Just wondering what everyones favorite cars are. When you reply state the car you wish you could own but probably never will, and then a realistic car you like. If you want you can also include the car that you actually own.
Fantasy Car: There are so many....McLaren F1 LM
Realistic Car: 2002 Camaro SS
Car I Own: 1990 Chevrolet Astro Van AWD (For hauling stuff mostly)
Car I Own: 2004 Dodge Neon SXT (Couldn't afford SRT-4 and plus it gets better gas milage)
Car I Own: 2002 Ford Taurus SES (Actually my Dad's car but we swap sometimes)

I really don't care about cars except as a means to get from point A to point B safely and comfortably. That said I own a 2002 Volvo V70 XC and I lease a 2005 Volvo XC 90. The V70 was the first car I ever bought off lease; I like it that much. The XC90 I'm not interested in keeping. It gets crappy gas mileage and it's been a bit buggy. Right when im sitting in traffic for an hour, I like to be comfy. When I go on 6+ hour car trips I like to be comfy.
So it has nothing to do with pen0r size. I drive an SUV because partly it makes me feel safe, and it has room. I am not a fan of gas mileage but meh what can ya do. I’ve seen plenty of econo boxes hit by SUV's and let me tell you they don’t fair up at all, so ill stick with this truck till I want a new one.
Secondly what most people forget to notice is not many people are within walking distance of anything, nor have public transportation worth anything. 25 miles (no bike routes, most are highways) and the closest public transportation is 17 miles away from my home. I might as well go the last 8 miles.
As for the topic on hand
Dream car would be Lotus or AM V12 Vanquish
Realistic Car.
2006 Nissan 350z (which I plan to get next year)
or
Ford F250 Diesel 4x4
or
Volvo XC90 (One of the best SUV's on the market now days)
Not the best vehicles for MPG (except the 250, that gets 22 combo mpg which is good for its size) but i could care less. I don’t buy starbucks coffee, or buy anything from a vending machine or retail store during the day. I figure the bucks I save there can more than fill my gas tank. I mean I know people that have 5 starbucks coffees a day ($25). That alone can fill me up for 3-4 days lol.

I worked for Lotus Cars, i'm a lotus nut. The primary reason why i adore Lotus Cars is because of it's background and purely the fact that i had the time of my life there .. learned alot.
They just don't build cars. They are one of the successful F1 teams and had some of the greats racing for them (Ayton Senna and Nigel Mansell).
They developed the aerodynamically optimised carbonfibre Lotus Sport bicycle, on which Chris Boardman rode and managed to secure a gold medal in the 4000 metre pursuit at the Barcelona Olympic Games in July 1992.
The army recruited Lotus in 1994 to develop active suspension and active track tensioning for the Scorpion tank; by keeping the Scorpion's body steady while on the move, improved its speed over rough terrain and created a more stable gun platform. Boats, trucks, buses and even microlights appear in the lotus portfolio.
Engineering list could go on and on.
They build cars that weight in at under a Tonne (very lightweight for a car), they are a 1.8 Toyota VVTI engine that can produce speeds of 140-145mph and 0-61mph in under 4.8 seconds. That, for the engine size (remember no intercooler or turbo) is fast. They handle better than most production cars on the road. Oh and did i forget that they are highly known for fantastic track day cars.
They built parts for the Aston Martin, Jag XJ220, Opel/Vauxhall Carlton + many more. Oh and potentially maybe a new Maclaren car (apparently).
See my facination lies more than trying to show off or impress the ladies into think anything what-so-ever. Not everyone wants to prove something with a car. Yes it is nice to own one and yes you'll be looked at but the same applies with anything material wise.
Oh and DW, you'll probably pick up a Lotus with some of the money you'd have for a 350z.

