View Full Version : What bugs/cheats do you want in Driver?
Bugs, apart from being really annoying, can also be hilarious, and there's one from the Driver series that I've always loved, but wasn't in Driv3r. It's the 'car underside pogo' bug. Basically whenever you hit the underside of a car tipped on it's side in driver 1 or 2, both your and that car would bounce extremely high in the air- sometimes over 20 storeys high.
It didn't make much sense, but it was still downright gut bustingly funny. Are there any bugs from the Driver series you'd like to see kept in Driver? or any cheats you'd like to be able to use? Perhaps the 'trampoline car' bug from Driver 2? or an invincibility mode for the survivor minigame for some pinball-style madness? Let's hear them!

yah what they said, plus cop cheat where if you get away from the cops and steal a police car you can take it to Rays he can change the plates then you can go around and pull people over! they'll actually go to the side of the road to. it's not really a cheat more of a trick, but it would be cool.

I'd like to see some of the funny glitches of driver and driver 2 as well as cheats like invincibility, immunity, unlimited ammo, no car damage, all weapons, and even the one cheat available in Driver where you can drive your car upside down. It looked so funny and hilarious to drive like that.

Cheat: Alternate Civilian Paint Jobs
Description: Basically, some paint jobs on the civilian cars would change. white cop cars would be black, armored vehicles would go from yellow to blue... junk like that. I don't expect this to happen but it would be pretty cool.
Cheat: Car Drop
Description: A vehicle drop for certain rare or common cars to drop from the sky. Like GTA.
Cheat: All weapons + A ridiculous amount of ammunition
Description: Self-explanitory. This is the only cheat that I'm gonna list here that "helps" you beat or play the game. I only like the fun, pointless cheats :).
Cheat: Skins
Description: There would be a bunch of codes for different skins in the game, like in mercenaries. You could be afro-man, slink, ray, and all of the other characters, and maybe some characters from different atari games. It would just be a little thing for you to do when you get bored. They can only be unlocked second time through the game.
Cheat: Law Enforcer
Description: Play as a cop. Your skin will automatically change, and your current car will appear as a cop car from that era. Your radar will have blips on it showing you where crimes and chases are in progress.
Cheat: Mass Panic/Riot
Description: Self-explanitory pretty much. People running around with guns, and other various objects (there would be less traffic, more people, and more cops). You would find random cars flipped over, and random cars that look like they were on fire or are on fire.
Cheat: Max Hydrolics
Description: Kinda like the one cheat in GTA, where you press the R3 button and your car rockets about 15 feet and lands back on the wheels. Great way to dodge traffic.
Cheat: Always Night/Day/Dawn/Dusk
Description: Self-explanitory.
Cheat: Pedestrian Sets
Description: There would be different cheats for different sets of pedestrians. There would be the normal set, a set for homeless people (more homeless people walking around), a set for hoe-bags (more slutty women walking around), a set for old people (more old people walking around)....
Cheat: Northern Lights/Acid Trip
Description: The sky would change akward and psychodelic colors.
Cheat: Star Wars
Description: This is for when you get REALLY bored. Changes all bullets to red/blue lasors.
Cheat: Litter Bugs
Description: In a few of the new screens, you can see newspapers and soda cans scattered across the street. This cheat places an abundance of trash onto the street, making it look like mardi gras came to new york the night before.
Cheat: Big Head Mode
Description: The classic FPS/Shooter cheat. People will shrink to about three feet and their heads will grow three sizes.
Cheat: Ape Mode
Description: Kinda like Big Head Mode only with arms and legs. The arms will be as big as Timmy Vermicelli's from D3.
Cheat: Instant Junker
Description: After you enter this code, The car you are in or the one you were last driving will look like it was hit by a city bus. It would still have full health though.
Cheat: Hover Cars
Description: All car's tires will invert so the hubs are facing the street, giving the car a floating appearance. All tire marks on the street will be non-existant, making it actually feel like you are floating.
Cheat: Bullet Train
Description: When you beat the game, this cheat can be used. This is like the "Zero Mass" cheat in D3. Every car you hit will go flying.
Cheat: Bullet Train Cops
Description: Same thing, only the cops will have this ability. muahahaha.
Cheat: Classic Driver
Description: All of the old driver cheats except for invincibility. Stilts, Immunity, Antipodean, Forklift Controls...
Thats all I can think of for now. I'll add more as they come to me.

