Nope not even that. Countour, Escort or some other 4 banger that no one wants to modify.
Take it from me as well as the millions of other young drivers, you will wreck your car and the insurence company will hate you. And insurence will be $$$ to begin with. Having a sports car wont help.
Sure mom and pops may pay for it now, but when you have to pay $2100 bucks a year in insurence because you had a few tickets, or if you had a few accidents then it may be higher. Good luck paying that off with all the other debt.
I drive an exploer now. Its not worth much, if it gets into a fender bender it wont be damaged much if at all, and it doesnt have enough engine to kill me. Plus doing anything over 80 mph scares the crud outta ya. Im 23 now and when I get my first sport car im going to be 25 more than likely. Already wrecked/totaled 1 car about 4 years ago. And my rates was about $1250 right now. Had a year or 2 of $1450 ;)

Thanks, it flies like a bat out of hell, good ol' 3.0L six under the bonnet.
Haven't really hammered it hard, it's done about 8,000kms now. Fastest I have been is 140km/h on a twisty road through the mountains.

I don't believe all young drivers will write off sports cars, especially those that have undergone extensive driver training and are taught to respect powerful cars. I'm 21, I have driven some very powerful cars and have never had an accident. I've been driving cars since I was 14 and riding motorcycles since I was 12.
I gotta say, you do benefit from experience with motorcycles when you jump behind the wheel of a sports car.
I haven't even scraped the paint on anything... yet. ;)
I don't understand the fascination with WRXs, Skylines or Supras. Personally, I'd take the rumble from a V8 over anything else.
how old are you? and if your parents let you get asupra, they letting you live out a death wish...go with an acura integra, great cars

I'm not stupid enough to get a sports car for my first. I'll probably get a $1000 peice of crap. Once I save up some money I'll buy a Supra most likely. Not until I'm atleast 25 though. I want some driving experience before I buy a car that sweet.

230 BHP from a 1600cc - But I ain't finished yet
I never said the Supra was going to be my first car... Just that if I can't get the Corvette then I'd get the Supra.
We are also saying that the car will own you. Supra's come in some different varients and there are ALOT of different ones. Even the Mk4 SZ (Non turbo ones) have a top speed of 143mph while pushing out 225BHP. Thats alot especially when the car is quite heavy.
This is just the Non turbo and not even modified.
Most people don't get there realistic dream cars until they are OLD, which is why most stereotypes about midlife crisis come from. Insurance creates the biggest problem for the younger generation wanting big sports cars, the older you are the lower the insurance which is why typically older men have fast cars unless the younger generation earn enough money or whatever.

I bought my maroon Saturn brand new in 1995 and still have it to this day. It is fairly easy to work on and only requires routine maintenance. The only major part I have replaced in 10+ years is the alternator! I will post a pic of it when I get a chance but you probably already know what it looks like anyway. :p

So I am either going to be looking for a Eclipse GSX *I PROMISE, I won't put a body kit on it* or my parents 96 Triple Black Mustang GT convertible *which I'm driving for the time being*. And I must say to both bbshepp, that is one NICE escort.

http://www.hardtoport.com/gsr2.jpg
It's a 1996 Civic DX (on my insurance card... haha) with a 1997 JDM B18C1 engine. It has a (cheap) short ram intake, 4-2-1 ceramic headers, catco high-flow catalytic converter, and a Magnaflow cat back exhaust with resonator. The suspension is made up of Eibach pro springs over KYB 2 gas shocks. The doors (the fun part), swing up easily on Decah hinges. You get a lot of strange looks with vertical doors on a civic. Plus you can park in very thin spaces :). Also has 17" OZ Chrono Evolution wheels with Kumho ecsta supra 712 tires.
Inside, it just has a white-backed EX gauge cluster (with tach), short-throw shifter. The rest is all stock.
The sound system consists of a Clarion motorized head unit (forget the model), MB Quart 6x9 speakers powered by MTX amp, and a 12 inch eclipse aluminum cone subwoofer built into the floor of the trunk, powered by a separate MTX 6500D amp.
It's fun to drive. There's a lot of work I want to do to it, new headlights, modest spoiler, modest body kit etc, but I'm getting married in July, and I won't have time for a project car anymore.

