You want ugly cars, I'd rate the Ford Taurus as an ugly car. Yeah, even that Crown Vic thing. Hell, the ugliest cars I've ever seen seem to come from Korea/China.

This IS ugly:

Yeah, how on earth did they turn a dead sexy car such as the Mercedes Benz E Class into a cheap Korean imitation.

I gotta admit though, they did a pretty good job considering they're not being sued.

KoenigViper
05-07-2006, 05:40 AM
If you keep reading up on them, many Korean/Chinese cars are replicas of other manufacturers. They are only sold in their own countries though as not many have the money to buy Mercedes, Jags, etc.

However, a few Chinese automakers have proposed to come to the U.S. But according to many auto journalists, they will fail. The cars are too cheaply made, and are not very safe.

Citroen C4 VTS.

I was formerly a Citroen Sales Exec, they make some interesting cars. I haven't yet seen the new C6, but the C4 VTS was always a great 'fang' and had some pretty interesting features built in.

I don't know about the Crown Vic, while we've progressed onto modern, sporty designs, it still seems to be stuck in the mid-1990s.

I like that; apart from every aspect of it, Citroen really are bad at making cars, the rear end of it is bent (much like the company that made it) and the front probably looks like the rear end of a sheep.

Edit: I just searched it on google and saw the front. Disgusting.

Citroen's are no less reliable than local Fords and Holdens. Actually, I have experienced more issues that have needed to be fixed under warranty on my Z4 than most people experience in there first year of ownership of a Citroen.

If you understand their cars, you start to respect them.

Dude, I love how the Falcon looks, but you don't understand the point of the Crown Victoria. Old people LOVE the car because it's big, old fashioned, comfortable, and drives and rides like cars from years gone. It might not look "new" but it certainly doesn't look ugly.

The '72 Valiant Charger... made by Dodge. It was one of the fastest cars over there at the time, and is still quick enough to run with most. I want to import one someday.

1972 Valiant Charger E49 straight six hemi, pulled the 1/4 mile in 14 seconds and has been known to decimate modern day Mustangs at the drag strip completely stock. I believe it held the record as fastest Australian-built car for 20 odd years, until V8s came back in the 90's? We had a muscle car scare down here, government told the big three (Ford, Holden & Chrysler) to stop building fast cars.

No new Mopar Muscle in Australia at current, b!tch at Chrysler for that. They seem to think we need more Grand Cherokees and Commanders. The Viper flopped here when they introduced them, they seem to have a winner with the SRT8 300C.

One I feel that needs to be pointed out again is the Ford GT90 concept (FordGT guy posted it earlier too). I have no clue what they were thinking, and just imagine if this went to production we might not have the Ford GT today  . Only plus about this thing was the Quad Turbo V12...

Here are my thoughts on the cars today:

Basically everything doesn't look as good as it used too. Why do you think so many companies are looking back in time at the retro style cars? The Prowler basically started the new retro style production cars... It totally flopped because it was to ahead of it's time. Then the PT Cruiser was released and everyone flipped for it. Along came the new Beatle again everyone loves it... New Mustangs, new Challenger designs, Camaro... They are all from the 60's styling because the 60's car designs were amazing. The dashboards were small everything was userfriendly... Now we have Dashboards that are like 2 feet long with a million buttons... Sorry, all I want is the wheel, the peddles and maybe a radio and I'll be happy.

I'm very surprised no one has posted any Dodge products. I'm sorry to say but until the Challenger designs every Dodge product looks the same... Big bulky ugly grill, low flairs with a tall hood... C'mon, their sale pitch is 2 hick guys with a rusty old Charger screaming out "Duh dat thing gotta Hemi?!" The Charger is laughable with it's V6 "Midlife crisis with a family model". Sorry dood, you bought a car that shoulda been a V8... I guess you're dumber than the hicks in their commercials? The Charger is just a coupe version of it's Wagon predasessor the Magnum which is equally as ugly. Dodge likes to brag about how they get out concepts cars so quickly... Well sorry fellas, you do all your on road testing inside a cubical with simulation computer testing... The first 4 years of your new car basically sucks.