I edited my post and added a few more. If this thread dies, I'll make a new one with requests for certain cheats.
Yeah those cheats were pretty awesome- I like that litter idea- it'd be great for getting an authentic gritty chase feel, and also for shoving any product placement on to really small inconspicuous cans rolling around the street.
I'd like to see a Soccer (or football) cheat where a massive inflatable ball drops into the street and half the cars on the road try to push it to the east side of town while the other half push it to the west. Every now and then the ball would get bounced so high it goes over into a nearby street, and there's a mad dash with all these cars trying to get there first.
Also a cheat to double or triple the length that cars float in the air after a jump would be great.

Oh and how's this for a cheat- Invisible ramps mode, which places double ended ramps in the middle of lanes, which you don't see until you ride up one and go flying, or see a normal traffic car do the same thing!

Ah, D1 cheats, lets see:
Stilt Mode
Mini Cars
Falling Cars (the cars fell, hit the ground, and then fall again from about 100 feet in the air, continuously, park under them for a good crash)
Levitate your car/other cars
PS1 had it going on, we had some good cheat codes back then, funny stuff like the ones I listed, now everythings too serious, everyones trying to be too realistic or something. We even had secret cars back on PS1 racing games that looked like they were 50 years into the future, what happened?

cheat-infinate mass
I guess everything the previous had.
I think that maybe you can switch eras of the game once you complete it.
Haha- I remember the falling cars- every now and then the game would freeze with a disk reading symbol coming up on screen, then when it started playing again a car would just randomly fall from the sky and start driving like nothing had happened. It was cool as to drive under it before it bounced, but sometimes you'd clip it during the replay and the rest of the replay would be ruined...
It'd be great having a cheat for quick chase or getaway where the road is just covered in stuff like supermarket trolleys and BBQs etc, and you have to weave like mad just to keep up with the person you're tailing. maybe just throw in a tornado to explain why there's stuff all over the place. A bit random? Hell yeah!

Actually I would just like to see some cheats because the glitches could or probably will do some bad for DPL.
not a cheat- an option:
Comic Cops: which basically makes the cops drive exactly like they did in blues brothers and driver 1- i.e. smashing into poles when you hide behind them, crunching straight into cars you have tapped, and roaring over hills to their doom when you park just over the crest. Also make them easier to roll over, just for good measure. Acually playtest that rolling idea, and if it takes the fun out then remove it.
And of course always leaving convenient gaps in their road blocks;)
By the way- can we now safely say it's later part is set in 2008, and not 2006? I'm still not too sure.

How about a cheat or bug called "Cornholio"? Everybody has their shirts over their heads and saying "I am Cornholio, I need TP for my bunghole". Like when Beavis does that in Beavis and Butthead. Pedestrians should do this only. TK would look stupid doing it. It would be SO funny!!!!!!!!!!!
john cena
01-06-2006, 02:50 PM
Yeah, but it would be kinda pointless because we need some kind of cheats the affect gameplay dramatically. And besides it would be a stupid idea to make a bunch of stuff that's funny because I really think that this game must do well and in order for that to happen Reflections can't be fooling around too much. I don't even think that they're going to even bother make cheats for the game when they should just add as much gameplay as they possibly can.

It would cost an unecessary amount of money just to add that cheat, which would get old very fast, even though I am a fan, the whole Cornholio thing was really only funny the first time. The only reason I laugh at it is to make a friend doing an impersonation feel like they aren't as dumb as they.. are.
Laughter is the best medicine though, its true, I saw it on Ellen. Anyway, I don't know how good Reflections sense of humor, or rather, humour, is, but being funny never hurt GTA. In fact it helped. Listen to the radio. No, the one on GTA3, the other games suck. Even GTA3's radio isn't hilarious, but at least its not completely stupid like the other games "comedy"
But I do like dumb traffic, like cops running into people when chasing you, or people who don't use their brakes properly (a la Burnout)

Yes I know that it's not that bad, but it's much better if you're really serious about making your games like most people have been then I know that particular game and all the future games of that development team will do better than they would if they goofed around a little with the game. Also if they are very serious about their games then they probably will do better than GTA one day. They just gotta believe that they can do it and everything will work out fine.

Yes I guess you're right about that and it shows just what will happen to your games if you have too much of it. If you have too much of it then you could get in serious trouble or your game won't turn out the way you'd want it to. If you want your game to be very funny then do that instead of working on a action driving game and adding that kind of crap for no reason. I really want to see what Parallel Lines will tell us about the Driver series. If it gets a 10 out of 10 then it means that Reflections is really prepared to take it to the next level and perhaps overcome the GTA series. I hope they do and GTA will pay for interfering with Reflections, especially when they made fun of Tanner in Driver 2. Just because GTA looks to be on a huge role doesn't mean that it'll always be that way and I think that Parallel Lines will be one step closer for the driver series to become perhaps the best driving or even game of the year franchise out there. I just hope that they work really seriously on this game and it will prove that they are worthy of earning a few awards.

