http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax
If you are registered at turbosquid you can just login and download this for free.
Not sure how useful this will be, but I was looking to delve into gmax 1.2 today and found this as one of the few places where its still available online. Hope it helps.
P.S. they have other files for download if you scroll down that page like the help section files and manuals etc.
If this application can export to 3ds files or import them and save them as a stand alone 3d file, than I'll take a whack at making some scenery too.

Unfortunately, this software is useless for making scenery for RCT3, as you can't import it. It's too bad, cause it's a great program.
If Frontier would make a plug-in for RCT3, then it would be useable. That's what all the other game companies have done.

The gmax actually works very well with my video card unlike my TrueSpace 5.2
Oh man, its hard to find something. I might just get Max3ds, expensive but I have other modeling issues I have been wanting to do.

I installed gmax from my MSFS9 Extras cd and it says I need to go to the Autodesk website to get an authorization code. But they don't give them out anymore I don't think.
WHy won't Gmax work Shyguy? Can't you just export the file and then convert to .ASE? I used it once for The Sims 2 and that's not Gmax compatible?

Biturn doesn't support the format that Gmax exports to. It supports many of the formats that other game plug-ins for Gmax export to.
You could get another game plug-in. Use Gmax with that plug-in. Export it to the new format. Then use Biturn(if it supports that format). But it gets so messy and time consuming, it's not worth it.
I tried, but I still couldn't get it to a format that was supported by Biturn. I had to send it to Milkshape, convert to .3ds, and then use Biturn. Since it usually takes about a dozen tries to get it to look right in RCT3, I'd still be on my Main Street Set 1 if I used this method. (No, actually I would have given up completely!)

You could have saved it as a Milkshape ms3d file & converted with Biturn ;)

Is there a plugin avaiulable for milkshape. Cause I like gmax a lot, a great program.
You know, honestly if they would provide a 3ds export to this, I could see autodesk putting this out as a public consumer product. Kind of stupid they dont fanagle it a bit more for the public consumption and than put it out. They would make a mint.
Anyhow if there is a milkshape plugin for gmax that would be great to list here the link.
Snacko, if you get the Gmax thru Turbosquid they supply the key code in an email to authorize it. I suggest you download ts version than get their code thru your registration there. Once you do this, the Gmax app works just fine... I provided the link to their gmax page above in my first post. Good luck and hope it helps. Marnetmar's link to a milkshape plugin would be swell.
What would be even better is if Frontier could provide a Gmax plugin. Even though the app is no longer supported by autodesk, Frontier could make this a nicer thing for the users.......

You don't need any plug ins when using Milkshape, just save it as a ms3d milkshape file then convert to an ASE file with biturn, then import with Jonwil's importer program.

the gmax I have won't save that format marn. I think I need a plugin. I got this version off of turbosquids site.
Actually I needed to go back to my old Bryce 5 today to do some other work. Was sweet, Bryce is so easy to use....too bad they don't allow 3ds exporting. I thinks is .obp not quite sure.
But gmax feels pretty comfortable to me.
I think I can learn it fairly quickly. Just that I have begun authoring a brand new feature film play and than a novel manuscript to follow so I won't be around much the next few months to devote what I need to rct3, but after that, I should be gangbusters, and I will take a serious whack at some stuff for the community.
