Hey.
What do amusement park companies do with old coasters? Cedarfair owns Worlds of Fun and since its been open 3 coasters that I know of have been replaced: Scream Machine, Zambedee Zinger, and now (sadly) Orient Express. What happens to these? Do they get thrown away? Used in another park? Retired?
I would love to get my hands on some pics of those coasters. Igrew up on those coasters (well not literally) and want to remember them to return to my childhood.
Thanks

steel coasters get sent to a scrapyard where the steel is recycled & melted down to make other products....as for woodies they just get chopped up into firewood if they're to be scrapped & not relocated to another park.

Not exactly True.... A BIG chunk of cash to just scrap, although they may be in certain instances for steel (Drachenfire)
As for Wood, many old woodies were torn down in one place to be re-born anew.
Fla Hurricane from Circus World/Boardwalks and Baseball is now in Arkansas, and there are quite a few others that also got a "life after death"
Oh, and most of the wood in Woodies is pressure treated and deadly to use as firewood, especially if painted.

In the case of Orient Express, my understanding is that it was scrapped. I'm told that the ride was having too many maintenance issues causing it to be down too often, with the repairs being too costly for it to be cost-effective to keep running the ride.

That's too bad; The orient express was a great coaster. I rode it every year of my childhood/teenage years. In 2003 I went back to it after about 14 years. It was a lot smaller than i remembered, but it was still great. I loved the first false drop, after coming off the lift, you circle around a bit, then drop maybe 15 feet. Then you hit the big one. The helix at the end also was great, elevating until you got to the station level. Ahhhh..... Or course the station itself, dropping down into a tunnel, turning and ending up on the lift.
Great stuff.
I did actually recreate the dang thing in RCT 2 but lost it accidently. I am going to search for more pics and try to make it again.

I know I've got some nice pics of it at home, but I'm not sure exactly where I put them -- house is a bit of a mess right now!
I got a kick out of the "Chicken Exit" sign in the station.
Although I've only been to Worlds of Fun a few times, I'll also miss Orient Express. (Its final season was also the year of my most recent visit to Worlds of Fun -- hoping to get back this summer, but only time will tell.) The second half of the ride was rather bumpy, but I thought it was a generally enjoyable coaster.

:( It's always sad to hear that a coaster was scrapped. I knew they removed Orient Express, but didn't know what they did with it.:(

According to RCDB
Zambezi Zinger has been relocated to Parque Nacional Del Café as Broca
I take it you mean Screamroller rather than Scream Machine? It has been relocated to Formosa WonderWorld as Spiral
Orient Express has not been located as far as I can tell.
