Warning: Frightning Download Size Ahead..
Screamworx is a LARGE set, covering a number of different styles. Fans of traditional haunted houses, or gore hounds should hopefully find something to their liking. Of course, many of the objects can be used for other ideas outside of the realm of darkness (though I wouldn't recommend sticking a chainsaw smack in the middle of a scenic outdoor cafe). The castle brick set includes basic building blocks, but is not meant to be an "all out" wall set, as my focus was to get a little bit of everything, otherwise this would be called Castleworx. I figured I’d mention that before someone asks “if only you included a draw bridge, and matching dormers”.
Download the self-extracting installer (exe), or the manual (zip) file.
Once again, this is a large set. If an item gives you an error, you may want to reinstall it, as the installer may choke during extraction. Each and every item was tested rigorously, and the finished product was installed countless times without and problem.
SceamWorx was tested with the US version of RCT3 w/Soaked and Wild installed. I cannot tell you how it will work if one or both expansion packs are not present.

Valuable Tips and Other Things You Should Know:
http://www.trackworx.com/ringskull.jpgApparitions have one side, and are designed with the standard wall attributes. Move your Apparition in and out to determine which side the surface will show. These haunts are transparent, and work best with nearby lights. You can change the density of the transparency by simply stamping the same apparition over itself a number of times. PLEASE NOTE, Apparitions and Spider Webs may sometimes make walls and other scenery behind it transparent as well (giving a forever transparent result). This is a random placement issue. Just tinker around with your positioning (like placing them down in different order) of transparent props, as well as objects/walls behind, and for some reason, it will eventually work. This is one of those mysteries like the modder's Glass problem, though at least this works most of the time.
http://www.trackworx.com/ringskull.jpgWhen designing around the Chandelier, keep other "night light" objects at a safe distance. Any close lights, candles, torches..etc.. near the chandelier may cause it to strobe. If you want one of the seperate included candles to be brighter, you can place another candle right on top of the original.
http://www.trackworx.com/ringskull.jpgBlack Lights are great for lighting halls, apparitions or any other object you may want to eerily emphasize. It may be best not to exceed more then four bulbs in one area, or you will get pulsing, however, exceeding the bulb count can turn out an interesting result: Adding five or six bulbs will give an effect like a few of the bulbs are starting to lose their juice, much like real fluorescent bulbs behave. No one said a house of horrors is supposed to be glamorous. Also, black lights tend to illuminate objects which face the ends of the bulb (perpendicular), and not parallel to them.
http://www.trackworx.com/ringskull.jpgSome wall overlays or wall mounted items need to hug the wall to look aesthetically pleasing. If you notice an overlay is not meeting up with your wall, move your wall in or out to make them align (or do the same with the actual object).
http://www.trackworx.com/ringskull.jpgThe 2D scare props are obviously best used at night, or within the pitch black walls from ye old Dark Ride Set. A nearby light creates a dramatic effect, however, the headlights of whatever vehicle you're riding in will be quite effective to immediatly spark a non-lit nearby object. Try placing a flickering torch near the Night Terror and watch its eyes pulse.
http://www.trackworx.com/ringskull.jpgThe Demon Arch was not designed as an outside fixture to match the old brick walls which dominate the wall set (you'll notice the brick design is different). This is basically a prop meant for entering new rooms/areas.
http://www.trackworx.com/ringskull.jpgThe included Particle Effects do not have solid attributes like a marker of some sort, as I didn't want anything visible that would hinder the look, particularly if you wish to stack your particles. Unfortunately, there's no way that I'm aware of to create a dispenser like object similar to Frontier's emitters which disappear once you close the scenery window. Fortunately, the particles that were drafted for this set do not cover huge areas (like Frontier's Mist) and are fairly easy to delete like any wall. Timed particles like The Deadly Explosion go off in short intervals (like once every second); if you wish to have a continuous effect, just watch the timing of each instance, and stamp down new particles in between the gaps of nothingness.

Wow, that looks real creepy  - I lke the new wall set very much. Too bad, that the white parts of the peeps clothing do not glow in the black light. I'm curious for the next step ...
BTW: The walls could match with MaxInfinitys Gothic Set. I like the idea to combine both sets, if you have yours ready next time.

Oooohhh, that's good stuff.
It'll round out the existing Dark Ride Scenery quite nicely, methinks. I love those arches.
Wow, with Marnetmar's Egypt theme for the Spirit Temple, and this for the Shadow Temple, I'm really glad I took a break from my park for a bit. This will all help SO much.

