I don't know why, but my Linux UT download speed is slow as hell it take approx a minute for me to download 2 mb (even on LAN). I still can remember my window times when UT was downloading up to 20 mb in the same time from internet. Is there some kind of weird setting in config files? Help me please!!!

First off, I know very little about Linux, so I won' analyze your problem from that perspective. But I have played UT since it's inception, and can't ever recall changing settings to get better downloads, so it's likely not anything with UT. If you are using 56K, that could be a source of problem, or it may simply be cable/dsl related. Make sure your cable or dsl modem is working properly, may want to do a ping test in DOS, can't recall the command offhand, but you could call your ISP. If you can't figure it out, would suggest a new modem.
That said, I have read about Linux on this board on and off and it's nothing but bad things man:cool: Other stuff you may want to check out, firewalls--best you keep them off. Background programs, keep these to a minimum as they can hamper your download time--msconfig.exe under run, uncheck everything you don't use. Beyond that, could be an issue with your lan, bottleneck, try connecting directly to the internet without it, see what happens. Those downloads you mentioned are very slow so it has to be assumed it has nothing to do with the game itself, at least you can eliminate that with a fair degree of certainty.

no, sry toddist. i have a 2mbit connection at home. it works perfectly. everything is fine but the ut dl speed. It is a problem of linux UT version. Since i am using linux i have no tools like msconfig. ^^ But i can be very sure about my current system configuration.

are you hosting, or is it purely when you are joining games... is it all serverS?

Forgot to add in last post, try a spyware remover also, could be slowing things up, just don't know based on info. You seem savvy so I'm assuming this angle is covered.

It's the current problem when i am joining servers.
Yep. It is not easy to find a spyware which would work on linux since linux can't execute .exe files on its own. And even if, i am behind a hardware router...

no re-direct and/or compressed files on the server? what speed is it downloading at?
even on LAN if there is no re-direct or compressed files it takes a stupidly long time to get the files. several mins for a 2mb file
thats my input
