Having a pretty long time experience in 3d modelling i decided to do some game modding for RCT 3. I'm currently collectiong all kind of reference regarding Disneyland stuff and will soon post the first models/renders.
Feel free to request specific disney objects along with a pic or at least a link i can use for reference...

One question, are custom entertainers possible??

Gr8 to c new custom scenery creators, i wouldn't mind if u could make, a starspeeder 3000, sum POTC scenery like the pirates and skeletons, the singing heads from HM, sum other disneyland fans also wanted the Partners Statue and possibly the Entry signs into all the lands, there just some suggestions, If u know www.visionsfantastic.com then thats probably the best site to get disneyland pics and resources or u could also try www.disneylandpostcards.com.

Good luck with it all

Custom Entertainers are not possible, no. Jonwil has not yet cracked animation either.

Besides custom entertainers would be annoying as you'd have to rig them etc etc and I don't think that's coming any soon on the Jonwil list of things to do :P

I'd like to request the Disney bins (or trashcans, you decide) - http://img312.imageshack.us/img312/8156/fxpovtrash6yt.jpg

The partners statue would be great! And certainly some pirates scenery. Here are some pics -

http://www.mickey-mouse.com/images/dlpartners.gif
http://lostworld.pair.com/trips/wdw99/MGM/tower_of_terror2.jpg - Maybe some stuff from here?

Well, there are just a few. This sounds great!

the trashcans are already planned, think i'll start with that and the entrance sign to "Toonland".

Can u give me a hint on size convertions between max and rct3? How large is one RCT tile?

*edit* forget the question, already answered in the rct3imp readme file

A good idea can be to make parade floats so we can put them in our parks! :)http://visionsfantastic.com/visions/dlr/main/Electrical_Parade_01.jpg

i already started something but before i start putting it in the game i need some more questions answered...please

1. Can i create my own "disney" theme to put my objects in instead replacing the existing ones?

2. does rct3 support normal mapping, i guess no...:-(

3. does each object have to be one mesh with one texture?

4. is alpha mapping supported / possible ?

5. is there a prefered texture size or polycount for objects ?

any answer will help me a lot to create the appropriate models for the game

Thanks

i already started something but before i start putting it in the game i need some more questions answered...please

1. Can i create my own "disney" theme to put my objects in instead replacing the existing ones?

Yes

2. does rct3 support normal mapping, i guess no...:-(

Yes it does for the most part, but there's some tricks to getting it to work correctly.

3. does each object have to be one mesh with one texture?

No, you can use more than 1 mesh/texture with Jonwil's importer.

4. is alpha mapping supported / possible ?

Yes

5. is there a prefered texture size or polycount for objects ?

Whenever possible try to keep the texture files 256x256, 512x512 would be about the maximum I'd use. For most objects around 300-500 polys would be about as high as you want to go.

any answer will help me a lot to create the appropriate models for the game

Thanks

I hope this is enough to get you started Trex, feel free to ask any other questions you might have.

I've been waiting for that bin for some time! I can't wait!

Phil
04-05-2006, 12:37 PM
Polygon counts? Because RCT3 is kinda lag infested you don't want objects to have too many polygons.

I suggest for that sign just have 1 text extrude and texture the other onto it, and also have the curved bit at the bottom all 1 curve. The text probably has lots of polygons in itself therefore it would be best to have no text extrusions at all and texture them on. RCT3 is mainly a game where you're not scouting around looking at the signs in so much detail that you're going to notice the text is extruded, and therefore the text mainly is useless. Also the bin doesn't need an indent it's jsut a magor waste of polygons. Nobody's gonna actually see that indent and a good texture would make it look like there was an indent there. The bin is highly common in a park and therefore doesn't need any more polygons than what makes up the basic shape.

To be honest having a high poly object is no success with a game like RCT3. If you think making a highly detailed object is awesome, well it's just not, because RCT3 doesn't need any more lag.

Look at this:
http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=513901

I can't stress how much I mean that guide, I didn't spend ages writing it for nothing.

