View Full Version : Attack of the aliens! - Spaceships! - W.I.P

Hi all this is my first custom scenery, It has some textures to be fixed which can be done easily but I have got it into the game and I am happy about that. I am going to make several different spaceships for this set.

Each model shall have 2 different meshes, a chrome one and a glass one, and both shall work like they should (reflective and shiny :))
Each model shall also have 2 different textures, a silver one and an orange one, to match with existing alien items.
There will be different sized ships, varying from massive cruisers to small fighter ships.
I hope to include at least 4-5 different types of ship.

I suggest you model some recognised spaceships that we all know and love. You'll get more of a reaction if you do. As far as textures go, unfortunatly there is no easy way of creating them.

Get photoshop and start googling.

I have got photoshop, and I know how to make some stuff.

To the suggestion about modelling recognised spaceships, I don't want to, first of all they will probably be a little bit too much for what I am willing to take on at the moment. Also it's not creative.

Also, I have the textures I need, but I just need to get them to show correctly, which will be fixed when I go back and recreate these a final, proper time. (Really this was jsut a test, but the same models will be used.)

I understand that, but people tend to build rides based from ideas of films or tv shows. Ideas that already have an imprinted image in their brains. If it's not a replication they will feel frustrated.

It's your baby, and i don't want to force you, by no means. If you want to create your own designs by all means. What i would suggest though is to try and do as many drawings as possible. I have here on my table roughly 20-30 odd sketches of models i want to make, and i constantly add new bits to them.

As a modeller you will never be satifised by the end result, it's one of those annoying things about us, we go for perfection :D

As far as texturing goes, do try and remember rct3 is a cartoony game, having realistic looking textures would look wrong in this engine. If we had an importer, i would have started retexturing all the models to fit a more realistic engine but alas.

[edit] btw, how big are those ships relation to say a 3h wall? They look fairly small, but that could simply be a trick of perspective.

There are tiny, I am working on getting them bigger. I think they are half the height of a 3h wall.

I want these models for a new coaster I am making, called Attack of the Aliens! I jsut thought I might aswell give a scenery pack for them too.

I have modelled 3 ships so far. I expect to add 2 battleships to this, making 5 spaceships (10 with the dif colours.)

Hey Froggee... were these designed in photoshop? How did you import them into the game?

I made these in Wings3d. I imported them into the game using jonwils scenery importer. Check the stickys for more info.

Battleship 1 is modelled :)

Those look Very cool Frogee, very nice work on them :up: :up: Just make what you want to make, as long as you're enjoying yourself it'll be fine.

One thing you could do for the icons would be to use the black walls/floor pieces from Pumpers Dark Ride set & build a wall behind & a black floor under your props & take a screenshot & then cut out the black background in Photoshop & save it with a transparent background as a png file. Then just crop/resize to 64x64 & there's your icon.

But if I import to the game and get the logos from there, I will then have to reimport because I can't call up any kind of save point from it :P I guess I will just have to spend 2 lifetimes importing these lol ^^

Also as you can see I fixed my problem. Instead of exporting from wings as .3DS I exported as .OBJ (Format for Sims 2) and it worked a charm :)

You won't have to reimport any of the files after you get the pics for the icons, other than the icon "sheet". You can just select the new one like you did to begin with & then reinstall the theme & it'll work fine. That's what I always do for mine.

I'm glad to hear you got it figured out, do you still need those rocks?

Oh also, how do you make your scenerys collision detection go off?

No problem Frogee, if you want collision detection on your props you have to check flag #33 I believe, otherwise it won't have it.

These look pretty cool, although kind of plain-looking. Do they move at all? Because if they don't, they wouldn't be useful for very much. But I understand that this is some of your first scenery, and is actually good for a new scenery-maker. Well, it's better than what I can do. I don't even know how to model in 3d...not yet...

modchipv12, aniamtion has not yet been figured out in the importer, but jonwil expects to make it happen soon!

News on the spaceships:
It seems like everything is good to go. Importing is all I need to do next, then get icons and add icons. Should be done today if I step on it.
