After talking to my friend Dave, he reminded me of the fun you can have with a motorcycle. I did have a bike some years ago, but I'd rather not discuss it.
Anyways, here's my question.
I expect 1 or 2 of my cars to be gone in a year, and since Dave reinstored my love of bikes, I'd like to know what kind of bike to get.
I'll admit it, I'm a Ducati fanatic....And as much as I like a 999 model, they're are just way too expensive new.
Dave pointed out the 998, and 748 which look really good as well as the Yamaha R1 models.
So, guys, can you please give me some suggestions for Crotch Rockets? Price isn't that big of an issue (well, let's keep it $25K and under).
Thanks for any and all help

I have had a Suzuki GSX-R600 for a few years, and I just got a GSX-R1000 last month. I love the model. If you have been out of it for awhile, I would suggest the 600, I've been riding constantly and even the 1000 is a HUGE power upgrade, you can definately notice it. I'm prolly not even going to do any performance upgrades on it because I don't need any more power/speed that it has now, I'd just get into trouble with it, lol. The GSX-R600 is a GREAT bike, and it's enough power, but not TOO much. If you want more as you get comfortable with it you can always do aftermarket performance upgrades. They are fairly cheap too. 2006 models are like $9,000-$11,000 (the GSX-R600 and 1000 models respectively). That's DEFINATELY under $25,000, and leave you plenty of money for a helmet and anything else you might want (jacket, riding gloves, part upgrades, etc)

Nice, but I hear the Aftermarket area for bikes is rather small? What kind of upgrades are offered? Only thing I know of is custom paintjobs, wheels, and exhausts, well, and gauges.

The only performance I did on my 600 was a new, and I had the engine tuned a little bit by a friend. I didn't even do that til like last year, I wanted to be 100% comfortable with the bike before I did any performance upgrades. I'm not huge into motorcycles, I like em a lot, but I haven't really gotten to the stage where I wanna go crazy with customizing them yet, I can feel it coming on pretty soon though, lol. I don't even have either of my bikes painted, the 600 is black and yellow, and the 1000 is blue and grey, but I am going to get that one custom painted because I don't like the colors on it, I didn't like ANY of the choices for the 2006 1000s actually, so I just chose blue/grey because that is the one they had there, I wouldn't have to wait for one to be shipped in.
As far as performance stuff, there is a LOT you can do. Rather than try and name everything, just check out this link:

It's got a BUNCH of custom stuff, from performance to looks, all broken down into categories too. I'd suggest narrowing your bike choices down to a couple of options (like a Ducati or a Suzuki etc) and then Google the performance and cosmetic upgrades available for each specific model you are interested in, then decide which model has the best customization choices for the best prices and all that.

KoenigViper, if you haven’t bought your bike yet here is some info that might be useful.
Well, it all depends on your budget, preference, and what its purpose is. For track use, twisties or daily transportation I would recommend a super sport bike (personally I own a 2004 R6 and I must say that I love it). If you want all-out power with good handling and that extra bling factor then you should go for the liter bikes. Although I assume that you are looking for Italian design and the exclusivity that it entails so I would definitely recommend you take a look at Aprilia (keep in mind that the RSV 1000R Factory is worth 18K, that is over 10 grand less than the 999R at just over 31K). The performance numbers are pretty close to the Duc and it tends to turn in better under heavy riding. Regarding the R1 and the Ducs, styling depends on the buyer so it is just a matter of preference. In performance, the Japs tend to out perform and out power the Duc considering that it is heavier and under powered, however the Duc has many strong points as well and it is definitely not to be overlooked - not only is it extremely attractive but it is also a high performance machine (in “Fifth Gear TV” it can be seen beating several cars including a Lamborghini Gallardo and a BMW M3CSL; and these cars were beaten by the regular 999 and not the R model). Its V-Twin (L-Twin) engine has a linear release of power to the rear wheel and a “personality” that cannot be matched, etc.
Regarding tuning, there are tons of things that you can do to your bike, probably as many as you can do to a car.

Thanks for the links and info Fireblade.
I've recently been set on the Aprilia RSV 1000.
It has optional color choices, many of which are 2-tone, something I like.
They also seem to be in my price range though I can't find New Price info. The only problem is that only 1 dealer sells Aprilia near me.

The regular Aprilia RSV 1000R is about 4 grand less than the Factory model. Here in “Motor City” the bike sells for $13,999 (which is the msrp). Hope this helps.

Thanks. That's definately more in my range rather than some of the Ducatis.
After December of this year, when the 330 is gone, I'll definately have to give it a real considering. Until then, I'll have to see if any of my contacts have one for test drive, or own one. This all after some schooling.:)
