Just watched all of Disgeae. Really good.

I have been watching Maburaho (spelled it wrong last time). It is OK, sometimes it does seem a little slow. Maybe, it's just me.

Anybody have any comments about this show, or the tidbit I posted last time (About Live Action Hollywood Anime Movies)?

This just in, Hellsing Ultimate Vol. 3 DVD on sale Oct. 16th! Just in time for Halloween viewing!

BTW is anybody having a difficult time finding Hellsing Manga Vol. 8? It was supposed to come out June 27th, I have looked at several big bookstores (Barnes & Noble/Borders) and they did not have it. I found it today at a small Anime store, they said they got it 2 weeks ago (when the big stores did not have it).

I rented Princess Mononoke to see it again (it had been awile since they showed it on TV). I was interested in possibly purchasing it on DVD. It was a pretty good movie. It definately had a very enviromental message (sort of like Nausicaa). I am still considering it, just not right now.

Any comments?

Definetly buy it. You need at least one Miyazaki film in your collection. Castle in the Sky was my choice.

EricDent

I allready own Kiki's Delivery Service, Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, and Castle of Caglistro.

I used to own Castle in the Sky, & Spirited Away. Not sure why I got rid of them, maybe I just got tired of watching them.

Not really sure if I will buy Mononoke right now, I might wait awhile.

In researching of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya for a potential purchase. I discovered that the ending theme: Hare Hare Yukai has a dance that is really popular. Just type that into Youtube to see a bunch of people dancing this dance. Especially at Anime conventions. Maybe this dance will become the next Macarena.

BTW I went to Seattle's International district Wednesday. I went to several stores. International Model Toys: Sells models & toys based on Anime. Pink Godzilla: Import & Retro video games & merchandise based on games. Finally I went to Kinokuniya Bookstore: Bookstore that has Asian books. Their Manga section was HUGE! They also sold import CDs (I got We Love Katamari CD).

I will be posting pictures of my trip on the Godzilla Community Chat board. The Topic will be called "Eric's Trip". It will also feature pictures of my move to Texas.

The topic is now up over at the Godzilla community chat. It is called Eric's Big Trip & Seattle Omage.

I picked up The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya vol. 1 recently, it is really funny.

Kind of recent news that I heard about.

Geneon (formally Pioneer) sold their stuff to ADV.
Which means in the future we will get thin-packs of loads of anime.

Like:

Chobits
Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure
Gun X Sword
Gungrave
L/R: Licensed by Royalty
Master Keaton
Magical Project S (Please dub into English)
R.O.D. the TV
And many many others.

My only concern about this is what the future holds for Hellsing Ultimate, which was from Geneon. I guess ADV will pick it up, but they might have to make it a union-dub to get the VAs (Crispin Freeman) to finish it.

Any thoughts on this news?
Your opinion?
What do you think will happen?

Discussion in an Anime Discussion topic is always nice.

I am not really a big fan of that particular type of anime. It looks cool, but again not really my thing.

I prefer Comedy (Harem & wacky hijink types), Mecha (Giant Robots), Action (Monsters involved), and even a bit of Thriller/Spy Shows (like L/R for example).

The only show I really watch on Adult Swim is Bleach.
I would normally watch the DVDs I own as well, but I don't have a personal TV anymore. My computer does have a DVD drive, but the fan is so noisy that I would have to turn the vollume up too high.

Better yet, why don't you tell us why we should watch GITS: SAC.

Maybe you could influence us enough to warrant a rental. If I recall the local Blockbuster has some GITS stuff. Not sure if it is SAC though.

EricDent

Has anybody seen Green Green? The DVD set of all 3 volumes is $20 at Best Buy. It looks kinda like the stuff I would normally watch. It also looks like it could be a bit "naughty".

Any other suggestions would be nice.

I enjoy

Romantic Comedy, Wacky/weird comedy, Action, Mecha (has to have giant robots/monsters in it), and some drama/slice of life.

Please only suggest shows that are less than 40 episodes.

EricDent
09-22-2007, 01:24 AM
I picked up Green Green, it was exactly how I pictured it. Rather racy, with wacky hi-jinks. Only 13 episodes long for $20, not a bad deal.

I also watched the last season (or is it?) of UFO Princess Valkyrie (or as its called in the US UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie). It was only 2 episodes long and definately had a "to be continued" type ending. Boy I hate when they do that in anime.

This is also a bump for the newer members who might want to read some of the stuff we talked about in this topic, before making a new topic.

I'm going to pick up Dragon Ball Z Season 3 today. The quality is said to be even better than Dragon Box this time around. Even though the aspect ratio is still 16:9.

I found out that I get the Colors channel on our Satelite Dish. If you are not aware, that channel shows parts of the Funimation Channel's lineup. So I was watching Case Closed for the first time in quite a while. I also get the Ani-Mania HD channel. Which shows Samurai 7. I did not watch that, but I did watch the New Captain Scarlett show. It is done by Gerry Anderson, the man behind shows like Thunderbirds, Space 1999, and others. It is all CGI, he used to use marionettes, sort of like the ones on Team America World Police.

EricDent

Yes Season 3 of Dragon Ball Z has Frieza on the cover, so I assume that he is featured in the episodes.

Speaking of Dragon Ball Z.

Read this: http://www.chud.com/index.php?type=news&id=12002

It is supposed to be the plot summary for the upcoming Dragon Ball Z live action film. Only problem is it sounds more like Dragon Ball (with older characters) than DBZ.

I DO NOT WANT A LIVE ACTION DBZ MOVIE. IF THIS HAPPENS, DBZ SHALL DIE. AKIRA TORIYAMA --WHEREVER YOU ARE--CREATE A NEW SERIES IN WHCIH EVERYONE DIES SO THAT THEY CANNOT MAKE THIS MOVIE. OR AT LEAST SAVE YOUR SERIES BEFORE IT COMES OUT.:cry::cry:

Cool, I might go pick up Season 3 today.

That is generally the reaction to the plot of the film. It sounds like complete crap. If it is Dragon Ball, then why isn't Goku like 10? There also seems to be a complete lack of Krillian, Mai is a Red Ribbon Army member NOT a Picolo follower, etc. Plus it would be cool to get Puar, Oolong, Launch, and Yajirobe.

OK, it was not a great show, but it did have it's moments.

I picked up Hellsing Ultimate 3 today (whoops Best Buy put it out early). Boy was it cool. I am seriously hoping that someone will continue this awesome series, now that Geneon probably won't be around anymore.

Not sure if it totally follows the actual "volumes" of the manga. Cause it seemed like the first 2 OVAs covered until about vol. 3 or so. And this one goes at least into volume 5 of the manga.

Seras is pretty funny in this OVA, she is there pretty much as "comic relief", since Alucard is in his uber-badass-killing mode in most of the episode.

Again they have awesome fight scenes, awesome story, and a really awesome dubbing crew.

Which is one thing that might ruin the rest of the episodes (if they do more), cause Crispin Freeman is an union voice actor. Most of the other companies (ADV & Funimation) are non-union. I seriously don't think anybody besides Crispin Freeman should be Alucard, he is just so darn awesome.

EricDent

OK I guess I just assumed that Goku was 10. Cause he looked about 10 years old.

It would be really cool to get uncut versions of the Dragon Ball show. IMO it was alot better than DBZ. The reasons: No uber long power-up scenes, no uber-long fights (especially ones that are 5 minutes long in real time, but take 12 episodes to show), etc.

Alrighty then. Maybe you could do an article for us on Dragon Ball. Just follow my examples, and have pics, while telling the general outline of the show. Of course don't spoil too much, not everybody knows the story.

I finally got the last volume (Manga) of Ai Yori Aoshi. It had a really good ending. Aoi chose the Karou she wanted (the "Real" one), they go back to the empty mansion. They finally sleep "together" (wink wink, nudge nudge, know what I mean). They wake up, and for some reason are embarassed to look at each other naked. Then they are about to leave, the rest of the gang shows up. Karou & Aoi finally can tell them their plans to get married, everyone is happy. Then Tina leaves for America, and the other girls kiss Karou goodbye.

3 years later, Tina visits the whole gang. Some of whom have seriously grown-up (Chika-Chan, her friends, and Mayu). The "Manager" Miyabi & Tae are working for the Sakura dept. store, which is really sucessful (Miyabi got adopted by the Sakuraba's). Chika & friends are going to the college where Karou went. Mayu went back to England, & she visits Aoi & Karou last, who have changed their last names to Honju. Karou works in an office (suit & tie) and Aoi stays at there apartment (which could be the same apt. that Karou originally had). And they lived happily ever after. The End.

I am now rewatching the '80s version of The Guyver anime. Boy, is it still cool. Only problem is, I don't recall it having a weird opening theme. I think they re-did it recently. Cause it is sort of like the infamous "Rock The Dragon" theme from DBZ (I still prefer Head-Cha-La any day of the week).

Kingoji
10-24-2007, 05:01 PM
Hey, Eric!

When Manga Video bought the rights back in the early 90's they made numerous changes to the series, the opening and closing titles were replaced, and some of the episodes have some edits, Vol. twelve being the worst case.

The MV credits had a new theme dubbed Guyver Rock by Howling Mad George (ironically, this is the only version we got in the UK, and as such I kinda like it, if not prefer it), and the scene where Mizuki is stripped by Aptom is missing less than three seconds of footage, but it is still rather glaring.