Right when im sitting in traffic for an hour, I like to be comfy. When I go on 6+ hour car trips I like to be comfy.
My sedan is quite comfy. I don't need a mobile living room for road trips.
Well, you might be out of luck then. The statistics, which I have posted before here, show that the least safe vehicle class is the pickup truck, followed closely by SUVs. This is expressed in the likelihood of a person being injured per mile driven, so it is normalized for all variable.
Why? Well, SUVs indeed survive accidents better, but if you're in more of them, even a lower injury per accident could lead you to be more likely to get hurt owning an SUV. Higher ccenter of gravity, larger blind spots, and Newton's conservation of momentum (especially on snow/ice) contribute to the much higher accident rate.
But the car salesmen, of course, will only tell you that you are more likely to survive an accident. Well, it's true, for what it's worth.
So, I'll stick with my sedan, which is quite comfy, far cheaper, far better gas mileage, AND is safer.
Not the best vehicles for MPG (except the 250, that gets 22 combo mpg which is good for its size) but i could care less. I don’t buy starbucks coffee, or buy anything from a vending machine or retail store during the day. I figure the bucks I save there can more than fill my gas tank. So you get off on big, over-powered, muscle cars. And you really want me to believe that fragile ego has nothing to do with it? I suppose it could be true, but I find it hard to believe that financial lunacy could be justified just by being a tech geek.
It's not a coincidence that there are a hugely disproportionate number of bald men driving sportscars. In fact, it is so cliche that it is SOP for the mid-life crisis. Right after dumping the wife for a younger woman, and right before piercing the nipple.
And younger men that do this have no insecurity issues? Right.
All bets are off for the very wealthy of course. For in that case, why not? But for most of us, the financial stupidity of over-investment in cars is probably associated with some other need. You may justify tens of thousands in the "guy toys" category, but again, I find it hard to believe. Call me a cynic.
I might also add that the strength of your protest, and the long, menaingless rant about high end engineering also supports the notion. Defensiveness tends to be unconvincing, after all.

I think I grew up in exactly the right decades, carwise anyway! :p I absolutely love the old muscle cars, with the huge v8's in them. I used to have a pickup with a 454 4barrel in it! It was the most fun thing to drive, NOT safe by most ideals, but a hell of a lot of fun! :D
Now, everyone is safety conscience and all into the gas mileage thing. Don't get me wrong, I like great mileage at these prices, too, but it does kinda take the fun out of cars. And....the new cars have so damn many safety devices on them that they are utterly ridiculous. I am NOT against safety, as such, but I want there to be room in the car for tunes, radar detector, ashtray/lighter, and cup holder.

Yeah the good old days. I had a friend that had a 69 GTO. It had dual walker mufflers that just rumbled and could go 160 miles an hour.
Once I drove a Dodge Charger with a 440 big block in it. Very nice. And I knew a guy that had a 71 Charger with a 426 Hemi a 2 Holley 4 barrels, 525HP. He got 4 miles to the gallon with it...

That has to be one of the smartest posts ever. Many cars are just a fusion of headlights and cladding. They should be a mix of engineering and art.

You may think that cars are ugly, but whilst there are people who agree with you, there are probaly many, many more who won't. It's all about personal opinion.

While I share Steely Glint's opinion on cars - I don't really care for them much myself, after all. I do however, prefer the older cars from the 40's and 50's style wise.
It's more of a retro look that I prefer really.

If you want to "see" the good old days again, come to eastern Wyoming. Some of the guys here have the cars they started rebuilding in the late '70's. It is not unusual to see a NICE '69 Charger, or a Roadrunner driving the streets. These guys have ranches, with huge barns, that they have kept these cars in, and worked on them, for 30+ years.

BTW, if anyone remembers me, I`m finally in Quebec. But, the move has turned into a weird dream. I`m in a library right now. I don`t want to say anything more about my situation however until next week. I hope moderators will allow me to have my own thread about my move to Quebec. It`s pretty funny. Some things are going to happen next week so that`s why I`m waiting to say what`s going on.