Nope not even that. Countour, Escort or some other 4 banger that no one wants to modify.
I take exception to that comment. I have a '99 SVT Contour that I want to modify, just can't find room in the budget for that right now. It already ran a 1/4 mi. of 15.59 @ 90 m.p.h. on a 90 degree, humid day here in Ohio.http://www.cardomain.com/ride/384689/4 yeah, red x. just right click, properties, cut and paste URL if you want to see it. :o

Mind if I come and steal a couple things off your car? Such as intake and throttle body?.... and while I'm at it, the heads. :)
But on a side note, do you ever check out the Contour forums?

I'll hafta borrow a friends digital cam and snap a few of mine. I have an 05' eclipse remix, 6 spd evo 7 conversion, rear rotors from the v6, running slotted rotors, 13 pounds through a custom machined internal wastegate, dynos 326 brake, so I'm happy, I autocross so it does what I need lol. Think my friend has one of my auto crossing so i'll see about getting that up. nice beemers btw, was gonna get a 99' m3 when I got the eclipse, but the eclipse has a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty lol, that I've already voided but oh well.

You bought a 360 CORE system?!........W-H-Y?
lol, just messin with ya man, but seriously, why did you opt for that one? They are a waste of money.
Your ride is OK. I like the car, and I like the big tires, but I think the rims look HORRIBLE. They are cool rims, I like the "spoke" style, but on your particular car they just look wrong, they are too "open. The car body looks huge and the rims look flimsy, like a 400lb man with toothpick legs. Something a little "fuller" would look much better. Even the same style just with thicker, or more, spokes.

I'm sorry, but if ANY pics look photoshopped in this thread it's that one. The shadows look messed up, the car is brighter and crisper than the backround, yet they are too close together for it to be a natural blur (like a clear close subject and a blurry far away backound), and most importantly, the reflections in the car are of a BUILDING, yet the picture "was taken" in what looks like a path through the WOODS. Plus, the trees in the picture form a "canopy" of sorts over the walkway, yet the reflections on the car show a clear sky, and it looks like a WALKWAY, or bike path through a forest or park, yet the car is positioned to where it matches up like it's a road, meaning that car is disporportionate, it's too small (if the picture were real)

I got the core off ebay the first week they came out. If you think back, It should come to your brain that it was hard to get your hands on a 360 if you didn't pre-order, like myself.

I think your rims are hawt.
Would love to own a Mustang, they're overpriced down here in Australia. More of an exotic, 'luxury' car for those whom want something different to a Boxster, SLK, Z4, etc.
I've been looking at GTs and the new Shelby GT500 in Britain. A left hook Muzzie over there (GT) will set me back around $40,000 add $15,000 for RHD conversion and export and I'm set up. To buy one locally, I'd be parting with $125,000 as opposed to $55,000 for one that's only travelled 2,000 miles.
Really, really love the new Muzzies. I guess my Dad's (long since sold) Supercharged Mustang Saleen and the older classic Mustangs started my love affair with 'em. I hope to get back in the saddle within the next year or two. :)
I just hope the build quality isn't stereotypically American and vastly improved over the previous generation!

OK there killer, calm down.
First off, I was JOKING about the core system, hence the "lol".
Second, it is my OPINION that your rims look weird on the car. By "big" tires I meant 20 + inches, not big WALLS on the tires. I said they look bad because there is too much open space, again, in my OPINION, if the car were black it would look different, because the body of the car wouldn't look so big, but since the car is silver the body itself looks huge compared to the tiny "spokes" on the rims. I could care less if you get "lots of compliments in person", it doesn't mean it's the greatest thing ever. I wasn't being a dick, I was giving my opinion, maybe "horrible" was the wrong choice of words, but if you can't take some constructive criticism then **** you too........"noob"