Very promising.... I'm excited to see what other fun things you'll include in this.
Thanks for the comments; A spiderweb is currently in the modeler now - just working out the transparency; it was one of the first objects created, but I haven't gone back to it yet. Additional items are furniture, staircases (for tracks to ride up/down), other light effects, blood splatters, additional walls, roof pieces, and lot of more horror props are in the works. Oh, those arches are actually come in triplets - one large higher/longer wall.
I wanted to thank Iceatics and Coastersimfan (<-I hope I got his name right), for helping me a few weeks ago with the effects matrix, along with DRP's guide, and Jonwil's reference (thanks to Sebar for hosting that info).

computertech82 - that is a cool looking web wall. The web I have will somewhat similar, but a completely transparent object (single plane alpha).
Same goes for the transparent ghosts (not full rounded 3D). They'll be great in the darkness, and won't be a polygon burden in the least.

Was thinking more on the lines of Casper.. nah, not really :haha: . Based on the skeleton pirate in that coffin, you can get an idea of the direction this will be heading. We already have enough "cutesy" horror stuff with the stock RCT3 spooky theme...now we go the other direction.

This I like, especially if you can get ghosts and such in there.
You should make some floor pieces (wooden floor etc) including pieces that, when placed on top of the curved track pieces such as large curve, small curve and s-bend (e.g. on the wooden mouse or haunted mansion ride) will form a curved hole for the track.
So basicly you put in the square wooden base blocks to make the main floor then you could have edge blocks that go at the edges of the straight track plus these corner blocks so essentially it makes a channel with the track moving through it (so that the cars only just miss scraping the edge of the wood)

Better, a statue of michael jackson himself!! :haha:
No Michael this time around - we want to keep it spooky, but not disturbing where people want refunds.
EDIT And in other matters: Brick Staircase and webbing is done, and a few apparitions are floating about.
Jonwil - can you give me some sort of example on those curved floor boards you mentioned?
East_Aer82
04-03-2006, 06:50 PM
I think what Jonwil is talking about are short walls, prolly about 1/3 height, that have the same curvature(sp?) as the track pieces. So that you could place them right next to the track creating a channel for the track to go through, kinda like a log flume (for lack of better example)
computertech82
04-03-2006, 08:27 PM
I was hoping, would you be creating Gothic type windows? Like a Main street scenery piece that can be placed on any type of wall?
And I was wondering, could you make "Flying Buttress" supports? (simple low poly types of both types; broken down to several pieces for different heights).
I can't get the pieces in the game now to create a decent one. Canal Park is the closest I could get one.

computertech82: would you be creating Gothic type windows? "Flying Buttress" supports?
Not wishing to hijack Pumpers thread, but I'm working on various eclesiatical fittings. Hopefully flying Buttresses, a crucifix, gargoyles, Klinn's Framework sized Gothic Arches and other bits of ribbing, vaulting. It'll probably be the end of the month before I'm in a position to annonce properly. This isn't intended to compete with Screamworx since I'm approaching it more from an eclesiatical architecture point of view rather than ghost train scenery.
Thanks all - still a long way to go; no there won't be banisters on the stairs. Many old stone castles didn't have them actually, but more importantly, it's better this way, as I don't have to make a left and right version of the same thing, and much space is needed for other things.
The apparitions are flat props -- what's interesting is, the more you paste down the same ghost over itself, the less transparent and more detailed it becomes, so you can stamp down to your liking. Sometimes, the scenery behind them creates a transparency as well, which is weird, but if you experiment with their placement and surrounding scenery, you'll get different results, many of which may accidentally turn out very cool.
Yup, webs are alphas - otherwise you'd be talking polygon ignorance to the max.
The_Cook Not sure why you're asking Computertech82 a question about this, as that could have been easily PM'ed to him, personally. However, if you take a moment to read his posts in this thread, you'll notice those Gothic postings were pics he recommended on seeing as scenery. Not sure if he's going to eventually take them on himself, but the best way to find out is to private message him.
My set is mainly horror/haunted related, and the majority of the scenery will be concentrated on the "internals" of a dark ride; I'm not shooting for much on external architecture - but a basic old brick set will be present as seen from the pics. There are many fine building sets out there right now to make a haunted house or dungeon right now, so I'm mainly pushing out the goods you'd see "inside".