I personally prefer the OAV to the recent TV show. It just felt more intense and emotionally involved... The two Enzyme episodes being major standouts to this, as in the TV show they can tear the Guyver's head with no effort at all, but in the OAV they had to dig in, grip, let the acids do their work, then yank, with the Guyver screaming in terror and agony all the while. Gut wrenching stuff when you think about it...

EDIT: By the way, here's a link to my very first photoshop image! Yup, it's Guyver!

http://img402.imageshack.us/my.php?image=reactivationwc0.jpg

I put it as a link because I don't want to test any rules about nudity, although I find it totally inoffensive in this scenario.

We are talking about the anime called Biobooster Armor Guyver. There are actually 2 different anime series ('80s and 2005), an OVA called Out of Control. As well as 2 Hollywood made live action films. The first one featured Mark Hamill & Jimmy "Dynomite" Walker, the 2nd features famed voice actor David Hayter (voiced Solid Snake in all the Metal Gear Solid games) as the Guyver.

Basically it is about an alien race who basically "made" man to be a weapon. There is a secret corporation called Chronos, they found the remains of the aliens experiments. Then they took the next step, by making people who can turn into monster-like creatures called Zoinoids. To combat the Zoinoids, the aliens also made suits of Bioboosted Armor. Which when put on a human, became "out of control" which in their language was known as Guyver.

It is a very cool show, full of blood, lots of dismemberment, and loads of action.
IMO the 2005 series is the better of the series, but the '80s series is pretty good as well (it just does not go quite as far along as the 2005 series does.)

Both are based on a Manga, which has never come out in English that I am aware of.

Kingoji
10-25-2007, 02:41 AM
Viz released volumes one to seven of the manga, but ended on a rediculous cliffhanger (Gyot and Archanphel), but a chinese publishing house has been translating the series to english also. Chuang Yi, I think... I'd have to check. They did volumes 1 - 8, and have just picked up the lisence for volumes 9-15. The manga in japan has hit 25 volumes, and the creator, Yoshiki Takaya, has decided to take a little break.

EricDent
10-29-2007, 12:35 AM
So pretty soon Volume 7 (the last one) DVD of the 2005 Guyver show comes out. Which Archaphel was featured in the last volume fighting Guyot. I hope it does not turn out like that manga you mentioned. I might have to try & find that one (probably on Amazon).

BTW Kingoji that is a very nice pic. Mizuki looks very nice.

I recently picked up a new series called Mushi-Shi.

It is about a Mushi master called Ginko. Mushi are beings that are part of the natural world. You can't really see them, but they are all around. Ginko travels around Japan solving Mushi caused illness/maladies. The stories are really done well, and the visuals are just stunning. The English dub is done by Funimation, which is normally an iffy thing, but they did a really good job with this one.

So far there are 3 volumes (out of 5) availible in the USA on DVD. The last one came out last week.

Mystic Gohan
10-29-2007, 12:45 AM
Well Eric, I know how you don't like people to watch anime thats not on DVD but what are all the Geneon fans supposed to do now?

EricDent
10-29-2007, 12:57 AM
Like I said most of the popular titles will be probably picked up by ADV or Funimation. They have not said that much about the titles that were supposed to come on DVD soon. They said that retailers could order from them until that date that I put on the "Geneon calling it quits" topic. It is not quite November 11th so there are still a couple of potential Geneon DVDs.

BTW they had an article in the 50th issue of Anime Insider about Black Lagoon season 2, for some odd reason. Plus they have not said a thing about the Geneon thing yet (that I recall that is).

Like I said on another board (or maybe it was this one). I don't really care if you download stuff, I just would like to see the people who do download, actually purchase the legit DVDs more often.

Kingoji

Volume 7 will end in a similar situation the the 12 part OAV, a place full of happiness for the heroes, but also still leave many unanswered questions so they can make the sequel if it's successful enough.
I got most of my Viz manga releases from Amazon, but I think the titles have been deleted. Last I heard, two or three publishers were in negotiations for the publishing of the series from scratch, which would be better as the Viz treatment made it seem like a book for under tens.

BTW Kingoji that is a very nice pic. Mizuki looks very nice.

Thank you very much! I have a "Beastmaster" one in development, but to be honest I haven't got a clue when I'l get around to finishing it.

The English dub is done by Funimation, which is normally an iffy thing, but they did a really good job with this one.

I didn't think the distributers had anything to do with the dub?
I know that in the case of Negima!, the dubs had been done before the distributer had won the contract. That's why Negima! has so many voice actors that I always thought were ADV voice actor's. But then the Guyver series was developed in the beginning with financial backing from ADV, so I guess it varies from case to case.

EricDent
10-29-2007, 11:58 AM
I guess I thought that part of an anime distributors job was to get it dubbed.

Of course there have been exeptions to the rule, cause I own one series that is NOT dubbed, from Pioneer (Geneon). It is Magical Project S, which is only availible subtitled. Which is why I am hoping Funimation will get that show, and finally get someone to dub it.

Mystic Gohan
10-29-2007, 05:14 PM
To my knowledge they still have the production rights to the anime and the distribution rights, just not the means to distribute them. Seeing how they are looking for ways to solve the problem I doubt they will sell the rights to the competition.

EricDent
11-02-2007, 08:22 PM
Well that would be cool. I always liked Geneon's products, they seemed to respect anime a bit more than certain other companies. Plus they also seemed to get cooler shows as well.

Here is an interesting story about anime. I went to the local Gamestop to trade in some DS games for something new. Cause I beat Dragon Quest Rocket Slime (fun little game), and did not enjoy the other 3 games I traded (Spyro The Eternal Night DS, Fire Emblem GBA, and Transformers PS2). Anyways, I asked if the Bleach game for the DS was any good. The employees of the store said it was. They also mentioned that they are HUGE Bleach fans. Of course they asked me if I watch the show. I said yes, but only to whatever episode they showed on Cartoon Network.

This of course led to them trying to promote some "streaming" video site that had the episodes of the show. They said it was "legal" (yeah right), and only in Japanese w. Subs. I mentioned that I am totally against any sort of illegal watching of anime online, which this probably was. I also mentioned to a young lady, that they basically are stealling the livelyhood away from US anime companies, dub voice actors, and even local buisness (since ADV's & FUNimation's HQs are in Texas). I also mentioned that the DVDs had the Japanese langauge tracks (with subs), for about $20 each. She said that "she did not know" that they were stealling people's earnings. She mentioned that the store next door (Super HEB) had only vol. 1 of Bleach. I mentioned that you could probably find more of them at Best Buy, Amazon, or lots of other places.

I ended up buying the Bleach game for the DS, and it is a pretty fun fighting game. Of course like most fighting games, you can easilly beat it in a day. Of course if you want all the unlockable stuff, then it could take a bit longer.

A small update for you anime fans in the Austin area, there is a Anime Convention next weekend. It is at the Doubletree Hotel on I-35 and near Highland mall.

Also I picked up School Rumble up to Vol. 5 (boy is that show really darn funny!), Mushi-Shi through Vol. 4 (awesome does not begin to describe this show), Outlaw Star Collection (it has been awhile since I saw it last), and a few others. Not sure how often I will be purchasing DVDs, since I will have to start paying rent soon. Definately getting the rest of Mushi-Shi, School Rumble, and most likely the Cowboy Bebop boxed set soon.

I also picked up a couple of Manga, mostly Death Note (trying not to get past the episodes on CN), a volume of School Rumble, a volume of Strawberry Marshmallow (kind of like Azumanga Daioh, but with sisters), and Strawberry 100% (which is kind of a bit racey). Trying to find Yotsuba, vol. 1, but none of the book stores have it, maybe if I go to the convention, I will look for it.

Um, no I am not, I like grown up women, I just got it because they compared it to Azumanga Daioh (IE a slice of life story). I don't think there is any sexual overtones in that manga, of course I have only read the first volume. I really don't plan on getting any more though, cause it was not that good.

Anyways if you have been paying attention to most of the stuff I talk about, you will notice a pattern. I own a lot of Romantic Comedy anime, mostly harem anime. However, that does not mean I just like that kind of show, I also own several other genres of anime. Fanstsy, Sci-Fi, Drama, Mecha, etc.

Well since I don't plan on getting Vol. 2 of that one, I suppose I won't feel "weird" about it.

Anyways, picked up the Devil May Cry anime yesterday (silly Best Buy put it out early again, but no Cowboy Bebop early, darn!) pretty good stuff. Only watched the first episode, but it definately has potential. The weird thing is that Dante sounds a lot like Johny Yong Bosh, but the credits said Justin Cause was the voice (English dub). BTW Hillary Haag is the little girl in the show (she always seems to get those parts for some reason).

Any other suggestions would be nice, cause Mushi-Shi, School Rumble, and even Slayers are getting near the end of the show. Of course I could try to find the Slayers movies. Probably going to get Gurren Lagann when it comes out. Obviously Death Note is on the to get list, but they seem to be going rather slow with the releases of the DVDs, it seemed that when another show was running on Cartoon Network, they allready passed the on air episodes when they released the DVDs (can't remember what show).

Anyways any other new stuff on the horizon that you guys/girls are interested in?

Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpuchou seems interesting, I haven't watched it yet (too busy with One Piece), but looks pretty good. And if you haven't seen it yet, watch Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, anime rarely gets scary, but that series accomplished it

They should have used Dante's VGA. His voice in DMC was win, and it was also great in DMC 3. The show you're thinking of is Samurai Champloo btw, it was good marketing, because when I heard it was coming on [AS] I went and bought it.

True Tears and Shigofumi are apparently coming soon, at stupid highprices that I'm not willing to pay for. FLCL pricing is terrible. I recommend True Tears to you Eric, though it's not over so I don't know exactly how it will turn out.

