Hooorah!! I just spent 4 hours with Anim8or and UV Mapper and Jonwils Importer and photoshop and a gazillion tutorials and finally got my first object into RCT3! I have wanted to do this ever since i d/led any custom scenery and came to this community-and this is my thank you to the community (I should make a pack soonish!) Here is a pic: It was supposed to be a pencil-the texture is crap and needs work, and its a bit big!!!

So, I need some help:
Anyone who uses Anim8or could you please tell me the scale between anim8or square and rct3 square please?
Check post #4 for texture problem!
Many Thanks

hey, not bad for a first go! As for the scale, I can't tell you what it is, but I can tell you how to figure it out :D

Make another object- you know how big this one came out, this time make a smaller box, lined up with the animator grid. (you can just addit to the existing model, then delete the pencil and save as a new name). Import the model and turn on the RCT3 grid (in the menu with the glasses at the top).

Now see how many RCT3 grid squares the object is and then divide that number by the anim8tor grid size- that's your multiplier: Say the object in animator = 2 and RCt3 =10, then the object will be 5 times the size. Take your object scale it to 20% and you'll have it.

I found it really easy to just make a model that is one RCT3 square, and all my objects start by adding to that model, then removing it when I'm ready to save.

Now for orientation: which way is up! that you'll have to figure out on your own, or wait for some help from someone who uses anim8tor...

Goodluck!

I use Anim8or! Each square in RCT3 is about 8 squares in anim8or. I export the objects useing a double sided .obj file so up in RCT is up in anim8or. Also make you all your faces are seperate meshes or the lighting will not work. I'll send you a wall to get you started.

^^Thanks for the replys.
@Vodhin: I cant believe I didnt think of that!! LOL. I will do that again and post the pic
@Aceana: So you say 1 rct3 square=8 anim8or squares? Gonna have to experiment. As for the wall, I think I PMed you my email address a while back-looking forward to that wall-speaking of which, which way is the easiest to create a wall in anim8or?

Ok, so this time I am having a go at a pentagon come football kind of thing.
After making a UV map, and doing this in photoshop:

(Over the top of a Cylindrical Cap map in UV Mapper)
In anim8or i loaded the JPG of this image anim8or shows my pentagon kind of shape with some yellow and some blue pentagons, which is fine, I'm not bothered about the fine details yet.
Then, I load it in RCT3 and it decides to be very annoying and do this:

Any ideas?
Thanks for your help

I fount that the with and length of a RCT3 grid space id 4 in anim8or. As for height 1 high in RCT3 (same as a 1 high wall) is 1 in anim8or.

CoasterSim.Fan: Well, it depends on how much you zoom in. Zoomed out, your scale would work.

rctmaniac: Didn't you get the wall? I sent it to you yesterday... As for the texture problem: Did you re-load the model after sending it through UV mapper? That could be your problem. The easiest way to make a wall is dividing the faces into two triangles each and putting them together to make a wall. I think I'll make you a tutorial on how do do this, because it took me forever to figure out.

So confusing... I suggest using milkshape. It has a built in texture mapper that allows you to select what part of the texture you want on a face of the scenery object... It's only $25 too.

@CoasterSim.Fan: hmmm, I think my football kinda shape was about 4 squares wide in anim8or, needs some figuring out!
@Aceana: I will check my email again, that tutorial would be could!
As for the texture, I think i did reload it after saving the object in UV Mapper, I will do it again and experiment
@Weasel497: I may just do that!

edit: not sure if this will help-when I convert the .obj to .ase in biturn it says:
Source model directions not entering, leaving as is
...3ds Max ASE saved

does it do that with everyone or is that a genuine error?

It does that with me too. I think it's supposed to.

It doesn't do that when I use it.

You can’t measure off the grid on anim8or the grid changes with your zoom level. When I say four I mean when you manually put in the dimensions of your object. To make this easier to understand put down a primitive cube. The select it and double click it. You should see a box that allows you to put in values for X, Y, and Z. The numbers are told you about before are what you use in the X, Y, and Z Values. Remember that in anim8or your bottom = the front of the object in RCT3.