I had not discovered until now that your you were doing this one fantastic pack which I like much his thematic one, Pumper :)
If you need aid in putting lights or effects to the objects you count with me ;) I had thought to return to again do packs mainly with objects that have light or effects because I see that there is shortage of light elements, but I do not know
Perhaps I am to you making small small gifts to adorn our parks with lights and effects that always must have so that they are more spectacular.
I will follow with attention your progress and I wait for anxious its release.
I´m sorry for not more often to answer the scenery creators but I find difficult to translate to the English. :(

im sure youve thought of this before but if you havnt here is an incredible idea, ok in your mouse works(wich is awesome by the way) you had a clear wall with big stars, well here is an incridble idea, why not mak a floor tile a wall tile and a ceiling tile with stars on it, now not the big stars, like little dotts and mabey you could make three sets with different sized stars, now that would be cool mixed in with blue light from DRPs lights, it would give the dark rides a huge outerspace feel, waht do you think?
P.S one last thing, do you think you would ever make concreate bases for the supports, thanks.

Wow Jcat, looks awsome like always. Can't wait to play with these goodies.
I have to say; you make some of the best and most used objects on RCT3.
OFF topic, are you going to update the support steelworks in the future?
Keep up the good work!
LightWarriorK - Thanks, Shadow Temple sounds like it's going to be pretty cool - I can wait until you finish it.
Gabird - Steelworx will indeed get an update after Screamworx. I'm working on some new ideas (in my head) - when Steelworx was created, we didn't have access to alpha tricks back then.
Oh, late tonight I should have a bunch of new Scream-shots.
04-28-06 Update
Note: The Lights are there just for illumination purposes, as it would be pretty weird to see a street lamp in the middle of a tile floor.
Pic1 - Blood Splat Overlay, Rusty Wall, and Column. A red fluorescent beam casts just enough light to see something appearing from the darkness.
Pic2 - A Nosferatu arc-like entrance with built in night lights.

Pic3 -"Some" of the furniture, and a another floor tile.
Pic4 - A broken Brick wall, a single arc in the background, and Silent Hill's Pyramid Head awaits its victims.

Pic5 Additional Rust walls including a 1/4 style riveted trim, some diagonal webbing, a smaller brick style wall and a pentagram.

Jcat (It took me a long hard time to type that rather than Pumper :) )... Love the new items. One idea that immediately spanwed in my brain from the blood spatter overlay, and which is like the one thing that still creeps me out in haunted houses/movies/etc... handprints... bloody or not... think inside the house on Blair Witch Project. Bloody handprints would look sweet meshed alongside the existing blood spatter overlay.
Hey, thanks for the comments all! Yes, I've got myself involved in something a big too big. I'm already up to the amount of objects found in the recent Mouseworx, and only about 60% through.
I'm currently back at exterior work, which started as basic brick walls/roofs which has now grown to something more more castle-like. I'm not going to go overboard in the exterior department, as there's enough custom and stock scenery around to build the outside of your house of horrors.
ytivarg - cool idea - I may "hand" over a pic of that soon.
Frogpole - Yes indeed - already in the works, thanks!
RCT-Spanky - Yes, it is - it's empty though.
Uries - Definitely including a bed - that's a must!
My only problem right now is effects matrix. Despite the documention mentioning how adding lights are a bit trickier then particle effects, I'm finding the oppposite results. If anyone out there can answer a few, with some simple problems I'm having, I'd highly appreciate it.

OK, within the next few days, the last set of preview shots will be shown and then it's on to the final stretch of the set.
So far, the total object count is 55 pieces, and I'm looking at about 75 by completion. Just need to work out how to merge beyond the 60 max icon grid.
I managed to figure out the particle effects situation (they're more complex to learn then the lights in my opinion), so I have a some very cool items to show in the final gallery.
Completion should be roughly.. Mid May.
marnetmar
05-03-2006, 05:32 PM
Sounds Great JCat   I never thought about increasing the grid for more than 64 "pieces". It probably won't be hard, just a bigger icon file I'm guessing.
I had an idea for something I was going to make, but you might be thinking about the same thing already lol I'll shoot you a PM ;)
As noted in PM - we think similar!! :haha: We've must of watched a lot of the same horror movies in our past.
Yeah, I think this 64x64 thing has sometihng do with with the importer option which lets you combine saved themes. I am so going to back up the files before attempting that.

