View Full Version : Gas Stations in D4?

I know plenty of other people have thought of this idea, I just don't know why it hasn't been implimented in all the popular free-roaming titles. It was implimented in Mafia, although not used very much just there for the novelty of it. It would add an interesting level to the game, steal a car with no gas and you run out and possibly get caught.

Although, the programmers would have to be specific about the cars going in and out of the gas stations. Sometimes they go half-ass and then you'd have cars pulling in with full tanks or cars leaving the gas station with less than a half tank or something. It'd be nice if you stole a car pulling into a gas station it be low on gas. It'd also be neat to see cars with spare tires (mentioned in one of the other threads) on them randomly. Subtle things like that make a game great.

They need the gas. BEcuase that would be fun and your chasing a guy and he runs iut of gas. So you can just smash the no-moving car but that could happen to you.

Right, your car could run out of gas and stop. (By the way, there was a mod for Vice City that added gas stations, and the engine would die if you run dry. But it was just a mod, and would have been nice for the real thing.)

Also, what if your car doesn't always start in a millisecond? Like if it takes a bit for the engine to turn over (especially on a cold New York day that D:PL will probably showcase). Or what if it occaisionally doesn't start at all? Like if the battery's dead or something. Then you'd have to go jack a new one -- and then what if people didn't always leave their doors unlocked with the keys on the dash? And if hotwiring took time? (Wait, did they have car alarms in 1978?)

Car Alarms were first introduced in the 1970s so I'm sure that they did have car alarms back then.

All very good ideas.

It would also be nice if they took a few more pointers from the game Mafia. In Mafia, when you are being chased by the police (in a car) if you go into a secluded area and get out of your car then run away, you'll lose the police. The game was based in the late 20's so there weren't helicopters with thermal imaging or anything, but that would be neat for Driver. Also, if you were on foot and got into a car and no police were around to see you then you could lose them that way. Or, you could avoid the police all together by killing the police officer that saw you commit the crime before he got to a payphone to call it in. :D I know the calling it in idea wouldn't work exactly, since the police carry radios now... but some of these ideas would work very well I believe.

Yes you're right about that PsychoMantis and I like the calling it in idea too. Also the police shouldn't go after you right after you've done something wrong, but instead it should take some time for tons of cops to get in their cars and start going after you. That would make the game less frustrating and the player wouldn't have such a hard time getting away from the cops.

Good ideas. Has anyone played the Splinter Cell games? Anyway, in those games you have to "pick locks" to open locked doors. If they incorporated a similar process for hotwiring cars, that would be cool.

I would like it if the cars didn't start up automatically too, it takes time to hotwire it. Also, it would be cool if when you stole a car with people in it the took they keys out and ran.

I've played all three of the games and that sure would be a good idea for getting into cars.

Gas is only cool if you can siphon it from other cars and use it to light stuff on fire.

Actually it would be cool for cars and if you could cause explosions with the oiltanks. Stuff like that. I wish and hope that they come up with something like that.

I wouldn't mind gas stations, its not like your cars last that long anyway, and if gas is necesarry, we should also see people pushing cars to the gas station occasionally.

Another cool thing was, if you could blow the engine (which would suck but would look cool) I'd love the hood to pop up and loads of white smoke coming out of the engine, eventually the car catches on fire much like the first Getaway (never played 2), and the fire spreads through the whole thing.

But blowing up cars is also cool, they could still do that when totaled.

You should have the ability to pump your own gas if you want, so that you can spray it around and light things on fire.

It would be cool if TK took like two seconds to jack a vehicle that wasn't his (to get used to the car, move the seat, etc), but after he drove the car a few times, shifting, starting, etc becomes faster because of familiarity?

ehh... i dont like the gas station idea. i mean, it would add realism and stuff, but i dont see having to stop for gas in a video game as fun. it would be cool to see traffic stop and pull up to the pump, and have a person get out and start to fill the tank, just to give the city more life, but i definetly do not want to have to worry about filling my car up.

No one would probably even bother, they would probably just steal another car if they ran out of gas. It would just add to realism.

Or they should be able to push their car all the way to the gas station. That would be cool.

U could push cars in GTA u know!

You can push jumbo jets in GTA too

Yes, but instead of actually using your hands, you run against it and it moves, which looks pretty stupid so I hope that you'll be able to push cars using your arms.

Yeah I'm surprised they never made an animation for that at some point between GTA3 and San Andreas, you think they would've made an animation for pushing cars, but then the character might try to push walls when you run into buildings

what would be nice if you are speeding and the cops see it they should try to pull you over. And if you pull over they would get out of there car and before they get to your car you can drive off.

I would love to have to get gas in Driver: Parallel Lines, but I would want it to be either a cheat, or be able to turn it off by a cheat. It would get extremely obnoxious having to get gasoline every time you entered a vehicle that was low on gas.

I thought this to. it may sound stupid but sometimes I'll try to obey the traffic laws and pull up into the gas station just for fun.:(

I have a few good and bad things about this idea:
Good:
You can fill up you gas tanks like a normal person
You can shoot the gas tank, watch and watch it leak, the start a fire which hits the streaming gas, and boom!

Bad:
High speed chases, when you run out, and your being chased by three cops, and you run out
Missions, everyone hates failing missions, but running out of gas while in a chase, that might piss some people off. (me for one)
Real cops will shoot the gas tank when a car speeds off, or will try, then you are screwed, you might not get far. Considering it's real world A.I. then this will happen often.

I wish i was able to buy cars too, to add to the realism. It would also add sentimental value to your ride. I also wish the vehicals could be more interactible, like be able to open all the doors when your by them and be able to use your blinkers to obey the traffic laws once in a while. I also want gas, but i would want to be able to turn it on and off. i would like to open the hood too, to be able to change the oil and stuff. then I could be able to go to a car dealership and sell my car, that would just make the game more fun, i think.

Running out of gas in the snow:p

I think you all are taking this too far.

The real world AI thing, hate to break it to you, is just something they said to hype the game up because the AI sucked last time. It might be a little bit better. And if it was real world AI, the cops wouldn't shoot your tank, they'd shoot your tires.

Even if you could fill the tank up, it doesn't necesarily mean that you would be able to see it leak if you shot it, although it would be very cool if it could do that. Also, even if you can't filler up, you should still be able to make the tank leak, and then shoot the puddle to set it on fire.

john cena

Actually this feature would be pretty cool, especially if you filled your tank up right before you started the mission and then you save the game so that you will have your tank filled. This would be pretty good especially if you were chasing a car and had to destroy it, but once it's gas tank goes empty you could just kill the person and blow up the car or keep it and push it all the way to a gas station. And instead of there just being one gas station, I think that there'll likely be more and so you can pull upto them anywhere in the game.

Stuff to add off the top of my head:

-Able to ride shotgun.
-Modify your ride.
-Gas station (for realism).
-Smarter AI. Ex. Speeding tickets after pulling off to side of road.
-Conversation between other characters.
-Change of clothes.
-Lock picking.
-Take cover while shooting (ex. Around a wall).
-Cops cuff you and you have a chance to break free.

alrighty.

Felony 11-79 was one of the first games I had for Playstation 1. I don't remember anything about it because I have only kept 3 Playstation games, Driver, Driver 2, and Twisted Metal 3.

the gas station idea is kool, plus it would be kool if you had a car alarm on your car so if someone stole it, the cops would go after them. It would be fun to watch the chase:D
