SpaceWorx Full Updated release

08/24 IMPORTANT NOTICE - DOMES NOW WORK!
It was discovered by one of our members, that turning off shadows in RCT3 options
will allow you to use all the dome quarters (roof, floors, internals & toppers).
A huge thanks goes out to baz6174 for solving the mystery!

- Always use the bottom (base) part of the dome quarter to line up each dome piece. The original crash may have been a blessing in disguise, as having dome quarters is actually an advantage, in that you can now mix and match dome parts for some bizarre, yet interesting results (galaxy and star combos for the internal parts work cool too).

- The starfield dome floor has a bit of overlapping, resuting in very minor flicker in the center - but heck, stars flicker anyway, and it won't be noticed in the long run unless your building planetarium walking tours for the elderly.

- Build your dome pieces first, then your surrounding wall base, and finally lay your floor down at the end.[/COLOR]

New Curved Wall Roof Corner Added to 1.2 (left) and some Dome Quarter Madness (right)

Pre Flight Information

Most (if not all) objects use the 1/4 size grid mode for maximum enjoyment; something not aligning? The Z key (rotate) is your friend.
Some objects have their own lighting at night.
Domes are great for twisting, smaller track style coasters, so don't expect to stuff a HyperCoaster inside.
For experienced builders, there are a number of wall styles and StarWalls/Floors to build your own indoor space structure - with no limits on size.
The Decor-Rods have tiny bulbs which illuminate at night. Thanks to Vodhin's research, I was able to make the bulbs colorable. As with Vodhin's colorable lights, it is important to remember there is a limitation in that you have to choose your light color BEFORE placing the rod down. If you choose black, you'll get no illumination at all. You can also change the Rod color at any time, independently.
Mix up your starfields so they don't look like repeated patterns. Rotate, even overlap for some convincing effects. The StarCube will give more depth to outer space by adding 3D-like stars. Again, rotate and stack the Starcube for the ultimate flight - and at night, the StarCube takes on an interesting effect.
Vodhin's donated space stall can be found with the scenery items.
One item pictured during the earlier stages of Spaceworx was not included with this set… The mixmaster-made Space Rings particle which had one serious problem: It can be seen through all walls and scenery. For example, if you had it deep within your space complex, you can see the repeating rings anywhere in the park, no matter how many layers of objects were blocking it - and they were big! Unfortunately, this is a problem with the way RCT3 handles certain fireworks.

A quick sample of how to build with some of the new pieces.

....Thanks to all who commented -- I hope you enjoy, as this is my final pack for RCT3.

Wow, I'm sorry, this is going to sound really stupid but I am kind of working on a space mountain set. should I just let you do this and myself hold off on it?

looks great by the way, May I suggest that you use the texture style SIopaqueUnlit for the stars, it makes them stay bright during the day and at night (twlight zone theme)

DRP -that's ok! Are you building mainly interior stuff, or exterior? Because in the long run, they can compliment each other (see your DPR Lights have already complimented the bottom row of pix). Oh, the stars --I have them on OpaqueUnlit - but thank you for making the suggestion!

Its mainly interior, the tunnels with the strobe lights, etc. the only thing that is truly exterior is the cannon from space mountain DLP.

DRP - That's great actually, I'm not working on any of those, but they sound like awesome ideas that can be combined with this set for those who choose to mix 'em. I'm not working on an actual Space Mountain, but with the new wall sets, you'll be able to create something very close in resemblance due to the new angles introduced. The geometry on this was the most complex to model - my worse nightmare, but the end results freaked me out when everything finally interlocked.

Rybo-XL - those are Star Panels -- but there will "spacey" particle effects for sure.

This looks like another great set JCat   & one that is much needed for the game. The "Space" theme from the original game is lacking in having much content & this will surely fill the void.

Here we go again... I can already see a few possibilities with your set. If anyone of the MANY Six Flags parks out there sees it too, this would be great around a Superman ride. His "Temple of Solitude" or whatever he calls it.

CoasterSim.Fan - I just increased the brightness from the original.

Just a small update utilizing one of the wall sets included. Basically, I wanted to test them out with Vodhin's spots (upper left) and DPR's Ambiance Lightz set (bottom left). A lot of time was wasted this week just on tweaking the the alignment on many angled walls until I had the best possible fit. This is definitely the toughest for me, making Steelworx look like walk in the park.

Tomorrow I head off to Great Adventure (before the sickening summer crowds roll in), but over the weekend, I'll post a new update with newer objects.

Wow this is looking great. Very creative idea, there will be some interesting things made with this set that’s for sure. If you need any more help with the geometry I fount some math formulas that helped me get the right size and angles for my neon lights if you want I can explain them to you. You have to let us know how SFGADV was El Toro looks like it will deliver an amazing ride.

