View Full Version : Dreadnaught vs. Airbus A380

Apparently we had a test fly of the new Airbus A380 here in Melbourne today; though I didn't see it myself I heard on the radio descriptions of the plane that had the span of a single wing at 80 metres.
It got me thinking - a Dreadnaught is only around 160 metres from head to tail - could the air-based Airbus actually be larger than the space-based Dreadnaught?

Well, the Dreadnaught's crew was appox 44 people, right? It's also wider and probably a bit thicker.
I believe the monstrously subsidized Airbus is meant to carry a few hundred, so I imagine it could be the case.

About 800 I believe...
I saw it being tailed by a Learjet... looked like a bird behind it.

The Dreadnaught would also be heavier than the Airbus, wouldn't it?

Should be easy comparing the stats.
I can't be bothered. :p

Definitley, far more heavy, with all the reactors and armour and whatnot...

Do ships from the Iwar universe ever land on planets? Or are they built in, and meant solely for, space-borne operations. If they never have to enter an atmosphere, then the mass is limited only by how much maneuverbility you hope to get out of it (or structural limitations if you get big enough)...

The ships are designed for space only (with a few exceptions)

The only ship in I-War able to land on planets is the LST, which looks like a giant delta wing with thrusters.
There was actually a "lost" I-War mission where you had to cover an LST while it landed on a planet, however having combat so close to a planet made the textures look awful and it was scrapped. However, some of the Particle Systems folks gave us the scripts a while back along with some other missions that never made it to the game.
I thought the jumbo shuttle thing was atmosphere capable too?

Do you mean the 'Interfacer' shuttle?

Dreadnaught vs. Airbus A380
Dreadnaught wins. PBCs are great.

If someone can point me to a model of each, I could do a nice size comparison and add it to my EoC Ship Size Comparison site.

i like the pic with the Dreadnaught on the ocean freighter...
that thing can never take off though... it would need it's main thrusters to really move, but that would blow off that half of the freighter!!

should give you the stats... although not a 3D model, someone could create one, but at least you could just scale it as necessary and make a 2D comparison.

Well, what do you know; I do have a copy of the dreadnaught model after all. I was being a little lazy looking for an Airbus model because I figured it wouldn't help if I couldn't find another copy of the dreadnaught. I'll look a little harder this time and post something as soon as I find a nice one.
Thanks for the link. Good place for specs.
