View Full Version : Are you a Long time Lurker or a Passionate Poster ?

Being a bit of a lurker myself, and hardly ever posting my opinions or thoughts, I was wondering if this community had other lurkers who hardly ever post, but check out the forum every day/week just to catch up.

Why do you prefer to lurk ?

Would the lurkers posting more often give a better idea of how many fans of AOW are still active with the game ? ( not every fan plays online matches for one reason or another).

Your thoughts are welcome....

Well, i was active before release, but, when the game came out (and community died) i started to lurk. Mostly because of little activity, but ide still check. But, after getting word about the expansion, im back.

I admit myself that i'm a lurker too. but i think it's better to post, just as the same reason you give : "to make our community look bigger"

I usually don't lurk (but I do lurk on other forums though).

Just my 2 cents, it never hurts to post. I get tired of hearing the same opinion over and over again, and new opinions are good. Not only that, but by posting you can also become a better player (asking questions, getting involed, etc). :)

I'm a total lurker -- but post passionately whenever I have some exciting news. :) If you haven't signed up for the beta already, hurry over here http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=505180 We're shooting for Beta end of this week (obviously, with the open beta starting...), everything on track so far. Have continued to play a lot of skirmish games on the previous WIP progress build, I can just say that Mercenaries kick serious butt! Eugen had a visitor last Friday, our friend CiTNoH who (as the winner of an Act of War tournament organized by Atari Germany) got to spend a day hands-on with the dev team in Paris. Read his battle-report (in German) here: http://aow.myexp.de/include.php?path=comment/comment.php&comcat=cont&subid=383 As we're kinda crunching to get the Beta out, getting new screens out has been a little on the back burner. We hope to get some more out next week though -- stay tuned!

I lurked for a while on these fourms before I actually started posting, though most of the time I'll never post on fourms, just lurk around, usually due to a lack of moderation and an over-abundance of immaturity on them. Fortionetly, this fourm is the opposite of them :D

I posted 6 or 7 times every day March-June, but when I got back from a vacation and discovered a dead community, I posting, for the most part.

I've started coming back though--it seems like more people are posting every day. Maybe it's growing again :)

I used to post a lot back when the community was still thriving, but now with the expansion people seem to be coming back and a lot of new people are joining too, so I might just come back for this expansion.

I don't lurk. Either i am there or not there.
If I am not posting, it means I haven't been on the forums for a long time.
When I am posting, it means I am on the forum :)

By the way, we need more smilies.

I knew I wasn't the only one here to lurk, I kinda like to live up to my name when it comes to forums and posting in them, plus I think I'm a bit voyeristic !!....(in the sense that I like seeing other folks lives unfold, NOT that I'm peeping in your windows right now or anything !!!!!!!)  :wasntme-sign:

Anyway, other folk tend to get there before I do with the questions and the answering etc...etc...

The majority of the time I just lurk around here reading up on the various posts to keep up on what happeing.

I have posted to some threads just to put my .02 cents in on some issues.

My primary concerns at this point are AOW:HT as to the game laoding and running on my system without issue, but, since the demo had no such issue's running, it shouldn't have them with that actual HT expansion, but, ya never know.

I just hope Atari Tech in on the ball this time around with resolving them.

More Important, the Tech fixes need to be posted and sticky'd as they present themselves for everyone's benefit.

Well HT would not run on my system though the demo did.

I did fix it and posted else where

Lurker by far.... :(

Originally found this site when I was looking for more maps for Act of War... and now back because of the High Treason expansion.

I loved Act of War... but since I don't play online... got REAL BORED, REAL QUICK due to the lack of variety in the maps.

High Treason looks awesome... playing the 2 maps over and over again... but probally won't end up buying it if I can't get my hands on much variety of maps.

Love the Command and Conquer fan sites... awesome maps, mods, etc... and the reason I keep on playing them. Hoping Atari will understand with this relalize that not all of us play online... and that the map creators and modders actually help sales of the game itself.

Going back to lurking :)

Yeah, but it doesn't cure the possibility of getting abuse or the possibility that your opponent disconnects and you don't get to finish the game,

and you can't always get a game when you want it, you may have to hang around for ages until you get an opponent.

And you can't just pause the game to go for a drink or a wizz when you want.

...Unlike playing Engagement / Skirmish !! :D

YAY! Skirmish is best!

I rarely play online though, as the last dozen or so times I've played, I've had death threats from losers for beating them hands down (kinda ruins the fun or me, as I've been under real threats before - don't ask). So, I really only play online with friends (the............... few the I have).

P.S. These threats are from other games, as I've yet to play AoW online (except for a few beta games).

These are all good points but I'm willing to risk it in order to test my mettle against real live human opponents. Still I cant say much since I've yet to see an online match through to completion (mainly because of the reasons you pointed out) but I'm still holding onto hope since I love this game so much and readily invite the challenges it presents online and off.:p

Well, erm... I'm finding online rather tedious at the moment, you can spend ages looking for a game to join, and I seem to keep getting games with folk that dissconnect rather to quickly and end the fun i'm having blowing them to smithereens !! (sp??)

Mind you, that STCAB handed my butt to me on a bloody platter the other night, along with my entrails and eyeballs !!

I just couldn't get into my stride that time, just couldn't get enough cash together to do anything but tremble in his butt handing-to-you-ness !!

I've been lurking around here for well over a year now, but the latest game HT, and how I feel about it, prompted me to register.