About the polys, in theory you should be able to have as many polys as you want, as long as you make the object in peices. The partners statue for instance - one for the head, one for the body etc.

Do you even know what your talking about?
The space mountain dome at HKDL is the same thing as the one in CA other than the ball things at the top.
The castle is the same thing as CA's. But I think as of right now. The HKDL's castle is really ugly compaired to CA's. And the castle has already been made.

Just sit back and let the guy do his stuff. This isn't "Beg for scenery" thread. This is Disneyland. Why is it that whenever sombody makes Disneyland scenery. People infest posts with "Please make this from some other disney park, make that, oh dont make Disneyland stuff, Blah..... Blah..... Blah......" Its bugs me. He can do whatever he wants. It's not like custom scenery pops out of nowhere. If you want other disney park scenery then make it yourself.

Back on the proper subject. This scenery looks amazing. Some of the best stuff yet. Keep up the good work.

Sorry that I sounded like an ass whole.

Nice to see you back Denny...hope you're feeling better!

The Bugland entry looks fantastic, as do the trash bins, I hope that, as Phil pointed out, you find a way to keep the polys at a reasonable level while still looking this great! A couple of high-poly items is probably okay since you don't usually use more than one in a park, but something like the castles can quickly become HUGE...I think the file size on one of Lulujarre's is around 7.2 Mb. As nice as it looks it's hard to add something that big to a park if you plan on adding other things too before you start running into problems.

the toontown sign was made in about an hour or so. I replaced the the extruded text with a texture to keep polys low (from 5378 to 210, yeah:D ), but no update pics for today, sorry.
I'd love to get more input on how to put the stuff in the game, since it never worked so far. Either the importer crashes or...i dunno, ill keep trying though...thanks for feedback so far, helps me keep on going.

As for the entrance signs, im planning on doing adventure land and tomorrowland next. What other signs are there (i never been to dca, so...)

Question?

What the heck is texturing an image? Is that when you are modeling your design? Is this something totally different? How big is the modeling should be? Because when I design. I start off big and then scale it down to 64x64. Is this wrong to do it like that?

im so sorry for letting you wait for such a long time, i had so much stuff to do...However, instead of making more stuff, i'll focus my efforts on bringing things into the game, giving you some stuff to download sooner or later...thanks for all the kind words and support so far, hopefully it'll pay off soon

Cheers
Trex

Wow, its rare we see someone come back to finish something after so long. I'm glad you decided to do so, from what you showed us, your objects look great and much better then a lot of the current sets. Good luck importing it all.

you know as much as you say that all the other people's CS sets suck compared to his, i'm willing to bet that you the person first in line to download them, and also insult other ppls CS sets they work hard on them, almost hard as you worked on your tunnels, which truly weren't nothing special.....

Quoted. Don't you dare put words in my mouth, as I said nothing of the sort. I said that his set was better then most of the newer sets, usually because they don't care to put effort into it. This set looks very good, and I am glad that Trex2001 came back to it, because it was one that was done with effort.

Trex2001, I am sorry for having abercrombiehart bring such nonsense into your thread. Hopefully he'll feel no need to reply to this and the rest of the replies will be strictly related to your set.

I think he knows that his set is good....i CERTAINLY feel that his set is good, and just by the way i dont have to put the words into your mouth, because you said them yourself just now as a reply to my statment "I said that his set was better then most of the newer sets usually because they don't care to put effort into it." umm how would you know whether or not they put effort into it, maybe they just aren't AS talented as CS makers such as yourself who could really know the diffulculties of making CS:confused:......but yeah, please Trex ignore my petty rants since i so enjoy ruining other peoples threads by posting things that defend other people.....

Abercrombiehart

Oh and just in case you didn't realize, I felt the DIRE need to reply to what you said...xss277x, and i don't think that voicing my opinion, or defending other people's creativity that you so critizced is nonsense

I don't see anywhere that anyone said anything in this thread about other peoples CS sets suck.