I want a variable speed cheat. I liked the super fast cheat in the original Driver game, but it was very difficult to control the vehicles, especially when making turns, and was next to impossible when using the already extremely fast cars (I think this was only the PC version). Anyways, I want to be able to choose how much faster the car can go, from 2x-10x the speed, because sometimes it's fun to go really fast off of a jump and watch the car go flipping through the air at close to 300 MPH, and 10x speed would make this possible.
I would also like to see the infinite mass mode come back. One thing that bugged me about the infinite mass mode in Driv3r was that it was only available in Istanbul. Hopefully it will be available in both 70s and present day NY.
If there is no beginning menu screen (like GTA), the cheats should be available in the pause screen, and there should be cheats that make it so you can make it only daytime, nighttime, raining, snowing, and/or clear (only allowing you to mix a time of day with a weather condition). But if you want to go back to normal, just deactivate the cheats, like you could in Driv3r.
A random cheat that would be really funny would be to have UFOs come and randomly abduct pedestrians, and if you are walking, make you just as vulnerable. You should be able to overtake your alien captors and take over the UFO and fly it around. It's really random, really funny, and would be really fun. :p
Mr. Tanner
01-07-2006, 10:59 AM
Maybe with the Beavis and Butthead cheat, pedestrians just talk like Beavis and Butthead. Saying things like "buttmunch", "wus", "bunghole" and "buttwipe". I can come up with many others, but these are some of the funniest. Like TK can drive on the sidewalk and a pedestrian says "You bunghole!". That's what I'm talking about and it would be really funny.

I guess the Timmy Vermicellis were supposed to be funny, but it ended up being a really weak shot at Rockstar and GTA:VC. Humor does often make a game more enjoyable. There could be funny cheats that also affect gameplay, such as my alien abduction cheat suggestion.
Even TV shows that see themselves as serious usually have little bits of humour thrown in to give audiences breathing space. I really can't see Reflections ever getting on top of Rockstar without growing a sense of humour. In a way, Rockstar and Reflections are like the old and new Italian Jobs- think about it:
The Old Italian job was laced with humour all the way through, and didn't take itself too seriously since the main characters were all about representing england, yet they were a bunch of squabbling no hopers- which made people like them more.
The new Italian Job attempted to come across as an ultra-serious tale of revenge, with characters that all came from tried and tested hollywood moulds. The result was a story that was plain boring, with little to no care shown for the main characters.
The old Italian Job really got creative in what it did with it's minis. It had them driving through stores, off ramps over roofs, through sewers and all over the place in the unsuspecting town of Turin, Italy.
The New Italian Job, again afraid to be too exotic for it's American target audience, quickly did a sequence in Venice (to give the movie's title a shred of meaning) before setting the rest in familiar territory for Americans- L.A. A few mini shots reflected the original, like the sewers...and that's about it. The mini sequence ended before it had really begun.
You see the pattern? Reflections (up till now at least) has been all about the ultra serious story with one dimensional characters that no-one cares about, whereas GTA plays a more adventurous tack with more fleshed out characters. GTA isn't popular because of a bandwagon like CS is, it genuinely knows what people want to play, and not only delivers, but always thinks to itself 'how can i improve myself'. As a result, Rockstar is always two steps ahead of everyone else, since everyone else is always thinking 'how can we be a rival to the current GTA game'
And the Cornholio thing? i'd probably laugh at it when I saw it, and then be sick to death of it after seeing the 4th person doing it. Pedestrian humour has worked pretty well when dialogue-driven, making animations for them would need to have a bit more lasting appeal than Cornholio...

I just said this in another thread, but it belongs here so I'll say it again:
A Cheat for Driver 1 physics, so if a car is on its side and you hit it, it flies in the air, or if you glance off the top of another car you'll fly hundreds of feet in the air
A cheat to freeze the water, so you can drive on it (except with ice physics), since we have no boats or swimming this time.
That suggestion was the very first idea put forward in this thread.
I should know- I wrote it :D
matt__jon
01-11-2006, 10:21 AM
Yeah, you're probably right. I thought it sounded familiar. Thats why I put in another idea, the water one, so we can drive on water like in Driver 1. Those were the good old days, I loved driving on the air next to the Brooklyn Bridge
Or what about a cruise control! I can't believe I ddidn't think of that sooner! How much wear and tear would your thumb avoid if there was a cruise control button!