Kodomo no Jikan is win for breaking barriers that are rarely ever broken.

Only thing is its about 12 or so episodes long all together.. and episodes 10, 11, & 12 do the tie in from the first episode.. Just love the first episode tho... Dante when at the theater and he shoots the ropes and looks at the one heir to a mansion or so (the lil girl of course). He goes "It gets R-Rated from here on out"

Pretty much whenever he says "It gets R-Rated" has some sort of comical joke crude or not. The hotel segment "Im going to be doing some R-Rated things with the beauties in my sleep" isn't he just one to say off the wall things. XD

But poor Dante at the end of episode one.. All he wanted was a strawberry sundae in the episode... >_< get a possible sundae but the lil rich girl takes it as compensation.. -_-

Just in case you try to stop reading the manga, and just watch the anime, you should know that the manga has a different ending than the anime. I recommend reading all of the manga and then finishing up the anime. Depending on who you believe is Justice, the anime's depiction may be unsatisfactory.

Hey Spirit, I forgot to mention that I saw a character from the Pheonix Wright game at Ikkicon, not sure what her name is, but she had a red suit, and greyish hair (she was carrying a sign that said "OBJECTION!!!").

OK so the manga of Death Note won't spoil the show???

Hey, have any of you heard of a manga called Emma? I heard it's pretty good, since it has probably become the main otaku-fier where I live. People my age are rarely seen with manga in their hands, but it's completely different for Finns who are only 1 year younger than me

EricDent

No I have not heard about it. Though it does sound familiar, I think there is an anime which is pretty popular under the same name. IIRC it's about a forbidden love relationship. Emma (again if I remember correctly) is a maid, who is in love with her master in Victorian Age Europe. She gets lots of encouragement to "go with her heart" to tell the master about her feelings.

Or maybe I am WAY off track, maybe you could tell us a bit more about it.

I really loved Blue Drop - Play of the Angels. It's a really tough series to describe though...

http://randomc.animeblogger.net/image/Miscellaneous/Fall%202007%20Preview/blue%20drop%20large.jpg

Kind of "school slice of life" with a bit of mystery, aliens, absolutely gorgeous spaceships, battles, yuri, and, of course, the earth ultimately being invaded and conquered by aliens in the end (I don't think that's really a spoiler, the first episode starts with earth's ambassadors being escorted to the aliens' homeworld before everything flashes back).

The ending was really moving, it's not often that anything affects me quite like it did... it did make me wonder if there's a next part planned, I know it's part of a larger manga series though the anime's its own story. At the very least, the fate of at least two major characters still seems unknown at the end.

Really beautiful and really classy. Very highly recommended.

Blue Drop was incredibly slow-ish, but I liked it. It's so slow, though, that I have yet to finish it, and have long since forgotten where I was. I also had very little idea of why what was happening, was happening.

Miang
03-23-2008, 11:13 PM
I liked the slow, though deliberate might be a better word, pace myself. Things happen for a reason, and the impending invasion gives a certain sense of finiteness to everything that's going on. There's a feeling that things are out of anyone's control and the world's soon going to change, no matter whether it should or who what or what gets harmed by it.

It also gives a feeling that relationships develop naturally; whether we're talking about Mari coming to grips with school life or understanding the truth of what happened five years ago or Ekaril trying to come to grips with what path she should take now. I liked that part especially, too many series things just seem to fall into place because they're supposed to, not because they should or it's really believable that they do.

Of course, tastes are individualistic and your mileage may vary but why not try it again? There's a lot of plot threads to keep track of, you might find things stand out a bit better the second time around too.

Series or so is called "DearS". Its a bit moderate paced imo. But hell the things that go on in the series all seem to have a title that goes in place with the episodes. (Episode 4 being called "Wipe Your Mouth" and the last phrase out of the episode was a guy who controls or was a creator of the DearS says "Wipe Your Mouth" to the DearS oddly enough is cat-like girl with a mass amount of chocolate over her face.)

Overall the story is okay. Seeing its about a race of Aliens whom landed on earth and have been co-siding with humans for a while and seems the story is about on the adaptation of a startling event to take place.

Think its best I just throw this at ya for a better description

EDIT: @ Eric - Eh its somewhat like it still wish it didn't just get cut off with the last decision on at the last episode. I mean come on now. Im curious as to what there on about.

Two people having the gift. The gift being a rumor of DearS mythology sorta. And at the end someone wakes up which the whole last few episodes was where the whole reason was on about. Yes Manga Wise but hell it took forever to look around for em and find em. And meh the first 50 eps story line was okay. Still has some things to be filled in. And things to finish up on. Okay, today's obscure Japanese lesson begins. Pencils ready?

Yaoi (Helpful acronym, "Yamete! Oshiri ga itai!" Okay, not really, but it's still fun and easy to remember.) - Explicit eroticism between male characters, pretty much. Oddly or not so oddly, the principle market for it seems to be teenage girls.

Shounen Ai ("Boy Love")- Involves romantic relationships, though not explicit, between male characters. A good example might be Loveless, say.

Yuri ("Lily") - A mixed category that includes both explicit and non-explicit lesbian relationships.

Shoujo Ai ("Girl Love")- Yet another unfortunate English-speaking misunderstanding based upon extrapolating Shounen Ai to classify stories involving non-explicit lesbian relationships. Unfortunately, to actual native Japanese speakers, it already means a relationship between an adult male and an under-aged girl. Oh well...

Remember, there will be a quiz.

I thought Shuffle! was one of my favorites, unfortunately all I remember is my undying love for Primula, that I probably liked the crazy Kaede, and I hated the winner. Americans (IE ANN) seem not to be taking well to it though, it is a couple years late, after all. It's far deeper than just some harem, but early on it seems like standard fare.

I also remember Magikano not being worth it. You can take that however you like.

Did they make an Ouran High School Host Club live-action show? Cause yeah, it did look a bit similar to that (from what I have seen in pictures). The only thing missing were the purple/pink school jackets.

It seemed a bit more focused on the girl/her boyfriend. According to some people there, in the Manga version they never figure out that she is a girl.

The show also features a home room teacher that everybody is afraid of. Can't remember the name. The show was similar (IMO) to Negima (but with guys instead of girls) but with an older professor (the boys commented on how "good looking" the new home-room teacher was). For some odd reason the guy who played the professor looked a bit like Bill Bixby from the old Incredible Hulk series. Another part of the show they had a "festival" during the final exam week, and there was a part that featured a bunch of people dressed up in animal costumes singing a song that sounded like the Japanese version of "I met a bear". You know the song:

The other day,
I met a bear,
Out in the woods,
away out there. [Point]

ETC...

Any other ideas about the show. I think the logo of the acadamy may have been an OS. So maybe it was Ouran...

So I picked up the last Newtype magazine (they switched it to a new magazine called PIQ), and watched the 3 full episodes on it.

Shuffle=Pretty interesting for a first episode, which is why I picked up the first volume. Girls look nice, nice artstyle, and the backgrounds are very well done.

Emma=Very nice, even in Japanese (no dub, unlike the other 2 episodes). Emma looked very nice, and Johnathan was pretty cool (heck if I had blue eyes I could almost cosplay as him). Hopefully they bring this over on DVD soon!

Zegapain=Meh, probably cause it was episode 11, and I did not know who the heck they were. Obviously there is a bit of "Matrix" feel to the show, but the episode features someone dieing, and I really did not feel for the person.

Now all I have to watch is the DVD that came with Otaku USA which has Aquarion, and 2 episodes of Boys Be...

Also picked up the Death Note book about the L.A. Murders (as mentioned in the show). Have not read it yet, so please don't spoil it.

BTW the Bleach movie is also coming to theaters like the Death Note film is:

They're apparently hashing out the details with Gurren Lagann. Given that it's such an epic piece of work, I expect that they're planning something appropriate for it.

Or...apparently not.

We're getting the first light novel of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya here in 2009! Although I'll probably be like 25 by the time they're done translating them all...=/

Now, I just wish they'd translate and release the Rental Magica light novels. The anime sucked, but the light novels look like they'd be epic.

Well acording to Anime News Network, Bandai got the rights to Gurren Lagann, instead of ADV. So maybe we will get a boxed set instead of individual discs.

Also there are rumors that since Adult Swim loves Bandai so much, that this move increases the chances of this show being shown on that block.

Anyhow, I got Shuffle Vol. 2, and I am definately liking this show. One thing I noticed is that certain voice actors from another "harem" anime Happy Lesson are in this one (at least in the English dub). The one thing that kind of annoyed me about that show (Happy Lesson) is that the scientist "Mom's" rival, kept saying Chitose's name like the cheesy chip name CHEETOS...

Any ways, I also got the 2 pack of New Cutey Honey (not too bad), and Kekko Kamen (definately not P.C.). Cutey Honey has a lot of references to Mazinger Z (AKA Tranzor Z), cause the Grandpa is some sort of cyborg, and all his weapons are the Mazinger Z weapons (he even says the attack name before he does them). Two older shows in their entirety for $18 is not too shabby.

BTW how the heck they pulled off a live-action version of either show (Cutey Honey or Kekko Kamen) I have no clue, due to the absurd amount of nudity in both anime (Kekko Kamen is nude the whole time!).

Also getting near the end of Cowboy Bebop, which will be the first time I actually watched the entire show, before I just watched the episodes that featured Radical Edward, just cause she is so darn funny. There are other episodes that are just as funny, with Spike & the rest of the gang!