Exactly man. By me saying I didn't like his rims didn't mean he should run out and buy rims I liked, but I got jumped all over for it. All I was saying was I personally didn't like em, but if he likes 'em, that's all that matters, he's driving the car not me. So want a 350z, cant wait the next 6 months its going to be to get her :(
But I should have a 2006 or 2007 by the end of this year, or the start of next year. Within that time frame :D Also it depends of the 2007 add anything new or improve at all.
2006 for the 350z had a good deal of updates, but sadly one of those updates incured about 200-380 pounds of extra weight :( So when it comes to it I may go for an 04 or an 05 and supercharge it :D

I didnt dig the rims much either at 1st but they grew on me. plus they came w/ the car. There are American Racing rims that were discontinued in 2001 so i thought i keep them since no one else can real get them w/ out going to some1 that had them and buying them. $3000 and a set of 16 inch AR rims w/ Dunlop tires whose going to complain.
The 305 is could u still get power just not as much as a 350 plus w/ this i can go 220 miles on a tank of gas where if i had the 350 id probaly barly be able to go 100 miles b4 filling her up.

They won't have one of these on there.... but i'm sure something with that engine type will be, 350, 4 barrel edelbrok carb, performer rpm intake, cammed, custom s-10 v-8 headers (had to go around the steering shaft), custom 2 and a half inch true dual exaust system with 3 and a half inch magnaflow stainless steel tips. turbo 350 ****** with a B/M shifter. Sonar 505's low profile 245 by 50, or 55r 16's, can't remember which, with half inch spacers on IROC 16" rims. (Notice the none of my chrome is shining, it's really dirty in the pictures as far as dust and dirt build up go) Drawl backs, no power steering or air conditioning unit due to engine bay room. Soon to add 5 inch cowl hood, posi, bed cover, and a nice black paint job.

This is my family's 1999 Ford Mustang GT with a 5 spd manual. Only modification is a K&N Cold Air Intake Kit. I've driven it. It feels very powerful compared to my 3.8L automatic transmission 1995 Mercury Sable LS. It sounds awesome too. Awesome burble.

We also own this 1996 Jaguar XJ6 that we purchased off from Ebay. Lots of power and torque from the inline six cylinder 245 hp motor. Haven't gotten beaten by anything yet. Got a good deal

I'm not sure if I am included in the "nice car" category but our cars look more expensive than they are. I guess there are a few different ways to acquire nice cars. Aside from being being rich:
1) You can go into huge debt buying nice cars
2) You can buy the cars when they have depreciated a ton
My family does the second option.
My dad, my brother, and I scope out fast, expensive cars and track their depreciation over time. In the case of the Jaguar, we ended up with a $65,000 car for quite a bit less than that buying it 9 years old. I don't really talk finances with strangers (or anybody really) but my mom bought the car with cash and she's a middle school Spanish teacher (wrap your brain around that one). My dad has a rather modest job as a draftsman too. If you know how to save, you can do a lot of things. The Jag still runs like a champ, and the mileage wasn't that high. It's also kinda cool because the value of the car has actually gone up since we purchased it. We're hoping to upgrade to an XJ8 in the near future. The same is actually true for the Mustang. The only part of that which is frustrating is that we want to buy another Mustang GT (an automatic -- my dad has a 37 mile commute in rush hour) now because we like it a lot and the prices have gone up.

Well they are Pontiac GTO's. Not a Holden, and yes the GTO and Holden share alot of the same parts because they are both built down under in the same factory.
Why wouldn't i buy 2 of these cars. Whats not to love about them? They have 400 horsepower V8's from the factory. 6 speed trannies. They run 4.5 seconds from 0-60 mph and 12.9 in the 1/4 mile... all from the factory. And you can seat 4 adults VERY comfortably. They are also a very rare vehicle. They only made 11,000 GTO's in 2005... mine are 2006's and the numbers aren't out yet but they are lower then the 2005's. And 2006 was the last year they are making the GTO's. From 2004 - 2006. GTO RIP.
Thats why i bought 2 of them. Rare, fast, and comfortable.

Both of them are all stock right now. When the factory warrranty ends, thats win the playing begins.
BTW, very nice Barracuda. You don't see those anymore. What does that thing run in the 1/4?
Pontiac GTOs are Monaros, you'll probably find the only difference between them is the nose plastic. The HSV model pictured above, being an older model and not fitted with the vents on the bonnet.

