We know that this upgrade was originally slated to take much longer and we apologize for not meeting this goal, we will try next time to stick with the announced timeline. But in the spirit of the holidays we simply couldn’t hold back any longer and wanted to have you all back and enjoying yourselves. Our intent was to bring greater security, features, and layout to our members and mods, and we believe this upgrade does just that! We hope you’ll agree as well, please see below some of the forums new capabilities and features.
• Updated layout and theme
• vBulletin 3.5.2 with better security
• Public and private calendar
• New emoticons (plus the classics)
• Quick links and greater search capabilities
• More flexible warning system with automatic WL removal
• Profile picture option
• Banner ads (minimally and unobtrusively)
Our moderators and some users have helped Matt and the rest of the Atari staff to make sure the transition is as transparent as possible and as beneficial as possible for everyone, and our thanks goes out to them as well for their hard work. You may notice that at present there is no dark theme layout, or perhaps there is something else which you’d like to see done. The dark theme is in the works, so standby for that, and if you have other suggestions, compliments, or bug reports we ask that you post them in this announcement thread. Happy Holidays and thank you for your patience during the change over!
Best Regards,
The Atari Community Forum Team

Read what matt posted about the new skin, and an old dark skin. I think one is in the works. :)

I actually like this theme. Although I hate the vBulletin purple that's left over and the default vBulletin buttons (then again, I despise that theme anyway in it's entirety so I'd hate little parts of it too)

I guess all of its technical merits surpass the old boards ones but this is akin to a fluorescent light after years of candle. Give me the candle anyday, but of course with the ability of the newer technology :icon14:
I would too like at least to have a choice of theme, guess we can't have our cake and eat it

Yeah, this is way too bright. Can't wait for a somewhat darker, not quite as standard theme to show up.
The new WL thing is nice, but you might want to re-read the list of offenses. One of them is there twice, and you have two explanations in a single "box" as well. Only error I've spotted, then again, I haven't had much chance to explore all the new features yet .

I don't really mind the new theme.
I like how we can now login from every page though. Saves me time going back to the frontpage.

its too bad in this day and age there is no way to set up a test database and get everything working first before upsetting the masses...maybe some day in the distant future..

Just wanted to update everyone on the forums status. Many of the bugs have indeed been fixed or will be soon. If you are still having issues with something please send me a PM.
Also with regards to the darktheme. We may have this ready this week but we are still working on it so no promises.
I will post a list of fixes sometime Friday mostlikely if not sooner.
Thanks,
Mattlab

Now all of the boards I visit that use vBulletin look consistent with each other. And even though the original dark blue goes back as far as I can remember, the new theme is quite endearing.
Many thanks to the admins.
It doesn't matter to me, just as long as the people stay the same.

I found a bug. It says "Powered by vBulletin Version 3.5.2" at the bottom.
Why did we have to upgrade in the first place?
As they say, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and the old forums definitely weren't "broke," as far as I could tell.

There were several issues with the old boards that needed to be corrected, and this one offered a solution to it. There certainly was a need to upgrade.

Security holes = broken.
And quite frankly I'm glad I can use a modern forum rather than something which was, and feels like it was, written 5 years ago. Sometimes there is no harm in upgrading just to get new features, even if what you have now isn't broken. Especially if upgrading doesn't break anything.
(and a skin you don't like isn't broken IMO, although bugs are an issue - which they are fixing)

I'd guess the security issues and vB 3.5's ability to use a secondary database have been the main issues.
Then the admin options, support and maybe even some addons might have had something to do with it....
Just a guess however....

A "forum jump" option would be nice to have at the bottom of the pages to quickly get around then having to have to scroll back up and out. Other forums have this option which is convenient.

Found a few problems in one of the paragraphs on the "my warnings" page:
"Please note that we do not allow sexual avatars, images in signatures, racist remarks, or signatures text & effects that span more space then 75 pixels tall by 795 pixels wide on a 1024x768 resolution. Avatars should also be 5 lines or less."
795 pixels, and Avatars @ 5 lines could cause some confusion. Justa heads up!

How can an avatar be # lines? And why does the resolution matter? Also "signatures text & effects" should be "signature text & effects".

The Classic Atari Forums Theme a.k.a. the darktheme is now Live!
We have tried to make this theme as close to the original as possible as the current forums software would allow. We hope everyone enjoys the new Classic Atari Forums Theme we have uploaded. Thank you to all those who helped make this theme possible especially forum member Psilon for laying the foundations of this great theme.
We hope to create more themes and maybe even give users a chance to create their own themes sometime in the near future...more news on this will follow.
Users may choose their themes using the drop-down menu found at the bottom of the forums.
I also want to take this time to announce that the Forums Search Index is now working again. All threads and posts have been re-indexed and will now show up when you search for something.
Regards,