OK for some odd reason my DVR did not record Bleach, Death Note, or Code Geass. I watched Death Note & Geass on Adultswim.com (they have other stuff on there as well).

Geass was pretty interesting for a first episode, and the dub cast has to be the most awesome gathering of voice actors in the history of English dubs! They have Johny Yong Bousch, Crispin Freeman, Steve Blum, and loads more.

Death Note is getting pretty interesting as well, with the introduction of the "Successors" to L, Mello (M), and Near (N).

So does anything cool happen in Episode 61 of Bleach? Aizen was being all "broken" last time with him "killing" Momo, slashing Hitsugaya, and pretty much talking a lot about his Zanpakutō.

SpiritOfFire

I think the cast is great as far as American voice actors go. The voice acting, casting, and execution, however, were terrible. It's unwatchable to me without Pizza Hut and ***uyama Jun. Though Crispin Freeman did a wonderful job as Orange-kun.

The Death Note Mello Voice was bad, the Near voice was equally as bad. I didn't even watch this half subbed and I know that the voices don't match.

Episode 61 is basically the beginning of the end of Soul Society. Aizen reveals himself as the bad guy of Bleach, tells Ichigo why Urahara sent him to save Rukia, which was to get the Hogyoku, and he basically tells the history of the Hogyoku which is used to make Vizards and Arrancar.

OK so yet again Best Buy goofed and put out anime early! I got Black Blood Brothers vol. 3, and Shuffle vol. 3 a week early! They also had Death Note vol. 4 a day early, but I will wait on getting that one. The only one missing from the May 5th list was Magikano vol. 3, might go and see if I can find it later this week at another Best Buy (when I look for the 2 Godzilla movies that come out tommorow). BTW I kinda cheated a bit on my promise, I watched Bleach ep. 61 dubbed on a certain video site with tube in the name...Aizen was pretty darn broken!

Well, I realized that around episode 10 or so, but meh. If it weren't for the fact that the entire anime feels like one big filler arc, it could've been amazing. Still, the plot premise looks epic. I would love for the light novels to be translated.

Geass's English cast annoyed me somewhat. JYB just isn't right for Lelouch. I mean, ***uyama Jun was his seiyuu, and with a standard like that set.... Lelou should've gotten a more... uh... I don't know. All I know is that he'd have been better off with a different VA. CC's VA seemed pretty emotionless in the trailers, but I haven't seen a whole episode yet, so perhaps it's too quick to judge. They have it all on AdultSwim's site, right?

Pizza hut was indeed the best part. I mean CC in almost every episode has a pizza scene someplace. And im wondering ASwim will even show the one episode. Without butchering it fully. Episode 15 I think it is have to double check. Was the one or two right after LeLouch is unmasked by Shirley. Well more like mask fell off after taking severe damage. And she wash brainwashed of the sort. Along with one of the Britannian Elites.

Well we see her The Elite, with no memory in a bed with a Black Knight guard sitting at a desk chair. She wakes up clothes are off bed cover slips off then and there full top front showing from waking up in what looked like a nightmare wake up.

They probably would have it at Barnes & Noble as well.
Try there or FYE/Suncoast. BTW I am officially through with Amazon, they were going to take a month for some mangas I ordered to arrive, I re-ordered them from Barnes & Noble and they got here in about 2 weeks.

It would be nice to see what happened to the rest of the Bebop crew.

Since they are doing a Trigun movie, why not another Bebop movie?

I just finished the first episode of Code Geass's dub....

"Badass mother"
That is just... pathetic. Who's the one in charge of translation/localization?

JYB screwed up at the end of the first episode, if you ask me. That was supposed to be such an epic scene, but the way he read his lines when he declared himself as "Lelouch Vi Britannia" was just... anti-climatic. I doubt anyone took notice to what he said right there. Still, it is a somewhat new role for him, so I guess there's a chance he'll improve.

Oh, and the funny thing is, ルルーシュ is actually closer to how I'd think it would sound in French than the English pronunciation of it. La-loosh is how they're doing it right now.

EricDent

I am sure that the DVD version will be better, remember they do have to tone it down a bit for it to show on Adult Swim. It would be different if it was on say Showtime, but since it is a normal cable channel they have to censor it a bit.

BTW is there another season of Black Blood Brothers in the works? Cause the ending of the show left it pretty open for a sequel. Also the Magikano ending was a bit lame, so they seal the Deamon King (who just happens to be the main guy of the show), but in order to do so, they have to set the clock back a year?

Th3DarkCloud

It's not really the censoring that's the problem with the dub of Geass. Most of the VA cast is fine, but Lelouch and Kallen, two of the major characters, are pretty bad. They should've gotten Tara Strong for Kallen and... uh... I don't know... someone else for Lelouch.

That, and some of the lines seem weird when localized. Do they really expect people to take the show seriously when there's weird lines like "You boys no full well what this badass mother can do!"

The Badass Mother line caused unintentional lulz, and like I've said many times, he cannot do Zero. When ***uyama Jun delivers lines to Nunnally, I think JYB could fit that part well, but any time he's planning or making epic speeches, I don't think JYB can do it without sounding like his same old self. He just can't do evil, I believe. They theoretically could hire another person because like most anime paradoxes, nobody ever figures out that Lelouch and Zero have the exact same voice.

The main problem with dubs in general, is that the voice actors are one of the following:

A: In a union, so they can't work for a non-union job (like ADV/Funimation).
B: Doing another show for another company (like Funimation/ADV).

There is pretty much only a few places that USA anime companies do dubs for shows.

Callifornia, Vancouver Canada, and Houston/Dallas.

Mr. Bosch is a pretty in-demand voice actor, so he gets lots of job offers. BTW did anybody see him when he was doing the 15th annivesary show for Power Rangers (on Operation Overdrive). He reprised his role as Adam Park, and when he was fighting sounded EXACTLY like Ichigo does in Bleach...

Also he does have a different range, maybe he should do the voice he used for Michael Garret in Gun X Sword.

The one thing I don't get though, is why they make unneccesary changes.

Anyways, I went again to the Anime Club at University of Texas, this time I stayed almost the entire time. We watched 5 CM Per Second (which was pretty looking, and pretty depressing), another episode of that weird Live Action show (it's set in Osaka High School, it is a Shojo show, and there are 3 dorms who were having a competition to see who got to go to Hawaii, they tied, then they had a track & field event where a guy broke a high jump record, and the cheerleader squad were all guys (with the exception of the girl in disguise), someone found her passport and revealed that there is a girl at the school), then we watched Legend of the Galactic Heroes (really long and rather old looking show), Princess Tutu (looked pretty funny), and finally Himini-Ke (which is uber hillarious).

Also picked up the first volume of Lucky Star at Best Buy (again it was out early), and watched the first 2 episodes. The show is pretty off the wall, and a bit odd. It kind of reminds me a bit of Azumanga Daioh, perhaps cause it is also based on a 4-Panel manga like Azumanga Daioh.

You mean Minami-ke, right? It was the best comedy of the Fall this year.

I wonder if the Lucky☆Star dub is any good. Doesn't matter though, I really wonder how they're gonna swindle their way around all the otaku references, which basically make up the whole show. It's kinda hard to understand Konata if you aren't into Doujinshi and Eroge, and all those other otaku trends.

EricDent
05-04-2008, 12:31 PM
Oops, I guess it was Minami-Ke...

Let's see Lucky Star has Wendee Lee as Konata, Kari Wahlgren as Kagami, Michelle Ruff as Tsukasa, & Karen Strassman as Miyuki.

They use the -san, -chan thing in the dub. So far the only anime/video games stuff I have seen is a reference to Street Fighter, & Tekken. They do reference Haruhi Suzimiya in a Taiko drum rhythm game.

Of course I have only seen the first 2 episodes so it might go more into that a bit later. The DVD comes with some liner notes about stuff seen in the show. BTW the deluxe box-set (which I could not find) comes with a "Sailor Suit" T-Shirt, a Chocolate Corronet Screen Wipe, and 2 Character CDs.

Slight update, watched the other 2 episodes of Lucky Star (4 episodes a DVD,with 24 episodes, hmm sounds like maybe 6 DVDs).
It mentioned something about how Konata's dad used to play H-Games with her...
I like the fact that each show has a different ending song, which are versions popular tokusatsu & anime songs. Of course they don't dub the songs, so it's in Japanese. Also watched the "special announcement" bit (which is just Konata sounding like she was really bored, making a hmmmph noise the whole time), and the live-action "Adventures of Minoru Shiraishi" which was pretty strange.

So I went to Best Buy to check if they had put out anything else early. They had not, but I stumbled upon a new show to watch. That show is Ragnarok, it is based on a RPG-type game (or is it the other way round). Very similar to Dragon Quest/Final Fantasy type games, lots of people helping the main characters out. BTW it was a pretty good deal, 2 discs with 9 episodes (in the vol. 1 case) for $19.99, and comes with a coupon for 1 free month of the game (I guess it's a MMORPG). I also got Death Note #4 for $14.99 (4 Episodes).

What are you talking about? What the heck is RakiSuta?

I'll answer, since Odd here missed it.

RakiSuta would be the romaji for "Lucky Star". Bascially, he's just saying Lucky Star.

To make it easier for English speaking people to pronounce, you can think of the pronunciation being similiar to "Rucky Staa". The "t" should be a soft "t". I'm not sure if English has any words with "t" pronounced like that. Actually, English is pretty weird (weird as in rare, uncommon, unique) in the way that it pronounces the sound for "t". No other language that I know pronounces it like that (though I'm sure there are some).