Your father owns a Ferrari, yet you all chose to buy from David McDavid?
That's a terrible mistake. They're pricing is ridiculous compared to Classic, Advantage, Autoplex, BMW of Austin, and BMW of Dallas. All of those dealers have much more offers and better packages to buy from used.
But I too have a 3 Series, 330Ci Conv. with a Performance PKG. After we lose it Dec. 2007, we'll probably end up with something with a little more performance.

Love BMW's and don’t get me wrong there nice cars (And I have the ability to get them at cost). But for the money I can get something better, and not be asked to get my euro-trash of the road. People in the Dallas area have real problems with richy type cars.
FYI for your sake and not to get flamed else where. Don’t say the BMW is yours, and don’t say daddy bought it for you. Its just a bunch of grief to be had. Personally even if I had the money I would never give a kid a car worth more than $10k. Because its just going to end up in the shop because they didn’t know what to do, or they did something stupid.
When I go to where my dad works (Classic BMW) I see it all the time. Im not being mean, hell if you wreck it more than likely Classic BMW will get the job so kuddo's. But ive seen way to many nice BWM's destroyed with dad in disbelieve.
Currently there’s an 2005 M3 that someone decided to ramp it off a hill. 24k in damage later it’s sitting in the shop. The kid is 17 and the car is now in for the 4th time. The time before he lost control around a corner and taped his car against the guard rail doing 10k in damage.
I’m sorry all new drivers suck, I sucked. I’m glad I only had a 5k car. Because well it ended up getting totaled because I got into a situation that I had never been in before. My insurance went up like a rocket because I did a total of 12k of damage between my car and the other persons car. Now I have never seen a BMW come in with less than 7k of damage ;) So keep that in mind. When we first drive where dumb, and we do dumb things.
This wasnt a personal attack, more less of trying to open the eyes so to speak. So anything dumb in that car and yours going to regret it more so than if it was a junker car. Currently I have a 95 Explorer. I am saving for a very nice car next. If something happens to the explorer ill be sad but I wont be taking it up the ...... from the insurance.
If you live in Dallas try not to pev off any white explorers :P *jokes* Just remember just because you have a BMW the turn blinker isn’t broken. I know most owners think they are, but I assure you they work. Also just because you have a BMW it doesn’t mean you own the road, and its all about you. I know when you pick up the car, they teach you this, and it may very well be in the hand book. But I again assure you it isn’t true. If you take these ideas that are taught to you when you get a high end car and throw them out the roof then you should be good.
Just be nice to the car, while im sure the shops will welcome the business, you don’t want to see the bill. Sure insurance may pay for it upfront but they have you for years and can get it back :D
*This reminds me to apply for insurance companies, they cant lose money thus no layoffs :D )

