo in the WWL area? It's still a very wooded area, so the theming could be great.
Another flume-type ride would be fine with me. As for a water coaster, it would probably be more at home in Soak City.
I dunno, but you can't remove one of the most popular family rides in the park and replace it with a thrill ride. That wouldn't make sense to me.
And as for that Screamin Swing sitting in the SC parking lot, I don't think it's going on DD's footprints. If I'm not mistaken, CP intends to continue operationg DD next year if Harpo doesn't buy it. :p

So now I have to ride WWL in the cold or never ride it again....thanks CP. Whatever they put it better be awesome, and by awesome I mena not breakdown when a leafs blows by. Also it better not be a spin and go puke ride.I think I am going to handcuff myself to WWL on closing day in protest. hey Harpo, can I barrow your fuzzy cuffs, again? :p
Harpo

Oh, so sorry... the fuzzy cuffs have been loaned to my fiancee's parents. I decided it was best to avoid asking any questions.
Haven't seen any report yet indicating that Demon Drop has been sold. Cedar Point stated that they'd keep operating it if they don't find a buyer, and my fiancee and I haven't yet figured out where we'd put it (won't fit in the family room -- drat), so they can't count on having that space for new development.

I've suspected for awhile that they're doing something other than a Screaming Swing. My personal guess is some sort of small terrain coaster that'll follow the footprint of WWL. They hinted early on in the year that there was another coaster on the way this year, and I do believe them. After all, they need to keep up with SFMM.

It looks like CF will be owning half of the dieing company anyway, so wheres ur logic?

Remember, CF is investigating buying more SF parks, but that does not mean they will buy more of them. They definitely found Geauga Lake to be in far worse condition than they expected, so they're a bit uneasy about buying other SF properties. It all depends on if they'll get a sufficiently good deal to allow them to dump lots of money into repair and still turn a profit.

We went to Geauga Lake this year and quite frankly, I was saddened to see how Six Flags screwed up our little home town park. Awful! CF has said that fianances were way down in both parks this year but Geauga Lake took a huge hit. The day we went we didn't wait in line for any ride longer than 15 or 20 minutes. Most (and all we rode were coasters) we got in line and got right on. Some of the coasters (Like the Double Loop) were making awful noises. It was squealing something awful. It just makes me sad. Everything seemed pretty run down and...well...boring! There aren't many slow, family-style rides left there.
We haven't been to Cedar Point since the year that TTD was opened. I really hate to see White Water Landing gone :0( One of my favorites. Could anyone see CF being a park of just coasters??
Millineum Force is my favorite. I could ride it all day!
My husband and I really love them, but I think we're getting too old!!

So has there been any offical word on a new coaster or plans or anything besides that they are removing WWL which sucks. Sucks that it is getting removed, WWL doesn't suck.

I still think Demon Drop is gone. You don't just announce a ride MIGHT me taken down. Besides, there has to be some Asian park that'll want it (they always buy that sorta stuff).
I wouldn't plan on a zoo going back there either. For one, there is not that much room for a zoo. Second, CF took SeaWorld out of GL because they don't wanna do animals. Why would they put animals in?
I'm still hoping for my water coaster though. I'm hoping they're not just a fad like the standups, though.
The top piece is pretty obviously the top of the Screamin' Swing, so anybody who is still denying the SS coming here should probably stop talking now.
The wood is most likely to replace the bad wood on CCMR, and the rebar rods are for the SS footers: Valleyfair! Construction (http://www.valleyfair.com/news/the_scoop/construction_gallery.cfm)

I know what it comming to cedar point! it's a woodie near the milenium force! there is also proably going to be a S&S screaming swing. do you want proof of a woodie at CP? i will give you a quote from the website.
Then, there was another “special” delivery.
We’ll preface the photo by asking this:
How much wood…
Would a woodchuck chuck…
If a woodchuck could chuck…
Wood.
Yes. Wood. Lots of it. And possibly more on the way.
And right next to the “something big and blue!”
Makes ya wonder, doesn’t it?
This rocks!
and there is a photo of proof. go to this website.

The zoo idea was just wishful thinking on my part. I guess it would be quite a chore for little tykes and their grandparents to get all the way back to Frontier Town to visit a zoo, unless they built a new entrance back there... At any rate, Cedar Fair has admitted that they underestimated the draw of the animals at SeaWorld, so I just thought opening a zoo at CP might be a reaction to that...

Since when does wood = wooden coaster? I mean seriously, it's not like wood could be used for anything else, like say, a restaraunt or something like that.
I can assure you, it's not for a wooden coaster.

Lets see "Six Flags" beat that!

The wood could be for the new pier that will extend 900 feet into Lake Erie and will host the worlds longest boardwalk coaster:eek:  Or it could be for benches! Who knows:weird:

Wouldn't making the worlds largest tree out of cut up wood defeat the purpose?? :)