I believe you can just have more then one icon file so instead of just having one file 512 by 512 you have 2 files 512 by 512. Also cant wait to see the new pictures just remember that if the partial effects didn’t come with the game you will have to supply us with them too.

Re: Particle Effects - yup, I knew that, but thanks. So far, the particle effects are not firework designs reworked -- they are stock effects; no extra files needed to be copied in to other directories.
Thanks for the icon info, CSF! - that's right, forgot you can actually assign other icon grids.

amazing work JCat!!!! Some of those imges reminded me of the movie SAW: blood on the floor and rusty looking walls. Keep up the fantastic work. Can't wait for this package to be released.
Here's a final preview, though there will be additional objects (not shown) when this pack is released. The various castles were thrown together within minutes just to show different configurations. I wanted a bit of everything as far as objects, but without going too crazy within one particular area of Screamworx. Some of the pix shown include a few more furniture pieces (mixing some modern in there for versatilty), one of three Victorian Area Rugs, a few of the wallpaper styles, a 'colorable' torch lamp for any wall style, and last but not least, a working fireplace.

You know, its unhealthy for me to look at all this upcoming stuff, but i feel i must... and end up look like this guy. :bulb:
Wow, now our dark rides won't be so "wimpy". The possibilities are endless. We can have authentic haunted mansion rides or Castle Dracula's. I did a dark ride which is based on a real dark ride that burned down a couple years ago, it was called Castle Dracula and it had a walk-through and Dungeon boat ride and it was located in Wildwood, NJ at the Nickels Midway Pier across from one of the Morey's Piers. It originally opened in 1977, and the old mill boat ride 1919. There was a fireplace in the great front room once you entered the castle from outside through the huge double wooden doors. Here is a site about the castle http://www.darkinthepark.com/Dracula/cdPictures/cdentrance.htm This should give you some ideas for objects, I want a chandelier like in the picture. That haunted attraction really freaked me out! There were live people hiding behind corners ready to scare you. It was more like a guided tour where you would meet someone in each room that would give a spiel then send you on your way. The boat ride was pure scare, with live actors lurking around. Lots of torture scenes.

I love your castle walls too. You should collaborate with The Cook and send him the texture of the castle walls. And I agreed with some others here ... grod4L's Avondale Manor will have a lot of new rooms with your set ;) :)

- I still have a few weeks of work, and the castle walls were already on my alignment fix list, among other objects. I tend to create draft" items, then during the final phase, I do most of the corrections. That way, it doesn't get too boring/tedious, working night after night with the same object style.

They are all separate objects: Blue wallpaper, a 3D chest, an area carpet and Baby KillYou, which is a 2D Alpha cut, and has the coordinates of a half size wall. 2D alphas save a lot on polygons.. and have the same desirable effect as a spooky 3D object, as long as you're not viewing it from the side.

There's some really awesome objects that have not been shown yet - including a door way (with accompanying open door) which is cool when entering from one room to another, a Chainsaw (model), and a wall mounted skull lamp. The package looks like it's going between 80-85 pieces.

That mean a lot of scrolling up and down. Anyway, the set looks so awesome. I love the new chandelier. Is there a sepereate chain in the pack too for change the length of the chain for the chandelier in the middle?

Hey there Every time i download your custom supports when i go and click on it in the the game my game freezes up on me i do not know why it keeps freezing up do you have a solution to this problem i have soaked and wild oh bye the way great work you do thanks
That mean a lot of scrolling up and down.
:haha: Yes, but I'm sure everyone would agree, that's a small price to pay for a s#$t load of objects.
COASTERMAN2009 - it works perfectly for everyone, but sometimes, when this happens, it may mean the installation could have skipped something. Reinstall it. Make sure you have the latest version which was updated sometime in November - anytime before that would have been the "pre-wild" version, and won't work.

Will this be out before the end of May? I can't wait! I like dark rides! I have ridden a bunch in my lifetime. Some of them that I rode are now closed or gone. RCT3 is like a virtual dark ride sim, you can build a dark ride and ride it. I wish there was a way to make moveable crash doors with collision detection so that the cars hit the doors and they open? The previous RCT's had that.

Dang! Jcat, You guys are amazing with these custom theme objects...I was amazed with the darkride collection. Soon RCT3 is going to be an unlimited operating little universe. Man I cannot wait to see what you do with Steelworks upgrade. Your willingness to do this without profit is also amazing.
Keep up the awsome work you and the others are doing for this game.
And they think Thrillville is going to compare to This!?