So anyhow, I picked up the second volume of Devil May Cry the anime and it is still going pretty strong, for a 12 episode show this is pretty decent.

Also got Slayers Try, only on the 2nd of 4 discs, but I like what I see so far. Lina, Gourey, Amelia, and Zelgadis are up to their usual shenanigans, and Xellos is also back. Joining the cast this time is Filia a Priestess of The Fire Dragon King, who changes into a Gold Dragon.

BTW they are supposed to be making another Slayers show in Japan soon, called Slayers Revolution.

So I just finished Slayers Try, and I am now about out of shows to watch, I have just Death Note left to watch (I am watching in Japanese), and I could not find Go Lion at Best Buy...

Maybe I need to get a new game for the DS...

So how is Basilisk? I have seen that they have a boxed set of that (as well as Trinity Blood, which was OK, but not that good). I am sort of into Ninja (as long as they don't wear orange jumpsuits...)

Probably going to check out Full Metal Panic when the boxed set comes out (Kind of weird that the 2nd set came out before the first...)

Any other suggestions, just remember it has to be on DVD, since I am an active supporter of that format. Also if possiblle the show has to be under 50 episodes.

Stuff I have picked up recently includes:

Shuffle (up to vol. 4)
Devil May Cry (vol. 2)
Magikano (finished)
Black Blood Brothers (finished)
Slayers Try (finished)
Death Note (Vol. 4)
Welcome to the NHK (vol. 4)

Future purchases include:
Shuffle vol. 5
Welcome to the NHK vol. 5
Death Note vol. 5
Devil May Cry vol. 3
School Rumble OVA
School Rumble Second Season (whenever it comes out)
Sasami (if it is Sasami Magical Girls Club)
Gurren Lagann (when they dub it)
Slayers Revolution (when it comes out in the USA)
Negima!? (if it ever comes out that is)

So feel free to make suggestions (if you do make sure to read the list of anime I own, which should be a page back or so).

So I found a couple of new things to watch, but they won't last long.

Cyborg 009 (The one they showed on Cartoon Network like 2 times), has 8 episodes (got it at Half-Price Books). INot sure why they never did finish putiing this on DVD...

Slayers Return-the movie after Slayers the Motion Picture, only an hour long, got it at a place called Gamefellas.

BTW I also went to Best Buy to see what they had, and saw a really good deal (or is it?) Tekknoman (Complete Collection) for $13.99! Also it seems that they are starting to mark down some older anime 2 Disc bundles, cause I saw the first disk of Basilisk bundled with the first disk of Trinity Blood for $9.99, used to be $19.99.

Ended up not getting anything at Best Buy, besides Pokemon Diamond (though I beat Pearl allready).

They did have the dub of that show, it was called "When They Cry" and it was being distributed by Geneon over here. So they only got up to volume 3 (of 6 or 7) so it would only be half the show (cause Geneon is dead).

I posted the list over on the Godzilla Community Chat board (they have an anime topic as well, and this one was over there for a while). Someone suggested "Air", have you seen it? And is it good?

Also no one answered my question about if Basilisk, or Tekknoman are a good show.

BTW on the topic of Yotsuba vol. 6, and a few other ADV manga titles, there is an article on Anime News Network saying they are hopefully "coming soon"...

I think Geneon has something in the works. I'll find out eventually.

I saw Air, it was incredibly touching, and very Key. If you get it, I recommend you watch it subtitled. It gets pretty damn boring once it finished the story though.

Well, I can say that Basilisk is a good series. There's a little detail in the setting that I find interesting: There really is no "good team" or "bad team", just people trying to kill each other

OK then, since I am going to have a B-Day soon, hopefully I will get some gift cards to use to try to buy some of the suggestions you said.

I got a new show today Project Blue Earth SOS vol. 1 (of 3). Have not watched it yet, but it looked interesting from the preview I saw on another DVD I have.

Both Air and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni were great. If Higurashi really is that hard to find in the US, go with Air. It's only 13 episodes, but very memorable. To be honest though, Higurashi is one of my all-time favorites. If I ever see it at Suncoast, I'll probably buy it.

I'd much prefer it if they released Blu-ray discs of whole seasons though. All 50 episodes of Higurashi in 2 discs with high resolutions would be an instant-buy from me.

EricDent

The Higurashi (known as "When they Cry" in the USA) show is not being produced anymore in the USA currently, it is because Geneon (the people who had the licence) basically went out of business in the USA. They might come back someday, but for now lots of shows futures (at least on DVD) are seriously in question. Shows like Hellsing Ultimate, and Tenchi Muyo (which could have gotten some sort of "aniversary" version by now) probably would be picked up by another company in the future (if Geneon does not come back).

That Air show is from ADV and is availible in the USA (13 episodes on 4 discs). Though you probably would have to go to Suncoast (or online) to find it, cause places like Best Buy only seem to carry the most recent shows.

So I found a couple of interesting new shows to watch.

I ordered the last 2 Slayers movies I needed to complete the Slayers collection (Gorgeous, and Excellent), got Go Lion vol. 1 (really interested to see the huge differences between the Japanese version, and the USA version, which was the Lion part of the show Voltron).

I also got a 2 episode show called Ninja Cadets, pretty short but an OK show. Found it at Half-Price books, when I went to sell some old VHS tapes.

Also got Project Blue Earth SOS vol. 1, and am really liking the show. It has a sort of retro sci-fi feel. I ordered the other 2 volumes (cause I got gift cards for my B-Day).

I also found a good deal on GTO Season 1, only $18 (normally $40!) at Best Buy. I have heard some good things about the show, and I do seem to like the High School shows a lot. Maybe the 2nd season is also $18, that would be cool.

Still no word on if Tekknoman is any good? Heck for the price that it is, I might have to grab it anyways (they have it for $13.99 at Best Buy).

Ouch. Anyone read the "Air Gear" Manga's? I think it took a turn for the worse in a real life way with a page on its chapter 206.

Now I'm going to ask before hand. Does this not scream some form of....... Political Statement. So much right there only except for the name a bit off. But heck its a dead giveaway showing a thing going on in the US.. <_<

If ya want the link. Let me know. Have the image itself also but not to sure on if im given the okay to post scanlated manga chapters. Even if this is a anime discussion board. But with the whole odd things of piracy.

BTW I have noticed something lately, ADV seems to be re-releasing some of their Thin-packs. Such as Final Fantasy Unlimited, Full Metal Panic, and a few others. These are not the same thin-packs as before, cause I have the Final Fantasy one, and the old one had 5 discs, and the new one has 7...

Plus they seem a bit pricey, $80 for the whole series of Full Metal Panic?
Not like I plan to spend that much on them currently, cause I am cutting back on spending for a bit, to save some $.

Of course I will pick up a few titles once in a bit, like Death Note, Lucky Star, Devil May Cry, Welcome to the NHK, and Shuffle.

OK so I watched the first 2 episodes of Golion, and I have to say is though it is a tad different than the English version (which was the first season of Voltron). It had some simularities as well, and whomever cast the English voice actors for the Voltron version is a freaking genius, cause they sound almost identical to the Japanese, and the one person who is exactly the same (except in a different langauge) is Emperor Daibazaal (AKA King Zarkon in Voltron). Also the witch Honerva (Haggar) is pretty darn similar as well.

The main differences is lots more blood, violence, and other stuff they cut out of the English version (this was the 80s, so they had to deal with just network & UHF channels, since cable was in it's infancy). Obvious name changes, changes to the name of the planet (Altea, instead of Arus). Also Allura is called Fala (and she just turned 16 according to Raible (Coran)).

Anyways, also watched episodes 3 & 4 of Project Blue Earth SOS. Still pretty cool, a little bit more drama in these episodes, cause the aliens are using the bodies of dead people to blow up stuff. It also looks like Penny is getting a girlfriend like his buddy Billy has.

OK a more serious topic for discussion. The magazine Newtype USA was replaced by another magazine called PiQ, and was also recently cancelled.
Both were run by ADV, and all of the employees of those magazines were laid off recently. ADV has cancelled several participations at anime conventions recently, and it is still up in the air as when their manga titles will be published again.

Is this another Geneon waiting to happen? Is ADV, one of the former largest anime distributors (now like 3rd if compared to Funimation & Viz) going out of buisness soon? Is the anime industry in the USA in that much trouble, cause of rampant fansub downloads? Or is it just another factor in the possible upcoming recession? With gas prices probably going to rise yet again (just around July 4th) are anime fans (and people in general) buying less stuff?

I say yes, I have also reduced a bit on buying DVDs, and probably won't pick up anything new until Batman Gotham Knights comes out in July. Of course I am also working a bit more often at work, so maybe I will have more $ to possibly spend soon.

Your thoughts on this subject, and any other anime subject are always welcome, please help this board by contributing.

Time for another recommendation.

Dai Mahou Touge (Great Magical Mountain Pass)

Tell me if this sounds familiar. In a faraway magical country, the magical princess (Punie) must come to earth for one year to study humanity before she's eligible to become to the ruler of her kingdom.

What makes this series fun is that it's a pure parody of every other series that starts out with a premise like that. The magical kingdom could be charitably described as fascist, recently taken over in a military coup by the witch Esmerelda (Punie's mother) who has no greater delight than watching her children trying to kill one another for the privilege of finding which one is most suitable to follow after her.

