David Perry (President of Shiny Entertainment) presented us new information about the Path of Neo. I will try to make a good summary with my bad English:
The first point of the presentation was about “Enter the Matrix”. It was sold about 6’000’000 times and made a turnover of more than 250’000’000.00 Dollars. In cause of this success it was sure that it will be an new game with Matrix. But David Perry was discontented with the game. He knows about the criticism and he agree.
Shiny got all four licences of the Matrix and Animatrix.
The game starts at the Lobby-scene. The game automatic take a difficulty level for you. You can’t choose one. There come more and more cop’s in attack-waves. It depend on the time how long you survive which difficulty level the game choose.
The first real level is at the office where you start as “Thomas Anderson” with no skills or something. You got the mobile phone (like at the movie) and you start. Morpheus tell you where you have to go and how long you have to stay. At the same time this is a Tutorial. Every time you have to wait, Morpheus tell you how to handle the controls. At this Level you can make you first decision. Make it like in the Movie, and doesn’t dare to climb outside of the skyscraper. Or follow the directives of Morpheus. If you go forward the game remember on “Prince of Persia” (the new one!). You have to do some cool acrobatics and “normal” jumps. This Level is a mix between a „Jump n’ Run“ and a „Creep-Level“. The Level should show you how weak and un-known he is.
After that you have the opportunity to play the shortest game ever, take the Blue Pill and the game is over…
Another Scene is the fight between Morpheus and Neo at the Training “Dojo”. There you can see the possibility to fight with many weapons like daggers, swords, cudgels (truncheon), hammer (gavel), axe…
After you beat him up you came into a jump an run level to persecute Morpheus which also remembers on the “Persian noble”. There you learn how to walk on walls and jump over long distance.
A very nice gimmick is that you can break the game and look at the Pause-Menu the "Move-List". Here you will not only just see how to press the controls of all moves you learned but also a little video how it looks like for every move.
After this David Perry showed us the garden scene with many Smiths, not 800, not 1200, with 1500 Smith’s. He told us that this Level you can play how long you want. You can beat up all 1500 Smith’s if you want, but this will last at least a day… The Level you finish if you break down a house between you and the smiths with some smiths. At this Level you will see the perfect 360 degree control which allows you to fight in all directions simultaneously. For the realistic physic PoN use Havok 2. But they don’t went the “normal” way and buy just a licence. The guys from Havok came there and re-script the Havok engine special for the Path of Neo. It’s like a purpose-built.
Everyone who saw the trilogy will have many many Deja-Vu's because all Levels are very detailed copied of the Movies also the clothes and skins etc.
It is a Linear Game, but the most levels you can handel on more than one way (think just on the Office-Level at the beginning) At the Menu you can choose all levels (which you have played before). There are about 50 levels to play. The creep, jump n’ run, and fighting cares very well for diversification.
The game shows you sometimes which button you should press for the best move and in cause of this cool move you can make new more cool moves and so on…. It is a little bit like “God of War”. Path of Neo was prestented on the PS2. I never saw before so cool light-effects on a PS2. The Controll of the PS2 looks like this:
Left Analog-Stick: Neo’s directions (move)
Right Analog Stick: The free-roaming camera
The circle and triangle are for the kicks and punches, the square (quadrat) for jumps and the [X] for “little fly’s”. The two rights “shoulder”-buttons are for the weapon-use and the left “shoulder” button for the bullet time.
The Bullet time is something that you must earn with fights, David Perry loves Bullet Time, he use it ALWAYS. Everything looks more real, more "Wooow". You also can see very detailed all moves and that was the reason why there are many many many x-tra special moves for Bullet Time.
The Guy's of Atari are testing the PC controlling now, its the second version. It must feel very good and nevertheless you should have the opportunity to use a Gamepad. The game has no multiplayer but on the question what he (David Perry) think of an Online Version he answered:
"The game has many different fight-styles with a huge kombination opportunity (poles, swords, pistols, fistfight, footfight, Combos...). I think, if we will go ever online, it would be a lot fun, to develop a fullversion, where the different characters fight against each others. I have always ask myself, who would win the fight if Trinity fight against Niobe."
The game is made with the Wachowski brothers (Andy and Larry) and they made a Directors Cut of the Matrix movies, that mean an alternative end. (maybe you just die… lol). They also turn up (emerge, surface) as advisors in the game!!! There will be no new video material but many scene of the original movies and the Animatrix to put everything together.
After the presentation he got very less time but he answered our e-Mail Interview very comprehensive. About the question what the Animatrix bring on he answered:
There are some “Red Pill Levels” where you bring together the Animatrix and Neo for backround information.
Name of Red Pill Levels are:
"Skulls Lamet", "The Librarian", "The Healer", "The Security Guard" etc.
Also there will be a very many visual effects like a Level in Black/White (the samurai training level, there you learn to handle samurai-sword), a level is a dream, another level got no physik cause you play the wrong way around , also a "Metal gear Neo" style, a level in a cinema with matrix movie and the movie is projected on the body of everyone who goes through the projection, a fight against a blind man in a forest…
How long you will need to play the hole game through it depend on you. The Game is really made for Matrix Fans, so you need to understand the rules how a Agent works. So, if you defeat a Agent who is stands next to a police guy (or a civilian) the Agent will take his body (like in the movies). But if you first kill the Cop and after that the Agent (and the Agent got no "new" Body to overtake) you don’t need fight the Agent 2 times. So you need for the Game from 12 till 20 hours for a complete walkthrough.
There is also a Mini-RPG-System inside, so you can form the one on your way…
I hope it was a good Article and sorry for my bad English, I have done my best
If is any question, just ask.