I own a Corvette and I can still say that GM is way behind the curve right now in design... Don't get me wrong GM makes some damn nice performance cars for all price ranges and ages. I was sad to see the Firebird and Camaro go, I couldn't see why they couldn't compete sale wise with the bulky ugly Mustangs. The new GTO was a total joke, they basically revamped a Grand Prix and said LOOK A GTO! It has a V8 so it has to be one?! The one thing they uped Dodge on is making the 4 door GTO muscle car into what it shoulda been... A 2 door with no V6 option! If you want a family car buy a min Van... Not some Family Performance hybrid. The new Camaro looks cool but to be honest I don't think they will release it in time to stick with the muscle retro competition... But to see another small car with the LS2 will be giggle box. The new Vettes are very nice every aspect except in the behind... It's like seeing a beautifully shaped girl walk by you but when you look behind your shoulder she has this nasty GIANT BUTT! The Z06 is the best bang for the buck... you can't beat that car right now with what you pay for it. Chevy probably has the nicest trucks around.

I also own a Ranger for my winter car and I can say that Ford trucks are kinda nice in the front... buuuuut nowhere else. The new mustangs are amazing but still it didn't take much thought to copy off the gen1 models. My family has a 66' Mustang and I'd prefer the 66' over the new one any day... The new stangs arn't that quick unless you get package upgrades and it just doesn't seem to be worth my money if I'm looking for performance. We all know the new GT is amazing... But please god let's not get it confused with the GT40. The GT is amazing but the GT40 is like... Jesus? Basically anything else ford makes isn't worth mentioning.

Most Japaniese cars look the same except for a few, Celica, WRX, S2000... I laughed when I saw the WRX posted because god... It is ugly, I know why they have the gold rims but god... they look awful, keep them on the racing circuit ONLY PLZ. The huge air vent on the hood was much to massive for the turbo that they have in the car and we all know that wing adds +15hp!

German cars are awful... They all look the same, every Porsche BMW Mercedes will be the same damn car. The only way you can tell if a BMW is an M3 is if you see the lllM3 tag on the back. The Porsche is a very femi design. Mercedes and BMW are all very boxy and are basically bricks with wheels... I guess they need too think outside the box?

The british can make some NIIIIIIIICE cars... Jaguars are very elegent machines... they may be massive tanks and not that great in performance but I really think they have what it takes to be one of the best car designers. The lines usually flow smoothly and they are never to chopy. Don't get me wrong their are some ugly ones out there but for the most part. The thing is they just don't last... Everything fails within time but quicker for the Brit cars... The Design is there but the part quality isn't.

We all know Itally designers are all bastards for making such amazing looking cars so we don't need to discuss them... infact they are on another palent and are infact martians so they really don't count and therefore don't need to be discussed.

If you read this much grats I was just typing trying to finish my beer. ^_^

Subtlety is obviously something you are not a fan of, personally I like have a performance car that isn't scream with copious quantities of badging, decals and racing stripes. I like a car that doesn't look too dissimilar from a base model until you open up the throttle.

My Z4 is not a box on wheels and the only thing advertising the power within is the factory exhaust. Just the way I like it...

On a sidenote, are there any new cars whatsoever that you actually like, other than Italian stuff?

xDetroitMetalx
07-31-2006, 01:13 AM
I don't like the screaming cars that catch attention. My Vette is stock from the outside besides the wheels. My ranger has after market bumpers to replace some wrecked ones but it isn't god awful. I like the retro cars because they went back to the roots of what muscle cars great. The new Corvettes are just amazing looking besides the back end. I also said the brits can make some really fine cars. I actually don't know why im repeating myself when it's all in the above.

The Charger and Challenger are not retro-styled cars? You didn't appear to like them.

GM still does a lot of on-road testing which is why they are a little bit behind on the retro designs. But since they do the on-road testing they have one of the best performance car selections these passed few years. I never really said I hated the retro designs, they look cool and they have gone back to what made american muscle cars... I just think it's a fad that will die down fairly soon.

The new Ford truck cabs look really nice but the beds just look way to tall. I really do like my Ranger Splash besides the fact that the cab looks a little strange near the top. The lines on the truck itself flow very well and it's one of the best smaller trucks ever built (if owners would take care of them) in my opinion. Ford also has the best looking Retro style car right now which is the Mustang, even though I'm not a Mustang fan.

The Charger is not retro styled but the new Challenger is. The new Challenger looks alright and they have gone back in time to bring this one out. The hood is really really long like the old Challenger and since they did this I wonder if the motor will be easily accesable for performance swaps? The thing I hate about Dodge the most right now is that they did make a muscle car into a family car. Most Chargers I see are the V6 versions. I see the drivers as ones who couldn't get the fast car they wanted because the wife would probably kill him so he went for the family car that really was never ment to be a family car. Atleast GM fixed the GTO...