Princess Punie herself is the very incarnation of pure and malevolent evil (Her magical incantations start with "Lyrical Tokarev, Kill Them All!"). She's served by an army of fanatically loyal sentient vegetables, she's a master of joint stretching and bone-breaking submission holds (which she believes to be the only truly lady-like means of physical combat), she has a special fondness for the sayings and military campaigns of Oda Nobunaga, oh and she intends to conquer the entire world once she becomes Queen but that goes without saying, right?

In obligation to magical girl standards Punie has a cute animal mascot, Paya-tan, who is incidentally and quite hilariously voiced by the same guy who does Alucard's voice in Hellsing. She gained her mascot by defeating him in brutal one on one combat in the cute animal mascot village and after which he swore that she would never again know rest or comfort because the moment her guard was down he would murder her where she stood - to which Punie laughed and said that if she didn't surround herself with such people, she could never hope to become Queen. Paya-tan's attitude has more recently softened towards Punie as he's come to believe that she may truly be the person he can follow down to Hell, though he still does try to murder her every now and then just to keep in practice.

Other characters include Anego - the leader of a girl gang who had the misfortune of becoming both Punie's first victim and worse her ongoing favorite victim. Tetsuko, the show's obligatory nice, good-hearted character who tends to become the fall girl because can't seem to get it through her head that Punie is not a nice person and the Magical Kingdom she comes from is powered by slave labor ("It's so hard to find a solution to poverty.") And Pyun and Potaro, Punie's younger twin sisters who've come to earth to try and assassinate big sis.

It's a bit short at only eight episodes but it's really fun while it lasts. Highly recommended.

A small clip (If you do click, good luck trying to get this out of your head):

Um, the video is not accessible anymore (they are starting to crack down a bit more on stuff like that on Youtube). Though I did see a bit of another video, looks pretty funny.

Any chance that it is on DVD in the USA? Cause a good parody show is usually pretty good. BTW they sort of did a similar thing with Puni Puni Poemy (but they were spoofing Sailor Moon in general).

Miang

That's weird, still works for me in Firefox - tried Safari too just in case it was playing from cache or something and it worked again. Still comes in search too. It's a one minute clip of an unlicensed show, I think fair use pretty well covers it even if there were anyone around to kick up a fuss.

Who knows? Probably not a whole lot, there's a lot of stuff that never gets picked up. A "magical girl" parody is pretty likely to slip through the cracks all together considering that only a few magical girl shows make it over in the first place.

I did see Puni Puni Poemy and didn't really care for it (I think I only laughed once, at the spinning-ball trick). Pretty strong odds though that "Punie" is a reference to it though.

OK so who watched the Sci-Fi Channel's newest show last night? If you were living under a rock, I am talking about Tenga Toppa Gurren Lagann. They showed the first 2 episodes in a row, and yes it was dubbed (and a pretty good dub BTW). Then they showed Now & Then, Here & There (also 2 episodes) which was pretty interesting as well.

Also I picked up the Wild Arms TV anime, which is based on the first 2 Wild Arms games for the PS1, so far it is pretty good.

Lots of manga as well, including Strawberry 100% 5, Strawberry Marshmallow 5, Death Note 10-13, Welcome to the NHK 1-7, Slayers 6-7, and Midori Days 4-8 (need to find the rest of Midori Days & Slayers).

OK, here is a question, why do you always seem to "dis" the dub of anime shows? Most of the dubs now are at least decent, and quite a few are really good (and yes I have watched both versions of the shows I own). The voices might not be exactly the same as the Japanese version, but it is a totally different language, so maybe you could cut them some slack. The voice actors are mostly normal everyday joes (like you and me) with a talent for acting with their voices. I admit that some dubs are really bad (Lost Universe for example), but others are awesome (s-CRY-ed for example).

Also take this song to heart:

Because dubs today are unsatisfactory. The point you made is exactly the problem, they are just normal people. I agree that there are some very nice ones, and there are "decent" ones. I shouldn't have to settle for decent when a character should sound epic.

I have alot of dubs I like, I'm not a purist. It just happens that in this thread I never talk about them.

Anyways, it was not out yet (maybe Viz has more control when they ship stuff). So I picked up some other stuff. The GokuSen (complete series 13 episodes, $15), Teknoman (complete series 43 episodes $14), and a new ADV 2 pack (Cosplay Complex, My Dear Marie both complete series/OVAs $14).

08-07-2008, 12:51 AM
I also enjoyed the show Case Closed during it's brief run on Cartoon Network. Probably one of the few "Murder Mystery" type anime shows. I suppose they were afraid to show it cause of all the blood, plus it is really really really long (it's over 500 episodes now!). I might try to rent/netfilx the season sets once they all come out (there are going to be at least 20 of them).

Anyways, just finished watching Wild Arms Twilight Venom. Which is based on Wild Arms 1 & 2nd Ignition games for the PS1 (which I have played in the past). Basically it is the story of Sheyenne Rainstorm a mysterious young boy. He claims that he was a 25 year old man, but somehow he has the body of a 10 year old boy. He meets up with several interersting characters. Including Issac a Popepi Pipepo (or a small rodent like creature that can talk), Kiel a huge guy who may or may not be an enemy agent, Mirabelle a member of the Noble Race (sort of Vampires), Loretta Oratorio who is a crest sorceress (uses cards to cast spells), and finally Jerusha another Popepi Pipepo who just happens to be Issac's ex-wife (they still love each other).

Pretty interesting story based around the fact that Sheyenne might be a reincarnation of "The King of the Evil Race", and is pretty focused on him getting his real body back, as well as trying to pick up ladies. The one lady he really wants is Laila a mysterious woman he dreams about. I won't spoil the show, but let's just say it is a somewhat nice ending for everybody involved.

Speaking of that.

Last night (or early Sunday depending on where you live) they showed the first episode of Morbito Guardian of the Spirit on Adult Swim.

It looked pretty, the story was interesting (at least for a first episode) and again it was dubbed by Bang Zoom. The only voice actor that I recongnized (during the credits) was Yuri Lowenthal (who is a guy BTW, I thought it was a woman cause he does loads of young guy roles.) Probably the most famous role he does is Sasuke on Naruto. He is also Simon on Gurren Lagann, Joshua on Gun X Sword, Suzaku on Code Geass, and Leo in Scrapped Princess. He was also Bobby Drake/Iceman in Wolverine and the X-Men, as well as playing Superman on the recent Legion of Superheroes show.

So I went to Best Buy today to grab Shuffle vol. 6. Decided not to get the box, cause it was like $15 more, for just a box (and those infamous "God" panties in the box).

Was looking around and spotted a rare copy of Welcome to the NHK vol. 5, it's rare cause it was put out like 2 days after the big ADV meltdown, and only a few hundred copies got sent out to Best Buy.

Also recently picked up the 2 vol. set of Code Geass as well. Have heard there was some problems with the DVDs, hopefully mine are not messed up. I have not watched them yet, cause I am in the middle of Teknoman, & The Gokusen.

You did not know about the Shuffle Vol. 6 end series box comes with a pair of "God" panties? Or that Welcome to the NHK was cancelled by ADV, only to be rescued by Funimation (which still has not said when vol. 6 is coming out)?

Finished the GokuSen show. Not too bad for a 13 episode show. I was expecting a bit more comedy, but it was more of a drama.

Checked to see if my Code Geass DVDs worked, and they did. All I have to say about those Picture dramas, are they are very interesting (especially the bath one).

Anyways, apparently Adult Swim really wants to absolutly kill the Anime block.

Cause they did this to the schedule.

Bleach (Ok new shows)
FMA (OK if you have never seen it cause it's on ep. 1)
2 Hours of their crappy comedy (Squidbillies, Assy Mcgee, 12 Oz Mouse, etc).
Repeat

then at 5 AM

Code Geass
Morbito

Glad I have a DVR, cause there is no way that I would ever last until 5 AM.

So I got Hellsing Ultimate Vol. 4 today, watched it, loved it.

It was great, the only problem is that yet again there is a cliffhanger at the end. So just wondering if anybody knows anything about a possible 5th (and probably more parts) any time in the near future?

As hoped all the cast on the dub side stayed the same, so we can hear the awesomeness of Crispin Freeman as Alucard at least once more.

Not too much comic relief in this one (the last one had a really funny bit with Seras being a tour guide in a museum). Though the "Fox Boy" (who looks a lot like Seras) did have a funny bit with her.

The Major's speech about war is really interesting (and if you grab the limited edition version, you can "karaoke" along to his speech).

Also finished Teknoman, it was kind of predictible, but also kind of interesting as well.

Maybe I might try to find Tekkaman Blade 2 (since it is a different version of this show).

Thanks for the info.

Just a quick update, they finally announced when the rest of Welcome to the NHK would be out. Sometime in November. The only problem, is they are NOT doing an individual DVD release for Vol. 6 (or 5), but are doing 2 "Part" boxes so if you want to get the last volume, you have to re-buy vols. 4 & 5 as well. They are doing part 1 as vols. 1-3. Also the Red Garden series (which also was stopped at vol. 5) is also being released like this.

This really does not make any sense, since they re-released the individual Hellsing Ultimate DVDs, but they can't be bothered to release a single DVD release for these shows?

Just found out that the next release of School Rumble (which comes out next week) will be a 13 episode "Set" as well, which I guess is a good thing if you want to save $. However, unless you have seen the first season, or know about the show, buying a 13 episode chunk might seem like a bit of an investment. They are also doing that for Ouran High School Host Club as well.

I went to the library (which is a really good place to check out for FREE anime) and picked up Chobits.
Never seen it before, but after watching Code Geass, I kind of liked the look of Clamp's art-style. This show is pretty funny, and cute at the same time. The English dub is really good and features Crispin Freeman, Tony Oliver, Wendee Lee, and Michelle Ruff.