Yeah... It was an off white game... with a beige story line.... and gray music. Yeah D3 pretty much made me hate life.
Actually I think the music was Driv3r's strong point. It was the only aspect that didn't have a weakness at all (the licensed part anyway- the specially made stuff was even worse than Driver 2's Chicago flute tune).
How about an 'invincible tyres' option- trying to complete missions with flat tyres is more frustrating than fun, that's why I put it down as an option rather than a cheat. Usually movie chases don't use flat tyres until they want to end a chase, and I don't like the idea of some rogue bullet telling me when my car chase is over!
sorry for the double post but does anyone else really miss the hubcaps flying off? I always thought that was one of the coolest extras in the early drivers. I sure hope they include that as well, don't you think?

There's no 24 hour clock standard in the game. It's GTA style time (1 minute on earth=1 hour in the game). I understand weather doesn't come standard. I want the time to be as realistic as possible. In GTA, you're simply wasting time because it's too fast for the day and night cycle, D:PL's going in the same direction.
Yeah I'd personally like to see an attempt at a 24hr day cycle in a game, to see what impact it would have on playing the game for long periods. I don't mind the 24 minute cycle, but it is hard to try doing things according to a time of day, and GTA seems pretty set in keeping it at 24mins=1 day. Hell even a 6 hour cycle would be good...maybe even perfect.

Oh boohoo. Maybe they'll incorporate an option for people who like to play games for 10 hours at a time to see a change in the day.
BTW, an example, Pokemon Gold and Silver had a 24 hour clock, worked in time with whatever time you programmed into the gameboy, sure, it was kinda cool, until you wanted to catch something. Some things only came out at night, and even then you barely ever found them. Not that that would be the case with DPL. Its just as easy (well not anymore) to just pick night time to play in when its night.

what happens if you die or get arrested in D:PL?
Yeah, that’s a great question. They still haven’t explained what happens if you fall in the water. They said you won’t die from drowning, but since TK can’t swim...how does he recover? I’m afraid this conundrum could rip a hole through the space/time continuum!
edit: I just read a new article posted by #1theman, in the FAQ thread. It says that when TK lands in the water, he immediately reappears back on land and thumps the water out of his ears. I think that's gonna be great!

Actually, the last article I read said that If you fall in the water, you just respawn right next to where you fell in and T.K. shakes the water out of his ear. Pretty nifty idea they had there, I think.

That's funny.. but I'm not too sure why they didn't just let us be able to swim.
tell me about it- all they had to do was make a better swimming animation and they had it made. Now TK needs floaties just as much as Timmy Vercimelli did!
What's that dude with the fishing rod who sits on a cloud and fishes you out of the water in mario kart? I'd laugh so hard if he swooped down to save you. He'd almost be the guardian angel of water resistant drivers everywhere.

yeah, now that you mention that too, luvmygames, I remember in GTA, especially Vice City, you couldn't get back to shore even in boats because it was all walls. That really sucked, very stupid decision.
so what? it's better than standing on a burning boat, being in a car that gets pushed into the water, being confronted by a bridge with police blocks when trying to stay low, or having a cool jump go wrong and have your motorbike plunge into the sea, all the while wishing you'd learnt to swim as a kid.
D:PL is setting a lot of driv3r wrongs right, but no swimming is a big step backwards, particulary after the mockery they gave Vercetti for not being able to swim.
luvmygames
02-07-2006, 01:39 AM
I'd agree with you brok if there were boats in the game, but since there's not... I don't feel like I need to swim. I'd hate to land in the water and have to swim 4 miles to the nearest ladder or smooth embankment to return to shore. The absents of boats negate the use of swimming in my opinion. Now if you wanna argue that they should have included boats in the game, and therefore swimming...I might agree with you there. I'm one of those that think EVERY vehicle should be in the game...and drivable. Including the helicopter!

I don't think that's a glitch. I think it's just the way it was written.
...which is a shame, since car surfing was one of my favourite time wasting hobbies in GTA.
I know it's not a cheat, but since we know that you can buy bulletproof tyres and windshields etc, it looks like we might be able to have a completely bulletproof car...for a price. Honestly I think the armed police completely wrecked Driv3r's survival mode.

I hope they return the cheat where your car is unstopable unless you hit a solid wall. Like the infinite mass mode in Istanbul of DRIV3R. I'd get the fastest sports car mod it to the max with nitro and mow down cars on the longest bridge/long straight road I can find.
I unlocked that for Istanbul, but now it won't work. Dunno why. Anyway it would be a blast to drive like that at 122 mph or whatever they said you can get up to now.
I also heard there was some cheat for one of the first drivers you needed a gameshark or something like that for, which would make all other cars leap in fright when you honked your horn. That'd be awesome, a bit like a spontaneous earthquake.