I'm a Firebird Fanatic so that's all I've ever had. This 1990 Firebird below was my first car. I got it for $5,000. The car had flood damage, so my uncle repaired the undercarriage. Then I took it to Maaco and got it repainted. I had it for 4 years; until I crashed it three years ago into a transformer. It was a great car; 295 horsepower and was very fun to drive.

['ear"]So you get off on big, over-powered, muscle cars. And you really want me to believe that fragile ego has nothing to do with it? I suppose it could be true, but I find it hard to believe that financial lunacy could be justified just by being a tech geek.
Get off? Stop being a ********. An ego doesn't have to play a part.
Overpowered? You call a 1.8 overpowered? This shows you know nothing, just like your whole entire ignorant point. You generalise because you don't know what you are talking about. People like cars for a number of reasons, some have general hobbies about cars, some design kit cars. The rest like it because of speed perhaps .. WHO GIVES A **** WHY? Someone doesn't have to be depressed, in the middle of midlife crisis or want to pick up girls.
It's not a coincidence that there are a hugely disproportionate number of bald men driving sportscars. In fact, it is so cliche that it is SOP for the mid-life crisis. Right after dumping the wife for a younger woman, and right before piercing the nipple.
Again more generalisation from you, you seriously know **** all.
And younger men that do this have no insecurity issues? Right.
More generalisation. Facts? Proof?
All bets are off for the very wealthy of course. For in that case, why not? But for most of us, the financial stupidity of over-investment in cars is probably associated with some other need. You may justify tens of thousands in the "guy toys" category, but again, I find it hard to believe. Call me a cynic.
For you and only you, don't talk for the rest of people based on your own opinion.
I might also add that the strength of your protest, and the long, menaingless rant about high end engineering also supports the notion. Defensiveness tends to be unconvincing, after all.
Meaningless? How would you know why i take pride and passion in a car brand? I've worked for a very well known sports car brand that grants me to say i know what i'm talking about, question is - do you? Seriously Tear, your defense as to why it's all meaningless is far more unconvincing and is all based on nothing but generalisation. Go discuss your politics instead.
I agree. I'm not saying retro is the only way to go, I'm just saying why do they have to be brightly coloured tin boxes?
All cars come in bright colours. All cars are tin boxes. You can get a VW Lupo in a bright green and purple. You can pick up a Honda Civic in bright metallic yellow.
As for the metal they are made out of. Perhaps the weight? Production cost? Many reasons. You just don't know what your on about :p.

i don't understand how you can call a Hemi Cuda Semi-Realistic!!! They are so rare people are paying around $1,000,000 for one. Here is an example i found----"The 426-HEMI option would remain, and the 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda convertible is considered one of the rarest and most desirable collectable automobiles in the world, with a recent example selling for over $2million dollars (US)."----and here is how rare they are----" Exactly 7 of these were made" so there you have it :p

I agree. I have friends that have the 60's mustangs and then i have friends with the newer mustangs. I think that the older ones are better, but it depends on the model and accessories added to the new ones. If you had a 2000 Stang with just a plain hood i would say a 60's mustang all the way, but if you have like a 2003-4 model with the hood scoop then i think that would be better ;)
The new Musangs are few and far between here in Australia, but my father used to own a '02 Mustang Saleen with the supercharger. Went like a freakin' rocket and it was an automatic 'box too! I believe it pulled 0-100 in 4.6-4.8 seconds, but they are not cheap cars in Australia.
The new Mustang in standard form sells for approximately $120,000 AUD.
I love the older Mustangs, sporty and awesome cruisers to get around in. They always turn heads down here too. If I had to pick between a new model and older one, I don't think I'd be able to. I'd have to try and find some way of having both. ;)

It is sitting in her garage, doing nothing, with no plates or anything, because she can't afford to restore it like she wants to. She was offered an incredibly huge amount of money for it, sight unseen, but she refused that too.
