How to make ur own path design????

Ok this might sound really dumb lol....but I've seen everyone's work and am still not sure on how to create your own design of some sort of a path, where you make your own....is there something I need to download to do so? Like a program (e.i. a path designer tool)?

you have to use milkshape or skecth-up or things like they. theyre custom scenery creators. im not sure, but if you want to get them, they cost money and are probably at program.com (insert whatever program into the program part)