Thanks guys -
About 90% done; lots more interesting objects were added since the last screens. I'm hoping by next weekend, I'll be finished, baring no real life interruptions.

My guess is a few more days till contact - but tonight I'll post some more pics for those who have been patiently and impatiently waiting. :haha:

Screamworx is nearing completion, though as mentioned, I had a hectic work week, so it pushed things around a bit. It won't be much longer though...

I don't feel like going through all the posts, but I am wondering if you will include pitchblack walls and ceiling pieces because I would rather have it that I don't need to use Martemars and the other guy's darkride pieces. (NO offense, but I want to limit my scenery groups to Shyguy's and Worx themes.)

The "other guy" you mention is JCat, the artist formerly known as Pumper lol
Thanks for the comments. Yeah, as Marnetmar mentioned, I am the "Other Guy". In fact, it says JCat's Dark Ride Set right in RCT3. I won't be adding black walls/roofs or combining from the original set, only because this set is so flipping large already. I understand it would be less themes to have to shuffle through, but the amount of objects you're going to have to scroll through, would probably take just as long as simply clicking on the older set and grabbing one of the needed pieces. In addition, Marnetmar's objects compliment this set as well, particularly his spiders which now have a nesting place. :haha:
Something cool - the 5th screen shot which has the castle in the background with the bright green ghost (which is actually a blue one before lighting). If you put any type of torch or fire emitter near it, its red eyes actually pulse which I didn't even realize until I saw it by accident.

Looking really nice. The items are so detailed I can only imagine how long you must have spent on this set. You defiantly have alpha textures down. I can’t wait to see how people incorporate this set in to there parks. Something tells me it will defiantly make them spookier.

Wow, those are amazing. That chainsaw is so awesome. I think you should make blood splatters its own object so you could put those anywhere.
Thanks ^ ^ ^ all
Spinout - the blood splatters are seperate objects. ;) Those splats of blood are actualy two stamped overlays - one above the other, and way above that you can see a set of bloody handprints (they're blood-red too, but because of the lighting in that particular shot, they gave off a bit of a reflection).
If you look at some of the earlier screen shots from weeks back, you'll see the blood stains alone.

The banshee makes me really happy! Ooooohhh can't wait!
East_Aer82 - thanks, that Banshee is 2D, he's pretty cool though - especially behind a window or popping up out of some other scenery object.
YthySlz - I swear I'm not that much of psycho. Actually, I'm a massive dark ride and horror/sci fi movie fan. But, interestingly enough, I don't like slasher films or gore. I tend to like horror classics, but with Screamworx, I chose to cater to fans of both. Thanks!

Wow. I like to have some of those objects for one of my parks. Would you happen to have furniture like stuff as well? And how about a transparent spider web wall?
That's a good idea.The transparant wall I mean.Cool.If someone made that I would totaly use it.

doesnt matter if yoiur a physco or not if you produce costom scenery like this were all happy to be friends with a physco lol..... anyway i must say im going to have to put a dark ride in my park now becuase im dieing to use it and i think the gore peices is quite cool actaully becuase only some gost trains have gore pieces in so it will be more fun to use.... BUT my most fave peiece at the moment has to be the scary archway with the demon like bat scary thing lol TO SUM THIS ALL UP! FANTASTIC WORX!

I'm thinking a slow, water-based ride (kinda like Pirates of the Caribbean). It's a great break on a hot day at the park.

The splatter/gore pieces are the stereotypical ones you'd have found in any 80's horror film - which is precisely what we need as they're the sort of thing you'd find in a haunted house.

I cant possibly put into words how i feel about the release of this set, but i will try.... (sits a few mins thinking). Nope i cant add anything that hasn't been added already, so i will just say thank you for doing this JCat, it will enhance any park. Judging from your last sets, this is gonna rock! any ideas on whats next? (sorry if i seem impatient).

Yes this will be excellent for the platform. Thanks Jcat for your hardwork on this.
Thanks -
Should be up within the next 2-3 days max.
I just added a number of bare bones (no pun intended) particle effects which can be used for anything (like Fronteir's Mist, Smoke), but are also effective when combining with some of ScreamWorx objects. For example: One of the particles is a white cloudy effect which alone looks kind of ghostly - and if you stick an apparition in there, it's a sweet spooky combo!