OK that show is part of the new "season" in Japan, right?

It is kind of weird that Anime News Network would do some sort of reviews on the shows, when they are pretty anti-fansub.

Anyhow, I guess Funimation must have listened to the fans that complained. Because they are going to release the individual volumes of the shows like Red Garden & Welcome to the NHK. The catch is they have not said when they will release them (I think it would be about the time the boxes come out which is December, not November like I said), and I think they are only going to sell them on Right Stuff online.

They're pretty much tsundere bastards.

OK thanks for the info.

I was thinking about possibly making a new topic for types of anime.

Each week (or 2) we would discuss a different genre of anime.

For example: 1 week we would talk about harem, the next time could be about mecha, and so forth.

What do you think?

OK finished with Chobits, and also got the manga version as well. It was pretty fun, but with a serious side as well. I might have to hunt down a DVD set for future purchase.

I also got Fruits Basket recently as well, and I watched most of it allready. It is very cute, very fun, very heartwarming, and also is a bit serious at the same time.

Also picked up Space Pirate Mito (and the follow up Aoi & Mitsuki a pair of Queens) for the really cheap price of $14. 6 DVDs worth of rather fun, and somewhat serious anime action!

BTW any feelings on the show "Best Student Council"? It is a boxed set now, and from the trailers, it kind of looked a bit like Azumanga Daioh (but with a puppet).

OK obviously nobody is paying attention again...

But maybe this bit of news might shake things up a bit.

Just announced on Anime News Network that TV Tokyo is going to charge a subscription fee for getting Naruto Shippuden with English Subtitles 1 HOUR after the Japanese broadcast is over on Crunchyroll.

As well as Viz showing it within the week on Naruto.com for free.

All to happen starting Jan. 15th.

This sounds like something that the Fansubbers are not going to be able to beat!

Also just for fun (on a bit of a whim) I picked up both Magical Witch Punie-Chan & Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-Chan.
Both were about $14 each, and with only the sub version on them. Both of them are really odd, and rather bloody as well.

We already know that, might wanna check the DBZ CC once in a while.

Also your info is wrong. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-11-17/viz-to-stream-naruto-within-1-week-of-japanese-airing

Like this link says, it's one week after the japanese release not one HOUR like you write. DB releases naruto less than one day after the TV broadcast...and it's not restricted to only streaming with 500k...which we all know sucks as far as quality goes. And don't let me go into the translations, i bet most of the subs of the Viz version subs will not include jutsu names and japanese stuff but will translate them like how the dub was...which will suck...loopy fist - no thanks.

So yeah, fansubbers ain't losing lol. (as if they'd be losing just from a naruto sub being better...like naruto really matters in the whole of the anime world...anyways)

OK I always wondered about something. The fansub fans always get so "upity" over little things.

Why would you prefer someone who is not affiliated with the actual company who is making the show doing subs (not to mention that these so-called "fans" are stealing from the creators of their favorite shows), versus the actual company (who has the script & professional translators) doing the same thing?

They're free and easy to get (I wouldn't mind paying for DVDs, if we actually got them here and the subs were actually good), and the translations are more appealing (not sure if it's the correct word to put here), like making the translations more literal (though some groups, like DB, make localizations, which I don't mind btw) and leaving the names of attacks and such untranslated. Just my opinion.

Dreiko
11-18-2008, 07:08 PM
Translations are generally of a better quality, they're by anime fans for anime fans, not by dub-import company for random 12-year olds which is the age group targeted by naruto.

And dattebayo doesn't make localizations actually, they're quite good in their translations.

Also they're not stealing anything since fansubs are the only way some places in the world can even have anime. Without fansubs i wouldn't be that much into anime in Greece...that's a pretty big debt i owe them so i'm quite faithful.

It can't be your favorite show if you don't watch it, Eric. Also, there is no difference between fansubbers and paid translators. Japanese doesn't change just because you get paid to translate it. We also recently started using closed captions on Sun5 shows like Gundam and Geass, we have the scripts, we have the resources. Things like Names in Romaji come in Magazines, which are already all over the internet.

Anyways now for another subject...

In the topic "What did you get" I mentioned that I had gotten a six month Netflix subscription. So guess what I put (mostly) on the queue.
That is right anime!

So I have several shows in the queue that I have never seen, I would like some possible feedback to see if they are worth waiting for, or if I should "bump" them up the list, or if I should just cancel.

The List:

All the Space Battleship Yamato movies (in the order of their release)
Angel Links (Set in the same universe as Outlaw Star)
Bleach first movie
Dears
Emma (Season 1)
Strawberry Marshmallow (cause I liked the manga)
Please Twins (to see if it is better than Please Teacher, which I did not like for some reason)
Tekkaman Blade (to see what it is like after seeing the Teknoman series)
009-1 (Sounded interesting)
Dragon Ball (to maybe see it uncut for the first time, since the only time I saw it was when they showed it on Cartoon Network)
Ramen Fighter Miki (I guess I could watch this on Anime News Network)
Girls High (Same as Ramen Fighter)
Lyrical Nanoha (heard some good things about it)
Digi Charat (as well as Nyo) (to see just how "cutesy" I can stand to watch)
Galaxy Angel (A-Z) (Again somebody mentioned that it is good)
Gankatsou (Interested in how they did this one)
I Me My Strawberry Eggs (I know it's kinda "weird" but the previews looked interesting)
Mahoromatic (again looked interesting)
Mezzo (seen this in the store several times, and just the cover made me kinda interested)
Comic Party/Comic Party Revolution (looked pretty darn funny)
Kujibuki Unballance (sounded funny)
Afro Samurai (missed it when it ran on Spike TV)
Samurai Champloo (Saw a couple of the episodes, but was not sure if I liked it.)
The World of Narue (again looked interesting in the previews)
Battle Athletes/Battle Athletes Victory (Something about this show grabbed my attention)
GaoGaiGar (again saw a couple of episodes, and not sure if I liked it)
Galaxy Fraulein Yuna (looked pretty interesting)

These plus a ton of Kurosawa & Samurai films, and Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli films I have never seen. As well as Paprika, Teknonokrit (SP), and a couple of others.

I'd say (these are the ones I know)
Bleach first movie- it's very good. Probably the best movie from an on-going series I've seen.
Kubijiki Unbalance- I've never really seen it. But it's based from a another series called Genshiken. A slice of live about otakus, Kubijiki Unbalance is the series tehy're always watching. If it has the same quality Genshiken has, it's really really good.
Afro Samurai- it's cool and short.
Samurai Champloo- Very good. The director is the one who made Cowboy Bebop (can't recall the name right now). So you can expect the same cool action with a great soundtack.
Kurosawa and Miyazaki movies- I always liked the movies I've seen from those two directors.

OK thanks for that. I guess I will just keep the order like it is now.

So I have now watched 4 of the 5 Yamato movies, and was kinda wondering if anybody else had ever seen them or the series. I realize that this is a very old show (back in the '70s) but a lot of people may have seen it when it got brought over as Star Blazers.

Obviously these are tied into the actual Japanese show, and thus are a bit different than the Star Blazers version.

I used to have the Star Blazers version of the show on VHS, but at 52 episodes long (and only 2 episodes on a VHS) I quickly got tired of trying to watch it. The 52 episodes were just the first part of the story, the Iscandar arc. There were 3 arcs total.

So maybe later I might do the show on Netflix, but I am not sure.

OK just in case your not up to speed...

They cancelled the Toonami Jetstream on-line service, so it is really official now. Toonami is dead.

Also Adult Swim (not sure if it was their fault) pulled Moribito from the schedule.

Been watching Negima!? Part 1, and so far it is really good. Not sure how far the show gets into the manga.

Will be getting more Netflix in the mail tommorow, after a bit of a snafu dealling with my credit card (no $ sucks). Will be resuming the Angel Links show, which is not too bad.

BTW just in case you were wondering, yes Funimation did dub the songs for the Negima!? show. And they are actually pretty good, but you can be the judge. (on the favorite intro/closing thread).

You know how I am as far as Clannad goes, so I don't remember, but Index and Geass were really localized in a way it didn't need to be. I'm sure there were others but I forget what else I watched from them.

Don't know about Geass, since I've watched gg's version, but I agree with Index, it's been way to localized.
As for their other series, they did Hayate, which I don't think was (much?) localized, Shana (same as Hayate) and Claymore, which had a literal translation (IIRC), just to mention a few.

Seems Anime6 just got a one hit KO done to it somehow. (went batsh** crazy a few weeks ago then now i try to get to the site and it brings 404 errors and so forth.)

Yeah it was probably part of a package deal from Gonzo.

Though Gonzo is going through some tough times (like pretty much everybody else) and had to lay off 100 employees. So they now only have 30 employees.

Also apparently someone burned down the house that Miyazaki said that "Totoro would love to live in".

A fire broke out at around 2:20 a.m. on Saturday and destroyed the vacant Tokyo house that is best known by its nickname, "Totoro's Home." There were no injuries. The burglary sensors that the local Suginami government had installed in the house were activated just after 2:00 a.m., even though the house was locked. The Suginami police suspect that someone may have broken into the house, and therefore they are investigating the cause of the fire as possible arson. According to the local government, the 70-square-meter (about 84-square-yard) Western-style wooden house was built in 1929.