I dont know what was up with the floor plates. Its an old dealer pic.
I was referring the to platers.
Usually, dealers don't tend to sell cars with another dealer's plates on it. I would actually expect the McDavid plates to be gone.
But yes, I do. I live in Plano.
Dark, please don't generalize all us young Dallas drivers as bad drivers. I'm 19, I learned to drive in a Porsche 944 Turbo S with my father. I had a 3KGT VR4 as a first car. I don't have it because some teenage girl in a Ford Explorer managed to back up onto the hood, leaving the biggest d*mn dent you ever saw, and amazingly, damaged the left spring in the front.
My friend, Kelly was given a BMW as a graduation present. Her car has no problems. It's only time in the shop has been for checkups and when her father tells her.
I own 2 BMWs. A '98 M3, and a '05 330Ci Conv. You say young drivers usually have their cars in the Classic shop? Which kids are these you're talking about cause I rarely see kids with their fathers. I'm a young adult, and guess what? My 3-Series hasn't been in the shop because I did something stupid, bud. The last 2 times were checkup. The 2nd was because the service shop scratched my right rear wheel, and part of the wheel arch. My M3 is only in the shop due to its age. Not because I have a M3 and I think I'm king of the road. Um no, here in Plano, that job apparently belongs to the oversize Ford/Chevrolet/Dodge pickups and SUVs.
So, try not to say I have big problem cause I don't. I drive very well for my age, hell I've autcrossed before. Many of my neighbors own expensive cars. We do not think we're kings of the Dallas roads.
DarkWorlds
07-15-2006, 04:43 AM
I wasn’t generalizing all young Dallas drivers, I said all young drivers and included my self in the comment. So I don’t say I was any better than any other young driver on the road at my young age. Secondly I didn’t point to you, I was more less pointing the 16 year old.
You said you where in an accident, I can bet the age of the person that ran into you (but you already gave that away). Young drivers suck arse 99.9998% of them. I don’t care what they drive, they suck, I sucked. We all sucked. Can you honestly say you driving is the same now as it was when you where 16? Can you honestly say you didn’t pull something completely stupid and lucked out? If so congrats, if not I don’t see where the defense of bad drivers at young ages comes from. Would you honestly give a 35k car to a random 16 year old and expect nothing to happen? Heck I was a A+ student most of my school career, drove since I was 12 in my dads old cars. Took class at 15, and then did a year of driving till I was 16 to get my POS of a car. And yet at that age I pulled more stupid stunts (or what I call stupid stunts now days, running up on people, cutting in front of semis’s) in 1 week than I have in 2 years now. I saw a girl with a brand new permit run into the sidewalk (put half the car over it) today. Where dumb at a young age, and don’t take things correctly
*edit*
Subtracted about a page of useless comment… it was late and I trailed off into something completely different
As for high end cars joke. Well on avg on my trip (423, 121, Denton Tap, 635, Freeport, then return same path) I see more high end cars not use blinkers over people in lets say an Kia. And when it comes to people not recognizing there’s people behind them, or just plain not doing the speed limit in general its a high end car. Finely not yielding is a big one.... they tend to forget that people coming off a highway has the right of way, want to watch, sit at off ramp near the bmw dealership and you will see how these people wreck there cars. I am in that shop every now and then and its mazes me for BMW's not having that big of a market (yes if you go to a ford, or gm repair place, you will see tons more per numbers but there’s tons more of them) how many of the owners manage to wreck them.
Ive spoken to most people that own high end cars, and they get the joke, and have even said it to be true. My uncle who is in the process of getting the new 6 series (I hope M but oh well) said when reserving on “Does this come with turn signals” and they both cracked up. Even the sales person got it. I guess you have to look at it in a different light. Its not insulting at all, its comical. Does it tell you anything about the person that drives, nope. He may be busy, may have just forgotten in that turn. Or may have felt that the nearest person to him was far enough away and doesn’t need to know because it cant effect them. Its not an insult, more less a joke. People laugh at the explorers because they flip, the fold Exploder was coined because of that. Heck U-Haul will not even allow you to rent to trailer if you own a 95-00 explorer in fear of the spontaneous rollovers apparently. All cars, and groups have there pokes. Most pokes on avg can be true to an extent. So to take offence, should not be the issue.
All people have accidents no matter the age group. All the facts ill admit to. But then you have to admit 99.998% of young drivers suck (due to lack of knowledge, not intelligence or skill), and people in high end cars do act differently. Although I will admit they don’t think there indestructible, ill leave those up to most of the truck/SUV drivers, again I feel you may agree with.
I’m just stating facts I see, and your more than welcomed to take that path I do every morning. I get most of this info just running up Denton Tap rd. in Coppell. Keep in mind while I have said a statement on 2 items, I have also included my self in both items now. So im not saying im better. I am just thinking that most people (feel free to do a survey) would think a BMW is a bit much for a new driver, because there new. If the new driver drives the car try not to be stereotypical with the car they drive.
As for not seeing the sons and fathers in the shop, well yeah ya don’t. But it’s the contents in the car that gives it away. “Class of 2004” at some high school is a dead giveaway to who’s car it is. It’s not snooping its nothing to find out about the person. Its what sits own in plain view (g/f fixed to the windshield) it what normally gives away the car owners. Mine has tech magazines, newspapers, and a soda can in the holder. That’s normally early to mid 20’s look. I guess ive been around other peoples cars to long in my life that I can generally pick out the owner without even opening a door, and I guess ive seen and studied the accidents enough to see who is generally at fault just by looking at the twisted metal.
So I think that answered the questions, and solved a few issued you had. I try to be reasonable by not attacking someone or group without generally including my self with it, or atleast poking my self a few times. Its only fair after all.
This has become a pretty interesting thread to observe. It is sad, but it is true, that young people are generally involved in more accidents than older people. Generalisations aside, that is not always the case.
I'm 22, own two cars and pay for the costs involved, registration, insurance, etc. and have never had an accident. Ever. I know I will eventually be involved in one, but all I can do really is just be careful. My first car was extremely powerful '84 Ford Falcon XE Utility (think El Camino) with 454BHP. After which I moved to a '96 C200 Mercedes and a '99 CLK230 Kompressor. I'm now onto two Bimmers, which I'm loving and enjoying (even though their maintenance costs are more than the Mercs). I also worked within a dealership when I was 19, where I was driving Ferraris, Lamboghinis, Porsches, Mercs (AMGs) and BMWs, which taught me to respect the power some of these cars possess. The second you don't respect them, they bite you in the ass. Also, with such power comes responsibility, which sounds like a cliche, but rings true with any sports car. Because you can thunder the quarter mile in twelve seconds, this doesn't give you the licence or the right to act like a hoon on public roads.
I'm not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination and these types of cars cost no less than twice the amount they do in the USA. I spend all my money on my cars, them being my passion and they damn near demand all of my money. Unfortunately, prospective girlfriends prefer money being spent on them rather than cars, so that hasn't helped me much.
I've been on the receiving end of those lane-changing jokes when I was driving a Mercedes down here, not so with my BMW. Pretty funny, I guess some things are universal, eh?
For the record, I always indicate before changing lanes or turning. ;)
Edit:
Just read Dark's post, my Z4 has economics textbooks on the passenger seat and a mobile hands-free sprawled out on the floor, sometimes even a receipt. I never actually though about identifying the owner by the contents on the seats and on the dash, etc. I guess I'm too busy perving on the car?

