So I was thinking . . . Here goes . . . :D

What if once or twice a month a Super Mega Scenery collection was released with all the newest and most upto date custom scenery.

People, not sure who could get together, track down eveything thats updated for Wild, put it all together, add an installer and it only takes one download and one install to have the most update stuff every month.

No more unfinished "Complete Custom Scenery List's" with broken links or anything. Just the sweet ease of five easy clicks and a lots of new scenery! :D

Someone was working on something like that... potter, I think.

Dunno how practical that would be- I've actually removed a whole bunch of scenery pieces, simply because the more scenery there is, the slower RCT3 loads (I moved all of it to a safe folder, including all of RCT3's non-generic stuff). Personally, I think scenery should be simpler, fewer pieces- ShyGuy's sets are so wonderful, but I find I use only a few pieces from them.

The sets I'm developing will try to 'keep it simple' - using the fewest number of pieces, and those divided into removable folders. A lot of folks will want my sting lights, but few will probably want the utility poles....

So one big download may be a good for some, and not for others...

This has been brought up several times before & I for one am against it.

Let's say you have 6 theme packs together & people d/l & install it & suddenly their game starts crashing, how are they supposed to know which pack is causing the problem?

If someone uses one of my packs & has problems with it I can most often help them to get it working, but if I don't know if it's a problem with my pack or someone else's how am I supposed to get their game working properly?

Good point! I Agree fully with Marn... I hate it when the game crashes *shivers*

Yeah, I was worried about that too. I am better working solo as well, because I can work at my own pace (which can change at any moment, sometimes I'll get through like 50 % of a theme in one day and then get nothing done on other days)

As interesting as this sounds, it could be a serious problem...however, a solution is at hand...

1]Why not create a single pack that uses the most useful custom scenery. Since Marnetmar's Leftoverz has phenomenal rock props, the signs however prove to be less useful because you'd have to creating those rides. With shyguy's, the regular walls are very nice, but I never use the inset windows or walls. So maybe we could do a scenery filter and use most sets that the people want and can use the most often...

or

2]How about theme setups. Since Marnetmar's Leftoverz go both in the Adventure Scenery (rocks) and Generic Scenery (tables). JCat's Screamworx goes in both Spooky Scenery (ghouls) and Generic Scenery (carpets) and Particle Scenery (fireplace). We could go through and filter all the scenery a second time.

Remember, these are just suggestions and someone may want to try them. I, for one, am completely against messing with Custom Scenery, but someone else may like these suggestions, I don't...why'd I post them then? So other people could see them.

Why screw around with something, that's already screwing around with the game. I don't like Custom Scenery in General, but what the creators are doing, I love!! It's just like an all new Expansion Pack-Frontier, take notes on what they're doing and make a Community Expansion Pack (all custom scenery) then we wouldn't have to worry about the Importer or 3D Modellers.

Woohie, my fingers are tired...

What might be good for one person, may not be for another- altering each individual scenery set would be daunting, at best, too.

The big problem probably stems from poor schooling - I don't mean to insult, but to point out- that society in generaly has allways wanted to keep the peasants in the dark, and the biggest problem is that RCT3 doesn't follow some simple rules:

Pre thinking how something will be used- eg. Saved coasters. I forget what type of coaster I just downloaded and now I have to dig through all the coaster type saves. A simple file list of saved designs would be sooo much better.

This also comes to the scenery- even frontier's own scenery is arranged haphazard- general objects could have been grouped into sub groups- the provided filters (theme type and size) are OK, but they're not spot on.

Custom scenery makers need to take a moment and look at all the items in their pack and decide: Follow Frontier and place one item in one menu, another in another, etc (which is correct as far as use goes: benches should be with path items -why the path's themselves aren't grouped in the same menu set with path items is a mystery) or put all their items in one menu.

What would really make a lot of folks happy is if RCT3 was altered a little to have a separate main menu button for custom objects (along with a button that opens a browser for all saved items). That would be very useful.

Don't shoot me if this is done already...I see the Guide to All Things Custom thread / etc in the custom scenery section. However, I think a regularly updated, nicely organized one-stop-shop would be nice.

I agree with Vodin's statement that What might be good for one person, may not be for another I use a lot of things in ways very different than their original intention, and I probably use parts that others don't. I really don't want someone else deciding what I can use based on their opinions.

How would you set up filters? How would these downloads be set up to go into your Themed Folder? If the designer first releases the pack as they designed it, and then someone decides to filter it by what they like or what they use, am I going to have duplicate sets of the exact same object but in different folders? What if I download someone's park? What if they use an object from an original set of objects and I have the exact same items but from a filtered set...will they be inter-changable?

Perhap's it would be better (and less work...) if someone not only made sure the list of released scenery is up to date, but if they also recapped at the end of each month all the sets that were released that month?

I don't think they need to be put together in some big download for the same reasons Marnetmar stated, and also because I think that if someone's bothered to put all those hours of work into making some scenery to share with everyone else for free, the least we can do is to say thanks and download it ourselves.

Thanks for bringing that up, wabigbear, as it is something I would like to ask the community myself. I believe some of you have noticed that I update the Complete Scenery thread as often as I can, usually every four to seven days. Whenever there is an update, I never write down which new sets have appeared or which old ones have been changed, because I think my post is already long enough and quite frustrating. Do you think I should start a new thread combining jonwil's post and mine in a much more organised way? I know of other excellent sites which update their list as well, but I think the more places we have where such a list can be found the merrier.

I really appreciate that you've been updating the list all the time apet08...I hope my post didn't sound like I don't think you do!

What I was trying to get across is that sometimes it seems people want all the work done for them and all they want to have to do is to is to click on 'download' somewhere and have everything installed at once. Creating scenery is a long, difficult and most of all time-consuming task. I just can't see where it kills the rest of us to take the few minutes required to download and install each pack.

I like your idea apet08, and I agree that having multiple lists is a good one! Thanks for doing this, it's appreciated by many of us!

I am in complete agreement with Marnetmar on this with the added advise to remember, everyone is not ung the same computer. Differences in systems alone can bring mny people's computers to their knees. Best to download individually and test each one. That way you always know the last thing installed was the cause and can be removed.

What I ment was there was one installer that would install say, 40 or so packs that would come with the monthly release. Everyone's scenery would still be in different folders as it is now. And yes there would have to be some testing done to make sure everything works.

I was not however suggesting putting 40packs worth of custom scenery into one folder, creating the world's longest list. :D And ya, if your pack is not finished in time well then thats fine. It would be added to next months download . . .

But ya, if you guys don't like the idea thats fine. :noob:

IMO, it will be better all the mods on the solo, because we have own life to do. There will be pressure if there will be deadline or other memebers want it to finish by, it will cause many problems. Maybe many months times when we have running out the ideas.

But I think the pack is not good idea because I don't download all of the custom scenerys because some I don't need on my dir. So "Pick 'n' Mix" is better option.