Studio Ghibli co-founder and My Neighbor Totoro director Hayao Miyazaki described the house in the book Totoro no Sumu Ie (The Homes that Totoro Lives in). Miyazaki called the house a "home that Totoro would have enjoyed living in dearly." Through the efforts of local residents, the Suginami government had purchased the land surrounding the home after the last owner had moved out. The government had been sprucing up the house and its surroundings into a public park, which would have opened in 2010.

OK just in case you want to actually buy some anime, and live somewhat near one of These Best Buy stores (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-03-03/best-buy-anime-sale-store-list). Then I highly suggest that you get down to them ASAP! They are having a 50% off ALL anime at those locations from March 1st-21st. They are normal priced so if you have a coupon (from the Rewardzone club for example) they work!

I got Ghost Hunt (all 25 episodes), Moribito 2 disc set (first 7 episodes), and Ghost Slayers Ayashi (first 10 episodes on 2 discs) for under $65, they are normally about $125 for that stuff. I only had to drive about 40 miles to get to the store nearest to me (that was having the sale).

Sorry for not keeping up with this topic, but I have been rather busy.

I have been borrowing a TON of anime from Netflix lately and have seen several shows that are rather hard to find, or had no interest in purchasing on DVD.

Also been on a rather tight budget lately, so I have to cut back on buying stuff. I still have no internet connection at home, and can only visit this site while I am at work, or visiting my parents house.

I have been getting a few anime titles now and then, but nowhere the amount I used to buy. Right now I am maybe buying one show a month, maybe 2.

Anyways, also have been keeping up with the Bleach (missed the Code Geass, cause they did not announce it in time, and I usually have to work early on Sunday anyways).

They recently (Adult Swim) announced that Moribito was going finally get a full run of all the episodes, and that it will also come out on DVD.

Here is a list of what I have borrowed from Netflix...

All 5 of the Space Battleship Yamato movies (WAY better than that Star Blazers stuff!)
Strawberry Marshmallow (can't wait for the re-release/OVA)
Angel Links (OK, but no where as cool or fun as Outlaw Star)
DearS (Really too similar to Chobits IMO)
Emma A Victorian Romance Seasons 1 & 2 (why is this so expensive & not dubbed?)
Iczer Reborn (a continuation of Iczer 1, and still has no real end...)
Tekkonkinkreet (WEIRD!!!)
Galaxy Fraulein Yuna (OK, but not really that memorable)
Tokyo Godfathers (GREAT! really fun, kinda sad, and nice story. Again why no Dub?)
I My Me Strawberry Eggs (FUN! Cute & very heartwarming, if you don't mind a bit of "gender bending".)
Paprika (Another in the WEIRD category!)
The Cat Returns (Good family type movie, should be OK for anyone)
Porco Rosso (Fantastic!!! now on the list of my favorite Miyazaki movies, will be buying in the future!)
Pom Pokko (Fun story, a bit too preachy about environmental stuff sometimes. Yet a cool idea)
Please Twins (IMO better than Please Teacher (which I could never really "get into"))
009-1 (COOL! Awesome spy type show, not for the kids though)
Ramen Fighter Miki (OK, again not really that memorable, it seems to just fizzle out at the end)
Girl's High (Another in the "meh" category, not that it is bad. Maybe if they had dubbed this and Miki they would have been more enjoyable).
Dragon Ball Z Bardock movie (another DBZ movie, this time before the events of either Dragon Ball or DBZ happened. Was OK, but it was pretty obvious what was going to happen...)
Lyrical Nanoha (Seasons 1 & 2) (Pretty cool show for being a Magical Girl Show, loads of action, some romance, and cool powers)
Di Gi Charat (All of them): (the first show was really random and kind of boring at times, and had really crappy animation/drawings. The second show (Nyo) was a little better on animation/drawings, and was pretty funny as well. The only problem is that they basically stopped bringing this show over just when it was starting to get truely interesting. The 3rd show (Panyo Panyo) was kind of cute, but seemed to lack the humor that the 2nd show had)
Mahormatic Automatic Maiden (Good show, but the ending (on the 2nd season) blowed major chunks. Not something to bring to work to watch...)
Gankutsou (The story was really interesting, and the characters were really nicely done. The only problem was that "texture" thing that they did with all the clothes/hair was really annoying and clashed a LOT with the mood of the show).
Kamichu (Cute story, again not really an ending, but it was heartwarming and fun while it lasted)
Oh My Goddess (this is the first season which was only 5 episodes?) (Another potential for getting the rest of it (if it is ever available) from Netflix. Great characters, and funny story)
Full Metal Panic (All of it) (Watched the first season and 2 DVDs of Fumoffu) (The first season mixed comedy, action, romance, mecha, and even a bit of psychic stuff pretty well. Fumoffu is just pretty much wacky hijinks, comedy, and a bit of romance thrown in. I am waiting on the 3rd DVD of Fumoffu, so I am going to watch The Second Raid later).

Forgot one on the list above...

Mezzo (cool spy-thriller type show with some really over the top action)

Finished Full Metal Panic, I liked the show but IMO it's not worth the $100 price tag to own all 3 shows (especially since they are all 13 episode shows).

Have watched recently:

Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad (cool story, very interesting idea for an anime, lots of cool characters, and they even sing (even the dub!))

Samurai Champloo (first time actually watched the whole thing, it was pretty cool, and definately a possible purchase in the future (if I have $60 to spend))

Will watch Afro Samurai (and Ressurection) along with Beck Vol. 6 later, and then get into Magic Users Club.

Well it would depend on what you enjoy. Since most of the stuff I got is old Geneon stuff (or out of production).

If I had to go with just 1 title though I would go with Emma: A Victorian Romance. If you don't mind sub-only (no dub here) shows, it is very well done, and has a very good story, interesting characters, and a very different type of setting for an anime (set in Victorian London).

If you want something dubbed, I would say go with Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad. A quick warning though, it does have quite a bit of "bad" language.

Yeah there is a bit of swearing in the show, not sure if it is in the Japanese version, or just the dub (which was really well done IMO, who knew that Greg Ayers could sing that well using the "Negi" voice?)

Got through Nanaka 6/17, The World of Narue, Magic Users Club, and Afro Samurai (both the series & follow up). Pretty good stuff.

Also got Angellic Layer & Galaxy Angel thought they were pretty good as well.

Also rented Death Note: Relight thought it was pretty cool. Though if you have seen the show there really is not anything "new" to see. Also rented Bacanno! Vol. 4 which ended quite possibly the most weird, random, and cool show in recent memory.

Found out I can rent a large amount of titles for my 360, however I wont be sitting down to see any for this week. Last week i saw a few episodes of Gankutsou (up to 5), and I found it a bit interesting. Even as like you said Eric the textures on clothes and hair did feel a bit of a mood ruin. I was willing to put up with it and think it just might be worth it.

Everything is packed for now except my laptop so I will have to hold off on seeing anything else till I get settled in El Paso later this week.

OK just a quick update to the Netflix watched list, and an interesting listing I saw on Funimation's upcoming DVD list...SPOILERS AHEAD (just in case).

Netflix stuff I watched:

Magical Play: An interesting take on the Magical Girl type show, but again not too good of an ending, why do they always end these types of shows with a "too be continued" type ending?

Nana Seven of Seven: A very fun show about a girl who is split into 7 different versions of herself, full of wacky hijinks, and some romance. The ending was pretty decent as well.

Alien Nine: A show about young girls fighting alien monsters that started out interesting, but really fizzled out at the end. The end was very much a "too be continued" ending, but there was only 1 DVD ever released...

Jyu-Oh-Sei: Pretty interesting show about space colonization, very Norse mythology heavy (lots of people named after the gods). Again the ending was a bit of a downer, and did not really tie up the loose ends very well. Plus it was one of those shows where LOTS of the characters die...

The Familiar of Zero: Cute show about a Mage who accidentally summons a familiar from another world. The familiar just happens to be a boy, and the mage is a girl...so lots of wacky hijinks, some romance, and a bit of "harem" thrown in. This show is pretty fun, I really would like to see the other 2 animes that are based on the novels come to the US. The first one just came out though, so it might be a while...plus it was from Geneon, and is distributed by FUNimation.

Princess Tutu: I saw the end of this at the local anime club (the first time I went). Now I am watching the whole thing. Very moody, kinda sad, and very much like an anime version of a balet (which this show features quite a bit). Not sure if I remember what happens, but knowing balet, it is probably not a happy ending...

And now the interesting FUNimation news.

Mushishi Live Action movie DVD coming Aug. 25th

Dragon Ball (not Z) DVD (with eps. 1-31) comes out Sept. 15th

Sgt. Frog starts (first 13 episodes) it's 2 DVD set releases on Sept. 22

I am sure that some of the people who frequent the DBZ forum know about the DBZ Dragon Boxes...

OK thanks for that info...obviously when they make 3 shows from the same source, not all of them can be good (see Negima!, and even Negima? for this...)

BTW anybody have any info if they are going to bring out the OVAs of Negima that came with the recent special edition versions of the manga? It is called Ala Abba (or something like that), and I hear it is very similar to the actual manga...(this is for the USA BTW, I know they are out in Japan...)

OK, thanks for the info!

I did finish Princess Tutu recently, and it was not as bad an ending as I predicted.

Also watching Galaxy Angel A, which is pretty much a continuation of the other Galaxy Angel shows. Pretty mindless fun.

BTW if you have not gone to see Ponyo in the theater yet, go NOW!!!
It is possibly the cutest, and most heartwarming Studio Ghibli film. For a change, it is not that convuluted (like some of the other Hayeo Miyazaki movies) but is pretty straight forward.