Well I have a Ford F-150....its nice, its simple, hey its black! I turn 16 in August, and I will only have to drive it for abou 4 months or so. For Christmas they are talking about either giving me my mom's Jeep and buying her a Tahoe, or buying me a used tahoe (around a 98 if I get the Z71 version)
This is the F-150 Im driving right now

Just a quick question from an Englishman!
I've been to the US many times and have always wondered why so many people drive pick up trucks (F-150, F-350, etc), yet they don't seem to be carrying around anything in the rear?
I remember once in Chicago when a huge F-350 truck pulled up with tinted windows and a tiny old lady struggled out of the drivers door. I was amazed that she could reach the brakes!
Are the pickup trucks tax exempt when purchasing, (classed as a commercial vehicle)?
SVT_MAN
07-16-2006, 07:04 PM
Pickup trucks around here are generally personal transportation .. and they are not tax write offs generally -- unless they are classified as a business purchase. (Some people cheat the ever-confusing tax code as well -- but in general they aren't tax exempt.) Basically, the answer is no. For some reason, a lot of Americans like trucks even if they don't use them.
My girlfriend owns a 2004 Ford F-250 Superduty but she actually tows a horse trailer with it so I can't fault her. She basically signed her life away to work by purchasing it, but she did it ..

Pontiac GTOs are Monaros, you'll probably find the only difference between them is the nose plastic. The HSV model pictured above, being an older model and not fitted with the vents on the bonnet.
This is not true. You don't seem to know alot about the GTO's. The Monaro CV8-Z not only looks different, but also has a different motor then the GTO. 2005 was the last year of the monaro. The 2005 CV8-Z had a 5.7 liter 350hp motor. The 2005 Pontiac GTO had a 6.0 liter 400hp motor. The monaro's never offered a 6.0 liter 400hp.
Now Holden is offering a GTO. Hmm interesting. It comes with a 6.0 liter 400hp motor now. Coping the Pontiac's version of the GTO. I guess it doesn't really matter, Holden/HSV is owned by GM and so is Pontiac. Its all the same company.