JCat
06-14-2006, 10:48 PM
Thanks everyone - just got back from Great Adventure, and I have a major headache. We had one baby with us, so everyone had to take a turn staying off one ride and watching him - I had to spend a half hour in some Bugs Bunny area with hundreds of foam balls, vacuum hoses, and mounted guns shooting these things around. Other than that, it was a crazy day. First time on Kingda Ka, 2 hour wait - my eyes came out of my sockets but it was awesome feeling your face peel off your skull. El Toro was the real surprise - I did not expect the drop on this wooodie to equal a hyper coaster, holy crap was it steep - and made the nearby old Rolling Thunder look like kiddie ride. Rolling Thunder's main lift hill was like one of El Toro's smaller hill's you'd hit near the END of the ride. I still love Nitro - my favorite in the park. Lots of rides stopped for maintenance throughout the day, so that was annoying, but overall - a good trip (evening was great, daytime was packed).

marnetmar
06-14-2006, 11:00 PM
Sounds like a great day for you JCat, aside from the Bugs Bunny attack :haha: Try & get some rest my friend

CoasterSim.Fan
06-15-2006, 12:08 AM
El Toro really seams to be living up to the hype around it. Well there is height deference between El Toro and Rolling thunder El Toro is 181 feet high while rolling thunder is 96 feet high. Actually El Toro’s first drop is steeper then Nitro’s. Nice to here you had a good day. I really want to get to SFGADV badly, looks like a great park and after following the construction of Kingda Ka and El Toro I fell I know way too much abbot a park I have never been to.

Wow, this set looks great. I just started a new 'space' park and now will have to go back and start over once this pack is out but it will be worth it. I'm wondering if some of those angled walls will be 'glass'

JCat
06-15-2006, 01:57 AM
Yes, actually two of the angled walls from that set will be glass. That same set will have a second style as well -- being completely solid, plus there will be decorative thin panels to add on top of your finished structure for an optional final touch. There's also another set which uses different geometry which is what I'm in the middle of right now.

I really like the looks of this site it looks really good I can use it for anything in my parks maybe I will use it for a indoor rollercoaster or a indoor thrill ride. I think that this site will really good to use in rct3 better than the space scenery in the game. I really like your custom scenery that you have made for rct3 explelly the steelworks for the coasters I haven't used it yet but I have coasters with the steelworks on them so I can'nt wait to see this custom scenery to be completed all of your custom scenery makes rct3 alot better than it is already thanks for making custom scenery for rct3 I really like your custom scenery that you have made for rct3 so I am looking forward to the spaceworx form you.

Hey JCat, any updates???

JCat
06-18-2006, 08:44 PM
No updates right now. External Drive went down on Thursday - lost a few objects from the second wall set that were in "mid Milkshape construction". My saved themed file was also on that hard drive, so I have to reconstruct the theme file by taking the finished objects from the theme folder and reintroducing them to the importer. Thank heavens RCT3 itself was on the C drive, as only about 10% was screwed, though all of my ASE files from previous work (screamworx, steelworx, icon templates etc.) are somewhere in 3D model heaven. Western Digital..EAT ME.

Well, I was in the process of building in indoor, space-themed coaster, but I've now put that project on hold until you have this set available. I'm patient. I can wait..... Are we there yet?! ;) lol

Great looking set, JCat. Really, really, REALLY looking forward to this one. I love the other sets and have been making good use of them even though I'm not great at design (Parks or rides) but I love to play the game.

Sorry to hear about your WD meltdown. I've been dealing with those drives for years. I'm an 18 year PC Repair vet and have seen many WD drives go Tango Uniform. I've had better luck with the Seagate and Maxtor drives. The big PC manufacturers tend to go with WD drives because of the cost. I'll be replacing my drives with Maxtors in the near future.

Good luck,
Bel

P.S. I'd stay away from the Quantum drives, too. They made the worst hard drives ever (the Bigfoot) so I don't trust their judgement, either.

JCat
06-19-2006, 04:00 AM
Shyguy - Not sure I get it, but :haha:

Thanks for the tips on the Hard Drives. I'm assuming it's going to cost a sick amount of money to pay some kind of recovery service? In any case, I'll be checking out some externals from newegg.com tomorrow, and I won't go near Western Digital now that the consensus seems to be they suck.

marnetmar
06-19-2006, 04:28 AM
JCat, I can't remember who sent it to me, but when my HD died awhile back someone sent me a link for this file recovery software. I was able to get everything I needed from my drive on my own, but that's not always possible. You might be able to use it, or something similar, probably cheaper than having to pay to have it recovered.

If you wanted to try to pay some one to recover your hard drive you could always go to the big stores like circuit city and see what they say but the cheapest way would probably be to got to your local computer shop epically if it is on the small side they will probably be more willing to work with you.

