It's a wooden side support for your coasters. Good idea Neno. I may try this when I finish my spaceships (If someone hasn't already done it.)

Im nearly finished my space ships theme too!:D

Just kidding dude wouldn't know where to start.:haha:

This is a great idea would look impressive on the woodies:up:

That has been missing, makes woodies look alot more realistic when used right.

If this object was to be made as custom scenery fro RCT3 it would need to be made in a similar way as Pumpers Supports. For example, if you put your cursor over the tile you wish to put it on and then hold the shift key you can raise it up and instead of it looking like it is floating in mid air, square supports are automatically added underneath so it looks like it is being held up. Most of pumpers supports do this. If you make a coaster using those supports and then switch to underground view, you will see loads of long poles drilling into the ground!

Hope you all understand what i mean.

Thanks

Neil

I understand what you mean. I might try it.

EDIT: I am modelling it now actually! :P

Is the triangular bit 3 walls high or do you want it any different?

rctneil

It's Exactly 3 X 3high wall pieces.

Thanks

How's this:

http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/327/supports8yn.jpg

I am working on the bottom supports as I type.

I still need to learn a few things about the importer before I can finish this.
Also if someone is looking, how do I make my object recolourable with the dif colours etc?

I asked Pumper to do something like this, but I don’t think he ever got around to it.

Froggee you might want to add extra long supports to the base, like Pumper did to his supports, so when you raise it off the ground the supports continue down. Just like an iceberg, you can see the tip, but most of it is underwater, in this case underground.

I am working on them, how many floors of them should I make?

Guybrush_47

You could just give them supports already in the game?

All you'd have to do is select the object and give it a support value, rather than having to physically model them. Might be easier, just depends if you can find a support already ingame that will fit.

Sorry, didn't see that. I guess you should make them level with the wooden coasters maximum height that would be your best bet.

I'm gonna have to make the supports seperate, because the model is becoming poly intensive. Pumpers supports were only 2 columns which means very little polys. I think alpha textures would make this look weird.

Anyway to match the wood texture too? They look kinda metallic above (although that's just a prototype),

Phil

That object has no texture, it's jsut the programs very quick rendering (Kinda)

Also what colours should I make them or shall I make the recolourable? (Which I don't know how to.)

Recolorable... But I don't think someone wants red supports... All we need is brown for wooden coasters.

Those look excellent frogee. Can't ait to try them out in game!

Thanks

I have finished the main model and will include an extra square support for those who have higher coasters. I don't want to make the main object too high poly, and so far it is about 550 polys. I hope this isn't too much, as I don't know the poly limits for RCT3. I think alpha texturing this object would be a pain in the @$$ and I really don't want to try it. I am sure that most people won't have a problem with just one object.

Also, who knows what could be accomplished with the normal square supports? I bet there's a few things you could do!

I really need the info on how to make these recolourable, so if anybody knows how, PLEASE reply.

?????? No way! We need recolorable! If you want to make The Racer at PKI or Blue Streak at CP you would at least need white and light blue. Just brown is boring, plus there's 3 browns, and I've made coasters using all of them.

I agree, woodies are many different colours, and who knows what colour people are gonna make them.

Unfortunately I still have no info on how to make this recolourable.

Brilliant! Of course we would also need the square one from RCT2 and support walls like the ones I made for RCT2 to have the complete set. I'd love to be able to fill in those ugly gaps left in the supports when tracks cross over each other.

Here is a shot of the walls I made for RCT2:

No...I mean I made the ones for RCT2...but we need some for RCT3. Sorry...I didn't say it right... ;) I fixed it...

it is RCT2 not RCT3,

I am thinking he is the one who made those, maybe not him, but i know there are some atari members are RCT2 custom makers.

PS slow reply :)

Phil

Oh I see. Sorry, the way fisherman worded it it made me think that he made them in RCT3, and I know the screeny was RCT2.

Also, I can't go ahead with this until I know how to make my objects recolourable.

Unfortunately recolourableness isn't working which is disappointing.

Hopefully we all know that this object will probably not looking anything like the actual wooden coasters in game.

You know how you used the wooden supports in RCT2 to make them for RCT2? Well, why don't you use the wooden supports in RCT3 to make them for RCT3?

Phil
01-08-2006, 10:34 AM
It's not as simple as that. I believe for RCT2 there was no meshes, because everything was 2d you didn't need meshes, so people jsut copy and pasted out sections of the coaster, got them all looking good and got them into the game. That's what I believe. Also once again I can't do anything without being able to make this recolourable, so I'm going to finish my spaceships then tackle this. k?

iceatcs

recolourable is quite easy unless if you have right BMP format otherwise it won't work.
Why not using jonwil's dumper? to take the texture from any recolourable wood texture such as western town pieces

BMP format should be:
square power pixel size.
71 dpi resoltion
8 Bit Depth (256 colors)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v673/iceatcs/SupportTexture.jpg

you may can use it and tweak on photoshop if you want

Also Remember you have to set one color in the importer to enable recolourable.

Phil
01-08-2006, 11:55 AM
Oh I didn't realise what the dumper did. How do I set one colour in the importer? Is that when you select the texture and name it?

YAY! Recolourableness is achieved.

There are some slight mesh modifications needed but otherwise this object is finished!

Take the picture in 800x600 resolution with 16-bit colors. Don't use shadows, either. Then save the image as a GIF image. Upload the image now and it should not be resized.

What I would love to see is someone take the existing scenery of the game and make doors (open) or archways that can be set on paths and peeps walk through. That in itself would be awesome.
