Original Announcement
It would seem that everyone is doing rocks at the moment, Marnetmars doing some in his Leftoverz2 and DRP is doing a set entitled Cavernz. Therefore I'd better throw my offering into the ring before it's lost in the noise.
The set is entirely based on small triangles. This makes it very flexible allowing the creation of very complex cliff faces, but at the cost of it taking a long time to place each of the individual pieces.
http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/9086/shot01283xz.jpg
From left to right, the piece on it's own is flat, the first line are varying vertical triangles arranged on the diagonal across the square, the next four lines are various sloping triangles and the righthand line shows vertical triangles arranged on the square edge. All of the pieces are based on a 1/4tile and the heights correspond to the standard 1u divisions.
The following two shots are of the set in action. The first is an early version of the set where the triangles are smooth, the latter distorts the triangles to try and create a rougher surface. Which style do peeps prefer?

For more pictures head to post #63 (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7706944&postcount=63) of my park thread, or see post #70 (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7706944&postcount=70) for an explanation of the math behind the set.
I could probably have the set zipped up and uploaded by the end of the month, it depends if I can stomach creating dozens of icons.

Gah I like both versions of the set lol. One is alot simpler but the other more effective and it appears that both can be intermingled anyway.

as Uries said, they are both great!

I would choose the second pic type, I too like them both though, would you release some of saved 'rock' structures you have created with it? - It looks like a little learning curve will go with this set ;)

it appears that both can be intermingled anyway.
I was thinking along the lines of one flavour or the other, mainly because I don't want to have to add another 40 objects to the set, it's fiddly enough as it is.

The structures that I've created so far are a bit too tied in to the ride that I'm currently creating although I could probably put together a couple of sample tunnel sections to give peeps an idea of what can be done.

Cliffs by the cook... Cavernz by DRP... I think a "Goonies" park is gonna come out if this... ;)
Great work so far!

Oh my word! I'll have to practice with these for days before I can understand them, but the reward in the end will be fantastic!
Edit: I like the 2nd set best.

Looks really good. Both sets look nice but if I had to pick one I guess I would have to go with the second one.

one word...brilliant. I love this idea! I'll definitely be using this set a LOT...
I do prefer the 2nd set...it looks most natural.

Hey the-Cook :)
When you released your first custom scenery set, I said you were going to be the best scenery maker of all! If your next sets are things like this, I was right :P
Very nice! Keep up the goodies!

I like the first set the best, it can be used for more tropical, adventure, island, cliff face and sunny side of things. But the second set could be used for a grungy, dark feel. I like the first one the best because it looks more clean.

These are absolutely awesome... I agree, I'm sure a learning curve is going to come with these. A small "Tutorial" of how to put the pieces together would be greatly beneficial. But, for opinions sake, I like the 2nd set better... looks a lot more natural.

I Like the first better. It is a little more clean and good for a beach cliff.

I like the first picture, it looks like a more simple set and wouldn't have as steep of learning curve, but the second picture looks more realistic... I cant decide!!!! This will be used a lot too! Thanks! They would go perfect with DRP's Cavernz set!

Is there anyway that you could release them both? I know you don't want to, but it looks like you've got both of them made, and you could just make a tutorial for the second one or whatever and just let us mess around with the first...please.

i would rather have the latter

I like them both. They would work in different situations, if you know what I mean. For one ride, you might want the first pack, but for another you might want the second.

Wow, these are amazing! Just what we need! However . . .
Just like your other scenery pack, I doubt I'd ever take the time necessary to fully understand how to use these. Perhaps someone will release some custom-made cliff faces when you release these though. . . ?

Downloads
Rapidshare.de (http://rapidshare.de/files/23589280/CliffFace.zip.html)
Sebar.com (http://www.sebar.com/cook/)
As always my thanks to Sebar for hosting the scenery.
Installation
Click on the above links to download the scenery.
Open the zip file and drag the "Rockface" folder into the "Style/Themed" directory within the your Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 installation.
Copy the contents of the "Examples" folder into your "My Documents\RCT3\Structures" folder.
If you're using some fancy unzip program make sure that the option to preserve the directory heirarchy is enabled.
Do not try to rename the directories
Usage
All of the cliff pieces are triangular in shape, 1/4 tile in size.
All of the sloping and overhang rock pieces have one corner anchored at 0 and the other two corners raised by up to 3 units.
Each piece has an opposite piece that can be used to fill the 1/4 tile, eg. the Slope Lower 3,3's opposite is Slope Upper 3,0 which create a huge parallelogram sloping diagonally across the 1/4 tile.
The overhang pieces can be used to create inclines that are aligned to the grid.
The slope pieces can be used to create inclines that are aligned to the diagonal.
The example files contain some simple structures to create cliff faces, and tunnels.

I downloaded it this set is very versatile. Looks like it will take some time to figure out though but after the learn curve will make some nice looking structures.

Looks like it will take some time to figure out though but after the learn curve will make some nice looking structures.
There are two aspects to the learning curve, one is working out what each piece generally looks like and the other is working out what piece you need to fill a hole.
Some notes from my experience of using the set:
If you're using shift to raise a piece into position, you can change pieces whilst still holding shift down and although you'll porbably have to pick the height again you won't loose you starting position on the ground. This means you can choose different pieces to see which will fit against whatever you've already built.
Overhang Lower X,0 pieces are all of a similar design but increasing slope as X gets larger. All of the pieces follow a consistent pattern, eg. all of the Overhang Lower X,1 pieces are of a similar design with one corner consistently on the ground, one corner consistently at 1u height and the final corner rising to the value of X.
Overhang Lower X,0 matches Overhang, Upper X,X to form a sloping section across a 1/4 tile. Similarly Overhang, Lower X,X matches Overhang, Upper X,0. Where X is a height between 1 and 3.
Slope Lower, X,X is a large triangle with a point down in the corner, it is the opposite of Slope Upper, X,X.
Slope Upper, X,0 is a large triangle with a point up in the corner, it is the opposite of Slope Lower, X,X.

They download from Sebar.com correctly for me, and the zip opens fine just by double clicking on it in Windows XP. If you're having problems with downloading from Sebar.com try Vodhin's site since he mirrors all of my stuff. If you're having problems with the zip, what zip client are you using? Is your zip client capable of handling directories within a zip?
Once you have opened the zip file the the Rockfaces directory needs to be copied into the Style\Themed directory of your RCT3 installation, the contents of the Examples directory should be copied to your custom structures folder.

click download on the picture of rockfaces on sebar.com
click open it will open and copy the inside into style theamed folder
(it doesn't work when i click open
copy something into structures foler
is that what you do
p.s its not the unzipping program that not working because when i click on it normmally it wont work whats wrong

I thought Vodhin had mirrored it, but it appears not to be the case. The main download option is to get it from the sebar.com link. Just click on the picture.
I've tested this numerous times over the past 24hrs and it works just fine.
Check that you've downloaded the full file, the byte count is given on the page use right click and then properties to determine how big the file on your harddrive is.
If you have downloaded the full file and it's still not working then I'm afraid to say that it's something peculiar to your computer. Either the download client or the zip client that you have installed could be causing the problem, or it could be something else on your system. It's not something that I can fix, you need to work out what it is on your machine that is causing the problem and fix it yourself.

You want to shout a little more about the 'DAMN LINKS'? :weird:
You're acting really, really rude. Instead of asking nicely if anyone knows of working links you post like a spoiled six year old demanding a new toy. Grow up.
These are available, if you'd put forth an ounce of effort into looking for them you'd find them.