JCat
06-23-2006, 03:28 PM
Thanks BoRJoYZeE - this one's going to be a while - updates will now be behind curtains. ;)

piotrekc - this is actually a perfect set for the Euro-Mir structure. I wish we had a ride like that in the US, but we're too busy building 450 foot phallic symbols that last for 20 seconds.

jammys
06-23-2006, 04:48 PM
whoa, i just looked at some pics of Euro-Mir, and it would! i never knew how cool that coaster is until i looked it up just now. turns out that nolimits couldn't really capture the reflective beauty of it. thats where i saw it first btw.

piotrekc
06-24-2006, 10:33 AM
Well Euro-Mir is great coaster , one of the best. I live in Poland and we haven't got any big parks here :( but i already have been to Disneyland Paris (my first park - BTM - my first big rollercoaster and indiana jones, heh I was too frightened to ride Space Mountain but i was there when i grow up :D) Heide Park, Europa Park and Thorpe Park. Europa park has got great coasters and they are so diffrent Euro Mir was my favorite and still is. However, all rollercoaster are superb, aren't they Rollercoasters-Fans? :D

But let's back to the topic:
piotrekc - this is actually a perfect set for the Euro-Mir structure. Yes it is so perfect I'm going to recreate EuroMir really soon (I've got Poseidon and Matterhorn done, now Swiss Bob Run, than Euro-Mir) so BTW I have some questions about your set:

Thanks
UFOs/some Aliens already panned out. Right now, I'm in the process of modeling some Planets, and advanced particle effects. Then on to the props, a second set of walls that are generated from the same tiles you see in most of those shots, only they'll be a mixture of solid and glass. And finally, external decor shapes to enhance your space complex, and hi-tech lights.

Man, this is going to be cool. I use your Screamworx pack all the time in making haunted houses, this will be such a great addition to the game. Personally, I think the Sci Fi stuff is very limited, so I never make any space themed rides, but thanks to this I could.

Thanks for all the hard work. I can't imagine how difficult all this modelling must be, I've been trying to figure it out but..well I'm no good. :D

Well, things are back on track since that hard drive disaster. Here's a lil indoor space action shot. Note: Only one star panel is being repeated (rotated, etc..); there are more star panels with different patterns that will brake up any repetitive appearance (you don't want that to happen in space). Saturn's rings are transparent - and really need a light source to show them off. Also, right now I'm using the black floor tiles from the darkride set (as you can see, there's no stars on the lower portion of the screen). There will be floor/roof stars).

Hit me if these seems like a bit much but could you take a object maps from the track segments, enlage them slightly and add a transparent texture so the track is more a less 'un-seeable' in the game. :D

You could just set the draw distance on the track to zero and it wouldn't show up at all.

Exactly.

Only drawback is... it's great if you're knocking out a video of your ride, but if you release it as a seperate coaster/park for download, you'd have to warn people ahead of time to change their options before boarding.

Maybe make a giant billboard with this warning right in front of the ride in your park. :haha:

for the unseeable coaster, I already have a mod that adds a clone of the wooden wild mouse track and one that adds a clone of the haunted mansion track. I am planning to work on one that clones the B&M track (steel twister & friends). All these clones have a totally 100% jet black texture which effectivly makes the track invisible except for the coaster cars and some effects like station parts, brakes etc.

If anyone has any other requests (to do instead of or as well as the B&M track when I get around to it), please do let me know.

Jonwil - I like that idea - that will be easy enough.

Cyberleader - . Not sure how many people will want to use the Tardis in the long run. The Daleks can be used as robots for any space theme is my guess. I'm looking at maybe one to two props from various known space themes as extra addd fluff; Right now I'm working on an object from another popular TV show. :noob:
But, I may be interested in seeing the textures for the updated Dalek?

weasel497 - Not sure, still a ways to go - some more surprises in store. Sometime in mid July as a guesstimate.

Other things mentioned will be considered if do-able.

No, it wasn't just filler. I couldn't tell if the buildings were recolorable or if it was just the border in between that was recolorable. I was also wondering, if both the panels and the border are recolorable, if they had the same corresponding values in the recolorable-ovl table so I could make them the same color... hence the boarder would be invisible if I so chose when I was using the set. I thought they might be recolorable, but It seems like you are doing multiple wall sets so I cannot really tell. (sorry if I seemed like I was being rude or something)

Heh, I have a lot of ideas for what I am going to do next. Space mountain, particle effects, jungle set, cave set, more tubes... it goes on and on and on. Most of my questions are out of interest, but a few are just to make sure that I am not going to be accused of stealing other people's ideas.

