Can an unassigned agent on internal security defend against foreign agents from another specialty? i.e., can a diplomatic agent defend against an enemy social agent?

sorry, meant to post that last message as a reply in the newbie thread.

Yes, any agent assigned to internal security within your empire slightly increases the chances of capturing/killing enemy agents attempting to infiltrate it, regardless of their own speciality (that's only used for determining what missions they perform inside other empires). IIRC, every 5 (or is it 10? I can't remember which) spies you have on defense is equivalent to +1 level of security from your current Oppressometer setting. If you're just recruiting spies for defensive work, train the fastest and cheapest to build.

iirc, one type of spy is the fastest, but another is the cheapest? and one of these is Political, which is just lame to send on missions anyway.

also, it is worth noting that having Dangerous Cunning increases spy luck, which makes them live longer, resulting in a larger pool of Internal Security agents (assuming you don't send them all out to get killed).

oh, and i only send spies out when their luck runs below 10, and if they are strong (>8) in both Cloak and Dagger. otherwise, i just keep them home.

pedxing, I disagree with you here. What do Political spies do ? They bump off leaders. Which hurts you more, having a spy blow up a building, which you probably rebuild next turn, or having a spy knock off a leader who is providing you with a 20 % boost in some thing or other you want ?

true, but i always figure that AI players usually have about as many surviving Leaders as i do, which is often none.

which my gives spy nothing to do. :sour:

it's the one-trick-pony aspect of Political spys that i don't like.

(hmm, maybe they do more with the Spy Missions patch?)