Interesting reads going on here with the whole "young people are bad drivers". I have to agree here and say that we all sucked at one time. I was raised with sports cars/bikes all around me and I so I didnt suck terribly when I was 16 but there were situations that I had never been involved in which caused me to have a couple close calls.
As mentioned above I have a 93 mustang (my baby) and a new Jeep Wrangler. I cant wait to pay off that damn jeep because it sucks ass...breaks all the time. I will never buy another american car unless its a classic or specific year ranges of mustangs (I am a mustang addict).
I am really considering selling my Jeep and going after a late 90's M3 or something similar. I really dont feel like dropping big dollars on daily driver cars anymore so that I can invest more money in my toys.

The 6.0L LS2 has been available in Australia for quite some time, in both Monaros (HSV) and Commodores. Regardless, motors aside, the cars are pretty much identical. It isn't a bad thing, I'm just pointing out that it is really a Monaro, which has an equally rich heritage from the muscle car era in Australia.
The HSV GTO is second highest in the range, the heart stopper is the HSV GTS Coupe. I believe we have quite a few of them set up as highway patrol cars here.
Holden is the only division of GM not in financial trouble. ;)

I think you are confused with the LS1 not the LS2. The LS1 is a 5.7 liter, which has been around since 1998. The LS2 was developed 1 year ago and put in the New C6 2005 Corvette and 2005 GTO. The LS2 has not been out for some time. The 2005 Monaro had the LS1 5.7 liter, not the LS2, this includes any prior monaros also. Even the HSV GTS coupe that you speak of only has the LS1 5.7 liter, again not the LS2.
I'm not confused with the two engines, I'm aware of the differences and releases. Unfortunately, the Holden range doesn't rest solely upon Monaros for sales, the Commodore SS and HSV Clubsport R8 and higher have all been equipped with the LS2 for quite some time, since May 2005. Over a year, in my opinion, is quite some time.
Nevertheless, I believe the HSV GTS, the range topper, is no longer being produced. More of a rare vehicle, I suppose. As a result, it never received the engine upgrade, but if production continued, it would have had higher power output than the HSV GTO.
The best Monaro, in my opinion, was the HRT427 which was able to out accelerate a Lamboghini Gallardo. There's even an AWD version, dubbed the Coupe4, which is being exported to the UK under the Vauxhall badge.
Here's a relatively good summary of the Monaro's life, if you're interested:

My first car... an '86 LeBaron GTS. It sat in a yard, never started or moved for 7 years before I got it. Took me 3 months to restore it to running condition, using nothing but a couple wrenches... would have been easier w/ proper tools. It died when the brakes quit working on me, and I shot right through an intersection....
http://clemsonscc.com/mediagallery/mediaobjects/orig/7/70a35fe5b7677981aa089acabf96869b.jpg
My second car... a '94 Chevy Cavalier... I hated this car. I tried to kill it... it kept on running, and running, and running. Finally, I sold it, and it's still probably running strong, even after I abused it so badly.
http://clemsonscc.com/mediagallery/mediaobjects/orig/d/d17142e15d9ac0943eca8bcc777c9627.jpg
My third car... the love of my life, the thorn in my flesh. A '92 Dodge Stealth R/T. An incredibly fast, extremely fun Grand Touring car! Cost a fortune in upkeep, sadly I had to let it go after only 6 months of ownership.
http://clemsonscc.com/mediagallery/mediaobjects/disp/6/650ec55d71a1d50ff0e15938857a4910.jpg
My current car... some idiot recently pulled out in front of me at an intersection... in a industrial sized dump truck... busted up the front end pretty bad... it has frame damage. They are trying to fix it... but I don't have high hopes that it'll ever be like it used to be. An Orange Blast '05 Dodge Neon SXT w/ an MTX transmission. I didn't like this car much either... was planning on selling it before it got wrecked... now I just hope they end up totalling it. This is a stock photo... mine had an SRT-4 spoiler on the back, but otherwise the same... aside from the newly aquired front impact damage.