So, if you think you know what I am planning next...think again. I am like a box of chocolates. You never know what I will do next... :haha:

JCat
06-30-2006, 11:01 PM
All sets are recolorable. On the border set, the main face and the border are independently colorable, but with any RCT3 multi-colorable objects, even if you say, make the main color brown and the border brown, the border will always be a different shade of the same color. This means, the border will still be visible/defined. For this reason, there is a completely solid set as well (as shown with the most recent group of screens), with the addition of a few glass tiles; Both sets are interchangeable. The third set is also solid, but is different geometry and not as may pieces.

One set, but grouped by wall style so parts are easy to locate. It's not as big as it may appear from the structures (in terms of the amount of pieces per style). A few pieces go a long way with versatility.

iceatcs - yeah, I know exactly what you mean. Particle effects are the only way to spice objects up with the lack of animation.

Vodhin - always cool possiblities from you; I'm going to leave it as is, as the original intension was to have coasters plow through the gate. Though imagine the body count if it were both?

BlackPhoenix3/camandjack - only 60% done, so you'll have to rely on barbeques and fireworks today (if you're in the US that is).

Shyguy - Somebody here is getting just a little too good with this custom scenery making. You need to stop this right now! This coming from the one of the kings of scenery and park creation! Well, after this, it will stop for quite a while.

Startours_3000 - still have 40% more to go. ;)

drsheep - there is no ride actually. I build temporary partial coasters for photo-shoots only.

OMG A decent space pack was my dream and this is better then decent. Do you think you could make one of theese? The star speeder 3000 that'd be my biggest dream on RCT3 is to have that bc its pretty much like the star trek thing but IDK there is a big disneyland resort group project and this would be great to have. Here are images also orange steel doors with the dash's on them would be awesome too.

Maxamillion - that's actually quite a compliment. All of my work is always taken directly in game.

ryguy222 - probably can get the Star Speeder 3000 in there; need to research it a bit more. Can't promise the queue doors, but we'll see! I'm just wondering if it would be kinda weird though to have the SS3000 out on the open, with a set of doors separating it? And if you put it inside of a room, then it' won't be shown.

ryguy222
07-06-2006, 01:37 AM
^^actually the plan is to have one in the queue like the real ride. And put them over the space shuttle sims. Also the queue doors seprate it but we will do a fcr in there so thats what the plan would be.

Looks like the Star Speeder 3000 is making it into the cut. The mesh is practically done, and I was lucky enough to find top/side/back/front texture views. The model won't be a an 'exact replica' because I tend to be considerate of polygon counts - but it will be close enough to know what it is. I'm going to experiment with it, to see how it looks when covering the current space simulator that comes with RCT3. Screen shots will be posted when it's in game and looking presentable.

There are more surprises around the corner..

Yes, thanks - those helped for the basic idea. I can't use those for texturing, as the angles are not suited for modeling. As I said though, I did manage to find nice textures, though it's slightly different.

Right now I'm juggling between the SS 3000 and a colorable "Recognizer" from Tron.
TRON is not exactly a space flick, though it is Sci-Fi - but the Recongizer is one of my favorite characters, and will fit in nicely with this theme. Plus it makes a cool arch! :haha:

Oh, and both StarSpeeder 3000 and the Tron Recognizer models are complete and in game already. I guess I should have worded my last comment better. The StarSpeeder is humongous, that way it fits right over the current motion space simulator. Looks cool, but peeps will magically walk through the object's wall to get on/off it. Now back to the "Tie"...

Simple Solution: Don't download it. Raise my salary, and I'll gladly make a set toally devoted to your personal needs. Oh I forgot, there is no salary to raise.

Well put JCat, well put!! It is nice that you do share your objects with everyone. Maybe one person opinion is not evryone elses opinion and should keep it to himself. You donate your time, effort, and knowledge and what do you get for all this?? Maybe a thank you if you are lucky. People you should just be grateful for what he is doing for everyone. If you want something so bad make it yourself and if you can't make it then keep those kinds of opinions to yourself.

Great work JCat and thank you for everything that you have done for us and what you are doing now. Thank you!!

Hey hey hey! Aren't these called DISCUSSION forums? Where you give your opinions?

I think this set looks awesome and even though I won't really use these TV/Film releated objects, I will certainly use the starry walls and particle effects! Weasel, I understand what you mean, but JCat/Pumper, he still wants the set just not so keen, like I am, in the TV objects. So please, it's just opinion, and other people will want them JCat, but you know that no matter what you make someone won't want it. I still love this set though :D

\/ And I agree, just because I won't use something doesn't mean other people won't. The more objects the better!

This will be delayed a few weeks. I got called for Jury Duty starting Wednesday - and if I get selected to be on a case, I'm doomed between that and my business obligations which have to be shifted to evening hours. At this point, it's about 70% done. When I get around to it, I'll post more screen shots of the latest work.
