I was looking into making custom scenery, but have no clue where to start. I want to use Milkshape. Can anyone help me get started? (Shyguy, Jonwil)
Will it be difficult?
How long will it take?
I know nothing about milkshape and modelling with it but I can help on things to do with the importer :)

Here's a link for an excellent tutorial for using Milkshape made by Whiteflash. It's for making a coaster car in the Ultimate Ride game, but will teach you virtually everything you need to know about using Milkshape, from making the model to making/applying the texture map. It's an 8 parter, but well worth the time it takes to read it.

That tutorial will get you started off in the right direction for sure. There are a few free 3D modeling programs out there, I haven't ever tried them, Milkshape has done everything I need it to. There are a lot of programs you can buy, Milkshape is very cheap $25.00 US & other programs can be as costly as Maya, which I believe is about $5000.00.

thanks froggee, how do i texture the model?
well you can get textures or pictures needed from google images I guess.
Basically, from wings you need to save as .wings file and then also export as a .OBJ which you then should take into www.uvmapper.com classic version. When you load the .OBJ it will tell you how to map it. You should map it using "box". You msut then export/save the uv cor-ordinated object and also export/save the uv map. Save it as the default size and then go into your image editor with the map and start playing around with it getting textures to where you want on the model. www.gimp.com is a free image editor like photoshop. Once finished texturing you msut then resize the image to 256x256 and then save as an 8bit bmp (256 bmp). Then, go to here (http://mirex.mypage.sk/index.php?selected=1) and download biturn. Convert the uv co-ordinated .OBJ file to .ASE and then all you have to do is use jonwils importer tutorial to start importing!

You use Biturn to convert the obj or whatever format the model is to the ase format. You don't need to change the bmp texture file.

Oh... Ok. It won't let me convert the obj to an ase either.