Its nice to see some down to earth cars along with all the impressive more high enders; and mommy and daddy bought cars. Really suprsied more of you don't have Cardomain pages (some do I see). I myself drive a 1988 Dodge Raider 4x4, also know as Mitsubishi Montero, Mitsubishi Pajero, Mitsubishi Shogun, and many other titles.
These 1st generation Montero's are usually referred to tanks, and I have proven this. My list of destruction includes hitting and driving OVER a fire hydrant, and sadly impailing a deer (had to pry it off with a hammer) on the bumper mounts. Thanks to the fire hydrant the bumper sits in the yard. So far I have invested about 4k in repairs, wish that all could have gone to modifications. What little modifications I have done:
BOSS MP3/CD Player w/ Remote
Combo Boxes w/ woofers and tweeters
235/75R15 Mohave Tires (2 inches bigger than stock but still not great)
Coated Rims in a polyurathane (sp?) black coating
Bosch Quad Platinum Spark Plugs
Bosch Wires and Distributor Cap/Rotor
(since these pictures some of the deer damage such as the grille peice missing etc have been fixed via Ebay for about $100 total)

I was 'taking the piss', the 356 had a top speed of approximately 120km/h. Porsches are not crap cars though, I have nothing but the utmost respect for them and when I do get rid of my Bimmers, I'll be going Porsche. They've been stickin' it to Lambo and Ferrari for quite some time with no more than six cylinders.
I'm starting to save for a 997 Carerra, I love the look of them. :)

Thanks for the comments about my Raider XR8. It has currently 224k miles on it, and its still going strong (after a transmission replacement, clutch rebuild kit, and new slave&master cylinders for the clutch).
As far as Porsches go, they are good cars; far from crap. Firemaster is 13, and his parents bought him his own (says at the bottom of the post his paint is darker...). I really don't see level headed parents buying a 13 year old a porsche to just sit around. But hey it is possible, either way its a mommy and daddy bought car.
And congrats to you moparforlife for being an illegally driving 14 year old. And this Barracuda you have, I seriously doubt you bought it yourself with money made from a real job (not an allowance or working for your parents). This is considering you are just now becoming of legal working age, and that is with a working permit. And as far as the whole illegal driving thing goes, I drove till I was 18 (from the age of 14) without a license. Got in a reck totalling my mom's car, I was lucky that I got it dropped in court by going and getting my license. You may not be so lucky driving un-insured without a license.
So its really not something to boast about to everyone and anyone. And being only 1 year older than firestarter I don't really see where you have any room to say anything. Its basically the pot calling the kettle black.

Yeah, that's pretty much what we all thought. It's getting a little annoying to see you put everyone else's cars down, and talk like your Barracuda is a god above them though given the fact, your Barrarcude would probably have the hardest time racing anything like an Enzo or FXX on a strip. There's absolutely no point in comparing them on the race course either.

We may also be ignoring the fact, according to the image in his avatar, that his car a bloody modified dragster! Further, I do not like those statistics in that link, I doubt very much that three 1960's muscle cars can outaccelerate a W16 Veyron over the 1/4 mile. Things make it all suspect? The fact the Veyron has double the horsepower and AWD.
How does it go? Give an Enzo a 19 second head start, and the Veyron will beat it to 200km/h.

Only thing that I would swap on an 89 is the 89 grille style for the 88 and prior. It may be just me but I like the horizontal lines vs the boxed mesh look. Personally mine has racked up 224k miles, but I have had to dump about 4k into it with replacing the tranmission, clutch assembly, and slave/master cylinder for the clutch. Hope to see some pics up soon from ya :D !

Sorry man I'm not that into cars, but that looks really cool. I've owned 3 Nissan's now and always wanted a Sylvia imported. That is a Nissan right, or am I thinking of the BlueBird? Hell, I don't feel like looking it up!!

rumors is the Sylvia is coming back, to be the car under the 350z thats more affordable.
So there sports world will be
1. Skyline
2. 350z
3. Sylvia
I hope that wouldnt increase the cost of the Z to make it more middle of the pack.

Father owns a 1997 Trans Am with Ram Air intake with K&N filter and SLP Exhaust system... Total attention getter, cops turn their heads behind their backs to see if they can pull you over for anything.
Mother owns a 1966 Mustang with a rebuilt 287 with a new paint job and custom ghost side pin stripping... I'll forever miss Carborated motors.