I don't know if this happened to anyone else who used the cheat, I also had invincibility on, but my car just seemed to get slower and slower, I felt like I was going 15mph, I know D3 has no sense of speed, so maybe I was paying too much attention to the speed I was going, cause that tends to make the game look a lot slower, but this seemed way too slow. The car was legally dead though, but because of invincibilty it was still running.

I loved the infinite mass cheat. That was my favorite and I'm really hoping it comes back. I never used invincibility with it, but I did notice some slowdown anyway. I hope they make it a truly infinite mass this time. In D3, you'd still slowdown a little when you hit a big truck or bus.

I also want infinite mass mode to come back. I thought it was completely pointless for it to be limited to Istanbul, I wanted it in all 3 cities.
I want to be able to choose the difficulty of the cops in D:PL. I don't care if it's in a menu or if it's a cheat. But I want to be able to pick one of the following: Immunity, Stupid cops, Okay Cops, Pretty Good Cops, or Super Smart Cops. Sometimes I just like to explore the city without cops chasing me, and that is why I want to be able to have immunity.
john cena
03-05-2006, 03:51 PM
Immunity isn't very necessary because it's boring driving around without any cops and you'll likely get better playing the game when you play it the original way and that's being chased by cops.
matt__jon
03-05-2006, 04:27 PM
I remember the first Driver, when I found the immunity cheat, I was so happy, and I played, and there was nothing to do. I eventually got bored of invincibility too. And infinite mass.
Only reason I used invincibility in D3 is because you loose health in accidents, and cops that get headshots on someone in a speeding vehicle. I really hate that I used to want to loose health in car accidents, I feel responsible because maybe Reflections read it and used it. Realism doesn't always work.
I actually wouldn't mind a developers mode cheat code where you could change all sorts of variables and constants, like gravity, or change all sorts of little options that are very specific, like say, how high a body flies when you hit it, or what direction it goes when you hit it.
In fact, that gives me an idea for a Flatout type minigame, Pedestrian Volleyball, its kinda like destruction derby, all the cars on the road would be involved, the object is to keep pedestrians in the air as long as possible, though they'd have to be made more bouncy so they don't just flop around. Any takers?

I'd love to see my city (NYC) in 1991, more modernized from the 70s, have some 70s cars back, and a few 2006 cars too for that year. Those are cheats we NEED for D:PL because it's about agging processes.
A spitfire would be pure bliss! And if you could make peds and cars float away from you when you punch or shoot them...man I'd never get tired of that one! Just imagine sending a car drifting away, and shooting one side of it until it's spinning like a top in midair. Heavenly.

It isn't too hard really. It's all a matter of certain vehicles spawning, building construction, city styles, TK, pedestrians, and the Twin Towers. This game's about agging processes, not multiple cities like in the previous Driver games.
matt__jon
03-08-2006, 07:56 AM
Well if it isn't that hard, then you go through the 30 square mile city, research what was there and what wasn't in 1991, change every building (thousands of them) accordingly on a graphics program, drawing every pixel, then model about 40 cars for that era, tune them to work with the physics engine, make them able to be modded, go back through, edit the pedestrians. Work out the bugs, and since its a cheat I guess we don't need music from that era. But if you wanted it absolutely realistic (since everyone seems to want that:rolleyes: ) go to recording studios and spend thousands on the rights to someones music, in a nutshell
Yeah, that does sound easy now that I think about it.
Well I suppose the cars wouldn't be too hard- you could just make sure that models created after whatever the date is don't spawn, but the changes to buildings and textures would still be pretty massive.

I don't know if it's already been mentioned, but remember those GTA cheat CD's for the PS2, called "Ultimate Codes by Action Replay"? Wonder if they're still doing this for games, since I haven't seen it around for any new games in the past year...
For GTA: Vice City, I was able to enter a code that let the main character float into the sky forever, as long as you held the jump button. You could see the entire city from above. They made a cd for the Getaway, but it was very limited, like the one for True Crime, which only allowed minor cheats that didn't really affect gameplay, just the character appearance and money, stat counts.
My point being they should make a cheat disc for DriverPL, allowing you to switch on and off a bunch of things in the game; traffic, day/night, pedestrians, flying mode, etc. New codes though.
Here's a link to the game codes with Action Replay Max. Too bad the codes are just rehashed.

That wouldn't be a cheat though- Unless you mean having those camera views unlockable only after you've completed some of the game, which is a bit crazy- most games offer all their camera angles right from the start, which makes sense since people wouldn't bother trying to switch angles looking for new ones once they've been playing for a while. You'd probably get a pretty limited use out of a directly overhead camera, as well.
